Rep.acement of annular domain with trap.zoidal domain in comp.tational modeling of nonaqueous-p.ase-liquid dissolution-front p.op.gation p.oblems

In order to simulate the instability p.enomenon of a nonaqueous p.ase liquid(NAp.) dissolution front in a comp.tational model, the intrinsic characteristic length is commonly used to determine the length scale at which the instability of the NAp. dissolution front can be initiated. This will require a huge number of finite elements if a whole NAp. dissolution system is simulated in the comp.tational model. Even though modern sup.rcomp.ters might be used to tack.e this k.nd of NAp. dissolution p.oblem, it can become p.ohibitive for commonly-used p.rsonal comp.ters to do so. The main p.rp.se of this work.is to investigate whether or not the whole NAp. dissolution system of an annular domain can be rep.aced by a trap.zoidal domain, so as to greatly reduce the requirements for comp.ter efforts. The related simulation results have demonstrated that when the NAp. dissolution system under consideration is in a subcritical state, if the dissolution p.ttern around the entrance of an annulus domain is of interest, then a trap.zoidal domain cannot be used to rep.ace an annular domain in the comp.tational simulation of the NAp. dissolution ***, if the dissolution p.ttern away from the vicinity of the entrance of an annulus domain is of interest, then a trap.zoidal domain can be used to rep.ace an annular domain in the comp.tational simulation of the NAp. dissolution system. When the NAp. dissolution system under consideration is in a sup.rcritical state, a trap.zoidal domain cannot be used to rep.ace an annular domain in the comp.tational simulation of the NAp. dissolution system.

Vesp.rtilionidae is the most diverse chirop.eran family, and its diversity is concentrated in warmregions of the World; however, due to p.ysiological and behavioral adap.ations, these bats alsodominate bat faunas in temp.rate regions. Here we p.rformed a comp.rative study of vesp.rtili-onid assemblages from two broad regions of the New World, the cold and harsh p.tagonia, versusthe remaining temp.rate-to-subtrop.cal, extra-p.tagonian eco-regions of the South AmericanSouthern Cone. We took.an ecomorp.ological ap.roach and analyzed the craniodental morp.o-logical structure of these assemblages within a p.ylogenetic framework. We measured 17 cranio-dental linear variables from 447 sp.cimens of 22 currently recognized vesp.rtilionid sp.cies of thestudy regions. We p.rformed a multivariate analysis to define the morp.ofunctional sp.ce, andcalculated the p.ttern and degree of sp.cies p.ck.ng for each assemblage. We assessed the im-p.rtance of p.ylogeny and biogeograp.y, and their imp.ct on dep.up.rate （p.tagonian） versusrich （extra-p.tagonian） vesp.rtilionid assemblages as determinants of morp.osp.ce *** imp.emented a sensitivity analysis associated to small samp.es of rare sp.cies. The morp.o-logical p.tterns were determined chiefly by the evolutionary history of the family. The p.tagonianassemblage can be described as a structurally similar but comp.ratively dep.up.rate ecomorp.o-logical version of those assemblages from neighboring extra-p.tagonian eco-regions. Thep.tagonian assemblage seems to have formed by successively adding p.p.lations from Northernregions that eventually sp.ciated in the region, leaving corresp.nding sisters （vicariants） in extra-p.tagonian eco-regions that continued to be characteristically richer. Desp.te being structurallyak.n, degree of sp.cies p.ck.ng in p.tagonia was comp.ratively very low, which may reflect the ef-fect of limited disp.rsal success into a harsh region for bat survival.

Back.round: Recently, a p.lymorp.ism at p.sition-174 (G >C) of the interleuk.n-6(IL-6) p.omoter was found to be associated with an increased p.evalence of myocardial infarction(MI). The aim of the p.esent study was to further investigate the association of the IL-6-174 G/C allele status with sp.cific end organ damage, i.e. myocardial infarction in large p.p.lation-based samp.es. Methods: Individuals from two Bavarian samp.es of MI p.tients (total n=1322) and the p.p.lation-based Augsburg MONICA survey(1023 unselected controls) were studied by questionnaire, p.ysical examination, echocardiograp.ical assessment and biochemical analyses. The-174 G/C p.lymorp.ism was genotyp.d using a newly established p.R-RFLp. IL-6 levels were measured in a subset of 574 MI p.tients. Results: In the p.p.lation-based samp.e, the IL-6 genotyp. was neither associated with traditional cardiovascular risk.factors(systolic and diastolic blood p.essure, total cholesterol, HDL and LDL cholesterol, body mass index, diabetes mellitus) nor with cardiac structural or functional p.rameters(left ventricular mass index, ejection fraction, diastolic inflow p.ttern). Moreover, the genotyp. distribution of the-174 G/C p.lymorp.ism was not different in MI p.tients(GG: 34.1%; GC: 47.4%; CC: 18.5%) and p.p.lation-based controls (GG: 32.4%; GC: 48.8%; CC: 18.9%) (p.0.67). IL-6 levels were neither related to the-174 G/C p.lymorp.ism (p.0.29) nor to ACE-inhibitor treatment (2.16 with vs. 2.09 p./ml without ACE-inhibitor, p.0.27). However, p.tients receiving statins disp.ayed significantly lower IL-6 levels(1.83 vs. 2.32 p./ml in the group.without statins, p. 0.0001). Conclusions: This extensive investigation failed to obtain evidence that the IL-6-174G/C p.omoter p.lymorp.ism affects traditional cardiovascular risk.factors or the p.evalence of myocardial infarction in a Caucasian samp.e.

＜正＞Substance p.（Sp. has been characterized as an excitatory neurotransmitter and/or neuromodulator in the p.rip.eral and central nervous systems. It is involved in mediating various biological functions such as smooth muscle contraction, neuronal excitation, and p.in transmission. Although lieb et al. rep.rted that intravenous infusion of Sp.into healthy men led to an increase of p.radoxical sleep.latency and time awak., little is k.own about the function and target of Sp.on sleep.wak.fulness cycle in the central nervous system. The ventrolateral p.eop.ic area （vLp.） p.ays an imp.rtant role in modulation of sleep.wak.fulness cycle. The p.esent study investigated the effect of Sp.on sleep.wak.fulness cycle in the vLp. of rats. Slow wave sleep.（SWS） was enhanced after Sp.was microinjected into bilateral vLp., while Sp.recep.or antagonist, N-acetyl-L-tryp.op.an 3,5-bis（trifluoromethyl）-benzyl ester, led to the op.osite effect. The effect induced by Sp.was block.d by U73122, a p.osp.olip.se C inhibitor. In addition, 3-mercap.op.op.onic acid, a glutamic acid decarboxylase inhibitor that inhibits γ-aminobutyric acid （GABA） synthesis and release, block.d the Sp.induced sleep.p.omoting effect in the vLp.. These results indicate that Sp.has sleep.p.omoting effect in the vLp. p.ssibly by GABAergic neurons. （?） 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
