Bac.0}round : This study examined the ameliorative effec. of D-3-O-methylc.iroinositol, isolated from the stem bark.of Piliostigma thonningii, on c.dmium c.loride-induc.d osteoporosis in male Wistar rats. Methods : Thirty-six rats were assigned to three treatment groups(n = 12). Group A(2 mL distilled water), group B:(2.5 mg/k. b.w. c.c._2) and group c.(2.5 mg/k. b.w. c.c._2 and D-3-O-methyl-c.iroinositol 2 mg/k. b.w.). Bone ash, c.lc.um, phosphate, magnesium, and zinc.c.ntent, as well as bone histologic.l c.anges were determined at the end of months 1, 2, and 3. Results : There were signific.nt differenc.s( P ≤ 0.05) in the weight of the c.rvic.l, tibia, and femoral bones in all groups. The serum c.nc.ntration of c.c._2 was signific.ntly different ac.oss the three groups with time. There was signific.nt variation( P c.oss groups. The c.nc.ntration of OH-proline was signific.ntly different( P c.oss groups. There were signific.nt differenc.s( P c.lc.um, magnesium, zinc. and phosphorus c.nc.ntrations. Histology revealed high levels of bone mineralisation in the c.c._2-treated group, indic.tive of osteoporosis with hypertrophied osteoc.tes, while the femur of Wistar rats treated with D-3-O-methyl-c.iroinositol showed bone trabec.lae and viable osteoc.tes. c.nc.usion : The study c.nc.uded that D-3-O-methyl-c.iroinositol extrac. from Piliostigma thionningii stem bark.ameliorated c.dmium c.loride-induc.d osteoporosis in male Wistar rats.

Coronavirus Disease-2019 (COVID-19) refers to a clinical disorder caused by a new coronavirus that emerged in late 2019. According to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, as of June 23 2020, over 15 million confirmed cases of patients with COVID-19 have been reported globally, out of which over 600,000 deaths were recorded. The management of patients with COVID-19 is critical. This position paper was prepared through online search for the available guideline in the literature to serve as treatment guidelines for Nigerian physiotherapists and possibly physiotherapists in Sub-Saharan Africa region.

Telomeres c.p ends of euk.ryotic.c.romosomes prevent them from degradation and ensure genomic.stability. c.c.3 is an essential telomere rec.uitment and maintenanc. protein. A temperature-sensitive point mutation in c.c.3 gene leads to telomere impairment, giving rise to c.c.3-1 mutants that suffer lethality at enhanc.d temperatures. Deleting Exo1 gene from these mutants, however, leads to the emergenc. of temperature-tolerant mutants c.lled survivors. Yeasts are k.own to exist as either diploids or haploids. These yeast genotypes generate survivors. The frequenc. of survivorship in the haploid genotype is one c.ll in 104 c.lls/generation at 36°c. however, the frequenc. at whic. they emerge in their diploid c.unterparts at the same temperature is not k.own. In this study, we investigated the frequenc. of Survivorship in heterozygous diploids of c.c.3-1exo1Δ mutants of S. c.revisiae at 36°c. Diploids were c.nstruc.ed by mating haploid strains of opposite mating type c.c.3-1 exo1:LEU strains with strains of c.c.3-1 exo1:HIS. The c.osses were 1296 × 3181, 2561 × 3182, 1296 × 3182 and 2561 × 3181. Genetic.mark.rs and phenotypic.appearanc. were c.nsidered while mating the mutant c.lls. Using a stic.0} a smear of one haploid strain was made on eac. YEPD plate labelled c., c., c., D1, D14, and D15. A smear of another opposite mating type was made on the previous strain. They were mixed and allowed to mate overnight, before c.lturing on media lac.0}ng Luec.ne and Histidine (-L and -H). Survivors were generated by c.lturing these diploids at 36°c. Using SPSS 20.0 software for windows SPSS, 2011, the frequenc. was determined as one Survivor c.ll in 72 c.lls/generation, as their frequenc. of survivorship averaged 5.9 × 10-5 ± 0.04.

Mild Steel c.rrosion Mitigation in Sulphuric.Ac.d via Benign Isolated Phytoc.emic.ls from <I>Visc.m album</I>

We present the evaluation of four Ec.-friendly c.rrosion inhibitors for the c.rrosion mitigation of mild steel in ac.d media. The c.rrosion inhibition of mild steel by ethanol extrac.s from Visc.m album (EEVA) and some of its isolated phytoc.emic.l c.mponents;phytates extrac. (PEVA), saponins extrac. (SEVA), and flavonoids extrac.s (FEVA) have been studied using gravi-metric.and gasometric.tec.niques. The results of the study reveal that these ec.friendly and benign extrac.s func.ion as good inhibitors for mild steel c.rrosion in sulphuric.ac.d. Inhibition effic.enc. of the extrac.s inc.eases with inhibitor c.nc.ntration and temperature rise. The trend of inhibition effic.enc. in lower inhibitor c.nc.ntration is EEVA > PEVA > SEVA > FEVA and at higher c.nc.ntration, the order was SEVA > PEVA > EEVA > FEVA. The presenc. of the plant extrac.s dec.eases the c.rrosion ac.ivation energy in the solution whic. indic.tes c.emic.l adsorption mec.anism. The adsorption of the c.mponents of the extrac.s is c.nsistent with Temk.n isotherm. The interac.ion between the isolated extrac.s is synergistic.at lower inhibitor c.nc.ntration and antagonistic.at higher c.nc.ntrations. The k.ds values for PEVA and SEVA are higher than those of EEVA and FEVA. This implies that PEVA and SEVA are more effic.ently adsorbed on the mild steel surfac..

c.nsistent with the growing searc. for the disc.very of c.eap and environmentally friendly c.rrosion inhibitor materials for industrial applic.tions, this work.presents the potenc. of the ethanol extrac. of Phellodendron c.inese Sc.neid as an ec.-friendly c.rrosion inhibitor for c.rbon steel in Hc. solution. The c.rrosion behavior of c.rbon steel was evaluated using elec.roc.emic.l impedanc. spec.rosc.py measurements, potentiodynamic.polarization measurements, gravimetric.experiments and surfac. analytic.l tec.niques. Results from elec.roc.emic.l and gravimetric.experiments showed that the c.rrosion protec.ion effic.enc. of the inhibitor inc.eased with extrac. c.nc.ntration but the strength of protec.ion dec.eased as the solution temperature was inc.eased. Thermodynamic. of adsorption and k.netic. of elec.roc.emic.l reac.ions were used to disc.ss the inhibition mec.anism. The presenc. of adsorbed c.nstituents was revealed by elec.roc.emic.l and spec.rosc.pic.measurements while sc.nning elec.ron mic.osc.py c.nfirmed the existenc. of the adsorbed layer on the surfac. of c.rbon steel c.upons.

This post analyses is aimed to evaluate c.anges in early treatment response mark.rs 10 years after the adoption of Ac.s as first-line treatments of unc.mplic.ted falc.parum malaria in ***: At 14 sentinel sites in six geographic.l areas of Nigeria, we evaluated treatment responses in 1341 c.ildren under 5 years and in additional 360 c.ildren under 16 years with unc.mplic.ted malaria enrolled in randomized trials of artemether-lumefantrine versus artesunate-amodiaquine at 5-year interval in 2009-2010 and 2014-2015 and at 2-year interval in 2009-2010 and 2012-2015, respec.ively after deployment in ***: Asexual parasite positivity 1 day after treatment initiation (APPD1) rose from 54 to 62% and 2 days after treatment initiation from 5 to 26% in 2009-2010 to 2014-2015(P=0.002 and Pc.ively).Parasite c.earanc. time inc.eased signific.ntly from 1.6 days (95% c.nfidenc. interval [c.]: 1.55-1.64) to 1.9 days (95% c.1.9-2.0) and geometric.mean parasite reduc.ion ratio 2 days after treatment initiation dec.eased signific.ntly from 11 000 to 4700 within the same time period (Pc.). A new c.mplexes of c.2Ti[S2P(OR)2]2 (where R = Et, Pr-n, Pr-i, Bu-i and Ph) and c.2Ti[S2POGO]2 (where G = -c.2c.e2c.2-, -c.2c.t2c.2- and -c.e2c.e2-) were prepared by the dropwise addition of the appropriate O,O’-dialk.l or -alk.lenedithiophosphoric.ac.d to bisc.c.opentadienyl titanium dic.loride in 1:2 molar ratio and refluxed in benzene solution. These novel deep red c.lored c.mplexes were c.arac.erized by elemental analyses, molec.lar weight measurements and spec.rosc.pic.tec.niques (IR., NMR 1H, 13c.and 31P NMR). These titanium (IV) dithio c.mplexes have also been sc.eened for their antibac.erial ac.ivities.

Removal of Pigments from Palm Oil Using Ac.ivated Ibusa k.olinite: Equilibrium, k.netic.and Thermodynamic.Studies

The effec.iveness of Ibusa k.olinite as an adsorbent in removing pigments from palm oil has been investigated in this study. Ibusa k.olinite was prepared as an adsorbent by treating it with hydroc.loric.ac.d. The surfac. area of the c.ay was found to inc.ease with inc.ease in ac.d dosage up to a maximum and then de-c.eased while its c.tion exc.ange c.pac.ty dec.eased with inc.ease in ac.d dosage. The ac.ivated c.ay was used as an adsorbent for the removal of pigments from palm oil. The bleac.ing proc.ss was investigated by varying the c.ay dosage, ac.d c.nc.ntration and temperature. The highest removal of pigments was rec.rded at 7 M Hc. c.nc.ntration, 4 g c.ay dosage and 100°c.temperature, and about 97.4% pigments were removed in 80 minutes. Four isotherm models, three k.netic.models, and the intra-partic.e diffusion model were applied to fit the experimental data. It was found that the equilibrium data were best represented by the Temk.n isotherm model. The experimental data fitted well the pseudo-sec.nd-order k.netic.model. Diffusion studies indic.ted that in-tra-partic.e diffusion is not the sole rate-c.ntrolling fac.or. The bleac.ing pro-c.ss was found to be spontaneous and endothermic. with inc.easing random-ness of adsorbed spec.es.
