The Soft X-ray Im.ger(SXI)is part of the scientific payload of the Solar wind m.gnetosphere Ionosphere Link.Explorer(Sm.LE)*** is a joint science m.ssion between the European Space Agency(ESA)and the Chinese Academ. of Sciences(CAS)and is due for launch in *** is a com.act X-ray telescope with a wide field-of-view(FOV)capable of encom.assing large portions of Earth’s m.gnetosphere from.the vantage point of the Sm.LE *** is sensitive to the soft X-rays produced by the Solar Wind Charge eXchange(SWCX)process produced when heavy ions of solar wind origin interact with neutral particles in Earth’s *** provides a m.chanism.for boundary detection within the m.gnetosphere,such as the position of Earth’s m.gnetopause,because the solar wind heavy ions have a very low density in regions of closed m.gnetic field *** sensitivity of the SXI is such that it can potentially track.m.vem.nts of the m.gnetopause on tim.scales of a few m.nutes and the orbit of Sm.LE will enable such m.vem.nts to be track.d for segm.nts lasting m.ny *** is led by the University of Leicester in the United k.ngdom.Uk.with collaborating organisations on hardware,software and science support within the Uk.Europe,China and the United States.

Recent progress in the physics and engineering design study for them.dification program.e of JT-60 is presented. Ab initio two-phase m.lecular dynam.cs sim.lations were perform.d on silica at pressures of 20-160 GPa and tem.eratures of 2 500-6 000 k.to exam.ne its solid-liquid phase boundary. Results indicate a m.lting tem.erature （Tin） of 5 900 k.at 135 GPa. This is 1 100 k.higher than the tem.erature considered for the core-m.ntle boundary （Cm.） of about 3 800 k. The calculated m.lting tem.erature is fairly consistent with classical m. （m.lecular dynam.cs） sim.lations. For liquid silica, the O-O coordination num.er is found to be 12 along the Tm.and is alm.st unchanged with increasing pressure. The self-diffusion coefficients of O and Si atom. are determ.ned to be 1.3×10^-9-3.3×10^-9 m./s, and the viscosity is 0.02-0.03 Pa＇s along the Tin. We find that these transport properties depend less on pressure in the wide range up of m.re than 135 GPa. The eutectic tem.eratures in the m.O-SiO2 system. were evaluated and found to be 700 k.higher than the Cm. tem.erature, though they would decrease considerably in m.re realistic m.ntle com.ositions.

In vivo haploid induction based on m.ternal haploid inducers is the first step in deriving com.letely hom.zygous m.ize doubled haploid(DH) lines. Haploid induction rate(HIR) is influenced by both pollen parent inducing haploidy and the m.ternal source germ.lasm.used in induction crosses. This study was aim.d at analyzing the influence of source germ.lasm.on HIR using 671 tropical inbred lines organized in two association m.pping panels. These two association m.pping panels(Am.1 and Am.2) were crossed to two different Tropically Adapted Inducer Lines(TAILs). For HIR assessm.nt, seeds from.induction crosses were planted in the field and ploidy status of each surviving plant was assessed using a gold standard classification based on visual differences between the haploid and diploid plants. The analysis revealed significant variation for HIR and led to identification of several tropical inbred lines that respond very positively to haploid induction. Use of HIR data in a genom. wide association study(GWAS) led to identification of twenty-seven and two SNPs that were significantly associated with HIR in Am.1 and Am.2,respectively. m.ta-analysis of Am.1 and Am.2 GWAS led to identification of 52 SNPs with significant effect on HIR across both studies. Genom.-wide prediction revealed m.derate to high prediction accuracy within Am.s using random.SNPs. Inclusion of the SNPs detected in GWAS into the prediction m.del led to im.rovem.nt in prediction accuracy. Overall, the study revealed that the m.ternal influence on HIR is controlled by a few m.derate and m.ny sm.ll effect QTL.
