kidney disease after non-kidney solid organ transplantation(NkSOT)is a common post-transplant complication associated with deleterious *** disease,both acute kidney injury and chronic kidney disease(CkD)alike,emanates from multifactorial,summative pre-,peri-and post-transplant *** factors leading to kidney disease are shared amongst solid organ transplantation in addition to distinct mechanisms unique to individual transplant *** aim of this review is to summarize the current literature describing kidney disease in *** conducted a narrative review of pertinent studies on the subject,limiting our search to full text studies in the English *** disease after NkSOT is prevalent,particularly in intestinal and lung *** strategies in the peri-operative and post-transplant periods including proteinuria management,calcineurin-inhibitor minimization/sparing approaches,and nephrology referral can counteract CkD progression and/or aid in subsequent kidney after solid organ *** disease after NkSOT is an important consideration in organ allocation practices,ethics of *** disease after SOT is an incipient condition demanding further *** some truths have been revealed about this chronic disease,as we have aimed to describe in this review,continued multidisciplinary efforts are needed more than ever to combat this threat to patient and allograft survival.

Dear Editor,Three polyamines,putrescine,spermidine,and spermine,are tightly regulated and are synthesized from arginine,ornithine,and methionine(Miller-Fleming et al.,2015;Figure 1A).Polyamine levels are increased in the red blood cells of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease(PD)patients(Miller-Fleming et al.,2015).Sulfur amino acid catabolism regulated by the molybdopterin synthase associating complex prevents onset of early events in PD and Alzheimer’s disease(Suganuma et al.,2018).MPT synthase,a heterodimer of MOCS2A and MOCS2B encoded by MOCS2,is essential for the biosynthesis of molybdenum cofactor(Moco).

The tooth enamel development gene, enamelin （ENAM）, showed evidence of positive selection during a genome-wide scan of human and primate DNA for signs of adaptive evolution. The current study examined the hypothesis that a single-nucleotide polymorphism （SNP） C14625T （rs7671281） in the ENAM gene identified in the genome-wide scan is associated with a change in enamel phenotype. African Americans were selected as the target population, as they have been reported to have a target SNP frequency of approximately 50%, whereas non-Africans are predicted to have a 96% SNP frequency. Digital radiographs and DNA samples from 244 teeth in 133 subjects were analysed, and enamel thickness was assessed in relation to SNP status, controlling for age, sex, tooth number and crown length. Crown length was found to increase with molar number, and females were found to have thicker enamel. Teeth with larger crowns also had thicker enamel, and older subjects had thinner enamel. Linear regression and generalized estimating equations were used to investigate the relationship between enamel thickness of the mandibular molars and ENAM SNP status; enamel in subjects with the derived allele was significantly thinner （P= 0.040） when the results were controlled for sex, age, tooth number and crown length. The derived allele demonstrated a recessive effect on the phenotype. The data indicate that thinner dental enamel is associated with the derived ENAM genotype. This is the first direct evidence of a dental gene implicated in human adaptive evolution as having a phenotypic effect on an oral structure.

To investigate the reproducibility of the in vivo endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) - guided needle based confocal endomicroscopy (nCLE) image patterns in an ex vivo setting and compare these to surgical histopathology for characterizing pancreatic cystic lesions (PCLs).METHODSIn a prospective study evaluating EUS-nCLE for evaluation of PCLs, 10 subjects underwent an in vivo nCLE (AQ-Flex nCLE miniprobe; Cellvizio, Maunakea, Paris, France) during EUS and ex vivo probe based CLE (pCLE) of the PCL (Gastroflex ultrahigh definition probe, Cellvizio) after surgical resection. Biopsies were obtained from ex vivo CLE-imaged areas for comparative histopathology. All subjects received intravenous fluorescein prior to EUS and pancreatic surgery for in vivo and ex vivo CLE imaging *** total of 10 subjects (mean age 53 ± 12 years; 5 female) with a mean PCL size of 34.8 ± 14.3 mm were enrolled. Surgical histopathology confirmed 2 intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMNs), 3 mucinous cystic neoplasms (MCNs), 2 cystic neuroendocrine tumors (cystic-NETs), 1 serous cystadenoma (SCA), and 2 squamous lined PCLs. Characteristic in vivo nCLE image patterns included papillary projections for IPMNs, horizon-type epithelial bands for MCNs, nests and trabeculae of cells for cystic-NETs, and a “fern pattern” of vascularity for SCA. Identical image patterns were observed during ex vivo pCLE imaging of the surgically resected PCLs. Both in vivo and ex vivo CLE imaging findings correlated with surgical *** vivo nCLE patterns are reproducible in ex vivo pCLE for all major neoplastic PCLs. These findings add further support the application of EUS-nCLE as an imaging biomarker in the diagnosis of PCLs.

Cullin-RING ligases(CRLs)comprise a large group of modular eukaryotic E3 ubiquitin *** this family,the CRL4 ligase(consisting of the Cullin4[CUL4]scaffold protein,the Rbxl RING finger domain protein,the DNA damage-binding protein 1[DDB1],and one of many DDBl-associated substrate receptor proteins)has been intensively studied in recent years due to its involvement in regulating various cellular processes,its role in cancer development and progression,and its subversion by viral accessory *** discovered as a target for hijacking by the human immunodeficiency virus accessory protein r,the normal targets and function of the CRL4 substrate receptor protein DDBl-Cul4-associated factor 1(DCAF1;also known as VprBP)had remained elusive,but newer studies have begun to shed light on these ***,we review recent progress in understanding the diverse physiological roles of this DCAF1 in supporting various general and cell type-specific cellular processes in its context with the CRL4 E3 ligase,as well as another HECT-type E3 ligase with which DCAF1 also associates,called EDD/*** also discuss emerging questions and areas of future study to uncover the dynamic roles of DCAF1 in normal physiology.

Sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors(SGLT2i)are novel oral hypoglycemic agents garnering much attention for their substantial *** recent data have positioned SGLT2i at the forefront of diabetic chronic kidney disease(CkD)and heart failure ***2i use post-kidney transplant is an emerging area of *** from this mini review include the following:Empagliflozin is the most prescribed SGLT2i in kidney transplant recipients(kTRs),median time from transplant to initiation was 3 years(range:0.88-9.6 years).Median baseline estimated glomerular filtration rate(eGFR)was 66.7 mL/min/1.73 m2(range:50.4-75.8).Median glycohemoglobin(HgbA1c)at initiation was 7.7%(range:6.9-9.3).SGLT2i were demonstrated to be effective short-term impacting HgbA1c,eGFR,hemoglobin/hematocrit,serum uric acid,and serum magnesium *** are shown to be safe in kTRs with low rates of infections,hypoglycemia,euglycemic diabetic ketoacidosis,and stable tacrolimus *** data is needed to demonstrate long-term ***2i appear to be safe,effective medications for select *** present literature,though limited,is founded on precedent robust research in CkD patients with *** research/utilization of SGLT2i is vital to not only identify long-term patient,graft and cardiovascular outcomes of these agents,but also to augment management in kTRs.

The reintroduction of fire to landscapes where it was once common is considered a priority to restore historical forest dynamics,including reducing tree density and decreasing levels of woody biomass on the forest ***,reintroducing fire causes tree mortality that can have unintended ecological outcomes related to woody biomass,with potential impacts to fuel accumulation,carbon sequestration,subsequent fire severity,and forest *** this study,we examine the interplay between fire and carbon dynamics by asking how reintroduced fire impacts fuel accumulation,carbon sequestration,and subsequent fire severity *** pre-fire,and continuing 6 years post-fire,we tracked all live,dead,and fallen trees≥1 cm in diameter and mapped all pieces of deadwood(downed woody debris)originating from tree boles≥10 cm diameter and≥1 m in length in 25.6 ha of an Abies concolor/Pinus lambertiana forest in the central Sierra Nevada,California,*** also tracked surface fuels along 2240 m of planar transects pre-fire,immediately post-fire,and 6 years *** years after moderate-severity fire,deadwood≥10 cm diameter was 73 Mg ha^(−1),comprised of 32 Mg ha^(−1) that persisted through fire and 41 Mg ha^(−1) of newly fallen wood(compared to 72 Mg ha^(−1) pre-fire).Woody surface fuel loading was spatially heterogeneous,with mass varying almost four orders of magnitude at the scale of 20 m×20 m quadrats(minimum,0.1 Mg ha^(−1);mean,73 Mg ha^(−1);maximum,497 Mg ha^(−1)).Wood from large-diameter trees(≥60 cm diameter)comprised 57%of surface fuel in 2019,but was 75%of snag biomass,indicating high contributions to current and future fuel *** of fire does not consume all large-diameter fuel and generates high levels of surface fuels≥10 cm diameter within 6 *** fires are needed to reduce surface fuel loading.
