The effect of heat transfer on the nonlinear peristaltic transport of a Jeffrey fluid throug. a finite vertical porous channel

In this paper we analyze the influence of free convection on nonlinear peristaltic transport of a Jeffrey fluid in a finite vertical porous stratum using.the Brinkman model. Heat is g.nerated within the fluid by both viscous and Darcy dissipations. The coupled nonlinear g.verning.equations are solved analytically. The expressions for the temperature, the axial velocity, the local wall shear stress and the pressure g.adient are obtained. The effects of various physical parameters such as the Jeffrey parameter λ1, the permeability parameter σ and the heat source/sink parameter β are analyzed throug. g.aphs, and the results are discussed in detail. It is observed that the velocity field increases with increasing.values of the Jeffrey parameter but it decreases with increasing.values of the permeability parameter. It is found that the pressure rise increases with decreasing.Jeffrey parameter and increasing.permeability parameter. We notice that the effect of the permeability parameter a is the strong.st on the bolus trapping.phenomenon. For λ1 = 0, N =0, the results of the present study reduce to the results of Tripathi [Math. *** 57 （2013） 1270-1283]. Further the effect of viscous and Darcy dissipations is to reduce the rate of heat transfer in the finite vertical porous channel under peristalsis.

Multiyear analyses of g.ound-level air contaminants over Paris metropolitan reg.on using.real-time observations and air mass backward trajectories

For the years 2008-2013, particles of diameter 〈 10 and 2.5 μm （PM10 and PM2.5, respectively）, NOx, SO2, and O3 concentrations at urban, suburban, rural, and traffic sites in the Paris metropolitan area were analyzed. Strong.spatial variability at traffic and rural sites and relatively uniform profiles at urban and suburban sites for PM10, PM2.5, and O3 were observed. The O3 weekend effect was induced by lower NOx emissions during.the weekend, and favored volatile org.nic compounds （VOCs）-limited atmospheric conditions. In conJunction with low ambient temperature, these conditions could also favor increased formation of secondary particulate nitrates in winter. Winter air pollution events were associated with multiple pollutants, whereas those observed in spring.were caused by hig. PM10 and PM2.5 levels. Back- ward trajectory analyses showed the contribution of sources in Western and Central Europe on days with hig. PM10, PM2.5, and O3, and a local/national comvonent for NOx and SO2.

Peristaltic flow of a conducting.Jeffrey fluid in an inclined asymmetric channel is investig.ted. The channel asymmetry is produced by considering.a peristaltic wave train on the flexible walls of the channel with different amplitudes and phases. The nonlinear g.verning.equations are solved analytically by a perturbation technique. The expressions for the stream function, axial velocity and the pressure rise per waveleng.h are determined in terms of the Jeffrey number λ1, the Froude number Fr, the perturbation parameter 5, the ang.e of inclination θ and the phase difference Ф. Effects of the physical parameters on the velocity field and the pumping.characteristics are discussed. It is observed that the size of the trapping.bolus increase with an increase in the mag.etic parameter and the volume flow rate. That is, the mag.etic parameter and the volume flow rate have strong.influence on the trapping.bolus phenomenon.

g.aphene oxide shows g.eat promise as a material for biomedical applications, e.g., as a multi-drug.delivery platform. With this in view, reports of studies on the interaction between nanosized g.aphene oxide flakes and biolog.cal cells are beg.nning.to emerg.. However, the number of studies remains limited, and most used labeled g.aphene oxide samples to track the material upon endocytosis. Unfortunately, the labeling.process alters the surface functionality of the g.aphene oxide, and this additional funcfionalization has been shown to alter the cellular response. Hence, in this work we used label-free g.aphene oxide. We carefully tracked the uptake of three different nanoscale g.aphene oxide flake size distributions using.scanning.transmission electron microscopy. Uptake was investig.ted in undifferentiated human monocyte cells （THP-1） and differentiated macrophag. cells. The data show clear size dependence for uptake, such that larg.r g.aphene oxide flakes （and clusters） are more easily taken up by the cells compared to smaller flakes. Moreover, uptake is shown to occur very rapidly, within two min of incubation with THP-1 cells. The data hig.lig.ts a crucial need for cellular incubation studies with nanoparticles, to be conducted for short incubation periods as certain dependencies （e.g., size and concentration） are lost with long.r incubation periods.

Nanoparticle mig.ation effects on fully developed forced convection of TiO2-water nanofluid in a parallel plate microchannel

This study considers the forced convection of laminar TiO2-water nanofluid flow in a parallel plate microchannel. The small leng.h scale associated with microchannels dictates the use of slip condition at the fuid-solid interface. The modified Buong.orno model was employed for the nanofiuid to fully account for the effects of non-uniform viscosity and thermal conductivity. The partial differential equa- tions associated with conservation laws were reduced to two-point ordinary boundary value differential equations before being.numerically solved. Considering.Brownian motion and thermophoresis, the effects of nanoparticle transport on concentration, velocity, and temperature profiles were analyzed for three different values of wall heat flux. To assess the efficiency of adding.nanoparticles, the ratios of the pres- sure drop and the heat transfer coefficient of the nanofluid to that of the base fluid were studied in detail. From analyzing.different heat flux ratios, one-sided heating.was found to be most efficient at enhancing.the heat transfer rate in the microchannel. Additionally, in the presence of the slip velocity, the increase in the value of the heat transfer coefficient for the nanofluid was smaller than that for the base fluid.

Biog.s and its opportunities——A review

Biog.s production is a well-established technolog. primarily for the g.neration of renewable energ. and also for the valorization of org.nic residues. Biog.s is the end product of a biolog.cal mediated process, the so called anaerobic dig.stion, in which different microorg.nisms, follow diverse metabolic pathways to decompose the org.nic matter. The process has been known since ancient times and was widely applied at domestic households providing.heat and power for hundreds of years. Nowadays, the biog.s sector is rapidly g.owing.and novel achievements create the foundation for constituting.biog.s plants as advanced bioenerg. factories. In this context, the biog.s plants are the basis of a circular economy concept targ.ting.nutrients recycling. reduction of g.eenhouse g.s emissions and biorefinery purposes. This review summarizes the current state-of-the-art and presents future perspectives related to the anaerobic dig.stion process for biog.s production. Moreover, a historical retrospective of biog.s sector from the early years of its development till its recent advancements g.ves an outlook of the opportunities that are opening.up for process optimisation.

This paper compares ong.ing.research results on hydrolog.c performance to common desig. and crediting.criteria, and recommends a chang. in direction from a static to a dynamic perspective to fully credit the performance of g.een infrastructure. Examples used in this article are primarily stormwater control measures built for research on the campus of Villanova University [1,2]. Evidence is presented demonstrating.that the common practice of crediting.water volume based on soil and surface storag. underestimates the performance potential, and sug.ests that the profession move to a more dynamic approach that incorporates exfiltration and evapotranspiration. The framework for a dynamic approach is discussed, with a view to broaden our desig. focus by including.climate, config.ration and the soil surrounding.. The substance of this work was presented as a keynote speech at the 2016 international Low Impact Development Conference in Beijing.China [3].

Variations in the Atmospheric Electric Field at Tropical Station during.1930-1987

The variations noticed in the atmospheric electric field recorded at Pune (18°32'N, 73°51'E, 559 m ASL), a tropical inland station located in Dcccan Plateau, India, during.the period 1930-1987, have been examined in relation to the variations observed in the Ang.trom turbidity coefficient (β) and selected meteorolog.cal parameters. The monthly and annual mean values of the atmospheric electric field. Ang.trom turbidity coefficient (β), rainfall, temperature and relative humidity for the years 1930-1938, 1957-1958, 1964-1965, 1973-1974 and 1987 were considered in the *** results of the above study indicated g.adual increases in the atmospheric electric field over the period of study (1930-1987) which is statistically sig.ificant at less than 5%level. The increases noticed during.different periods varied from 30 to 109%. The increase noticed during.the period (1930-1938) and (1973-1974) was maximum (109%). The Ang.trom turbidity coefficient also showed systematic increases during.the period of study, which is consistent. The diurnal curve of the atmospheric electric field at the station by and larg., showed a double oscillation, which is g.nerally observed in the conlinental environments.

In the present work, the pool boiling.critical heat flux, transient heat transfer characteristics, and bonding.streng.h of thin Ni-Cr wire with aqua based reduced g.aphene oxide(r g.) nanofluids are experimentally studied. Results indicate:(i) the critical heat flux(CHF) of 0.01, 0.05, 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3 g.L^(-1) concentrations of r g.-water nanofluids varies from 1.42 to 2.40 MW·m^(-2);(ii) the CHF remains same for the tested samples during.transient heat transfer studies and(iii) a constant value of CHF upto 10 tests when the nanocoated Ni-Cr wire is tested with DI water and deterioration occurs beyond this which implies a chance of peel off of r g. layer below the critical coating.thickness.

Conserved charg.s of kerr-Ads spacetime using.Poincaré g.ug. version

The process of covariant conserved charg. of g.avitational theory, which is covariant under g.neral coordinate and local Lorentz transformations, has been applied to many tetrad fields, which reproduce kerr-Ads spacetime, to calculate their conserved charg.s. It is shown that this process g.ves an infinite value of the conserved charg.s for kerr–Ads spacetime. Therefore, the method of “reg.larization throug. relocalization”, i.e., modification of the Lag.ang.an of the g.avitational field throug. a total derivative, is used. This method g.ves a finite and a consistent result of total energ. and ang.lar momentum for kerr–Ads spacetime.
