This paper deals with the technology of using comb filters for FIR Decimation in Digital Signal Processing. The process of decreasing the sampling frequency of a sampled signal is called decimation. In the usage of decimating filters, only a portion of the out-of-pass band frequencies turns into the pass band, in systems wherein different parts operate at different sample rates. A filter design, tuned to the aliasing frequencies all of which can otherwise steal into the pass band, not only provides multiple stop bands but also exhibits computational efficiency and performance superiority over the single stop band design. These filters are referred to as multiband designs in the family of FIR filters. The other two special versions of FIR filter designs are Halfband and Comb filter designs, both of which are particularly useful for reducing the computational requirements in multirate designs. The proposed method of using Comb FIR decimation procedure is not only efficient but also opens up a new vista of simplicity and elegancy to compute Multiplications per Second (MPS) and Additions per Second (APS) for the desired filter over and above the half band designs.

There are so many existing methods to obtain system reliability like re-generating point function technique, supplementary variables technique etc., but all these techniques are full of complicated calculations. keeping above these facts in mind, the authors in this paper have evaluated some reliability parameters for tele-communication system by using Boolean functions technique and algebraic method. Reliability of considered tele-communication system has been evaluated by considering the fact that failures follow arbitrary time distribution. In particular, the reliability expression has also been calculated for Exponential and Weibull distributions. Further, an important reliability parameter namely M.T.T.F. (mean time to failure) has also been calculated. A numerical example with graphical illustrations has been appended at the end to highlight the important results and practical utility of the model.

New low-power Level Shifter (LS) circuit is designed by using sleep transistor with Multi Threshold CMOS (MTCMOS) technique for robust logic voltage shifting from sub-threshold to above- threshold domain. MultiSupply Voltage Design (MSVD) technique is mainly used for energy and speed in modern system-on-chip. In MSVD, level shifters are required to allow different voltage supply to shift from the lower power supply voltage to the higher power supply voltage. This new low-power level shifter circuit is also used for fast response and low leakage power consumption. This low leakage power consumption can be achieved through insertion of sleep transistor and proper transistors sizing. The proposed design efficiently converts 100 mv input signal into 1 v output signal and achieves the power of 2.56 nW by using 90 nm technology.

Motive of the study is to present quantitative and qualitative analysis and comparison of beam data measurement with FF (flattening filter) and FFF (flattening filter free) beam in a Varian TrueBeamTM Medical Linear Accelerator. Critique of beam characterization and evolution of dosimetric properties for 6 MV, 10 MV, 15 MV FF beam and 6 MVFFF, 10 MVFFF FFF beam has been carried out. We performed the comparison of photon beam data for two standard FF photon energy 6 MV, 10 MV verses 6 MVFFF, and 10 MVFFF FFF beam. Determination and comparison of parameter involved PDD (Percentage depth dose), Depth dose profile, Symmetry, Flatness, Quality index, Relative output factor, Penumbra, Transmission factor, DLG (Dosimetric leaf gap), in addition to degree of Un-flatness and off-axis ratio of FFF beam. Outcomes of presenting study had shown that change of various parameters such as Percentage depth dose curves, Shape of the depth dose profile, Transmission, Value of quality index and significant rise in surface dose for FFF in comparison with FF beam. Differences in the output factor at lower and higher field sizes for FFF beam compared to that of FF beam were found. The maximum output factor deviation between 6 MV and 6 MVFFF was found to be 4.55%, whereas in 10 MV and 10 MVFFF was 5.71%. Beam quality TPR20/10 for FFF beam was found to be lesser in magnitude, 5.42% for 6 MVFFF whereas 4.50% for 10 MVFFF compared to 6 MV and 10 MV FF beam respectively. Jaw transmission and interleaf leakage for FFF beam were found to be lesser than FF beam. Also DLG for FFF beam was found to be lesser in magnitude comparable to that of flattened beam. This study is mainly inclined towards evaluation and comparison of the FF and FFF beam. It has been observed that, the outcome of a commissioning beam data generation fully complies with vendor specification and published literature.

Nepal and Japan, both are multi-hazard prone countries having experience of devastating disasters. It is difficult, if not impossible, to stop natural hazard events at source. However, the impact can be reduced significantly by preventing them from turning into disasters. The impact of disasters can vary depending on the capacity to handle the situation;and the capacity depends on the level of preparedness and mitigation measures taken in advance. Japan has set example for the rest of the world when it comes to Disaster Risk Management (DRM). Recovery and reconstruction after disasters are not just to develop the area as it was earlier, but it has to be taken as an opportunity for developing better than earlier, which is called as “Build Back Better”. This concept was raised by Japanese Government in UN World conference, Sendai in 2015 [1]. Dynamic, evolutionary and proactive DRM policy and plans with innovation, and the use of science and technology to find solutions, and effective implementation of the policy and plans, coupled with the culture of safety among the citizens, and the spirit of never give up “Nana karobiYa Oki” (Seven times fall down, Eight times get up), are the unique features that every country should learn from Japan’s DRM mechanism. This paper is an effort to buy-in the good practices from Japan to improve DRM system in Nepal. It is a product of three-month intensive research in the University of Tokyo under a PhD research that consisted of reviewing existing DRM documents and several interactive meetings with stakeholders in Japan.

背景:三踝骨折为临床常见损伤,多由踝关节旋转暴力所致。后踝是踝关节的重要组成部分,通过与下胫腓后韧带(PITFL)的解剖连接关系,在踝关节稳定性中起着不可或缺的作用。目的:总结经后外侧入路治疗三踝骨折中后踝骨折的优势,比较采用螺钉或钢板固定后踝骨折的临床效果。方法:本文采用回顾性研究,收集了自2012年6月至2017年6月在东南大学附属中大医院经手术治疗的三踝骨折患者的病例资料。所有手术均选择后外侧入路以固定后踝和外踝骨折线。根据后踝固定材料不同,将患者分为螺钉组和钢板组。记录并比较各组患者的受伤日(DOI)与手术日(DOS)间隔时间、皮肤切口长度、手术时间、术中失血量、住院时间及骨折愈合情况,并且术后立即和每四周行影像学评估。采用美国矫形外科足踝协会(AOFAS)和Olerud-Molander评分量表作为评价依据。各数据由SPSS20.0进行统计学分析。结果:共纳入45例三踝骨折患者。男性患者15例,女性患者30例。其中25名患者使用螺钉固定后踝骨折,20名患者使用钢板固定后踝骨折。螺钉组的平均年龄为52.1±15.2(20-76)岁,钢板组为 50.2±14.2(23-78)岁,无统计学差异(p>0.668)。DOI与DOS间隔时间无统计学差异(p>0.295)。同时,两组皮肤切口长度、手术时间、术中出血量和住院时间亦无统计学差异。螺钉组的平均随访时间为40.0±16.39(18-64)月,钢板组为33.95±16.51(15-62)月。随访期间没有发小内植物松动、移位或断裂等情况。螺钉组的骨折愈合平均时间为5.20±1.38(3-7)月,钢板组为5.00±1.12(3-7)月。螺钉组的 AOFAS评分为 87.70+10.99(59-100),Olerud-Molander评分为 91.56+11.73(55-100);钢板组的 AOFAS 评分为 85.85+13.09(39-100),Olerud-Molander评分为90.30+12.21(45-100)。两组的AOFAS评分和Olerud-Molander评分无统计学差异差异(p>0.425和p>0.471)。结论:后外侧入路治疗踝关节骨折能够同时固定外踝和后踝,获得更好的临床效果。在我们的研究中,后踝骨折使用螺钉或钢板内固定术都能对后踝提供良好的力学稳定性,并且两组的治疗效果相当,均有良好的临床预后。

In this paper, we have considered an inhomogeneous beam with a damping distributed along the length of the beam. The beam is clamped at both ends and is assumed to vibrate longitudinally. We have estimated the total energy of the system at any time t. By constructing suitable Lyapunov functional, it is established directly that the energy of this system decays exponentially.

Here we study a problem of stabilization of the flexural vibrations or transverse vibrations of a rectangular solar panel. The dynamics of vibrations is governed by the fourth order Euler-Bernoulli beam equation. One end of the panel is held by a rigid hub and other end is totally free. Due to attachment of the hub, its dynamics leads to a non-standard equation. The exponential stabilization of the whole system is achieved by applying an active boundary control force only on the rigid hub. The result of uniform stabilization is obtained by means of an explicit form of exponential energy decay estimate.

The influence of low energy laser peening on fatigue lives of Ti-6Al-4V was investigated. Laser peening was carried out on Ti-6Al-4V samples. Laser peened samples were characterized by residual stress analysis, surface roughness measurements, X-ray diffraction, optical microscopy, nanoindentation hardness tests, scanning and transmission electron microscopy and fatigue testing. Laser peening resulted in the formation of nanocrystallites on the surface and near surface regions with associated increase in hardness and introduction of compressive residual stress. Owing to positive influence of nanostructured surface and compressive residual stress, fatigue lives of the laser peened samples were significantly increased compared to the unpeened samples.
