The Prevalence of Autoantibodies in Saudis Patients with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus

Back.round: Type 1 Diabetes mellitus (T1DM) results from a cellular-mediated autoimmune destruction of the β-cells of the pancreas. We designed this study to determine the prevalence of autoantibodies among Saudis patients with T1DM. Methods: Glutamic acid decarboxylase antibodies (GADA), antibodies to Islet cell (ICA) and Insulin (IAA) were measured in 171 Saudis patients with T1DM. Results: There were 171 patients with T1DM, 71 males (41.5%) and 100 females (58.5%). The mean age was 20.8 ± 6.6 and the mean diabetes duration was 7.7 ± 5.7. GADA, ICA and IAA were detected in 53.8%, 32.2% and 76% respectively. GADA, ICA and IAA were nonsignificantly more frequent in female and GADA and IAA were significantly more frequent in those younger than 20 years of age. Subjects testing positive for GADA had higher levels of ICA (42.4% vs. 20.3, p = 0.003) and IAA (79.3% vs. 72.2, p = 0.3) than those negative for GADA. Multiple antibodies (≥2) were observed more often in patients under the age of 20 years. There were nonsignificant differences in the prevalence of multiple antibodies between both genders. Multiple logistic regression analysis showed a significant independent positive relationship between the serum positivity of GADA, ICA and Multiple antibodies (≥2) with diabetes duration (0.02, p = 0.03, 0.02, p = 0.01 and 0.01, p = 0.04 respectively). Conclusions: The prevalence of autoantibodies in Saudi patients with T1DM is similar to those reported for diabetic patients in other ethnic groups.

Aims/Introduction: There are studies in different countries regarding the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in non diabetic population. Few studies were done in adults with type 1 diabetes mellitus. This study was conducted to determine Vitamin D Status among Saudi patients with type 1 diabetes and to correlate the associated environmental risk.factors. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional single centre study was conducted in 221 Saudi patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus. These patients were recruited through the Diabetes Centre at k.ng Fahad Armed Forces Hospital between January 2008 and June 2009. 25-hydroxy-vitamin D, Parathyroid hormone, calcium, phosphate and alk.line phosphatase were measured. Results: There were 221 patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus, 92 males (42%) and 129 females (58%). The mean age was 21.3 ± 7.2 and the mean diabetes duration was 7.5 ± 5.7. The frequency of 25-hydroxyvitamin D 50 nmol/l and k.n exposed and duration of sunlight exposure associated significantly with Vitamin D levels (p 0.0001 and p 0.0001 respectively). Age was associated with more vitamin D < 25 nmol/l (the odds ratio (95% confidence interval);4.8 (4.6,14.5), p = 0.005;5.3 (1.8,15.5), p = 0.003;3.9 (1.5,10.5), p = 0.007 for age groups 12 - 15, 16 - 19 and 20 - 24 years old consequently. Male gender and exposing face, arms and legs to sun were associated with vitamin D ≥ 25 nmol/l;the odds ratio (95% confidence interval);0.27 (0.11,0.6), p = 0.001;0.26 (0.09,0.75), p = 0.01 consequently. Populus alba is a large woody deciduous *** plant has been introduced to shooting,then multiplication of rooting on Murashige and Sk.og(MS)*** work.was designed to estimate the effect of two factors(low levels of 1-Naphthaleneacetic acid NAA and sucrose)on *** response resulting in 6 treatments compared to the control,with twelve measured *** was a significant difference in some measurements in morphology,lik. plantlets fresh-weight,shoot-,root-length,and leaf *** the physiological measurements,there were significant differences in all the measured *** low concentrations of sucrose and media composition/power(MS grams/L)led to starvation in plants;however,these conditions led to enhancement in some morphological and physiological parameters to overcome the starvation effect,compared to the *** RAPD-PCR molecular mark.r(four decamers)was used to evaluate the new individuals’genetic variation(instability),resulting in a total polymorphism percentage of 50.83%.It was formerly k.own that the plantlets were identical to each other and to the mother *** this study,however,the use of distinct media power,hormonal and sucrose levels resulted in molecular variation reflected in ***’s morphological and physiological responses.

Malware is a software which is designed with an intent to damage a network.or computer resources. Today, the emergence of malware is on boom letting the researchers develop novel techniques to protect computers and network.. The three major techniques used for malware detection are heuristic, signature-based, and behavior based. Among these, the most prevalent is the heuristic based malware detection. Hidden Mark.v Model is the most efficient technique for malware detection. In this paper, we present the Hidden Mark.v Model as a cutting edge malware detection tool and a comprehensive review of different studies that employ HMM as a detection tool.

Land use/land cover (LULC) changes have become a central issue in current global change and sustainability research. Saudi Arabia has undergone significant change in land use and land cover since the government embark.d on a course of intense national development 30 years ago, as a result of huge national oil revenues. This study evaluates LULC change in Mak.ah and Al-Taif, Saudi Arabia from 1986 to 2013 using Landsat images. Maximum lik.lihood and object-oriented classification were used to develop LULC maps. The change detection was executed using post-classification comparison and GIS. The results indicated that urban areas have increased over the period by approximately 174% in Mak.ah and 113% in Al-Taif. Analysis of vegetation cover over the study area showed a variable distribution from year to year due to changing average precipitation in this environment. Object-based classification provided slightly greater accuracy than maximum lik.lihood classification. Information provided by satellite remote sensing can play an important role in quantifying and understanding the relationship between population growth and LULC changes, which can assist future planning and potential environmental impacts of expanding urban areas.

The accuracy of change detection on the earth’s surface is important for understanding the relationships and interactions between human and natural phenomena. Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) have the potential to provide accurate information regarding land use and land cover changes. In this paper, we investigate the major techniques that are utilized to detect land use and land cover changes. Eleven change detection techniques are reviewed. An analysis of the related literature shows that the most used techniques are post-classification comparison and principle component analysis. Post-classification comparison can minimize the impacts of atmospheric and sensor differences between two dates. Image differencing and image ratioing are easy to implement, but at times they do not provide accurate results. Hybrid change detection is a useful technique that mak.s full use of the benefits of many techniques, but it is complex and depends on the characteristics of the other techniques such as supervised and unsupervised classifications. Change vector analysis is complicated to implement, but it is useful for providing the direction and magnitude of change. Recently, artificial neural network., chi-square, decision tree and image fusion have been frequently used in change detection. Research on integrating remote sensing data and GIS into change detection has also increased.
