Analysis of genetic relationship in mutant silkworm strains of Bom-byx mori using inter simple sequence repeat (ISSR) markers

Amplified inter simple sequence repeats （ISSR） markers were used to determine genetic relationships among mutant silkworm strains of Bombyx mori. Fifteen ISSR primers containing simple sequence repeat （SSR） motifs were used in this study. A total of 113 markers were produced among 20 mutant strains, of which 73.45% were found to be polymorphic. In selected mutant genetic stocks, the average number of observed allele was （1.7080 ± 0.4567）, effective alleles （1.5194 ± 0.3950） and genetic diversity （Ht）（0.2901 ± 0.0415）. The dendrogram produced using the unweighted pair group method with arithmetic means （UPGMA） and cluster analysis made using Nei＇s genetic distance resulted in the formation of one major group containing 6 groups separated 20 mutant silkworm strains. Therefore, ISSR amplification is a valuable method for determining the genetic variability among mutant silkworm strains. This efficient molecular marker would be useful for characterizing a considerable number of silkworm strains maintained at the germplasm center.

Impact assessment of nuclear power plant discharge on zooplankton abundance and distribution in coastal waters of kalpakkam, India

Background:kalpakkam coastal area serves as fishing ground,influenced by anthropogenic effluents from its surrounding populations and ***:The monthly abundance and distribution of zooplankton and some physico-chemical parameters were investigated in coastal waters near a nuclear power plant,kalpakkam *** and surface water samples collected from three different locations(stations P1,P2 and P3)in the heated and non-heated parts of the coastal waters were analyzed using standard ***:Among all plankton genera in the cooling water,zooplankton was observed most sensitive group to entrainment-induced *** genera were identified over the period of the *** population followed a trend as P1>P3>P2.A clear monthly variation and slight differences among stations were observed in terms of the zooplankton *** investigations revealed that changes in zooplankton genera across water bodies could be associated with differing ***:Our results clearly demonstrate that heated water discharge from the Madras Atomic Power Station has a negligible effect on zooplankton population at engineered canal near Plutonium Recycle Project(station P2).There is no impact on zooplankton population due to thermal effluent discharge into the coastal area(stations P1 and P3).Hence,further investigation is required to estimate the impact zone at either side during different seasons.

Regression analysis of squeezing-induced hybrid nanofluid flow in Darcy-Forchheimer porous medium

This article presents a mathematical model addressing a scenario involving a hybrid nanofluid flow between two infinite parallel plates. One plate remains stationary, while the other moves downward at a squeezing velocity. The space between these plates contains a Darcy-Forchheimer porous medium. A mixture of water-based fluid with gold(Au) and silicon dioxide(Si O2) nanoparticles is formulated. In contrast to the conventional Fourier's heat flux equation, this study employs the Cattaneo-Christov heat flux equation. A uniform magnetic field is applied perpendicular to the flow direction, invoking magnetohydrodynamic(MHD) effects. Further, the model accounts for Joule heating, which is the heat generated when an electric current passes through the fluid. The problem is solved via NDSolve in MATHEMATICA. Numerical and statistical analyses are conducted to provide insights into the behavior of the nanomaterials between the parallel plates with respect to the flow, energy transport, and skin *** findings of this study have potential applications in enhancing cooling systems and optimizing thermal management strategies. It is observed that the squeezing motion generates additional pressure gradients within the fluid, which enhances the flow rate but reduces the frictional drag. Consequently, the fluid is pushed more vigorously between the plates, increasing the flow velocity. As the fluid experiences higher flow rates due to the increased squeezing effect, it spends less time in the region between the plates. The thermal relaxation, however, abruptly changes the temperature, leading to a decrease in the temperature fluctuations.

Textural and depositional processes of surface sediments of kalpakkam, Southeast Coast of India

To understand the influence of human dis- turbance on the sediment processes along kalpakkam coast, India, beach and seabed sediments at 200 m, 500 m, and 1 km into the sea were collected monthly for one year and analyzed. Coarser material close to the tidal inlets （river） and manmade structures （sea wall） indicate the effect of these features in altering the grain size distribution from the general trend. The bivariant plots confirm the dominance of deposition under beach environment. The CM diagram （C-one percentile grain diameter, M - median） divulges that the deposition takes place by suspension and rolling of sediments with C 〈 1 mm. Linear discriminate function analysis for sediments at kalpakkam indicates a shallow marine environment for all the samples collected. On the multigroup multivariant discriminant functions V1 -V2 diagram, the bulk of the samples from kalpakkam to Mahabalipuram fall in the field of beach deposition. These results show that reworked sediments, submerged during the Holocene marine transgression are being deposited on present-day beaches by waves, currents and rivers in the study area. Though a high wave energy environment is prevailing in the study area, dominant northward sediment transport along the kalpakkam-Mahabalipuram human interventions. Beach coast is not altered due to building activity in front of the sea wall ensures the safety of Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research （IGCAR） from wave actions without causing any significant changes to the coastal environment.
