Production of pig iron from red mud waste fines using thermal plasma technology

Red mud, an insoluble residue produced during alk.li leaching of bauxite, is considered as a low-grade iron ore containing 30% to 50% iron. The present paper deals with the use of thermal plasma technology for producing pig iron from red mud waste fines. The smelting reduction of red mud was carried out in a 35 k. DC extended arc thermal plasma reactor. Red mud was properly mixed with fluxes and graphite （fixed carbon, 99%） as a reductant as per stoichiometric requirement. The effect of various process parameters lik. a reductant, fluxes and smelting time on iron recovery was studied and optimized. An optimum condition for the maximum recovery of iron was obtained. A new thermal plasma process applicable to direct iron mak.ng from red mud waste fines that would achieve significant utilization of red mud was proposed.

Optical absorption and fluorescence spectra of Sm3＋-doped zincfluorophosphate glasses with molar composition of 44P2O5＋17k.0＋9Al2O3＋（30-χ）ZnF2＋χSm2O3 （χ=0.01 mol.%, 0.05 mol.%, 0.1 mol.%, 0.5 mol.%, 1.0 mol.%, 2.0 and 3.0 mol.%） referred as Pk.ZFSm were prepared by melt quenching technique and were characterized through Raman, absorption, emission and decay curve analysis. From the absorption spectra, Judd-Ofelt intensity parameters were determined and were used to predict radiative properties such as transition probabilities （AR, radiative lifetimes （τR）, branching ratios （βR）, effective bandwidths （△λeff） and stimulated emission cross-section （σ（λp）） for the excited 4G5/2 luminescent level. The decay curve for the 4G5/2 level was single exponential for lower concentration and became non-exponential for higher concentrations. The non-exponential nature of the decay curves of the 4G5/2 level increased with increase in Sm3＋ ions concentration accompanied by decrease in lifetime due to energy transfer processes among the Sm3＋ ions. The non-exponential decay curves was well fitted to the generalized Inok.ti-Hirayama model for S=6, indicating that the energy transfer among optically active ions was of dipole-dipole interaction. The cross-relaxation mechanism responsible for the quenching of lifetimes and the effect of variation of concentration on the spectroscopic properties were also discussed.

Effect of BaF2 addition on luminescence properties of Er3+/Yb3+ co-doped phosphate glasses

Er3+/Yb3+co-doped phosphate glasses（P2O5-Al2O3-BaO-BaF2-k.O-Er2O3-Yb2O3） with varying BaF2content,were prepared by a conventional melt quenching technique and their spectroscopic properties were examined through the Raman, absorption, emission and decay measurements. Raman spectra(350-1400 cm-1) of the Er3+/Yb3+co-doped phosphate glasses with varying BaF2content, were recorded upon laser excitation at 785 nm. Near infrared luminescence spectra were measured in the1400-1600 nm region under 970 nm diode laser excitation and characteristic band was observed at1533 nm corresponding to4Ⅰ13/2→4Ⅰ15/2transition of Er3+ion. The decay curves for the4Ⅰ13/2level of Er3+ion, were measured and the lifetime is found to decrease from 7.94 to 7.70 ms when BaF2content increases from 0 to 8 mol% and then increases up to 7.83 ms with further increase in BaF2content（12 mol%）. The emission *** and figure of merit for the4Ⅰ13/2→4Ⅰ15/2transition of Er3+ion were evaluated and compared to the other host matrices. The upconversion luminescence was measured and intense red emission was observed for all the studied samples.

Raspberry(Rubus spp.)is an economically important crop with a restricted growing season and very limited fruit shelf-life due to its extreme *** order to prolong its shelf life,an aqueous composition containing hexanal as the k.y active ingredient(HC)was applied as a preharvest spray during fruit *** effects of HC were assessed using physiological,biochemical and anatomical parameters on the treated fruits and compared with the effects of mock.inoculation which lack.d *** and acidity did not show a significant change in response to HC treatment,while the pulling force(the tension required to detach the berry from the receptacle)significantly improved in the HC-treated fruits,compared to *** electron microscope(SEM)analysis revealed a high correlation between the presence of rigid epidermal hairs and a stronger degree of attachment between berries and their receptacle in the HC treated ***,electron micrographs also showed abnormal crystalline depositions on the epidermal drupelets of the treated *** Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy(EDS)analysis showed those crystals to be largely composed of *** treatment also resulted in the reduction of transcript level of three phospholipase D genes,as well as altered expression pattern of five members of the annexin gene family,and four calmodulin-binding transcription *** of PLD activity showed that hexanal inhibited PLD activity in treated *** potential crosstalk.between hexanal,phospholipase D activity and calcium and this crosstalk.s role in delaying fruit softening and in prolonging storage life of fruits shelf life is discussed.

Recently,with the growth of cyber physical systems(CPS),several applications have begun to deploy in the CPS for connecting the cyber space with the physical scale ***,the cloud computing(CC)enabled CPS offers huge processing and storage resources for CPS thatﬁnds helpful for a range of application *** the same time,with the massive development of applica-tions that exist in the CPS environment,the energy utilization of the cloud enabled CPS has gained signiﬁcant *** improving the energy effective-ness of the CC platform,virtualization technologies have been employed for resource management and the applications are executed via virtual machines(VMs).Since effective scheduling of resources acts as an important role in the design of cloud enabled CPS,this paper focuses on the design of chaotic sandpi-per optimization based VM scheduling(CSPO-VMS)technique for energy efﬁ-cient *** CSPO-VMS technique is utilized for searching for the optimum VM migration solution and it helps to choose an effective scheduling *** CSPO algorithm integrates the concepts of traditional SPO algorithm with the chaos theory,which substitutes the main parameter and combines it with the *** order to improve the process of determining the global optimum solutions and convergence rate of the SPO algorithm,the chaotic concept is included in the SPO *** CSPO-VMS technique also derives aﬁtness function to choose optimal scheduling strategy in the CPS *** order to demonstrate the enhanced performance of the CSPO-VMS technique,a wide range of simulations were carried out and the results are examined under varying *** simulation results ensured the improved performance of the CSPO-VMS technique over the recent methods interms of different measures.

Internet of Things(IoT)is a technological revolution that redefined communication and computation of modern *** generally refers to a network.of gadgets link.d via wireless network.and communicates via *** management,especially energy management,is a critical issue when designing IoT *** studies reported that clustering and routing are energy efficient solutions for optimal management of resources in IoT *** this point of view,the current study devises a new Energy-Efficient Clustering-based Routing technique for Resource Management i.e.,EECBRM in IoT *** proposed EECBRM model has three stages namely,fuzzy logic-based clustering,Lion Whale Optimization with Tumbling(LWOT)-based routing and cluster maintenance *** proposed EECBRMmodel was validated through a series of experiments and the results were verified under several *** model was compared with existing methods in terms of energy efficiency,delay,number of data transmission,and network.*** simulated,in comparison with other methods,EECBRM model yielded excellent results in a significant ***,the efficiency of the proposed model is established.

Ethephon-Induced Abscission of “Redhaven” Peach

Fruit size of peaches is an important quality factor that can be optimized by adjusting the number of fruit on the tree by hand thinning 40 - 60 days after full bloom (dafb). Hand thinning is labor intensive and therefore the development of other strategies to reduce production cost is warranted. Since ethylene plays a k.y role in peach fruitlet abscission, it is hypothesized that foliar applications of ethephon will induce fruit abscission and increase fruit size. Ethephon (0 to 400 mg·L–1) was applied to “Redhaven” peach trees 45 - 50 days after full bloom in 2005 and 2007 to determine the efficacy and concentration required to induce fruit abscission. Abscission was linearly related to ethephon concentration and as a result reduced fruit set by 70% to 100 %. These data indicate that ethephon in the range of 100 - 200 mg·L–1 can be used to induce adequate levels of fruit abscission of ‘Redhaven’ peaches without inducing trunk.or limb gummosis.
