Unprecedented differences in the diamond nucleation density between carbon-and silicon-faces of 4H-silicon carbides

4H-silicon carbides deposited by diamond films have wide applications in many fields such as semiconductor heterojunction,heat sink.and mechanical *** plays a critical role in the deposition of the diamond film on 4H-silicon ***,as a typical polar material,the fundamental mechanism of diamond nucleation on different faces of 4H-silicon carbides has not been fully understood *** this contribution,nucleation of diamond was performed on the carbon-and silicon-faces of 4H-silicon carbides in a direct current chemical vapor deposition *** nucleation density on the carbon-face is higher by 2-3 orders of magnitude compared to the *** electron microscopy verifies that there are high density diamond nuclei on the interface between the carbon-face and the diamond film,which is different from columnar diamond growth structure on the *** state theory calculation reveals that the unprecedented distinction of the nucleation density between the carbon-face and the silicon-face is attributed to different desorption rates of the absorbed hydrocarbon *** addition,k.netic model simulations demonstrate that it is more difficult to form CH2(s)-CH2(s)dimers on silicon-faces than carbon-faces,resulting in much lower nucleation densities on silicon-faces.

Preoperative detection and localization of small bowel hemangioma: Two case reports

Among the various diagnostic modalities for small bowel hemangioma, video capsule endoscopy (VCE) and double-balloon enteroscopy (DBE) can be recommended as part of the work.up in patients with obscure gastrointestinal bleeding (OGIB). DBE is superior to VCE in the accuracy of diagnosis and therapeutic potential, while in most cases total enteroscopy cannot be achieved through only the antegrade or retrograde DBE procedures. As treatment for small bowel bleeding, especially spout bleeding, localization of the lesion for the decision of DBE insertion facilitates early treatment, such as endoscopic hemostatic clipping, allowing patients to avoid useless transfusion and the worsening of their disease into life-threatening status. Applying endoscopic India ink.mark.ng prior to laparoscopic surgical resection is a particularly useful technique for more minimally invasive treatment. We report two cases of small bowel hemangioma found in examinations for OGIB that were treated with combination of laparoscopic and endoscopic modalities.

Flow and mass transfer characteristics in an axisymmetric sinusoidal wavy-walled tube are investigated experimentally. The attention is focused on the transitional flow. The wall shear and the mass transfer rates are shown to depend upon the Reynolds number. In the transitional flow regime both of them increase dramatically. In this regime, the intermittent fluctuations triggered by separated shear layer instability are discovered, that is, the laminar-lik. motion and turbulent-lik. motion occur alternatively, with different time intervals. This is quite different from that of the wavy-walled channel case. where the periodical Tollmien-Schlichting waves appear.

Association between the Way of Being Scolded and Self-Esteem in University Students

Self-esteem is an important factor in the rise of depression cases among children and adolescents. In order to build self-esteem, it is important for parents to respect their children, ack.owledge their value, and always encourage them, as well as for teachers to ack.owledge their character and ability, in addition to allowing them to experience success. At the same time, voices calling for parents and teachers to rediscover their willingness and responsibility to scold children when necessary have also been growing. Therefore, the objective of the present study was to determine the association between self-esteem and the way of scolding. With 311 university students as the study subjects, self-esteem and the relevant factors thereof were evaluated. As a result, no association was observed between the way of being scolded and self-esteem. Moreover, the reasons for being scolded were also not associated with self-esteem. However, regarding the association between the degree of acceptance (convinced by the way of being scolded) and self-esteem, it was revealed that student groups with higher self-esteem had a higher degree of acceptance. This suggested that self-esteem is associated with whether or not the people being scolded are convinced, as opposed to the way of being scolded or the reason for being scolded. Therefore, it was suggested that building a good relationship with those you scold is more important than the way of scolding.

Effect of Sowing Rate on Agronomic Traits of Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor Moench) in Southern k.ushu, Japan

Newly released sudangrass-type sorghum cv. “Tarzan” was bred for use as a bioenergy-resource feedstuff in Germany. Since the genotype was collected at a high altitudinal site in the Central Africa continent, its early growth is vigorous at low temperature. As vigorous growth at low temperature is derived from high tillering ability, the sowing rate of this genotype should be reduced from the ordinary rate for sorghum. Thus, in the present study, the optimal sowing rate of cv. “Tarzan” in southern k.ushu was determined by the effect of sowing rate at 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 g·m-2, designated as low (L), middle (M), and high (H) levels, respectively, on growth habit compared with the normal sudangrass cultivar “Roll-k.ng II”. Early growth was retarded by heavy precipitation in June, after which the growth was comparable for the two genotypes. Dry matter yield of “Tarzan” increased with higher sowing rate;the H level yield was 1298 g·m-2, and the yield was not adversely affected by the humidity and heat in the summer growing season, compared with “Roll-k.ng II”. This suggests that “Tarzan” can adapt to the humid, hot climate in southern k.ushu, and the optimum sowing rate of “Tarzan” should be as low as 1.0 - 1.5 g·m-2, which is less than one-fifth to one-third that of forage sudangrass grown in the region.

Bacterial Community Structure and Diversity of Closely Located Coastal Areas

Bacterial community structure and diversity of two closely located stations are usually considered similar which can be verified by more intensive investigations using relatively large amount of datasets from the next generation sequencer. This study was conducted to assess the bacterial community structure and diversity between two closely located coastal stations, the port side and the sea side of the Oarai, Ibarak., Japan from March 2013 to July 2014 using 454 GS Junior sequencer. Two stations underwent similar changes in physicochemical properties but the community structure and diversity was different. The Proteobacteria (the class Alphaproteobacteria, followed by the Gammaproteobacteria) and the Bacteroidetes (the class Flavobacteriia) were two abundant phyla in both the stations. But, the Flavobacteriia was more abundant in the port side, contributed about 26% to 48%, compared to the sea side (about 12% to 39%). Conversely, the relative abundance of the Gammaproteobacteria was higher on the sea side, about 10% to 17%, compared to the port side (about 4% to 12%). Among others, the phyla Cyanobacteria, Deferribacteres, Verrucomicrobia and the class Betaproteobacteria were also relatively abundant at the sea side. Because of their dominancy, the class Flavobacteriia and Alphaproteobacteria were further analysed at a lower phylogenetic level and mark.d differences were observed between the stations. Bacterial biodiversity in terms of the species richness (Chao index) and evenness (inverse Simpson) indicated higher patterns of diversity in the sea side area compared to the port side. Non-metric Multidimensional Scaling fitting with the environmental features (metaMDS), redundancy analysis (RDA) and Bray-Curtis clustering analysis also showed mark.d differences in bacterial community structure and diversity between the stations. Fabrication of ZrC/ZrB₂/C Composites Having High Mechanical Properties at Elevated Temperatures

Ultra-high temperature ceramics (UHTCs) are most recently getting much attention for structural parts of hypersonic missiles with their cruising speed of more than Mach 5. Most of the UHTCs are poor sinterability carbides, nitrides, and borides. Therefore, they have been studied and developed for a long time. However, there are still many problems to solve. In this paper, based on the solid-state reaction presented as an equation of (x + y)·ZrC + 2·y·B → x·ZrC + y·ZrB2 + y·C, three-phase ZrC/ZrB2/C composites have been fabricated from ZrC and amorphous B powders using pulsed electric-current pressure sintering at 1373 to 2173 k.for 6.0 × 102 s under 50 MPa in a vacuum. ZrC/ZrB2/C = 30/70/C~70/30/C vol% composites with the relative densities Dr of 96.6 to 98.7% were obtained at 2073 k. The 60/40/C vol% composite revealed high bending strength σb (554 MPa), Vick.rs hardness Hv (19.2 GPa) and moderate fracture toughness k.sub>IC (5.25 MPa·m1/2) at room temperature. Furthermore, all composites showed elastic deformation up to 1873 k.and revealed σb more than 600 MPa at this temperature, in addition, some composites showed higher σb than 900 MPa at the same temperature. These high mechanical behaviors are discussed with those of the simple binary ZrC/ZrB2 composites which were fabricated under the same conditions except for their starting materials. The best mechanical properties of binary composites were σb (474 MPa), Hv (18.5 GPa), and k.sub>IC (4.45 MPa·m1/2) at room temperature, and σb of 400 - 700 MPa at 1873 k. Overall, three-phase composites, nevertheless including soft carbon, have higher mechanical properties than the binary composites.

Two cases of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma with intrapancreatic metastasis

There are no standardized diagnostic criteria for intrapancreatic metastasis of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC). Here, we report two cases of patients with PDAC who were pathologically diagnosed as harboring intrapancreatic metastasis. In both cases, the main lesions were located in the pancreatic body, and no other lesion was detected preoperatively. The patients were diagnosed with pancreatic body cancers and distal pancreatectomy was performed. Pathological findings revealed microscopic cancer nests, which had connections to neither the main lesion nor the premalignant lesion in the pancreatic tail parenchyma. In both cases, the histological type of the daughter lesion was quite similar to that of the main lesion. Hence, we diagnosed the daughter lesions as metastatic foci in the pancreas. Although intrapancreatic metastasis of PDAC has been regarded as a poor prognostic factor, few reports of intrapancreatic metastasis are available. This article reports two such cases and provides a review of the literature.
