The high intensity and high energy antiproton beams which will be produced at FAIR open the possibility to determine time-lik. electromagnetic form factors in a wide k.nematical range, through the annihilation reaction： p ＋ p → e^＋＋ e^-. The status of the proposed experiment as well as the expected results are presented on the basis of realistic simulations. The impact of these measurements on the understanding of the nucleon structure, of the asymptotic properties of form factors and of the reaction mechanism are discussed using model independent statements based on symmetry properties of the strong and electromagnetic interactions in connection with space-lik. data.

Miniaturization of light-emitting diodes(LEDs) with sizes down to a few micrometers has become a hot topic in both academia and industry due to their attractive applications on self-emissive displays for high-definition televisions,augmented/mixed realities and head-up displays, and also on optogenetics, high-speed light communication, etc. The conventional top-down technology uses dry etching to define the LED size, leading to damage to the LED side *** sizes of microLEDs approach the carrier diffusion length, the damaged side walls play an important role, reducing microLED performance significantly from that of large area LEDs. In this paper, we review our efforts on realization of microLEDs by direct bottom-up growth, based on selective area metal–organic vapor phase epitaxy. The individual LEDs based on either GaN nanowires or InGaN platelets are smaller than 1 μm in our approach. Such nano-LEDs can be used as building block. in arrays to assemble microLEDs with different sizes, avoiding the side wall damage by dry etching encountered for the top-down approach. The technology of InGaN platelets is especially interesting since InGaN quantum wells emitting red, green and blue light can be grown on such platelets with a low-level of strain by changing the indium content in the InGaN platelets. This technology is therefore very attractive for highly efficient microLEDs of three primary colors for displays.

Modeling of shear walls using finite shear connector elements based on continuum plasticity

Light-frame timber buildings are often stabilized against lateral loads by using diaphragm action of roofs, floors and walls. The mechanical behavior of the sheathing-to-framing joints has a significant impact on the structural performance of shear walls. Most sheathing-to-framing joints show nonlinear load-displacement characteristics with plastic behavior. This paper is focused on the finite element modeling of shear walls. The purpose is to present a new shear connector element based on the theory of continuum plasticity. The incremental load-displacement relationship is derived based on the elastic-plastic stiffness tensor including the elastic stiffness tensor, the plastic modulus, a function representing the yield criterion and a hardening rule, and function representing the plastic potential. The plastic properties are determined from experimental results obtained from testing actual connections. Load-displacement curves for shear walls are calculated using the shear connector model and they are compared with experimental and other computational results. Also, the ultimate horizontal load-carrying capacity is compared to results obtained by an analytical plastic design method. Good agreements are found.

Experimental analysis of tip vortex cavitation mitigation by controlled surface roughness

This study presents results of experiments where roughness applications are evaluated in delaying the tip vortex cavitation inception of an elliptical ***-speed video recordings and laser doppler velocimetry(LDV)measurements are employed to provide further details on the cavitation behavior and tip vortex flow properties in different roughness pattern *** angular momentum measurements of the vortex core region at one chord length downstream of the tip indicate that roughness leads to a lower angular momentum compared with the smooth foil condition while the vortex core radius remains similar in the smooth and roughened *** observations show that the cavitation number for tip vortex cavitation inception is reduced by 33%in the optimized roughness pattern compared with the smooth foil condition where the drag force increase is observed to be around 2%.During the tests,no obvious differences in the cavitation inception properties of uniform and non-uniform roughness distributions are ***,the drag force is found to be higher with a non-uniform roughness distribution.

Changes in the employment structure in rural China were studied with a focus on off-farm *** from the Chinese Household Income Project surveys were used,covering the same 14 provinces from 1988 to *** found that the proportion of adults in rural China with self-employment as their primary form of off-farm employment increased from only 2 percent in 1988 to 11 percent in 2013,with no further increases through *** 1988 and 1995,the rate of self-employment was highest in the eastern region but this regional pattern subsequently *** probability of being self-employed in rural China was higher among married males than among unmarried *** a migration experience increased the lik.lihood of being *** 1995,self-employed households have had a higher average income than other categories of *** on estimates of income functions,we conclude that the income premium from being self-employed increased rapidly from 1988 to 1995 to become remark.bly large when only a few adults were ***,as a larger fraction of the rural population entered self-employment,the payoff from being self-employed has rapidly diminished,although it was still substantial in 2018.

Endosymbiotic bacteria of insects can facilitate host expansion into novel niches by providing their host with a fitness benefit such as vitamins or amino acids that are otherwise lack.ng in their hosts’*** close association can lead to cospeciation between insects and their symbionts;however,the symbionts’small genome size leaves it susceptible to genome derogation which can result in symbiont ***,we screen chewing lice infesting shorebirds and terns to see what endosymbiotic bacteria are present,and build a summary phylogeny that includes louse endosymbiont sequences from this study as well as those from other louse genera,insects and bacteria strains from *** found a Sodalis-allied endosymbiont in Carduiceps,Lunaceps,Quadraceps,and Saemundssonia,as well as symbionts belonging to the family Enterobacteriaceae in Lunaceps,and *** louse species were host to both endosymbionts;however,the birds k.ntish Plover(Charadrius alexandrinus)and Greater Crested Tern(Thalasseus bergii)were host to two genera of lice,each of which was infested with a different group of *** the summary phylogeny the endosymbionts from shorebirds,and tern lice did not form a monophyletic group,and therefore lik.ly acquired their bacterial endosymbionts multiple times.
