Ballistic design and testing of a composite armour reinforced by CNTs suitable for armoured veh.cles

Th.s paper is investigating th. use of composite armour reinforced by nanomaterials, for th. protection of ligh. armoured(LAV) and medium armoured military veh.cles(MAV), and th. interaction between th. composite materials and h.gh.performance ballistic projectiles. Four armour materials, consisted of front h.brid fibre reinforced polymer cover layer, ceramic strik.-face, fibre reinforced polymer intermediate layer and th. metal matrix composite reinforced back.late, were manufactured and assembled by adh.sive tech.ology. Th. proposed laminated protection system is suitable for armoured ground veh.cles;h.wever, it could be used as armour on ground, air and naval platforms. Th. design of th. protection system, including material selection and th.ck.ess, was elaborated depending on th. performance requirements of Level 4 + STANAG 4569 military standard(projectile 14.5 mm × 114 mm API B32) and especially on a design ph.losoph. wh.ch.is analysed with.th. specifications. Th. back.late of th.s new composite is a h.brid material of Metal Matrix Composite(MMC) reinforced with.carbon nanotubes(CNTs), manufactured with.th. use of powder metallurgy tech.ique. Th. composite back.late material was morph.logically, mech.nically and ch.mically analysed. Results sh.w th.t all plates are presenting h.gh.mech.nical properties and ballistic ch.racteristics, compared to commonly used armour plates. Real military ballistic tests according to AEP-STANAG 4569 were carried out for th. total composite armour systems. After th. ballistic tests, AA2024-CNT3 sh.wed th. best protection results, compared with.th. oth.r plates(AA2024-CNT1 and AA2024-CNT2), with.th. projectile being unable to fully penetrate th. composite plate.

CT Th.esh.lds for Spinal Bone Mineral Attenuation to Prioritize Eligible Older Women for Osteoporosis Screening

Introduction: Computed tomograph. (CT) measurements of bone mineral attenuation may be a useful means to identify older women wh. sh.uld be prioritized for bone mineral density screening. Meth.ds: We compared bone mineral attenuation as measured in th. L1 vertebra of CT studies to th. results of dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) studies to determine wh.t CT attenuation th.esh.lds migh. yield a reasonable combination of sensitivity and specificity for th. detection of osteoporosis. Th. study was limited to women between th. ages of 65 and 75 years wh. h.d a DEXA study and a CT th.t included th. L1 or adjacent vertebra performed with.n 3 years of th. DEXA study. Results: Th.re were 1226 women in th.s study, of wh.m 452 (38%) h.d osteoporosis based on a T-score ≤ −2.5 by DEXA. Th.re were 830 CT studies performed with.contrast and 396 studies wh.ch.were performed with.ut contrast. Th.re was a statistically significant difference in th. mean h. of th.se studies performed with.ut contrast compared to th.se with.contrast (unenh.nced mean 103 h. versus 125 h., p h.esh.lds provided th. most appropriate combination of sensitivity and specificity for th. detection of osteoporosis wh.n comparing CT studies performed with.ut or with.IV contrast and wh.n all th. CT data were used in aggregate. Conclusion: Different th.esh.lds appear necessary wh.n using th. mean CT vertebral attenuation to identify older women for preferential referral for DEXA studies.

We present th. results from a long term X-ray analysis of Mrk.279 during th. period 2018–*** use data from multiple missions–AstroSat,NuSTAR and XMM-Newton,for th. *** X-ray spectrum can be modeled as a double Comptonization along with.th. presence of neutral Fe k.line emission,at all *** determined th. source’s X-ray flux and luminosity at th.se different *** find significant variations in th. source’s flux *** also investigate th. variations in th. source’s spectral components during th. observation *** find th.t th. ph.ton index and h.nce th. spectral sh.pe follow th. variations only over longer time *** probe th. correlations between fluxes of different bands and th.ir ph.ton indices,and found no significant correlations between th. parameters.

BTh.at 81 out of 112 stations).After considering th. impacts of particulate matter,th. integrated h.alth.risk.of air pollution mixtures declined almost everywh.re in th. *** results underscore th. great necessity of ch.nging th. assessment paradigm of pollution control from using concentration-based meth.ds to using risk.based *** with.th. carbon neutrality policy,stringent control of NO_(x)emission from combustion sources is a promising way to ach.eve synergistic control solutions for air pollution and climate ch.nge.

Th. efficient copolymerization of olefin with.polar monomers using nick.l-based catalysts presents a longstanding ch.llenge. In th.s contribution, th.ee ph.sph.ne-benzocyclone ligands and corresponding neutral nick.l catalysts(Ni1: Ar = Ph.Ni2: Ar = 2-(C_(6)h.(5))C_(6)h.(4);Ni3: Ar = 2-[2',6'-(Me O)_(2)-C_(6)h.]C_(6)h.(4)) were prepared and applied for th. eth.lene polymerization and copolymerization with.polar monomers with.ut any cocatalyst. Th. bulk. substituent groups in complexes Ni2 and Ni3 contributed to h.gh.catalytic activities(up to 7.24×10^(6) and 9.04×10^(6)g·mol Ni^(-1)·h.(-1), respectively), and produced h.gh.molecular-weigh. polyeth.lene(Mw up to 545.7 k.Da). Complex Ni3 exh.bited h.gh.activities for eth.lene polymerization at th. level of 10^(6) g·mol Ni^(-1)·h.(-1) across a wide range from 30 ℃ to 120 ℃, exh.biting excellent h.gh.temperature tolerance. Th.se nick.l complexes were also effectively employed in th. copolymerization of eth.lene with.meth.l acrylate, eth.l acrylate, butyl acrylate and lauryl acrylate, producing copolymers with.h.gh.molecular weigh.s(Mw up to 80.5 k.Da) and h.gh.polar monomer incorporation(up to 8.2 mol%). Microstructure analyses revealed th.t th. introduction of large sterically h.ndered substituents facilitated th. incorporation of polar functional units into th. polymer back.one. Th.s study demonstrates th. potential of th.se nick.l-based catalysts for efficient copolymerization of olefin with.polar monomers.

Th. use of antibiotics in h.mans and animals h.s been mark.d as a significant step in h.alth.due to th.ir effectiveness in controlling and treating bacterial infections. Th. misuse and overuse of antibiotics h.ve been identified as risk.factors for bacterial resistance since microorganisms adapt and develop mech.nisms to defend against antibiotics. According to th. Centers for Disease Protection and Control (CDC), around 23,000 individuals die every year in th. United States due to antibiotic resistance complications. As a result, a demand for alternative treatments h.s been a goal for scientists as th. microbes adapt to selective pressure. Th. aim of th.s study is to test th. antibacterial activity of leaf extracts of Peganum h.rmala and h.loxylon salicornicum on both.Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria on various mediums. Th. results of th. study sh.wed th.t both.P. h.rmala and h. salicornicum inh.bited th. bacterial growth.in two different media. Th. results were also compared with.different common antibiotics used in both.h.man’s and animal’s fields and sh.wed a promising outcome as alternative antibiotics.
