Effect of short-range order on the high-temperature plastic deformation behavior of Ni-Cr-W,Ni-W,and Ni-Re single crystals

The development of a Ni-based superalloy that consists of only theγ-solid-solution phase is highly desired for some applications such as high-temperature gas-cooled reactors in power *** this study,the temperature dependence of the plastic deformation behavior of Ni-22Cr-8W(at%)alloy was examined for the first time by using a single crystal,focusing on the influence of the short-range order(SRO),especially upon high-temperature deformation *** critical resolved shear stress(CRSS)for(111)[10¯1]slip exhibited a rapid decrease as the temperature increased at low temperatures but an almost constant value of∼45 MPa between 500 and 900℃.In addition,a slight yield stress anomaly(YSA)was observed,reaching a maximum value at 1000℃.To clarify the influence of the SRO on the YSA behavior,the mechanical properties of Ni-8W and Ni-5Re single crystals were also *** temperature dependence for the CRSS,including the occurrence of slight YSA,was observed for Ni-8W,in which SRO *** the Ni-5Re single crystal in which SRO did not significantly develop,however,the CRSS monotonically decreased as the temperature *** results suggest that the presence of SRO in a Ni-Cr-W alloy contributes to the strengthening of the alloy not only at low temperatures but also at high temperatures up to∼1000℃.The results strongly suggested that the pseudo-PLC effect is related to the origin of YSA appearing in Ni-basedγ-solid-solution alloys at high temperatures.

For the development of high-strength Mg alloys,active use of Laves phases such as C14-type Mg_(2)Yb and Mg_(2)Ca is strongly ***,the brittleness of the Laves phases is the biggest obstacle to *** first found that kink-band formation can be induced in directionally solidified Mg/Mg_(2)Yb and Mg/Mg_(2)Ca eutectic lamellar alloys when a stress is applied parallel to the lamellar interface,leading to a high yield stress accompanied with *** is,microstructural control can induce a new deformation mode that is not activated in the constituent phases,thereby inducing *** was clarified that the geometric relationship between the operative slip plane in the constituent phases and the lamellar interface,and the microstructural features that provide kink-band nucleation sites are important factors for controlling kink-band *** obtained results show a possibility to open the new door for the development of novel high-strength structural material using the kink bands.

We evaluated the phenology and litterfall dynamics of the mangrove Bruguiera gymnorrhiza（L.）Lamk along the Okukubi River, Okinawa Island, *** 3 years, this species showed the highest litterfall of leaves and stipules in summer and the lowest litterfall in winter. From kendall＇s coefficient of concordance, the monthly changes in leaf, stipule, and branch were strongly and significantly concordant among years. Leaf and stipule litterfall could be governed by monthly maximum wind speed, monthly day length, and monthly mean air temperature. Branch litterfall depended on monthly maximum wind speed and monthly rainfall, and increased exponentially with increasing monthly maximum wind speed. Mean total litterfall was 11.8 Mg ha^（-1）yr^（-1）, with the largest component being leaf litterfall（65.8 %）. Annual leaf litterfall per plot was almost constant regardless of the tree density of the plot. Mean leaf longevity was 18 *** and mature propagule litterfall might be influenced by monthly mean air temperature, monthly day length and monthly mean air temperature. The average development periods from flower buds to flowers and flower buds to mature propagules were 1 and 8 months, *** for leaf and branch, all vegetative and reproductive organ litterfall had clear annual cycles. B. gymnorrhiza showed a positive correlation between leaf production and reproductive organ production.

Background： Progress of forest production in response to the environment requires a quantitative understanding of leaf area development. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate the dynamics of seasonal crown foliage in order to understand the productivity of mangroves, which play an important role in the subtropical and tropical coastlines of the world. Method： Crown foliage dynamics of the mangrove Rhizophora styloso were studies to reveal patterns of leaf recruitment, survival and seasonal leaf area growth. Results： Flushing of leaves occurred throughout the year, but both flushing and leaf area growth pattern of leaves varied with season. Maximum flushing occurred in summer, but leaf areas did not differ significantly with season. The half-expansion period is longer, and the intrinsic rate of increase was lower in winter. Summer flushed leaves grew faster at their initial stage and reached their maximum area over a shorter period of time. The difference in temperature and air vapor pressure deficit （VPD） between summer and winter contributed to the present dynamics of foliage patterns. The mean leaf longevity was estimated to be 13.1 month. The crown foliage area was almost stable throughout the year. Conclusions： Homeostatic control of the crown foliage area may be accompanied by the existence of ecophysiological mechanisms in R. stylosa. Integrating crown foliage dynamics into forest models represents an important step towards incorporating physiological mechanisms into the models for predicting growth responses to environmental changes and for understanding the complex responses of tree growth and litter production.

The antimicrobial properties of cis-6-hexadecenoic acid (C16:1Δ6), a component of the innate human metabolome, were studied and its application to cosmetic products was investigated in detail. A variety of the resident and transient microbial flora of the skin, oral cavity, and intestine was applied to an investigation of the antimicrobial activity of C16:1Δ6. C16:1Δ6 showed selective antibacterial activity against human microbial pathogens such as Clostridium perfringens (one of the most common causes of food poisoning) and Streptococcus mutans (one of the tooth-decaying bacteria), as well as Staphylococcus aureus. C16:1Δ6 seemed to possess a “species-selective” antibacterial activity against bacteria belonging to the genera Staphylococcus and Clostridium. We performed a preliminary assessment of the application of C16:1Δ6 as an antimicrobial component in a liquid lip gloss by performing preservation efficacy and home-use tests. We noted that the amount of p-hydroxybenzoate was needed in an oily cosmetic, especially liquid lip gloss, could be reduced by replacing p-hydroxybenzoate with C16:1Δ6. We suggest that C16:1Δ6 may find application as a stable antimicrobial substance gentle enough for use in consumer products by its selective antimicrobial characteristics.
