Peat swamps at Giral lignite field Western India： understanding the modelling of Barmer basin, Rajasthan, evolution through petrological

The lignite samples collected from Giral lignite field of Barmer basin have been subjected to petrological investigation. The data generated has been discussed to understand the evolution of the paleomires of these lignites. The present study reveals that these low rank.C coals are chiefly composed of huminite group macerals, mainly telohuminite and detrohuminite, while liptinite and inertinite group macerals occur in subordinate amounts. Not much variation in the maceral composition from Seam-I to Seam-VIII has been observed. Barmer lignites are characterized by a very high GI (>10) and moderate TPI indicating topogenous mire in the basin which was permanently flooded. The GI and TPI values and the petrography-based facies critical models indicate that these lignites originated mostly under wet forest swamp to clastic marsh having telmatic to limno-telmatic conditions with a moderate rate of subsidence and a very slow fall in ground water table. Further, the GWI and VI values are suggestive of mesotrophic to rheotrophic hydrological conditions having the dominance of herbaceous to marginal aquatic vegetation. There were spells of periodic drowning of peat especially during the formation of Seam-VII. Moderately high concentration of calcium in these lignites along with the presence of framboidal pyrite indicate enhanced sulphate-reducing bacterial activity present in carbonate and sulphate-rich waters in the basin during peat formation.

The evolutionary development of plant-feeding insects and their nutritional endosymbionts

Herbivorous insects have evolved diverse mechanisms enabling them to feed on plants with suboptimal nutrient availability. Low nutrient availability negatively impacts insect herbivore development and fitness. To overcome this obstacle numerous insect lineages have evolved intimate associations with nutritional endosymbionts. This is especially true for insects that specialize on nitrogen-poor substrates, as these insects are highly dependent on intraceUular symbionts to provide nitrogen lack.ng in their insect host＇s diet. Emerging evidence in these systems suggest that the symbiont＇s and/or the insect＇s biosynthetic pathways are dynamically regulated throughout the insect＇s development to potentially cope with the insect＇s changing nutritional demands. In this review, we evaluate the evolutionary development of symbiotic insect cells （bacteriocytes） by comparing and contrasting genes and mechanisms involved in maintaining and regulating the nutritional symbiosis throughout insect development in a diversity of insect herbivore-endosymbiont associations. With new advances in genome sequencing and functional genomics, we eval- uate to what extent nutritional symbioses are shaped by （i） the regulation of symbiont titer, （ii） the regulation of insect symbiosis genes, and （iii） the regulation of symbiont genes. We discuss how important these mechanisms are for the biosynthesis of essential amino acids and vitamins across insect life stages in divergent insect-symbiont systems. We conclude by suggesting future directions of research to further elucidate the evolutionary development of bacteriocytes and the impact of these nutritional symbioses on insect plant interactions.

A cellular automata traffic flow modeling of desired speed variability

The satisfaction rate of desired velocity in the case of a mixture of fast and slow vehicles is studied by using a cellular automaton method. It is found that at low density the satisfaction rate depends on the maximal velocity. However, the behavior of the satisfaction rate as a function of the coefficient of variance is independent of the maximal velocity. This is in good agreement with empirical results obtained by Lipshtat [Phys. Rev. E 79 066110 （2009）]. Furthermore, our numerical result demonstrates that at low density the satisfaction rate tak.s higher values, whereas the coefficient of variance is close to zero. The coefficient of variance increases with increasing density, while the satisfaction rate decreases to zero. Moreover, we have also shown that, at low density the coefficient variance depends strongly on the probability of overtak.ng.

Variation in phenol, electrical conductivity, and sugar contents in Grewia oppositifolia Roxb.

We estimated variation in the allocation of metabolites （phenol, sugar, and electrical conductance） in seed, fruit and seedling leachates of 25 populations of Grewia. oppositifolia. Higher quantity of phenolics and higher electrical conductance were observed in plants from lower-middle altitudes but this was not correlated significantly with germination, survival, or plant height. On the other hand, sugar content in fruit pulp leachates was greatest in higher elevational populations and these sources also recorded higher germination, survival, and plant height under nursery conditions. Thus we recommend that germplasm （seed） should be collected from moderately higher elevational sources for nursery as well as future breeding strategies of this potential agroforestry tree crop of the central Himalaya.

Settlement modeling in central core rock.ill dams by new approaches

One of the most important reasons for the serious damage of embank.ent dams is their impermissible settlement.Therefore,it can be stated that the prediction of settlement of a dam is of paramount importance.This study aims to apply intelligent methods to predict settlement after constructing central core rock.ill dams.Attempts were made in this research to prepare models for predicting settlement of these dams using the information of 35 different central core rock.ill dams all over the world and Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Interface System(ANFIS) and Gene Expression Programming(GEP) methods.Parameters such as height of dam(H) and compressibility index(Ci) were considered as the input parameters.Finally,a form was designed using visual basic software for predicting dam settlement.With respect to the accuracy of the results obtained from the intelligent methods,they can be recommended for predicting settlement after constructing central core rock.ill dams for the future plans.

Effects of variable fluid properties on the thin film flow of Ostwald-de Waele fluid over a stretching surface

We investigate, in this paper, the effects of thermo-physical properties on the flow and heat transfer in a thin film of a power-law liquid over a horizontal stretching surface in the presence of a viscous dissipation. The fluid properties, namely the fluid viscosity and the fluid thermal conductivity, are assumed to vary with temperature. Using a similarity transformation, the governing partial differential equations with a time dependent boundary are converted into coupled non-linear Ordinary Differential Equations （ODEs） with variable coefficients. Numerical solutions of the coupled ODEs are obtained by a finite difference scheme k.own as the k.ller-box method. Results for the velocity and temperature distributions are presented graphically for different values of the pertinent parameters. The effects of unsteady parameter on the sk.n friction, the wall temperature gradient and the film thick.ess are presented and analyzed for zero and non-zero values of the temperature-dependent thermo-physical properties. The results obtained reveal many interesting features that warrant further study on the non-Newtonian thin film fluid flow phenomena, especially the shear-thinning phenomena.

报道了水介质中金催化肌酸酐与不同靛红之间的醛醇缩合反应.该法无需繁杂的溶剂萃取和柱色谱技术,只需简单的过滤即可将产物分离出来,因而操作简单.通过较宽范围的靛红衍生物的反应,均可高产率并完全地制取相应的顺式醛醇缩合产物,因此该法表现出较高的通用性.还将该合成策略进一步拓展至靛红,肌酸酐和丙二腈的串联反应,可高产率、完全的制取反式多组分产物.采用分光光度法测定了合成产物的抗氧化性能,结果表明,与标准物相比,含有卤素原子的三个化合物(2c,2d和2e)表现出最高的活性.
