Dynamic remote monitoring system for plant root growth and water consumption

In order to improve the level of multi-functional and automatic observation of crop root system growth,a soil column monitoring system was designed to facilitate in situ dynamic monitoring of root growth and water *** system consists of 20 plastic tubular backfill soil columns,each with an inner diameter of 32 cm and height of 300 *** crops were planted at the top of the soil column with the surrounding leveled with the ground surface and the site is in a *** underground portion of the soil column contains small round windows on the tube through which root growth can be monitored,roots can be pruned and soil samples can be obtained.A multiport serial weighing system was designed and placed at the base of the soil *** electronic balances were connected to the personal computer through three CP-168U multiport serial cards and RS-232 serial *** host software was developed on the browser/server(Browser/Server),and data collection and remote data transmission and data sharing were implemented using the java programming language and applying Internet data transmission technology and Web application *** tests showed a relatively good stability and real-time capability,and with accuracy up to 50 g and the evapotranspiration of each soil column was 0.25-0.65 kg per *** root-system observation system developed in this study surpassed the traditional method of root-digging sampling and thus provided an alternative that could be used to automatically monitor the root system growth status.

Visible-light communication(VLC)stands as a promising component of the future communication network by providing high-capacity,low-latency,and high-security wireless *** diode(SLD)is proposed as a new light emitter in the VLC system due to its properties of droop-free emission,high optical power density,and low *** this paper,we analyze a VLC system based on SLD,demonstrating effective implementation of carrierless amplitude and phase modulation(CAP).We create a low-complexity memory-polynomial-aided neural network(MPANN)to replace the traditional finite impulse response(FIR)post-equalization filters of CAP,leading to significant mitigation of the linear and nonlinear distortion of the VLC *** MPANN shows a gain in Q factor of up to 2.7 dB higher than other equalizers,and more than four times lower complexity than a standard deep neural network(DNN),hence,the proposed MPANN opens a pathway for the next generation of robust and efficient neural network equalizers in *** experimentally demonstrate a proof-of-concept 2.95-Gbit/s transmission using MPANN-aided CAP with 16-quadrature amplitude modulation(16-QAM)through a 30-cm channel based on the 442-nm blue SLD emitter.

在考虑堆石料真实颗粒形状的基础上,将每个颗粒用一个多边形离散单元表示,基于一种线性搜索算法对多边形-多边形之间的接触详情进行检索计算,引入基于势能原理的法向多边形-多边形接触模型及切向库仑摩擦模型,形成了一种多边形离散元计算方法,并开发了相应的PDEM程序。可以从颗粒尺度层面展示颗粒之间的相互作用以及每个颗粒的位移和转动,帮助进一步揭示颗粒的细观特性(形状、大小、材料特性等)对堆石料的宏观强度和变形的影响。最后采用PDEM程序对某粗粒料的二维模型试验进行了数值模拟,得到了与室内试验一致的应力变形规律,展现了其方法和程序用于研究堆石料的有效性。

Objective:To explore the anti-cancer activity of maslinic acid against colorectal cancer(CRC)cell lines and its possible ***:The inhibitory effect of maslinic acid was screened against five CRC cell lines(HT-29,HCT 116,SW480,SW48,and LS 174 T)via 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide *** and cell cycle analyses were carried out using annexinⅤ-FITC/propidium iodide staining and propidium iodide staining,respectively and subjected to fluorescence-activated cell sorting *** expression studies of inhibitor ofκB kinase-β(Ikk-β),checkpoint kinase 1(Chk1)and cyclin D1 were conducted using the jESS ***:Maslinic acid exhibited growth inhibitory effect in a doseand time-dependent manner in HT-29 and HCT 116 cell lines.A more prominent apoptosis induced by maslinic acid was observed in HCT 116 cell ***,in HT-29 cell line,maslinic acid induced cell cycle arrest by inhibiting the G1-S transition,which was accompanied by the downregulation of cyclin *** expression of unphosphorylated Ikk-βprotein was increased in both(HT-29 and HCT 116)cell lines after maslinic acid ***:Maslinic acid inhibits the growth of HT-29 and HCT 116 cells in a different manner,induces cell cycle arrest in HT-29 cells and causes apoptosis in HCT 116 cells partially via NF-κB pathway inhibition.

Investigation of ellipticity and pump power in a passively mode-locked fiber laser using the nonlinear polarization rotation technique

An elliptical initial polarization state is essential for generating mode-locked pulses using the nonlinear polarization rotation technique. In this work, the relationship between the ellipticity ranges capable of maintaining mode-locked operation against different pump power levels is investigated. An increasing pump power, in conjunction with minor adjustments to the polarization controller＇s quarter waveplate, results in a wider ellipticity range that can accommodate mode-locked operation. Other parameters such as noise, pulsewidth, and average output power are also observed to vary as the ellipticity changes.

Increased microglial activation and neuroinflammation within autonomic brain regions such as the rostral ventrolateral medulla(RVLM)have been implicated in stress-induced hypertension(SIH).Prorenin,a member of the brain renin-angiotensin system(RAS),can directly activate *** present study aimed to investigate the effects of prorenin on microglial activation in the RVLM of SIH *** were subjected to intermittent electric foot-shocks plus noise,this stress was administered for 2 h twice daily for 15 consecutive days,and mean arterial pressure(MAP)and renal sympathetic nerve activity(RSNA)were *** results showed that MAP and RSNA were augmented,and this paralleled increased pro-inflammatory phenotype(M1)*** and its receptor(PRR)expression and the NLR family pyrin domain containing 3(NLRP3)activation were increased in RVLM of SIH *** addition,PLX5622(a microglial depletion agent),MCC950(a NLRP3 inhibitor),and/or PRO20(a(Pro)renin receptor antagonist)had antihypertensive effects in the *** NLRP3 expression in the RVLM was decreased in SIH rats treated with ***-tracker staining showed translocation of NLRP3 from mitochondria to the cytoplasm in proreninstimulated *** increased the ROS-triggering M1 phenotype-switching and NLRP3 activation,while MCC950 decreased the M1 *** conclusion,upregulated prorenin in the RVLM may be involved in the pathogenesis of SIH,mediated by activation of the microglia-derived NLRP3 *** link between prorenin and NLRP3 in microglia provides insights for the treatment of stress-related hypertension.

Gradation representation method using a binary-weighted computer-generated hologram based on pulse-width modulation

We propose a simple gradation representation method using a binary-weighted computer-generated hologram（CGH） to be displayed on a high-speed spatial light modulator that can be controlled by the pulse-width modulation technique. The proposed method uses multiple bit planes comprising binary-weighted CGHs with various pulse widths. The object points of a three-dimensional（3D） object are assigned to multiple bit planes according to their gray levels. The bit planes are sequentially displayed in a time-division-multiplexed ***, the proposed method realizes a gradation representation of a reconstructed 3D object.

Ampullary carcinoma:Effect of preoperative biliary drainage on surgical outcome

AIM： To evaluate the influence of preoperative biliary drainage on morbidity and mortality after surgical resection for ampullary carcinoma.METHODS： We analyzed retrospectively data for 82 patients who underwent potentially curative surgery for ampullary carcinoma between September 1993 and july 2007 at the Singapore General Hospital, a tertiary referral hospital. Diagnosis of ampullary carcinoma was confirmed histologically. Thirty-five patients underwent preoperative biliary drainage （PBD group）, and 47 were not drained （non-PBD group）. The mode of biliary drainage was endoscopic retrograde cholanoiopancreatography （n = 33） or percutaneous biliary drainage （n = 2）. The following parameters were analyzed： wound infection, intra-abdominal abscess, intra-abdominal or gastrointestinal bleeding, septicemia, biliary or pancreatic leakage, pancreatitis, gastroparesis, and re-operation rate. Mortality was assessed at 30 d （hospital mortality） and also longterm. The statistical endpoint of this study was patient survival after surgery.RESULTS： The groups were well matched for demographic criteria, clinical presentation and operative characteristics, except for lower hemoglobin in the non- PBD group （10.9 ± 1.6 vs 11.8 ± 1.6 in the PBD group）.Of the parameters assessing postoperative morbidity, incidence of wound infection was significantly less in the PBD than the non-PBD group [1 （2.9%） vs 12 （25.5%）]. However, the rest of the parameters did not differ significantly between the groups, i.e. sepsis [10 （28.6%） vs 14 （29.8%）], intra-abdominal bleeding [1 （2.9%） vs 5 （10.6%）], intra-abdominal abscess [1 （2.9%） vs 8 （17%）], gastrointestinal bleeding [3 （8.6%） vs 5 （10.6%）], pancreatic leakage [2 （5.7%） vs 3 （6.4%）], biliary leakage [2 （5.7%） vs 3 （6.4%）], pancreatitis [2 （5.7%） vs 2 （4.3%）], gastroparesis [6 （17.1%） vs 10 （21.3%）], need for blood transfusion [10 （28.6%） vs 17 （36.2%）] and re-operation rate [1 （2.9%） vs 5 （10.6%）].
