Two highly sensitive methods for the determination of genotoxic alkyl methane sulfonates (AMss) and alkyl paratoluene sulfonates (APTss) in lamivudine using hyphenated techniques have been presented. AMss were determined by GC-Ms method using GsBPINOWAX (30 m 0.25 mm 0.25 mm) column. Temperature program was set by maintaining at 100 1C initially for 3 min, then rised to 220 1C at the rate of 15 1C/min and maintained at 220 1C for 16 min. N,N-dimethyl formamide was used as diluent. APTss were determined by LC-Ms using Zorbax, Rx C8, 250 mm 4.6 mm, 5 mm column as stationary phase. 0.01 M ammonium acetate is used as buffer. The mixture of buffer and methanol in 75:25 (v/v) ratio was used as mobile phase A and mixture of buffer and methanol in 5:95 (v/v) ratio was used as mobile phase B. The gradient program (T/%B) was set as 0/28, 16/50, 17/100, 23/100, 27/28 and 40/28. Both the methods were validated as per International Conference on Harmonization guidelines. Limit of quantitation was found 1.5 mg/mL for AMss and was in the range of 1.0-1.5 mg/mL for APTss.

Laparoscopic vs open partial colectomy in elderly patients:Insights from the American College of surgeons- National surgical Quality Improvement Program database

AIM: To compare the outcomes between the laparoscopic and open approaches for partial colectomy in elderly patients aged 65 years and over using the American College of surgeons- National surgical Quality Improvement Program(ACs NsQIP) database. METHODs: The ACs NsQIP database for the years 2005-2011 was queried for all patients 65 years and above who underwent partial colectomy. 1:1 propensity score matching using the nearest- neighbor method was performed to ensure both groups had similar preoperative comorbidities. Outcomes including postoperative complications, length of stay and mortality were compared between the laparoscopic and open groups. χ2 and Fisher's exact test were used for discrete variables and student's t-test for continuous variables. P s considered significant and odds ratios with 95%CI were reported when applicable. REsULTs: The total number of patients in the ACs NsQIP database of the years 2005-2011 was 1777035. We identified 27604 elderly patients who underwent partial colectomy with complete data sets. 12009(43%) of the cases were done laparoscopically and15595(57%) were done with open. After propensity score matching, there were 11008 patients each in the laparoscopic(LC) and open colectomy(OC) cohorts. The laparoscopic approach had lower post-operative complications(LC 15.2%, OC 23.8%, P shorter length of stay(LC 6.61 d, OC 9.62 d, P sION: Even after propensity score matching, elderly patients in the ACs NsQIP database having a laparoscopic partial colectomy had better outcomes than those having open colectomies. In the absence of specific contraindications, elderly patients requiring a partial colectomy should be offered the laparoscopic approach.

Due to the characteristic emission of phosphors,phosphor-converted LEDs have been employed to provide the requisite light sources for indoor plant growth in the optical agricultural ***,we prepared a series of Mn^(2+)co-doped NasrB5 O9:Dy^(3+)phosphors via a solid-state reaction *** phosphors have significant three-band emissions at 467 nm(blue region),606 nm(orange region),and765 nm(far-red region),ascribed to the^(4)F_(9/2)-^(6)H_(15/2)and 4 F9/2-6 H13/2 transitions of the Dy^(3+)ions and the^(4)T_(1g)(G)-^(6)A_(1g)(s)spin-forbidden transition of the Mn^(2+)ions,respectively,when excited by light of 376 nm(near-UV region).The co-dopant in the host material facilitates tunable photoluminescence(PL)due to energy transfer from the Dy^(3+)ions to the Mn^(2+)*** three emission peaks from the prepared phosphors well match with the absorption spectra of the photosynthesis pigments of plants,chlorophyll and phytochrome,which can absorb blue(400-500 nm),orange-red(550-700 nm),and infrared(IR)radiation,indicating that these phosphors have potential applications in the fabrication of plant-growth *** to the PL studies,the structure of the phosphors was determined by X-ray diffraction,refined by Rietveld method and chemically quantified by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.

The transcription start site （Tss） region shows greater variability compared with other promoter elements. We are interested to search for its variability by using information content as a measure. We note in this study that the variability is significant in the block of 5 nucleotides （nt） surrounding the Tss region compared with the block of 15 nt. This suggests that the actual region that may be involved is in the range of 5-10 nt in size. For Escherichia coli, we note that the information content from dinucleotide substitution matrices clearly shows a better discrimination, suggesting the presence of some correlations. However, for human this effect is much less, and for mouse it is practically absent. We can conclude that the presence of short-range correlations within the Tss region is species-dependent and is not universal. We further observe that there are other variable regions in the mitochondrial control element apart from Tss. It is also noted that effective comparisons can only be made on blocks, while single nucleotide comparisons do not give us any detectable signals.

A series of camphor-derived thiourea organocatalysts 3a–f were designed and synthesized from（1R,3s）-camphoric acid 1 and applied to the one-pot three-component kabachnik–Fields reaction. Catalyst 3c was found to be an efficient organocatalyst for the reaction of 2-cyclopropylpyrimidin-4-carbaldehyde 4,various amines 5, and diphenylphosphite 6 to yield the corresponding enantioselective a-aminophosphonates 7a–e in 74%–82% yields and 14%–35% ee.

Friction stir welding(FsW) is a promising welding process that can join age hardenable aluminium alloys with high joint efficiency. However,the thermal cycles experienced by the material to be joined during FsW resulted in the deterioration of mechanical properties due to the coarsening and dissolution of strengthening precipitates in the thermo-mechanical affected zone(TMAZ) and heat affected zone(HAZ). Under water friction stir welding(UWFsW) is a variant of FsW process which can maintain low heat input as well as constant heat input along the weld line. The heat conduction and dissipation during UWFsW controls the width of TMAZ and HAZ and also improves the joint properties. In this investigation, an attempt has been made to evaluate the mechanical properties and microstructural characteristics of AA2519-T87 aluminium alloy joints made by FsW and UWFsW processes. Finite element analysis has been used to estimate the temperature distribution and width of TMAZ region in both the joints and the results have been compared with experimental results and subsequently correlated with mechanical properties.? 2016 China Ordnance society. This paper proposes an optimal dynamic reserve activation plan after the occurrence of an emergency situation （generator/transmission line outage, load increase or both）. An optimal plan is developed to handle the emergency, using the coordinated action of fast and slow reserves, for secure operation with minimum overall cost. It considers the reserves supplied by the conventional thermal generators （spinning reserves）, hydro power units and load demands （demand-side reserves）. The optimal backing down of costly/fast reserves and bringing up of slow reserves in each sub-interval in an integrated manner is proposed. The proposed reserve activation approaches are solved using the genetic algorithm, and some of the simulation results are also compared using the Matlab optimization toolbox and the general algebraic modeling system （GAMs） software. The simulation studies are performed on the IEEE 30, 57 and 300 bus test systems. These results demonstrate the advantage of the proposed integrated/dynamic reserve activation plan over the conventional/sequential approach.

The prodigious advancements in contemporary technologies have also brought in the situation of unprecedented ***,the pin-based security system is an inadequate mechanism for handling such a *** reason is that hackers use multiple strategies for evading security systems and thereby gaining access to private *** research proposes to deploy diverse approaches for authenticating and securing a connection amongst two devices/gadgets via sound,thereby disregarding the pins’manual ***,the results demonstrate that the proposed approaches outperform conventional pin-based authentication or QR authentication ***,a random signal is encrypted,and then it is transformed into a wave file,after which it gets transmitted in a short burst via the device’s ***,the other device/gadget captures these audio bursts through its microphone and decrypts the audio signal for getting the essential data for ***,this model requires two devices/gadgets with speakers and a microphone,and no extra hardware such as a camera,for reading the QR code is *** first module is tested with realtime data and generates high scores for the widely accepted accuracy metrics,including precision,Recall,F1 score,entropy,and mutual information(MI).Additionally,this work also proposes a module helps in a secured transmission of sensitive data by encrypting it over images and other *** steganographic module includes two-stage encryption with two different encryption algorithms to transmit data by embedding inside a *** encryption algorithms and their combinations are taken for this system to compare the resultant file *** these systems engender high accuracies and provide secure connectivity,leading to a sustainable communication ecosystem.
