Monolayer MnTe_(2)stabilized as 1 T structure has been theoretically predicted to be a two-dimensional(2 D)ferromagnetic metal and can be tuned via strain *** is no naturally van der Waals(vdW)layered MnTe_(2)bulk,leaving mechanical exfoliation impossible to prepare monolayer MnTe_(2).Herein,by means of molecular beam epitaxy(MBE),we successfully prepared monolayer hexagonal MnTe_(2)on Si(111)under Te rich *** reflection high-energy electron diffraction(RHEED)and low-energy electron diffraction(lEED)patterns suggest the monolayer is atomically flat without surface *** valence state of Mn^(4+)and the atom ratio of([Te]:[Mn])further confirm the MnTe_(2)*** tunneling spectroscopy(STS)shows the hexagonal MnTe_(2)monolayer is a semiconductor with a large bandgap of~2.78 *** valence-band maximum(VBM)locates at theΓpoint,as illustrated by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy(ARPES),below which three hole-type bands with parabolic dispersion can be *** successful synthesis of monolayer MnTe_(2)film provides a new platform to investigate the 2D magnetism.

A comprehensive numerical model has been developed to investigate the transient behaviors of particle characteristics, such as temperature, melting, evaporation, and oxidation status during argon-hydrogen DC plasma *** model includes heat, momentum and mass transfer of carrier gas, and particle heating, melting, evaporationand oxidation. Special attentions have been paid to the evaporation-induced mass transfer and oxidation-inducedevaporation as well as variable non-continuum phenomena.

Numerical study of the dynamic characteristics of a single-layer graphite core in a thorium molten salt reactor

A reactor core in a thorium molten salt reactor uses graphite as a moderator and reflector. The graphite core is a multi-layered arrangement of graphite bricks that are loosely connected to each other using a system of keys and dowels. Consequently, the graphite core is a type of discrete stack structure with highly nonlinear dynamic behavior. Hence, it is important to investigate the dynamic characteristics of the graphite core. In this study, a threedimensional single-layer graphite core model, which is a part of the thorium molten salt reactor side reflector structure, was analyzed using the explicit method in ABAQUS 2016 to study the core dynamic behavior when subjected to different excitations. The design parameters,such as the diameter of the dowel, the gap between key and keyway and the bypass flow gap between two adjacent bricks, were also considered in this model. To reduce excessive demands on available computational resources considering the effect of molten salt, the spring–dashpot model was applied to model the interaction forces between the molten salt and graphite bricks. Numerical simulation results show that the effect of molten salt is a reduction inthe peak maximal principal stress, and a larger gap between two bricks is beneficial to maintain the integrity of the graphite core under earthquake loading. The results obtained by the simulation can be used as a reference for future designs of a molten salt graphite core.

Identifying topologies and system parameters of uncertaintime-varying delayed complex networks

Node dynamics and network topologies play vital roles in determining the network features and network dynamical *** it is of great theoretical significance and practical value to recover the topology structures and system parameters of uncertain complex networks with available information. This paper presents an adaptive anticipatory synchronization-based approach to identify the unknown system parameters and network topological structures of uncertain time-varying delayed complex networks in the presence of noise. Moreover, during the identification process, our proposed scheme guarantees anticipatory synchronization between the uncertain drive and constructed auxiliary response network simultaneously. Particularly, our method can be extended to several special cases. Furthermore, numerical simulations are provided to verify the effectiveness and applicability of our method for reconstructing network topologies and node parameters. We hope our method can provide basic insight into future research on addressing reconstruction issues of uncertain realistic and large-scale complex networks.

Assume that {R γ } γ∈Γ is a countable family of relations of the full measure on a probability space (X, B, μ), i.e. for every γ ∈ Γ there is a positive integer s γ such that R γ ? $X^{s_\gamma } $ with $\mu ^{s_\gamma } $ (R γ ) = 1. In the present paper we show that if (X, B, μ) has a regular base, the cardinality of which is not greater than the cardinality of the continuum, then there exists a set k ? X with μ*(k) = 1 such that (x 1, …, $x_{^{s_\gamma } } $ ) ∈ R γ for any γ ∈ Γ and for any s γ distinct elements x 1, …, $x_{^{s_\gamma } } $ of k, where μ* is the outer measure induced by the measure μ. Moreover, an application of the result mentioned above is given to the dynamical systems determined by the iterates of measure-preserving transformations.

Microstructure and properties of pure iron/copper composite cladding layers on carbon steel

In the present study, pure iron/copper composite metal cladding was deposited onto carbon steel by tungsten inert gas welding. The study focused on interfacial morphological, microstructural, and mechanical analyses of the composite cladding layers. Iron liquid–solid-phase zones were formed at copper/steel and iron interfaces because of the melting of the steel substrate and iron. Iron concentrated in the copper cladding layer was observed to exhibit belt, globule, and dendrite morphologies. The appearance of iron-rich globules indicated the occurrence of liquid phase separation（lPS） prior to solidification, and iron-rich dendrites crystallized without the occurrence of lPS. The maximum microhardness of the iron/steel interface was lower than that of the copper/steel interface because of the diffusion of elemental carbon. All samples fractured in the cladding layers. Because of a relatively lower strength of the copper layer, a short plateau region appeared when shear movement was from copper to iron.

Sequential slip transfer of mixed-character dislocations across Σ3 coherent twin boundary in FCC metals: a concurrent atomistic-continuum study

Sequential slip transfer across grain boundaries(GB)has an important role in size-dependent propagation of plastic deformation in polycrystalline *** example,the Hall–Petch effect,which states that a smaller average grain size results in a higher yield stress,can be rationalised in terms of dislocation pile-ups against *** spite of extensive studies in modelling individual phases and grains using atomistic simulations,well-accepted criteria of slip transfer across GBs are still lacking,as well as models of predicting irreversible GB structure *** transfer is inherently multiscale since both the atomic structure of the boundary and the long-range fields of the dislocation pile-up come into *** this work,concurrent atomistic-continuum simulations are performed to study sequential slip transfer of a series of curved dislocations from a given pile-up onΣ3 coherent twin boundary(CTB)in Cu and Al,with dominant leading screw character at the site of interaction.A Frank-Read source is employed to nucleate dislocations *** is found that subject to a shear stress of 1.2 GPa,screw dislocations transfer into the twinned grain in Cu,but glide on the twin boundary plane in ***,four dislocation/CTB interaction modes are identified in Al,which are affected by(1)applied shear stress,(2)dislocation line length,and(3)dislocation line *** results elucidate the discrepancies between atomistic simulations and experimental observations of dislocation-GB reactions and highlight the importance of directly modeling sequential dislocation slip transfer reactions using fully 3D models.

Characteristic-based operator-splitting finite element method for Navier-Stokes equations

A new finite element method, which is the characteristic-based operator-splitting (CBOS) algorithm, is developed to solve Navier-Stokes (N-S) equations. In each time step, the equations are split into the diffusive part and the convective part by adopting the operator-splitting algorithm. For the diffusive part, the temporal discretization is performed by the backward difference method which yields an implicit scheme and the spatial discretization is performed by the standard Galerkin method. The convective part can be discretized using the characteristic Galerkin method and solved explicitly. The driven square flow and backward-facing step flow are conducted to validate the model. It is shown that the numerical results agree well with the standard solutions or existing experimental data, and the present model has high accuracy and good stability. It provides a prospective research method for solving N-S equations.

Three-dimensional thermo-rheological structure of the lithosphere in the North China Craton determined by integrating multiple observations: Implications for the formation of rifts

The lithosphere of the North China Craton(NCC)has experienced significant destruction and deformation since the Mesozoic,a notable feature of which is the widespread extensional structure and lithospheric thinning in the eastern *** the thermo-rheological structure of the lithosphere is one of the main factors controlling these dynamic processes,a threedimensional thermo-rheological model of the present lithosphere in the NCC was developed based on a geophysical-petrological method using a variety of data,and its relationship with the extensional structures and the formation of rifts was further *** results show that the western NCC is characterized by thick lithosphere,low Moho temperature(TMoholl as high lithospheric strength and mantle-crust strength ratio(Sm/Sc>1).The deformation of the western narrow rift is consistent with the localized deformation dominated by the strength of lithospheric *** the other hand,the lithosphere in the eastern NCC is characterized by extensive thinning(with lithospheric thickness of about 80–110 km).However,the decrease of lithospheric strength is not uniform,with high strength(10×1012 Pa m)observed in some areas(such as the Bohai Bay Basin and Hehuai Basin).Most of the eastern lithosphere is characterized by high TMoho(600–750°C)and low Sm/Sc(l structure in the eastern *** results from palaeo-geothermal and petrological studies,we developed a thermo-rheological structure model of the lithosphere at different evolutionary stages of the NCC,and suggested that the eastern NCC had a significantly thinned and weakened lithosphere in the early stages of the formation of the rift,leading to a regional distributed extension deformation dominated by crustal strength,which eventually evolved into a series of wide ***,the cooling and accretion of the lithosphere in the subsequent stages significantly increased the strength of the

Two-dimensional finite element modeling on the crustal shortening and the surface erosion-sedimentation process across northern piedmont of the Tianshan Mountains

The Tianshan Mountains,located in the northwestern China,are bounded by the Tarim Basin to south and the Junggar Basin to *** the north piedmont of this mountain range,ongoing thrusting and folding forms a set of roughly parallel *** observations predicted that averaged over last^1 Ma time scale,the shortening rates of these anticlines are about2.1–5.5 mm/a;However by averaged over about 10±2 kyr,their shortening rates reduce to merely about 1.25±0.5 mm/*** slow shortening of the anticlines in the last^10±2 kyr is coarsely concurrent in time with the last global ***,we use a two-dimensional finite element model to explore crustal deformation across north piedmont of the Tianshan Mountains under various erosion-sedimentation conditions that are assumed to represent the climate-controlled surface *** experiments show that with a relatively weak erosion-sedimentation strength,the crustal shortening is accommodated mainly by north piedmont of the Tianshan Mountains,similar to the high shortening rate of anticlines averaged over the last^*** increasing erosion-sedimentation strength,the resultant crustal shortening is transformed gradually toward the Tianshan Mountains,resulting in the shortening rate in its north piedmont being decelerated to what is observed as averaged over the last^10±2 *** result suggests that erosion and sedimentation could play an important role mechanically on strain localization across an intra-continent active tectonic ***,if the climate change around the last global deglaciation could be simply representative to the enhancement of surface erosion and sedimentation across the pre-existed Tianshan Mountains and its foreland,our models indicate that the observed shortening-rate variations averaged over^1 Ma and^10±2kyr time scales around north piedmont of the Tianshan Mountains should be resulted from climate changes.
