This study explores the mechanical properties of a novel composite material,blending polylactic acid(PLA)with sea shells,through a comprehensive tensile test *** tensile test results offer valuable insights into the material’s behavior under axial loading,shedding light on its strength,stiffness,and deformation *** results suggest that the incorporation of sea shells decrease the tensile strength of 14.55%and increase the modulus of 27.44%for 15 wt%SSP(sea shell powder)into PLA,emphasizing the reinforcing potential of the mineral-rich sea shell ***,a potential trade-off between decreased strength and reduced ductility is noted,highlighting the need for a delicate balance in material *** study underscores the importance of uniform sea shell particle distribution within the PLA matrix for consistent mechanical *** results offer a basis for additional PLA-sea shell blend optimization,directing future efforts to balance strength,flexibility,and other critical attributes for a range of applications,including biomedical devices and sustainable *** investigation opens the door to more sustainable and mechanically strong materials in the field of additive manufacturing by demonstrating the positive synergy between nature-inspired materials and cutting-edge testing techniques.

Performance and variability patterns in wood properties and growth traits in the parents, F1 and F2 generation hybrid clones of Populus deltoides

The performance and variability patterns in the wood element’s dimensions, specific gravity and growth parameters namely ramet height and GBH were evaluated in 16 clones of parents, F1 and F2 hybrids of Populus deltoides Bartr. ex Marsh. Ramet radial variations were nonsignificant, while inter-clonal variations due to interaction of clone/replication were significant for all the wood traits except vessel element length. Inter-clonal variations were significant only for fiber length and fiber wall thickness. Fiber length and specific gravity were significantly higher in female, while wall thickness and vessel element length were higher in male clones. Female parents （G48 and S7C8） showed higher fiber length and specific gravity than of the male parent （G3）, while vessel diameter and wall thickness were higher in male par- ent （G3）. There is not much difference in fiber length and vessel element’s dimensions among the parents, F1 and F2 generation hybrid clones. Specific gravity did not showed any trend for parents, F1 and F2 generations. Generally female clones showed higher growth rate. Broad sense heritability for wood traits ranged from 0.143 （fiber length） to 0.505 （fiber wall thickness）, while for growth traits it was 0.374 （GBH） and 0.418 （height）. Genetic gain for all the wood and growth traits was positive for most of the wood traits. The highly divergent male clone （78） and female clones （S7C8, G48, W/A 49） in number of combinations could be used for developing new hybrids of desired wood traits to develop new clones.

In this paper, a novel adaptive fuzzy control scheme is presented . The controller is constructed by using a table lookup scheme and self tuning techniques, which includes the identification block, the fuzzification, the updating rule base, the defuzzification, and the crisp controller (sub controller), etc. The adaptive fuzzy controller is designed in detail by means of triangular membership function and the center of gravity method. The control scheme addressed here is implemented to control the motion of the end effector of a two link constrained flexible manipulator. Computer simulation results show that the novel adaptive fuzzy control scheme works quite well.

Physico-chemical and elemental investigation of aqueous leaching of high sulfur coal and mine overburden from Ledo coalfield of Northeast India

Acid mine drainage （AMD） is one of the major problems in high sulfur coal mining areas generating acidic water. The acidic mine water generated contain hazardous elements in varying concentrations. The Northeastern Indian coalfield produces considerable amounts of AMD. The AMD and metal leaching from coal and mine over burden （OB） are the two important naturally occurring processes. In order to know the AMD potential, the aqueous leaching experiment of a few coal and OB samples from the Ledo colliery of the Northeastern coalfield, Mergherita （India）, at different time periods （1, 3, 5, and 8 h） and at different temperatures （25, 45, 65, and 90℃） were performed in the laboratory. The physico- chemical analysis of the aqueous leachates shows the pH, electrical conductivity （EC）, and total dissolved solid （TDS） in the range of 1.62-3.52, 106-2006 μs/cm, and 106-1003 ppm for the raw coal samples respectively. The OB samples produced pH, EC, and TDS in the range of 3.68-6.92, 48.6-480 μs/cm, and 69.5-240 ppm respectively. From the study, it was revealed that the concentrations of major （Si, A1, k, Na, Fe, Ca, Mg）, minor （Mn） and trace/hazardous elements （As, Ba, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Hg, Ni, Pb, Se, Zn） considerably change with leaching time as well as with leaching temperature. Out of these elements As, Cd, Hg, Pb, Cr, and Se are of greater environmental importance. Alteration of the physico-chemical structure of the coal and OB samples resulting from leaching was also studied by field emission scanning electron microscope- energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy method. The release of the potentially hazardous elements from the raw coal and OB during leaching time periods to the leachates was detected by inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectroscopy and ion-chromatographic analyses. The Impact of a Prior Norwood Procedure on Cardiac Transplantation in Failed Fontan Physiology

Objective:The objective of this study was to compare cardiac transplant operative and postoperative courses of patients with failed Fontan physiology who were initially palliated with a Norwood(FFN)to those without a prior Norwood(FF).Methods:A single-institution retrospective review of all patients with Fontan failure who under-went cardiac transplantation from 2003–2021 was completed-22 underwent prior Norwood(FFN)and 11 did not(FF).Descriptive and inferential statistics were calculated for operative course and patient ***:The operative course of the FFN cohort appeared to be more complex(not statistically significant,but clinically relevant)-this group exclusively experienced sternal re-entry events(3 of 22 patients)and concomitant neo-aor-tic reconstruction(6 patients),had a longer duration of surgery(median of 682 min vs.575.5 min),more time on circulatory arrest(median of 25.5 min vs.12.5 min),and more frequent use of open sternal management[50%of patients(11/22)vs.27.3%of patients(3/11)].Postoperatively,these patients underwent more mediastinal explora-tions[other than sternal closure;40.9%of patients(9/22)vs.18.2%of patients(2/11)],spent more time on mechanical ventilation(median of 5 days vs.2 days),had a longer length of stay(median of 30 days vs.19 days),and required more catheter-based re-interventions[22.7%of patients(5/22)vs.9.1%of patients(1/11)].Conclu-sion:Although underpowered,our results suggest that the operative course of FFN patients is more challenging,based mostly on neo-aortic arch *** turn,this likely leads to a more complex postoperative *** are currently collaborating with other institutions to increase the cohort size and power of the study.

Stochastic modelling of infectious diseases for heterogeneous populations

Background:Infectious diseases such as SARS and H1N1 can significantly impact people’s lives and cause severe social and economic *** outbreaks have stressed the urgency of effective research on the dynamics of infectious disease ***,it is difficult to predict when and where outbreaks may emerge and how infectious diseases spread because many factors affect their transmission,and some of them may be ***:One feasible means to promptly detect an outbreak and track the progress of disease spread is to implement surveillance systems in regional or national health and medical *** accumulated surveillance data,including temporal,spatial,clinical,and demographic information can provide valuable information that can be exploited to better understand and model the dynamics of infectious disease *** aim of this work is to develop and empirically evaluate a stochastic model that allows the investigation of transmission patterns of infectious diseases in heterogeneous ***:We test the proposed model on simulation data and apply it to the surveillance data from the 2009 H1N1 pandemic in Hong *** the simulation experiment,our model achieves high accuracy in parameter estimation(less than 10.0%mean absolute percentage error).In terms of the forward prediction of case incidence,the mean absolute percentage errors are 17.3%for the simulation experiment and 20.0%for the experiment on the real surveillance ***:We propose a stochastic model to study the dynamics of infectious disease spread in heterogeneous populations from temporal-spatial surveillance *** proposed model is evaluated using both simulated data and the real data from the 2009 H1N1 epidemic in Hong kong and achieves acceptable prediction *** believe that our model can provide valuable insights for public health authorities to predict the effect of disease spread and analyse its underlying factors and to guide new control efforts.

Grey box modeling of supermarket refrigeration cabinets

Aiming to enable robust large-scale fault diagnostics and optimized control for supermarket refrigerationsystems, a data-driven grey box model for an evaporator and its surrounding cooling cabinet (or room) ispresented. It is a non-linear model with two states: the cabinet temperature and the refrigerant mass in theevaporator. To demonstrate its applicability, data with one-minute sampling resolution from ten evaporators ina supermarket in Otterup (Denmark) was used. The model parameters were estimated using a kalman filter andthe maximum likelihood method. Since the dynamical properties of the cabinets constantly change as goodsare added and removed, the parameters were re-estimated for each night, over a period of approximately 2.5years. The model is validated through a statistical analysis of the residuals and the importance of the ongoingre-estimation of parameters is highlighted. Furthermore, the physical meaning of the estimated parameters isdiscussed and potential applications for characterization and classification of cabinets are demonstrated, byshowing how they can be differentiated as either open- or closed cabinets or rooms, using only the estimatedheat transfer coefficients and heat capacities. For a selected case it is shown that the estimated parametervalues are close to physics derived values, and that the accuracy measured by the standard errors of theestimates is approximately ±10% relative to the estimated values. The analysis demonstrates that the modelis robust, accurate and reliable in terms of estimating physically meaningful parameters and it is thereforeappropriate for large-scale implementation.

Infectious diseases of poverty(IDoP)disproportionately affect the poorest population in the world and contribute to a cycle of poverty as a result of decreased productivity ensuing from long-term illness,disability,and social *** 2010,the global deaths from HIV/AIDS have increased to 1.5 million and malaria mortality rose to 1.17 *** from neglected tropical diseases rose to 152,000,while tuberculosis killed 1.2 million people that same *** regional variations exist in the distribution of these diseases as they are primarily concentrated in rural areas of Sub-Saharan Africa,Asia,and Latin America,with geographic overlap and high levels of ***-based interventions exist to prevent and control these diseases,however,the coverage still remains low with an emerging challenge of antimicrobial ***,community-based delivery platforms are increasingly being advocated to ensure sustainability and combat *** of the high morbidity and mortality burden of these diseases,especially in resource-poor settings,it is imperative to conduct a systematic review to identify strategies to prevent and control these ***,we attempted to evaluate the effectiveness of one of these strategies,that is community-based delivery for the prevention and treatment of *** this paper,we describe the burden,epidemiology,and potential interventions for *** subsequent papers of this series,we describe the analytical framework and the methodology used to guide the systematic reviews,and report the findings and interpretations of our analyses of the impact of community-based strategies on individual IDoPs.
