Energy loss at bends in the pneumatic conveying of fly ash

An accurate estimation of the total pressure drop of a pipeline is important to the reliable design of a pneumatic conveying system. The present paper presents results from an investigation into the modelling of the pressure drop at a bend in the pneumatic conveying of fly ash. seven existing bend models were used （in conjunction with solids friction models for horizontal and vertical straight pipes, and initial acceleration losses） to predict the total pipeline pressure drop in conveying fly ash （median particle diameter： 30 }zm; particle density： 2300 kg/m^3; loose-poured bulk density： 700 kg/m3） in three test rigs （pipelines with dimensions of 69 mm inner diameter （I.D.） × 168 m length; 105 mm I.D. × 168 m length; 69 mm I.D. × 554 m length）. A comparison of the pneumatic conveying characteristics （PCC） predicted using the seven bend models and experimental results shows that the predicted total pipeline PCC and trends depend on the choice of bend model. While some models predict trends that agree with the experimental results, other models predicted greater bend pressure drops for the dense phase of fly ash than for the dilute phase. Isolation and characterization of tyrosinase produced by marine actinobacteria and its application in the removal of phenol from aqueous environment

The present study was focused on screening and characterization of tyrosinase enzyme produced by marine actinobacteria and its application in phenolic compounds removal from aqueous solution. A total of 20 strains were isolated from marine sediment sample and screened for tyrosinase production by using skimmed milk agar medium. Among 20 isolates, two isolates Lk-4 and Lk-20 showed zone of hydrolysis and these were taken for secondary screening by using tyrosiue agar medium. Based on the result of secondary screening Lk-4 was selected for further analysis, such as tyrosinase assay, protein content and specific activity of the enzyme. The tyrosinase enzyme was produced in a ss medium and was partially purified by ammonium sulfate precipitation, dialysis and sDs PAGE. The isolate （Lk-4） was identified as streptomyces espinosus using 16s rRNA gene sequencing and named as ＂streptomyces espinosus strain Lk4 （kF806735）＂. The tyrosinase enzyme was immobilized in sodium alginate which was applied to remove phenolic compounds from water. The enzyme efficiently removed the phenolic compounds from aqueous solution within few hours which indicated that tyrosinasc enzyme produced by streptomyces espinosus strain Lk-4 can be potently used for the removal of phenol and phenolic compounds from wastewater in industries.

Effect of Fuel to Oxidant Molar Ratio on structural and DC Electrical Conductivity of ZnO Nanoparticles Prepared by simple solution Combustion Method

ZnO nanoparticles of different sizes were prepared by varying the molar ratio of glycine and zinc nitrate hexahydrate as fuel and oxidizer （0.1, 0.8, 1.11, 1.3, 1.5, 1.7, 2.0） by simple solution combustion method. UV-Visible spectrophotometry studies show that, the band gap of the prepared ZnO nanoparticles increases with increasing fuel to oxidant （F/O） molar ratio up to 1.7 revealing the formation of ZnO nanoparticles. The decrease in band gap for the sample of F/O molar ratio 2.0 is due to an increase in particle size. Powder X-ray diffraction patterns of the prepared samples show the formation of single phase ZnO nanoparticles and the particle size decreases with increasing F/O molar ratio up to 1.7. surface morphology of the prepared samples was studied by scanning electron microscopy and it was observed that, the porosity increases with increasing F/O molar ratio. DC electrical conductivity at room temperature and in the temperature range of 303-563 k was studied for all the samples and the results revealed that, the sample of F/O molar ratio 1.7 has low electrical conductivity at room temperature and high EAR （high temperature activation energy） compared to other samples.

Performance-Economic and Energy Loss Analysis of 80 kWp Grid Connected Roof Top Transformer Less Photovoltaic Power Plant

In India most part receives 4 - 7 kWh of solar radiation per square meter per day with 200 - 250 sunny days in a year. Tamilnadu state also receives the highest annual radiation in India. In this paper, the grid connected photovoltaic plant has a peak power of 80 kWp supplies electricity requirement of GRT IET campus during day time (7 hrs) and reduces load demand and generates useful data for future implementation of such PV plant projects in the Tamilnadu region. Photovoltaic plant was installed in April 2015, monitored during 6 months, and the performance ratio and the various power losses (power electronics, temperature, soiling, internal, network, grid availability and interconnection) were calculated. The PV plant supplied 64,182.86 kWh to the grid from April to september 2015, ranging from 11,510.900 to 10,200.9 kWh. The final yield ranged from 143.886 (h/d) to 127.51 (y/d), reference yield ranged from 201.6 (h/d) to 155.31 (h/d) and performance ratio ranged from 71.3% to 82.1%, for a duration of six months, it had given a performance ratio of 83.82%, system efficiency was 4.16% and the capacity factor of GRT IET Campus for six months was 18.26%. Payback period in years = 9 years 4 months, energy saving per year = 204,400 kWh, cost reduction per year = 1,737,400, Indian rupee = 26,197.30 UsD and total COsub>2sub> reductions per year = 102,200 tons COsub>2sub>/year.

Comparative study on corrosion behavior of plasma sprayed Al_2O_3, ZrO_2, Al_2O_3/ZrO_2 and ZrO_2/Al_2O_3 coatings

ZrO2, Al2O3, ZrO2/Al2O3 and Al2O3/ZrO2 coatings were fabricated on low carbon steel using atmospheric plasma spraying technique. The microstructure and phase composition of the as-sprayed coatings were examined by scanning electron microscopy （sEM） and X-ray diffraction （XRD）, respectively. The polarization test, salt spray test and immersion test were used to investigate the corrosion behavior of the coatings in 3.5% NaCl solution. The results suggested that the bilayered Al2O3/ZrO2 coating exhibits superior corrosion resistance when compared with the other coatings. This is ascribed to the presence of very few interconnected pores and stable phases in the coating.

Application of Genetic Algorithm for Optimization of Important Parameters of Magnetically Biased Microstrip Circular Patch Antenna

The application of Genetic Algorithm (GA) to the optimization of important parameters (Directivity, Radiated Power, Impedance etc.) of magnetically biased microstrip antenna, fabricated on ferrite substrate, is reported. The fitness functions for the GA program have been developed using cavity method for the analysis of microstrip antenna. The effect of external magnetic biasing has also been incorporated in the fitness function formulation as effective propagation constant. Using stochastic based search method of GA the common characteristics of electro-magnetic were entertained which cannot be handled by other optimization techniques. The genetic algorithm was run for 500 generations. The computed results are in good agreement with the results obtained experimentally.

Comparative study of the results of compound tibial shaft fractures treated by Ilizarov ring fixators and limb reconstruction system fixators

Purpose： llizarov ring fixator and limb reconstruction system （LRs） fixators have been used in the management of complex tibial fractures with severe soft tissue injuries, compound tibial fractures, and infected tibial nonunion for which conventional internal fixation cannot be contemplated. Fracture union and distraction osteogenesis can be done simultaneously with these external fixators, allowing early weight bearing. several previous studies have shown almost equal results of rail and ring fixators for the compound tibial shaft fractures. Thus we performed a prospective study to evaluate the union rate, functional outcome and amount of limb lengthening after the treatment of compound tibial shaft fractures with or without infected nonunion by ring or LRs fixators. Methods： This prospective study was done at sarojini Naidu Medical College and Hospital, Agra, India and included 32 patients of compound tibial shaft fractures with or without infected nonunion. There were 26 males and 6 females and the average age was 40 years. Patients were randomly divided into two groups （n - 16 for each）： one underwent llizarov fixation and the other received LRs fixation. Cases were followed up for 3-24 months, 6 months on average from september 2012 to October 2014. Functional and radiological outcomes were assessed using the Association for the study and Application of Methods of llizarov （AsAMI） criteria for both rail and ring fixators. Results： Union was achieved in all cases. Radiological outcome was found excellent in 68.75%, good in 18.75% and fair in 12.50% of cases treated by rail fixators whereas it was excellent in 56.25%, good in 18.75%, fair in 12.50% and poor in 12.50% of cases treated by ring fixators. Functional result was satis- factory in 75.00% of cases treated by rail fixator and 68.75% of cases treated by ring fixators whereas the corresponding rate of unsatisfactory was 25.00% vs. 31.25%. Conclusion： In our short-term assessment, LRs fixators show a better

Evaluation and Bulked segregant Analysis of Major Yield QTL qtl12.1 Introgressed into Indigenous Elite Line for Low Water Availability under Water stress

Near isogenic lines carrying large-effect QTL （qtl2.1）, which has a consistent influence on grain yield under upland drought stress conditions in a wide range of environments, were evaluated under water stress in the fields. The line which gave higher yield under drought was crossed with a local elite line, PMk3, and forwarded to F2：3 generation. significant variation was found among the F2：3 lines for agronomic traits under water stress in the fields. Low to high broad sense heritability （H） for investigated traits was also found. Water stress indicators such as leaf rolling and leaf drying were negatively correlated with plant height, biomass and grain yield under stress. Bulked segregant analysis （BsA） was performed with the markers in the vicinity of qUl2.1, and RM27933 was found to be segregated perfectly well in individual components of drought resistant and drought susceptible bulks which were bulked based on yield under water stress among F2：3 lines. Hence, this simple and breeder friendly marker, RM27933, may be useful as a potentially valuable candidate marker for the transfer of the QTL qtl12.1 in the regional breeding program. Bioinformatic analysis of the DNA sequence of the qtl12.1 region was also done to identify and analyze positional candidate genes associated with this QTL and to ascertain the putative molecular basis of qUl2.1.

On-time recognition and early control of the stresses in the paddy crops at the booting growth stage is the key to prevent qualitative and quantitative loss of agricultural *** conventional paddy crop stress recognition and classification activities invariably rely on human experts identifying visual symptoms as a means of *** process is admittedly subjective and error-prone,which in turn can lead to incorrect actions being taken in stress management *** work presented in this paper aims to design a deep convolutional neural network(DCNN)framework for automatic recognition and classification of various biotic and abiotic paddy crop stresses using the field *** has adopted the pre-trained VGG-16 CNN model for the automatic classification of stressed paddy crop images captured during the booting growth *** trained models achieve an average accuracy of 92.89%on the held-out dataset,demonstrating the technical feasibility of using the deep learning approach utilizing 30,000 field images of 5 different paddy crop varieties with 12 different stress categories(including healthy/normal).The proposed work finds applications in developing the decision support systems and mobile applications for automating the field crop and resource management practices.

Automated recognition and classification of adulteration levels from bulk paddy grain samples

Fraudulent labeling and adulteration are the major concerns in the global rice *** all the paddy varieties being sold in the market are prone to *** is very difficult to differentiate paddy grains of various varieties in the mixed bulk sample based on visual ***,there is no sophisticated appearance-based commercial scale technology to reliably detect and quantify adulteration in bulk paddy grain *** paper presents a cost-effective image processing technique for the recognition of adulteration and classification of adulteration levels(%)from the images of adulterated bulk paddy samples using state-of-the-art color and texture *** this work,seven adulterated bulk paddy samples are considered and each of the samples is prepared by mixing a premium paddy variety with the identical looking and commercially inferior paddy variety at five different adulteration levels(weight ratios)of 10%,15%,20%,25%and 30%.The study compares the performances of three different classification models,namely,Multilayer Back Propagation Neural Network(BPNN),support Vector Machine(sVM)and k-Nearest Neighbor(k-NN).The Principal Component Analysis(PCA)and sequential Forward Floating selection(sFFs)methods have been employed separately for the automatic selection of optimal feature subsets from the combined color and texture *** maximum average adulteration level classification accuracy of 93.31%is obtained using the BPNN classification model trained with PCA-based reduced *** proposed technique can be used as an economic,rapid,non-destructive and quantitative technique for testing adulteration,authenticity,and quality of bulk paddy grain samples.
