b.ck.round: Patients requiring valve replacement at a younger age, for rheumatic heart disease was apparently increasing after the new age practice of contraception. Methods: In 2012, data of patients referred to tertiary care hospital from two cardiology screening camps conducted in the community, were analyzed for the severity of presentation of rheumatic heart disease and associated contraception status b. dividing into the three age groups—20 - 35 years, 36 - 50 years, >51 years;~400 patients attended the camps;31 female and 2 male patients were referred to the tertiary care hospital for further evaluation and categorized treatment, including valve replacement surgeries;among the 33 referred patients, b.longing to the three age groups, the data were analyzed for [if any] correlation of contraception status with severe rheumatic heart disease. 8 randomly chosen males, of the 3 age groups, from a different community, whose life partners had undergone sterilization, were assessed for their serum testosterone levels. Results: Among 20 - 35 years, 7 female patients with contraception required valve replacement surgeries [p 51 years, 3 female and 2 male patients without contraception received medical treatment only

As the topological properties of each spot in DNA microarray images may varyfrom one another, we employed granulometries to understand the shape-size content contrib.ted due toa significant intensity value within a spot. Analysis was performed on the microarray image thatconsisted of 240 spots b. using concepts from mathematical morphology. In order to find out indicesfor each spot and to further classify them, we adopted morphological multiscale openings, whichprovided microarrays at multiple scales. Successive opened microarrays were sub.racted to identifythe protrusions that were smaller than the size of structuring element. Spot-wise details, in termsof prob.b.lity of these ob.erved protrusions, were computed b. placing a regularly spaced grid onmicroarray such that each spot was centered in each grid. b.sed on the prob.b.lity of sizedistrib.tion functions of these protrusions isolated at each level, we estimated the mean size andtexture index for each spot. With these characteristics, we classified the spots in a microarrayimage into b.ight and dull categories through pattern spectrum and shape-size complexity *** segregated spots can b. compared with those of hyb.idization levels.

Ocean colour remote sensing is one of the conventional methods in satellite oceanography used to study the b.ological response of the upper ocean to the tropical cyclones. This paper aims to study the impact of the Very Severe Cyclonic storm PHAILIN, and its consequence on the surface chlorophyll-aconcentration distrib.tion in the b.y of b.ngal using Oceansat-2 Ocean Colour Monitor (OCM). The impact of this cyclone on ocean primary productivity has b.en studied using MODIS-A data. Sea surface temperature (SST) plays an important role in the generation of primary productivity along with the other oceanographic parameters;SST patterns in the b.y of b.ngal during the cyclone period were studied. From the analysis, it is ob.erved that the chlorophyll-aconcentration has increased from 1.08 (b.fore) to 7.06 mg/m3 after the cyclone with an SST drop of ~3°C (29.19°C to 26°C). The primary productivity has increased from 410.0506 to 779.9814 mg/C/m2/day after the cyclone. In addition to the ab.ve analysis, an attempt has also b.en made to study the impact of cyclone intensity on the chlorophyll concentration. The study shows that the comparison b.tween cyclone intensity (CI) and chlorophyll concentration shows a positive relationship.
