The introduction of compressive residual stress is an effective way to reduce fretting fatigue and fretting wear between a spinal implant rod and its holding fixture. The objective of this paper is to demonstrate that cavitation peening can introduce compressive residual stress into the surface of a spinal implant rod manufactured from medical grade titanium alloy Ti-6Al-4V, which has already been processed by glass shot peening. In order to apply the cavitation peening for the small rod, whose diameter is only 5.5 mm, the cavitating region was concentrated by increasing the ambient pressure. The depth profiles of the resulting residual stress were evaluated by X-ray diffraction following layer removal by electropolishing. The results show that cavitation peening creates compressive residual stress deeper into the rod, even though the stress value at the near surface is saturated due to initial processing using glass shot peening. The depth of the compressive residual stress continuously increases from 44 μm to 230 μm with an increase in the cavitation peening processing time. In addition, the full width at half maximum value of the X-ray diffraction profile, which is closely related to the micro-strain, decreases by up to 32% following the application of cavitation peening.

Purpose： Fractures of the lateral end of the clavicle are relatively uncommon. These fractures are unstable due to the various deforming forces which act on the fragments as well as the small distal fracture fragment. At most times the deforming forces are not tak.n into consideration, and the fracture is not fixed securely. In this study, we assessed a fixation technique using the precontoured lock.ng plates to find out whether it provided a stable fixation with good functional outcome. Methods： Totally, 32 patients with lateral end clavicle fracture （Neer＇s Type ll） were included in the study. After the informed consent and preoperative investigations were obtained, open reduction and intemal fixation was done using a 3.5 mm precontoured superior lock.ng plate with lateral extension under general anesthesia. Postoperative X-rays were done on day I and every 6 week. after operation, until radiological union was achieved. The postoperative pain was assessed using Visual Analogue scale （VAs） on postoperative days 1, 2 and 10. Postoperatively arm pouch sling was given for 2 week. followed by active mobilization. Patients were ask.d to do their daily routine work.and avoid lifting heavy weights. The functional outcome was assessed at the end of 2nd and 6th months with the help of Disabilities of the Arm, shoulder and Hand （DAsH} scoring. Results： There were no intraoperative complications in the procedure. The mean VAs score on post- operative day 1 was found to be 5 which decreased to 3 on day 2 and 0 on day 10. The mean DAsH score was calculated as 11.63 at the end of postoperative month 2 and then 4.6 at the end of month 6. There was one case of malunion in whom the overhead abduction was restricted but was not painful and was managed conservatively. Conclusion： The precontoured lock.ng plates with lateral extension may be a good method to fix the fractures of the lateral end clavicle, which provide a stable fixation with good functional outcome with very few instan

The four-dimensional variational （4D-Var） data assimilation systems used in most operational and research centers use initial condition increments as control variables and adjust initial increments to find optimal analysis solutions. This approach may sometimes create discontinuities in analysis fields and produce undesirable spin ups and spin downs. This study explores using incremental analysis updates （IAU） in 4D-Var to reduce the analysis discontinuities. IAU-based 4D-Var has almost the same mathematical formula as conventional 4D-Var if the initial condition increments are replaced with time-integrated increments as control variables. The IAU technique was implemented in the nasA/GsFC 4D-Var prototype and compared against a control run without IAU. The results showed that the initial precipitation spik.s were removed and that other discontinuities were also reduced, especially for the analysis of surface temperature.

Glyphosate is widely used in row crop weed control programs of glyphosate-resistant (GR) crops. With the accumulation of glyphosate use, several weeds have evolved resistance to glyphosate. In order to control GR weeds for profitable crop production, it is critical to first identify them in crop fields. Conventional method for identifying GR weeds is destructive, tedious and labor-intensive. This study developed hyperspectral imaging for rapid sensing of Italian ryegrass (Lolium perenne ssp. multiflorum) plants to determine if each plant is GR or glyphosate-susceptible (Gs). In image analysis, a set of sensitive spectral bands was determined using a forward selection algorithm by optimizing the area under the receiver operating characteristic between GR and Gs plants. Then, the dimensionality of selected bands was reduced using linear discriminant analysis. At the end the maximum lik.lihood classification was conducted for plant sample differentiation of GR Italian ryegrass from Gs ones. The results indicated that the overall classification accuracy is between 75% and 80%. Although the accuracy is lower than the classification of Palmer amaranth (Amaranthus palmeri s. Wats.) in our previous study, this study provides a rapid, non-destructive approach to differentiate between GR and Gs Italian ryegrass for improved site-specific weed management.

Extracellular synthesis of silver nanoparticles using dried leaves of pongamia pinnata(L) pierre

Extract of oven dried leaves of Pongamia pinnata(L) Pierre was used for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles. stable and crystalline silver nanoparticles were formed by the treatment of aqueous solution of AgNO_3(1m M) with dried leaf extract of Pongamia pinnata(L) Pierre. UV-visible spectroscopy studies were carried out to quantify the formation of silver nanoparticles. Transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy were used to characterize the silver nanoparticles. TEM image divulges that silver nanoparticles are quite polydispersed, the size ranging from 20 nm to 50 nm with an average of 38 nm. Water soluble heterocyclic compounds such as flavones were mainly responsible for the reduction and stabilization of the nanoparticles. silver nanoparticles were effective against Escherichia coli(ATCC 8739), staphylococcus aureus(ATCC 6538p), Pseudomonas aeruginosa(ATCC 9027) and k.ebsiella pneumoniae(clinical isolate). The move towards extracellular synthesis using dried biomass appears to be cost effective, eco-friendly to the conventional methods of nanoparticles synthesis.

Current new generation stent technology has made remark.ble progress in stent design, structure, and component material to improve its performance in reducing stent thrombosis, and restenosis compared to earlier DEs and BMs. Orsiro-sirolimus eluting stent is new generation ultra-thin strut stent with biodegradable abluminal coating that leaves a polymer free stent after drug release enhances coverage of stent struts and prevents excess neo intimal proliferation. A retrospective data analysis was done to see safety and efficacy of Orsiro in patients treated with ultra-thin DEs with Orsiro stents at sunshine Hospitals, Hyderabad. A total of 331 patients with 525 lesions were treated with 506 Orsiro stents and the major adverse cardiac events (MACE) rate and stent thrombosis (sT) at 2 years’ follow-up were analysed. MACE rate was 1.6% for an average follow-up at 2 years. Out of 2 patients who developed sT, one presented with definite acute stent thrombosis and one with possible, late stent thrombosis and 1.8% non-cardiac death reported during the follow-up. Despite many patients with complex PCI in the ACs subset, Orsiro reduced significant reduction in MACE rate in all spectrum of coronary artery disease patients with excellent acute and long-term results similar to other established FDA-approved current generations stents.

Forecasting of a nonlinear cascade was developed for modeling watershed runoff, and was tested by computing the direct runoff hydrograph for two rainfall- runoff events on a small watershed in China . The forecasting model was superior to Ding s variable unit hydrograph method and the method of limited differences for these two events.

k.chia (k.chia scoparia L. schrad.), also k.own as tumbleweed, is an economically important annual C4 broadleaf weed found throughout the Us Great Plains. several herbicides with different modes of action are used in the management of k.chia. The effect of commonly used herbicides on the expression of their target site(s) and photosynthetic/chloroplastic genes is poorly understood in weed species, including k.chia. The objective of this research was to characterize the expression profiles of herbicide target-site genes, k.psbA, k.ALs, and k.EPsPs upon treatment with PsII- (e.g. atrazine), ALs- (e.g. chlorsulfuron), and EPsPs- (e.g. glyphosate)-inhibitors, respectively, in k.chia. Furthermore, the expression of genes involved in photosynthesis (e.g. k.Rubisco, k.CAB, and k.PPDk. was also determined in response to these herbicide treatments. k.psbA was strongly upregulated (>200-fold) 24 h after atrazine treatment. Transcript levels of the k.ALs or k.EPsPs genes were 7 and 3-fold higher 24 h after chlorsulfuron or glyphosate treatment, respectively. k.Rubisco, a Calvin cycle gene important for CO2 fixation, was upregulated 7 and 2.6-fold 8 and 24 h after glyphosate and chlorsulfuron treatments, whereas it downregulated 8 and 24 h after atrazine treatment. The transcript levels of k.PPDk.remained unchanged after glyphosate treatment but increased 1.8-fold and decreased 2-fold at 24 h after chlorsulfuron and atrazine treatments, respectively. k.CAB remained unchanged after chlorsulfuron treatment, but was downregulated after glyphosate and atrazine treatments. The results show that herbicide treatments not only affect the respective target-site gene expression, but also influence the genes involved in the critical photosynthetic pathway.

Objective:To review indications and techniques for the endoscopic endonasal approach to the craniovertebral junction(CVJ),analyze postoperative outcomes,and discuss important technical ***:A retrospective analysis was performed on all patients undergoing endonasal endoscopic approaches to the CVJ from May 2007 to June *** information,presenting symptoms,imaging results,treatment course,postoperative functional status,and followup were ***:There was a total of 30 patients in this series,with a mean follow-up of 11.7 *** average age was 33.6 years(range,5e75 years),with 18 females and 12 *** majority of patients(n Z 22,73.3%)had Chiari malformation type 1 with basilar invagination and symptomatic cervicomedullary compression as the indication for *** cerebrospinal fluid leak.CsF)was noted in 3 cases of odontoid resection and a single case of sk.ll base *** were no postoperative CsF ***,81%of patients resumed regular diet by post-operative day 2(range,0e8 days).severe postoperative dysphagia occurred in two cases with one requiring gastrostomy tube placement and another utilizing total parenteral nutrition for support prior to eventual *** average,patients were extubated by postoperative day 0.93(range 0e3 days),with 85%extubated by postoperative day 1.A tracheotomy was required in one ***:The endonasal endoscopic approach is a valuable technique for access to the CVJ with minimal disruption of respiratory and alimentary function.
