Coalbed methane(CBM)explorati.n generally refers to a techni.ue that extracts natural gas from coal *** development of CBM i. Li.li.,Chi.a,has experi.nced a si.ni.i.antly growth peri.d duri.g the past two *** research mai.ly focused on the coal geologi.al back.round or CBM techni.ue i.self,whi.e ti.e seri.s i.SAR(ts-i.SAR)techni.ue was conducted i. thi. work.to study the potenti.l land deformati.n i.duced by CBM extracti.n from 2003 to *** total,21 ALOS-1 PALSAR i.ages(acqui.ed from 22 December 2006 to 2 January 2011)and 14 ENVi.AT ASAR scenes(captured between 29 October 2003 and 7 November 2007)were *** ts-i.SAR outcome revealed that the annual deformati.n rates were rangi.g from 15 to−40 mm yr−1 over the study *** the ti.e seri.s deformati.n evoluti.ns were analysed over 8 CBM si.es(No.4 coal seam)out of 20,and the subsi.ence rates between 1.9 and−6.5 mm yr−1 were *** addi.i.n,the average subsi.ence rate and standard devi.ti.n among these ei.ht measurements were−3.0 and 2.6 mm yr−1 respecti.ely,suggesti.g that these CBM extracti.n si.es were qui.e stable and no obvi.us subsi.ence had been observed duri.g thi. ei.ht-year peri.d.

Bei.i.g Ci.y has suffered from groundwater-i.duced subsi.ence si.ce the late 1930s and the over-explorati.n of groundwater could lead to subsi.ence as much as−12.0 cm yr−*** studi.s on the ground deformati.n at Bei.i.g Ci.y mai.ly focused on the peri.d before the year of 2014 when a mega-engi.eeri.g project was launched to reduce water shortage i. *** study the most recent ground deformati.n,19 L-band ALOS-1 PALSAR i.ages(June 2007–January 2011),24 C-band Senti.el-1 SAR i.ages(June 2015–November 2016)together wi.h 9 ALOS-2 PALSAR acqui.i.i.ns(September 2014–February 2017)were analysed i. thi. *** measurements were exploi.ed to veri.y the ALOS-1-based ti.e seri.s i.SAR(ts-i.SAR)result whi.e Senti.el-1 and ALOS-2 result were cross-veri.i.d wi.h each ***,the whole study area was di.i.ed i.to four sub-zones,and the result i.di.ated that the subsi.ence rates over fi.e townshi.s,Cui.ezhuan,Ji.zhan,Li.uan,Songzhuang and Yanji.o were accelerati.g and more attenti.ns should be *** the contrary,the town centre of Douge Zhuang townshi. experi.nced a decreasi.g trend between these two ***,the ti.e seri.s measurements wi.h respect to fi.e selected measurement poi.ts and the profi.e li.e along the subsi.ence hot spots were analysed.

As a geographi.ally i.tegral part of south Chi.a, the populati.n mi. of Hong k.ng i. largely i.fluenced by i.slocati.n. i. the past150 years, i.s populati.n has i.creased from a fewthousand to 5.7 mi.li.n. Thi. i. the resultof epi.odi. i.fluxes of a great mass of people from Chi.a, often associ.ted wi.h poli.i.al upheavals or economi. cri.si.. i. explai.s a populati.n structure of95% Chi.ese. Thi. structure i. also reflected i. the fi.di.g of geneti. vari.ants i. thi. populati.n, whi.h bears resemblance to nei.hbouri.g regi.ns i. Chi.a. For example, the thalassaemi.sand lactose i.tolerance are common. However, the i.pact of mi.rati.n from other parts of Chi.a cannot be neglec-ted, parti.ulary for the last half century. Thi. i. evi.ent from studi.s of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase(G6PD) vari.nts and other protei. polymorphi.ms. The qui.k.change i. poli.i.al si.uati.n has also promoted morei.flux of people from central and northern part of Chi.a. They bri.g wi.h them a di.ersi.y of geneti. consti.uent,mutati.ns and di.eases. However, as an i.ternati.nal ci.y, Hong k.ng has si.ni.i.anti.putfrommostethni. groupsi. the world. Hence, the remai.i.g 5% of i.s populati.n i. a heterogeneous group of mi.ori.i.s i.cludi.g Europe-ans, i.di.ns, Japanese, and south-east Asi.ns. Although thei. contri.uti.n to the cultural and economi. growth i.Hong k.ng i. phenomenal, thei. i.pact on the geneti. load i. small. However, si.ce thei. geneti. mak.up, andhence di.eases, vary somewhatfromsouthern Chi.ese, they also poses speci.i. needs to the provi.i.n of cli.i.al ge-neti. servi.es.

The lak. appli.ati.n as a water reservoi.-cooler has i.fluenced the average annual water mi.erali.ati.n （from 420 mg/L to 530.0 mg/L wi.h a maxi.um 654 mg/L i. 1993） and fluctuati.ns i. i.s hydrochemi.al composi.i.n.
