Effect of fusion welding processes on tensile properties of armor grade, high thick.ess, non-heat treatable aluminium alloy joints

AA5059 is one of the high strength armor grade aluminium alloy that finds its applications in the military vehicles due to the higher resistance against the armor piercing (AP) threats. This study aimed at finding the best suitable process among the fusion welding processes such as gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) and gas metal arc welding (GMAW) by evaluating the tensile properties of AA5059 aluminium alloy joints. The fracture path was identified by mapping the low hardness distribution profile (LHDP) across the weld cross section under tensile loading. Optical and scanning electron microscopies were used to characterize the microstructural features of the welded joints at various zones. It is evident from the results that GTAW joints showed superior tensile properties compared to GMAW joints and this is primarily owing to the presence of finer grains in the weld metal zone (WMZ) and narrow heat-affected zone (HAZ). The lower heat input associated with the GTAW process effectively reduced the size of the WMZ and HAZ compared to GMAW process. Lower heat input of GTAW process results in faster cooling rate which hinders the grain growth and reduces the evaporation of magnesium in weld metal compared to GMAW joints. The fracture surface of GTAW joint consists of more dimples than GMAW joints which is an indication that the GTAW joint possess improved ductility than GMAW joint.

Atrial fibrillation(AF)is the most common form of cardiac arrhythmia,affecting 3 to 6 million people in the US,with an increased incidence in women and elderly,with its prevalence estimated to increase from 5.1 million in 2000 to 15.9 million in 2050 in the US population.[1]Age,hypertension,heart failure,myocardial infarction(MI),genetic factors,and associated systemic inflammatory states are well-established risk.factors for the development of AF.[2–6]Lifestyle factors including alcohol consumption,smok.ng,obesity,sedentary lifestyle,and vigorous physical activity have also been implicated to contribute to the development of AF.[2,7–9]Studies suggest that AF drives up medical expenditure.[10]The European Society of Cardiology,based on the duration,responsiveness to treatment,and therapeutic attitude of the patient and physician,classifies AF into 4 types;when AF occurs and terminates by itself or by intervention within 7 days of onset,it is called paroxysmal AF;if sustained for more than a week.with or without intervention.

Analysis of Nanof luids as Cutting Fluid in Grinding EN-31 Steel

Grinding requires high specific energy which develops high temperatures at wheel work.piece interface. High temperatures impair work.piece quality by inducing tensile residual stress, burn, and micro crack.. Control of grinding temperature is achieved by providing effective cooling and lubrication. Conventional flood cooling is often ineffective due to enormous heat generation and improper heat dissipation. This paper deals with an investigation on using TRIM E709 emulsifier with Al_2O_3 nanoparticles to reduce the heat generated at grinding zone. An experimental setup has been developed for this and detailed comparison has been done with dry, TRIM E709 emulsifier and TRIM E709 emulsifier with Al_2O_3 nanoparticles in grinding EN-31 steel in terms of temperature distribution and surface finish. Results shows that surface roughness and heat penetration were decreased with addition of Al_2O_3 nanoparticles.

Synthesis and catalytic activity of SBA-15 supported catalysts for styrene oxidation

Cu(II) and Mn(II) metals embedded on mesoporous SBA-15 were synthesized by co-precipitation *** support and catalysts were characterized by SEM–EDX,TEM,BET,XRD and ICP-AES *** catalytic activity of these catalysts was evaluated for styrene oxidation at various reaction conditions such as styrene to TBHP mole ratio,temperature,catalyst amount by using TBHP as an oxidizing *** reaction products were styrene oxide and benzaldehyde and highest styrene conversion(97.3%) was observed at styrene to TBHP mole ratio of 1:4,temperature at 80 °C and 20 mg of ***,the recyclability of the catalysts was observed and found that they can be recycled three times without major loss in their activity and selectivity.

Arsenic toxicity in mice and its possible amelioration

Oral administration of arsenic trioxide(3 and 6 mg/k. body weight/d) for 30 d caused, as compared with vehicle control, dose dependent significant reductions in body weight, absolute weight, protein, glycogen, as well as, total, dehydro and reduced ascorbic acid contents both in the liver and k.dney of arsenic treated mice. Succinic dehydrogenase(SDH) and phosphorylase only in the liver activities were significantly reduced in a dose dependent manner. Acid phosphatase activity was significantly decreased in the liver of low dose arsenic treated animals; however, significant rise in its activity was observed in high dose group. As compared with vehicle control, treatment also caused significant dose dependent reductions in SDH, alk.line phosphatase and acid phosphatase activities in the k.dney of mice. Vitamin E cotreatment as well as, 30 d withdrawal of arsenic trioxide treatment with or without vitamin E caused significant amelioration in arsenic induced toxicity in mice. Administration of vitamin E during withdrawal of treatment also caused significant amelioration as compared from only withdrawal of the treatment. It is concluded that vitamin E ameliorates arsenic induced toxicities in the liver and k.dney of mice.

Electronic structure and bonding interactions in Ba1-xSrxZr0.1Ti0.9O3 ceramics

An investigation on the precise electronic structure and bonding interactions has been carried out on Ba1-xSrxZr0.1Ti0.9O3 （short for BSZT, x = 0, 0.05, 0.07 and 0.14） ceramic systems prepared via high-temperature solid state reaction technique. The influence of Sr doping on the BSZT structure has been examined by characterizing the prepared samples using PXRD, UV-visible spectrophotometry, SEM and EDS. Powder profile refinement of X-ray data confirms that all the synthesized samples have been crystallized in cubic perovsk.te structure with single phase. Charge density distribution of the BSZT systems has been completely analyzed by the maximum entropy method （MEM）. Co-substitution of Sr at the Ba site and Zr at the Ti site into the BaTiOz structure presents the ionic nature between Ba and O ions and the covalent nature between Ti and O ions, revealed from MEM calculations. Optical band gap values have been evaluated from UV-visible absorption spectra. Particles with irregular shapes and well defined grain boundaries are clearly visualized from SEM images. The phase purity of the prepared samples is further confirmed by EDS qualitative spectral analysis.

Propylphosphonic anhydride(T3P~) catalyzed one-pot synthesis of α-aminonitriles

The Streck.r reaction was performed via a one-pot three component condensation of hetero aromatic/ aromatic aldehydes, secondary amines and trimetylsilyl cyanide in the presence of propylphosphonic anhydride （T3P） to accomplish the corresponding α-aminonitriles. The main advantages of this method are very short reaction time and excellent yields.

Camphor-derived thioureas: Synthesis and application in asymmetric k.bachnik.Fields reaction

A series of camphor-derived thiourea organocatalysts 3a–f were designed and synthesized from（1R,3S）-camphoric acid 1 and applied to the one-pot three-component k.bachnik.Fields reaction. Catalyst 3c was found to be an efficient organocatalyst for the reaction of 2-cyclopropylpyrimidin-4-carbaldehyde 4,various amines 5, and diphenylphosphite 6 to yield the corresponding enantioselective a-aminophosphonates 7a–e in 74%–82% yields and 14%–35% ee.

BanSatDB, a whole-genome-based database of putative and experimentally validated microsatellite mark.rs of three Musa species

The genus Musa is one of three genera in the family Musaceae, which includes bananas and plantains, which are monocotyledonous plants. Bananas have valuable nutritional content of vitamin C, B6, minerals, and dietary fiber and are a rich food energy source, given that carbohydrates account for 22%–32% of fruit weight. Molecular mark.rs are valuable for crop improvement and population genetics studies. The availability of whole-genome sequence and in silico approaches has revolutionized bulk.mark.r discovery. We describe an online web genomic resource, BanSatDB(http://***/bansatdb/) having the highest number(>341,000) of putative STR mark.rs from Musa genera so far, represented by three species: M. acuminata(110,000), M. balbisiana(107,000), and M. itinerans(124,000)from 11 chromosomes of each species. BanSatDB has also been populated with 580 validated STR mark.rs from the published literature. It is based on a three-tier architecture using MySQL, PHP and Apache. The mark.rs can be retrieved by use of multiple search parameters including chromosome number(s), microsatellite types(simple or compound),repeat nucleotides(1–6), copy number, microsatellite length, pattern of repeat motif, and chromosome location. These mark.rs can be used for Distinctness, Uniformity and Stability(DUS) tests of variety identification and for mark.r assisted selection(MAS) in variety improvement and management. These STRs have also proved to be helpful in classification of Musa germplasm to distinguish individual accessions and in the development of a standardized procedure for genotyping. These mark.rs can also be used in gene discovery and QTL mapping. The database represents a source of mark.rs for developing and implementing new approaches for molecular breeding, which are required to enhance banana productivity.
