<i>Helicobacter pylori</i>Infection (<i>Hp</i>) among Children in the Northern Benin in 2018

Back.round: Hp infection is the most common chronic bacterial infection in developing countries and is contracted especially in childhood where it remains silent. Because of its involvement in the genesis of certain cancers, the WHO has classified Hp in the category of carcinogen class I. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of Hp infection among children from a District in Northern Benin, and to identify the factors associated with it. Patients and methods: This scientific investigation is a cross-sectional, descriptive, and analytical study based on a prospective collection of data carried out from July to September 2018. Recruitment was probabilistic;it was based on the WHO cluster sampling technique implemented among children aged 3 to 10 years without recent history of antibiotic treatment and proton pump inhibitors. Hp infection was diagnosed during the search for bacteria antigen in the feces through a quick.Elisa test which proved positive. Results: We included 250 children in the study. Among them, 151 (60.4%) had Hp infection. 79 (52.3%) out of the 151 infected children were female, i.e. a sex ratio of 0.91. Mean age for those infected children was 6 ± 2.3 years. Among the 151 children infected with Hp, 98 (64.9%) were asymptomatic. Factors associated with that infection were: children’s age > 5 years (p = 0.0461), use of contaminated drink.ng water (p = 0.0001), meals away from home (p = 0.0039), mothers’ low educational status (p = 0.0137) and low monthly income (p = 0.0116) as well as household size > 3 (p = 0.0002). Conclusion: Hp infection is common among children aged 3 to 10 years in Northern Benin. Often asymptomatic, it is facilitated and exacerbated by unsanitary conditions and low socioeconomic status.

Epidemiological, Clinical and Etiological Aspects of Ascites in the Medicine Department at the Departmental University Hospital of Borgou

Goals: The study has been initiated in order to describe the epidemiological, clinical and etiological aspect of the ascites. Patients and methods: This was a retrospective and descriptive study on the patients with an ascite and followed at the medicine department of Borgou departmental teaching hospital. Results: A total of 190 patients have presented an ascite or a hospital prevalence at 3.93%. A male predominance has been observed with a sex-ratio at 1.7. The average age was 39.7 ± 13.9 years. The reason for consultation is dominated by the increase of the abdominal volume (69.5%). The ascite fluid is macroscopically yellow citrine. The cirrhosis (28.5%) and the heart diseases (18.6%) were the most encountered causes of the ascites. Conclusion: The etiologies of ascites are various and dominated by the hepatic cirrhosis and the heart diseases.

Epidemiological, Clinical Aspects and Factors Associated with Typical Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease in the General Population of Parak.u, Republic of Benin

Introduction: Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a benign and chronic disease that can impair the quality of life. Objective: To study the epidemiological, clinical aspects and factors associated with typical GERD in the general population of Parak.u in the Republic of Benin. Methods: This was a descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study with prospective data collection which took.place from May 1, 2019 to June 30, 2019. The study population consisted of any subject aged at least 15 years and living in Parak.u. Subjects aged at least 15 years, present on the day of the survey and having given their free and informed verbal consent were included. The Short form of QRS®(Reflux-Qual Short form) questionnaire and the “Hospital Anxiety and Depression” score were used to assess the quality of life and anxiety/depression, respectively. The sampling was probabilistic through a 2-stage cluster sampling. The variable of interest was the presence of GERD. Results: Out of 390 subjects surveyed, 28 had symptoms of typical GERD, representing a prevalence of 7.18%. The average age of these subjects was 27.11 ± 7.88 years. Fifteen subjects (53.57%) were male, giving a sex ratio of 1.15. Fourteen (50%) had a secondary level of education, 12 (42.86%) were pupils/students, 18 (64.29%) were single. The monthly income of 22 subjects (78.57%) was lower than the guaranteed interprofessional minimum wage (40,000 FCFA). The average duration of progression of symptoms was 15.89 ± 4.97 months. Symptoms occurred less than twice a week.in 22 subjects (78.57%). The clinical manifestations were both diurnal and nocturnal in 12 subjects (42.86%). None of the 28 subjects with GERD had clinical warning signs. Asthma, diabetes, consumption of high fat or spice foods, carbonated drink., non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, alcoholic beverages and tobacco were statistically associated with the occurrence of GERD. Introduction: Viral hepatitis B is a public health problem worldwide. The objective of this study was to determine the epidemiological and diagnostic profile of chronic carriers of hepatitis B virus seen for gastroenterology consultations in Parak.u, Republic of Benin. Patients and Methods: This was a cross-sectional and descriptive study with retrospective data collection. Patients seen for gastroenterology consultations from January 1, 2017 to June 30, 2021 at the Regional Teaching Hospital of Borgou/Alibori (CHUD-B/A) and having been diagnosed as chronic carriers of hepatitis B virus were included. A minimum initial assessment was required to be included. The minimum sample size was calculated with Schwartz formula. The variable of interest was the detection of HBsAg twice and at least 6 months apart. The other variables studied were sociodemographic, clinical and paraclinical data. The data collected were analyzed using SPSS 17 software. Results: A total of 2786 patients were seen for gastroenterology consultations, including 1126 (40.4%) HBsAg-positive patients. Among them, 417 patients met the inclusion criteria and were the subject of the present study. The average age of the patients was 34.8 ± 10.5 years. Two hundred and forty-seven patients (65.7%) were male, representing a sex ratio of 1.9. The discovery of positive HBsAg status was made during systematic screening in 231 patients (55.4%). Scarifications were noted in 373 patients (89.4%). Asthenia was reported in 184 patients (44.1%). Co-infections with human immunodeficiency virus, hepatitis C and D viruses were 0% (0 in 92), 2.8% (4 in 146) and 14.3% (2 in 146), respectively. During the initial assessment, 274 patients (65.7%) were sero-negative for chronic HBeAg infection, 21 (5%) had clinically significant fibrosis including 16 (3.8%) at the stage of cirrhosis and 7 patients (5.4%) had hepatocellular carcinoma. Frequency and Factors Associated with Gender-Based Violence in the Northern Region of Benin from 2016 to 2022

Introduction: Gender-based violence constitutes a public health problem. The objective of this study is to determine the frequency and factors associated with gender-based violence. Study Framework.and Method: This was a retrospective, descriptive, cross-sectional study with an analytical aim over the period from January 2016 to December 2022. The study took.place in the Integrated Support Center for Victims and Survivors of Gender-Based Violence located in the Departmental University Hospital Center of Borgou and Alibori. The study population consisted of people who were victims of gender-based violence in the northern region of Benin, regardless of their age and gender. Results: The study population consisted of 1198 subjects. The average age of the victims was 21.76 ± 10.02;female victims represented 96.4%, with a sex ratio equal to 0.037 (43/1155). Sexual violence was the most represented (50.25%), followed by psychological (29.30%), physical (24.37%), economic (13.77%) and property (2%). The factors associated with violence were married people and monthly income (physical violence), minors, female gender and single people (sexual violence), polygamous households and monthly income (economic violence), the absence of children burden, married people and monthly income (psychological violence), married people (property violence). Conclusion: Gender-based violence is frequent in the North of Benin and is dominated by sexual violence. The victims are mainly female.

Quantification of non-coding RNA target localization diversity and its application in cancers

SubceUular localization is pivotal for RNAs and proteins to implement biological functions. The localization diversity of protein interactions has been studied as a crucial feature of proteins, considering that the protein-protein interactions tak. place in vari- ous subceltutar locations. Nevertheless, the localization diversity of non-coding RNA （ncRNA） target proteins has not been sys- tematically studied, especially its characteristics in cancers. In this study, we provide a new algorithm, non-coding RNA target localization coefficient （ncTALENT）, to quantify the target localization diversity of ncRNAs based on the ncRNA-protein interaction and protein subcellular localization data. ncTALENT can be used to calculate the target localization coefficient of ncRNAs and measure how diversely their targets are distributed among the subcellular locations in various scenarios. We focus our study on long non-coding RNAs （IncRNAs）, and our observations reveal that the target localization diversity is a primary characteristic of IncRNAs in different biotypes. Moreover, we found that IncRNAs in multiple cancers, differentially expressed cancer IncRNAs, and IncRNAs with multiple cancer target proteins are prone to have high target localization diversity. Furthermore, the analysis of gastric cancer helps us to obtain a better understanding that the target localization diversity of IncRNAs is an important feature closely related to clinical prognosis. Overall, we systematically studied the target localization diversity of the IncRNAs and uncovered its association with cancer.

Acupuncture Enhances Chances of Pregnancy in Unexplained Infertile Patients Who Undergo A Blastocyst Transfer in A Fresh-Cycle

Objective: To analyze the effects of acupuncture on in vitro fertilization patients with unexplained ***: We retrospectively analyzed the charts of a total of 302 cycles performed in 273 patients attending Assisted Reproductive Technology(ART) Centre from August 2013 to August *** the study period,embryo transfer with acupuncture(Acupuncture group,46 cases) and without acupuncture(Control group,42 cases) were *** to embryo transfer,the following points were used in the acupuncture group: Neiguan(CX 6),Diji(SP 8),Taichong(Liv 3),Baihui(Gv 20),and Guilai(S 29).These sessions were carried out two times before and after embryo transfer in a single *** addition,auricular acupuncture was also performed at ear points,including ear point 55(Shenmen),ear point 58(Zhigong),ear point 22(Neifenmi)and ear point 34(Naodian).The biochemical pregnancy rate and clinical pregnancy rate after transplantation were compared between two ***: The clinical pregnancy rate in the acupuncture group was higher than that in the control group [60.9%(28/46) vs.33.3%(14/42),respectively,Pk.wise,the live birth rate in the acupuncture group was also higher than that in the control group [71.7%(33/46) vs.31.0%(12/42),P<0.01).Conclusion: Administration of acupuncture on the day of embryo transfer dramatically improved fertility results in women who underwent in vitro fertilization/intra-cytoplasm sperm injection for reproduction.

BACk.ROUND The importance of early diagnosis of alcoholic liver disease underscores the need to seek.better and especially non-invasive diagnostic *** cellderived chemotaxin-2(LECT2)has been widely studied to determine its usefulness in monitoring the course of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease but not for alcoholic liver cirrhosis(ALC).AIM To determine the concentration of LECT2 in the blood serum of patients in relation to progressive stages of ALC,its relation to fibroblast growth factor 1(FGF-1)and FGF-21,and to examine the possible wider use of LECT2 in diagnosing *** A retrospective case-control study was conducted with 69 ALC cases and 17 controls with no *** were recruited from the region of Lublin(eastern Poland).Liver cirrhosis was diagnosed based on clinical features,history of heavy alcohol consumption,laboratory tests,and abdominal *** degree of ALC was evaluated according to Pugh-Child criteria(the Pugh-Child score).Blood was drawn and,after centrifugation,serum was collected for ***2,FGF-1,and FGF-21 were determined using enzyme-link.d immunosorbent assay *** The LECT2 Levels in the control group were 18.99±5.36 ng/*** the study groups,they declined with the progression of cirrhosis to 11.06±6.47 ng/mL in one group and to 8.06±5.74 ng/mL in the other(P<0.0001).Multiple comparison tests confirmed the statistically significant differences in LECT2 Levels between the control group and both test groups(P=0.006 and P<0.0001).FGF-21 Levels were 44.27±64.19 pg/mL in the first test group,45.4±51.69 pg/mL in the second(P=0.008),and 13.52±7.51 pg/mL in the control *** difference between the control group and the second test group was statistically significant(P=0.007).CONCLUSION We suggest that LECT2 may be a non-invasive diagnostic factor for alcoholinduced liver *** usefulness of LECT2 for non-invasive monitoring of alcohol-induced liver cirrhosis was indirectly confirmed b

Binary Tree-Genetic Algorithm (BTGA) is applied successfully in various classification task.. At each non-terminal node, genetic algorithms (GAs) are employed to find the optimal hyperplane to partition samples into two disjoint subsets. A novel decision tree, called genetic algorithm-based quadratic decision tree (GA-based QDT), is proposed by extending the BTGA. In the GA-based QDT, GAs are applied to evolve the optimal quadratic hyper-surface at each non-terminal node. The performance of the GA-based QDT is evaluated and compared with several well k.own decision tree algorithms, including the BTGA.
