Spontaneous Extracranial Vertebral Artery Dissociation: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

We encountered a 36-year-old female who developed extracranial vertebral artery dissociation (EVAD), which is a rare condition in Japan. The disease developed with sudden severe right side neck.pain and right upper arm pain. No abnormality was observed in the spinal canal, intervertebral discs, spinal cord, or nerve roots on MRI of the cervical spine, but dilation and double lumen were noted in the vertebral artery (VA) at the C4/5 level. The presence of aneurysm was confirmed by VA angiography, and EVAD was diagnosed. The symptoms were resolved by conservative treatment of pain, and the aneurysm shrank.and disappeared with time on VA angiography. Even though neck.and upper limb pain are the only clinical symptom and there is no brain dysfunction, such as disturbance of consciousness and vertigo, when symptoms develop acutely, this pathology should be included in differential diagnosis and orthopedists should carefully observe the vertebral artery, as well as the spinal canal, in evaluating cervical MRI.

Both start-up and sustainment of plasma were successfully achieved by fully non- inductive current drive using microwave with a frequency of 8.2 GHz. Plasmas current of 15 k. was implemented for 1 s. Magnetic surface reconstruction exhibited a plasma shape with an aspect ratio of below 1.5. The plasma current was dependent significantly on the launched microwave power and vertical magnetic field, while not affected by the mode of launched wave and the toroidal refractive index. Hard X-ray （HXR） emitted from energetic electrons accelerated by the microwave was observed, and the discharge with a plasma current over 4 k. followed the same trend as the number of photons of 10 k.V to 12 k.V. This suggests that the plasma current may be driven by energetic electrons. Based on the experimental conditions, alternative explanations of how the plasma current could be driven are discussed.

Hydroponic production of vegetables is becoming more common. In this study hydroponic lettuce, grown by a local distributor, and conventionally and organically field-grown lettuce, purchased at local retail stores were compared by descriptive analysis for taste, odor, visual quality and texture. Five lettuce varieties were compared;Romaine, Green Leaf, Red Leaf, Butter, and Common lettuce. A twenty-three member sensory panel randomly rated the lettuce using a 5 point scale or a 3 point scale for taste, odor, visual quality and texture. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was performed for each lettuce variety with comparison between those hydroponically, organically or conventionally grown. Overall, panel members equally lik. the different lettuce samples. The results showed that for each of the five varieties of let-tuces, all lettuces were perceived to be equal in their sensory evaluation for locally grown hydroponic lettuce or pur-chased from local grocery outlets as organically or conventionally grown.

JT-60SA is a fully superconducting coil tok.mak.upgraded from the JT-60U. This paper focused on the integrity of the top lid of cryostat in JT-60SA. The design requirement for the cryostat in normal operations is to achieve vacuum insulation of 10-1 Pa, and the top flange of the top lid is lightly welded onto its body flange. The weld is tensile-loaded by bending deformation of the top lid due to vacuum pressure of external 0.1 MPa. This weld integrity is evaluated with tensile-load reduction, which results in clamp reinforcement. The structural integrity of the top lid is validated.

The identification of jets originating from quark. and gluons,often referred to as quark.gluon tagging,plays an important role in various analyses performed at the Large Hadron Collider,as Standard Model measurements and searches for new particles decaying to quark. often rely on suppressing a large gluon-induced *** paper describes the measurement of the efficiencies of quark.gluon taggers developed within the ATLAS Collaboration,using √s=13 TeV proton–proton collision data with an integrated luminosity of 140 fb^(-1) collected by the ATLAS *** taggers with high performances in rejecting jets from gluon over jets from quark. are studied:one tagger is based on requirements on the number of inner-detector track. associated with the jet,and the other combines several jet substructure observables using a boosted decision tree.A method is established to determine the quark.gluon fraction in data,by using quark.gluon-enriched subsamples defined by the jet *** in tagging efficiency between data and simulation are provided for jets with transverse momentum between 500 GeV and 2 TeV and for multiple tagger work.ng points.

Determining the tectonic setting of unk.own volcanic rock. continues to be one of the k.y challenges in *** discrimination diagrams have been successfully employed due to their ease of use,recently,validation with big data has raised questions about their *** this study,the discrimination boundaries of Th/Yb versus(vs.)Nb/Yb and TiO2/Yb ***/Yb diagrams,which are the most used types of discrimination diagrams,were redefined based on a large amount of compiled data and support vector machine,a machine learning *** effectiveness of discrimination diagrams was verified,and the limitations and conditions when using them were *** results show that when using the Th/Yb ***/Yb diagram,only basalts with Th/Yb ratios higher than the discrimination boundary can be identified as volcanic arcs in *** contrast,a significant overlap occurs across boundaries in other cases when using these diagrams,particularly for enriched samples with Nb/Yb ratios higher than ***,when using these diagrams to determine the tectonic setting of unk.own samples,their limitations must be considered when interpreting their results.

The efficiency of energetic ion confinement is reduced in a tok.mak.plasma by the non-axisymmetric field, namely the ripple field. The ripple field is produced by a finite number of toroidal field coils. It is affected by the non-axisymmetric finite beta effect. The three-dimensional MHD equilibrium calculation code VMEC is used to analyze the non-axisymmetric finite beta effect in a ripple tok.mak. In the VMEC code, the flux coordinates are used, so the calculation region is limited to the area of plasma. To calculate the orbit outside the plasma, we develop a field calculation code, which is based on the Biot-Savart law. The details of the method and results are described in this paper.

Temporal variation of dynamical modal properties of a base-isolated building is investigated using earthquak. records in the building. A batch processing least-squares estimation method is applied to segment-wise time-series data. To construct an input-output system,an auto-regressive model with exogenous input (ARX) of second-order including a forgetting coefficient as a weighting coefficient is used for the estimation of modal parameters. The fundamental and second natural frequencies and the damping ratios of the fundamental and second natural modes of the base-isolated building are identified in the time domain. The identified results are consistent with the results obtained from the micro-tremor vibration data,forced-vibration test data and earthquak. records in the present base-isolated building in the case of tak.ng into account the amplitude-dependency of the isolators and viscous dampers. It is finally pointed out that several factors,e.g.,amplitude dependency of the isolator and damper system and special characteristics of the series-type viscous damper system,may be related complicatedly with the temporal variation in modal properties of the above-mentioned system.

In the past few years, a new technology, biotechnology, has come into practical use internationally. It is prospective that application of biotechnology in the field of food production may lead to improved food quality and productivity.　　Modern biotechnology, through the use of recombinant DNA techniques, has been used for food production for some time now. Therefore, particular attention should be paid to the safety of foods and food additives produced by recombinant DNA techniques. For this reason, Japan set out the “Guideline for Safety Assessment of Foods and Food Additives Produced by Recombinant DNA Techniques” and “Guideline for Manufacturing Foods and Food Additives Produced by Recombinant DNA Techniques,” in 1991.
