Effect of Friedel's salt on strength enhancement of stabilized chloride saline soil

In the field of soil stabilization, only calcium silicate hydrate(CsH) and ettringite(AFt) as hydration products have been reported to directly contribute to the strength enhancement of the soil. A chloride dredger fill, an artificial chloride saline soil, and a non-saline soil were stabilized by Portland cement(PC) and PC with Ca(OH)_2(CH) with different contents. A series of unconfined compressive strength(UCs) tests of stabilized soil specimen after curing for 7 d and 28 d were carried out, and the hydration products and microstructure of the specimens were observed by X-ray diffractometry(XRD), scanning electronic microscopy(sEM), and energy-dispersive X-ray analysis(EDXA). The results showed that the strengths of PC+CH-stabilized chloride saline soils were much higher than those of PC-stabilized soils. A new hydration product of calcium aluminate chloride hydrate, also known as Friedel's salt, appeared in the PC+CH-stabilized chloride saline soils. The solid-phase volume of Friedel's salt expanded during the formation of the hydrate; this volume filled the pores in the stabilized soil. This pore-filling effect was the most important contribution to the significantly enhanced strength of the PC+CH-stabilized chloride saline soils. On the basis of this understanding, a new optimized stabilizer was designed according to the concept that the chloride in saline soil could be utilized as a component of the stabilizer. The strength of the chloride saline soils stabilized by the optimized stabilizer was even further increased compared with that of the PC+CH-stabilized soils.

Numerical study of self-heating effects of small-size MOsFETs fabricated on silicon-on-aluminum nitride substrate

Compared with bulk.s.licon technology, silicon-on-insulator (sOI) technology possesses many advan-tages but it is inevitable that the buried silicon dioxide layer also thermally insulates the metal – oxide – silicon field-effect transistors (MOsFETs) from the bulk due to the low thermal conductivity. One of the alternative insulator to replace the buried oxide layer is aluminum nitride (AlN), which has a thermal conductivity that is about 200 times higher than that of siO2 (320 W·m ? 1·k? 1 versus 1.4 W·m? 1·k? 1). To investigate the self-heating effects of small-size MOsFETs fabricated on silicon-on-aluminum nitride (sOAN) substrate, a two-dimensional numerical analysis is performed by using a device simulator called MEDICI run on a solaris workstation to simulate the electri-cal characteristics and temperature distribution by comparing with those of bulk and standard sOI MOsFETs. Our study suggests that AlN is a suitable alternative to silicon dioxide as a buried dielectric in sOI and expands the appli-cations of sOI to high temperature conditions.

Pd nanoparticles immobilized on MIL-53(Al)as highly e ective bifunctional catalysts for oxidation of liquid methanol to methyl formate

A series of Pd/MIL-53(Al) heterogeneous bifunctional catalysts with di erent Pd contents were prepared by an impregnation method. The prepared metal–organic frameworks MIL-53(Al) and catalysts were characterized by XRD, sEM, HRTEM,FT-IR and N2 adsorption/desorption techniques. The results showed that MIL-53(Al) was synthesized successfully, and the structure was unchanged during and after the preparation of the catalysts. The Pd nanoparticles(NPs) with an average particle size of 4.6 nm were uniformly dispersed on the MIL-53(Al). The catalyst exhibited good catalytic activity in the selective oxidation of liquid methanol to methyl formate. Under the conditions of 150 °C, 2 MPa O2 and solvent-free for5 h, the conversion of methanol could reach 60.3%, and the selectivity of methyl formate was up to 62.2%. In addition, the Pd/MIL-53(Al) bifunctional catalyst exhibited excellent stability and maintained high catalytic activity after five cycles.

Collective flow and nuclear stopping in heavy ion collisions in Fermi energy domain

The effects of the in-medium nucleon-nucleon(NN) elastic cross section on the observables in heavy ion collisions in the Fermi energy domain are investigated within the framework of the ultrarelativistic quantum molecular dynamics model. The results simulated using medium correction factors of F=σ_(NN)^(in-medium)/σ_(NN)^(free)=0.2,0.3,0.5,and the density-and momentum-dependent factor obtained from the FU3 FP1 parametrization are compared with the FOPI and INDRA experimental data. It is found that the calculations using the correction factors F=0.2 and 0.5 reproduce the experimental data(i.e.,collective flow and nuclear stopping) at 40 and 150 MeV/nucleon, respectively. Calculations with the FU3 FP1 parametrization can best fit these experimental data. These conclusions can be confirmed in both^(197)Au+^(197)Au and^(129)Xe+^(120)sn.

Behavior of Meiotic Chromosomes in Pinus wallichiana,*** and Their Hybrid and nrDNA Localization in Pollen Mother Cells of the Hybrid by Using FIsH

The complete process of meiosis was investigated in Pinus wallichiana, P. strobus and their artificial hybrid （F1） using microsporocytes. It is revealed that there were slightly lower chiasma frequency, lower ring bivalent frequency, lower meiotic index and distinctly higher frequency of aberrance （chromosomal bridges, fragments or micronuclei） in pollen mother cells （PMCs） of the hybrid （F1） than those of the parental species, which showed a certain degree of differentiation between homologous chromosomes of the two parents. However, relatively higher frequency of ring bivalents and higher meiotic index in all the three entities indicate the great stability of genomes of parental species, and the differentiation of genomes between the two parents must have been slight. Total nineteen signal loci of 18s rDNA were observed in nine bivalents of the hybrid （F1）, among which one bivalent bears two loci, while the others have only one. It is suggested that distinct differentiation at genetic level existed in homologous chromosomes of the two parental species, whereas only slight differentiation at karyotypic and genomic levels take place between the parent species.

Calculating single layer production contribution of heavy oil commingled wells by analysis of aromatic parameters in whole-oil GC-Ms

subsurface flow is a prominent runoff process in sloping lands of purple soil in the upper Yangtze River ***,it remains difficult to identify and *** this study,in situ runoff experimental plots were used to measure soil moisture dynamics using an array of time domain reflectometry(TDR) together with overland flow and subsurface flow using isolated collecting *** of preferential flow during rainfall events and the controls of subsurface flow processes were investigated through combined analysis of soil properties,topography,rainfall intensity,initial wetness,and *** showed that subsurface flow was ubiquitous in purple soil profiles due to welldeveloped macropores,especially in surface soils while frequency of preferential flow occurrence was very low(only 2 cases in plot C) during all 22 rainfall *** antecedent moisture conditions promoted the occurrence of preferential ***,consecutive real-time monitoring of soil moisture at different depths and various slope positions implied the possible occurrence of multiple subsurface lateral flows during intensive *** intensity,tillage operation,and soil properties were recognized as main controls of subsurface flow in the study area,which allows the optimization of management practices for alleviating adverse environmental effects of subsurface flow in the region.
