This study investigated the association of hypertension with cognitive impairment and determined whether better adherence to plant-based diet (PbD) patterns may modify the association. We analyzed 4485 elderly individuals with normal cognition at baseline from the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey (2011-2018). Cognitive function was assessed by the Mini-mental State Examination (MMSE)， and cognitive impairment was defined as an MMSE score below 18 points. Diet patterns were assessed using the overall plant-based diet index (PDI)， healthful plant-based diet index (hPDI)， and unhealthful plant-based diet index (uPDI) derived from a simplified food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). blood pressure was measured through physical examination. Cox proportional hazard regression and restricted cubic spline were performed. Participants with hypertension had an increased risk of cognitive impairment compared with normal group. The associations between hypertension and cognitive impairment were more pronounced among participants with lower PDI than those with higher PDI， among participants with lower hPDI than those with higher hPDI， and among participants with higher uPDI than those with lower uPDI. A healthful PbD pattern may attenuate hypertension-induced cognitive impairment， while an unhealthful PbD pattern may exacerbate hypertension-induced cognitive impairment in elderly. Adherence to healthful PbD pattern could be used to prevent or mitigate adverse neurological effects in the hypertensive population.

A 12-week feeding trial with juvenile red drum ( Sciaenops ocellatus ) fed high-soybean meal (SbM) diets was conducted to investigate a putative biomarker of nutritional imbalance, N-formimino-L-glutamate (FIGLU). Three fishmeal-free, 60% SbM pelleted diets (named b12, Fol, and Met, respectively) were tested to evaluate the effects on growth performance and tissue metabolite profiles of supplementation of vitamin b 12 (0.012 mg/kg), folate (10 mg/kg), methionine (1 g/kg) respectively, above basal supplementation levels. A fourth SbM-based diet (named b12/Fol/Met) was formulated with a combination of b 12 , folate, and methionine to attain the above-mentioned target concentrations. A fifth 60% SbM diet (named FWS) with methionine supplementation (1 g/kg above basal supplementation levels), enriched with taurine, lysine and threonine as well as minerals, was also tested. This diet contained formulation targets and additives which have allowed for replacing fishmeal with plant proteins in rainbow trout feeds. Control diets included a fishmeal-based diet (named FM), an unsupplemented basal 60% SbM diet (named SbM60), and a “natural” diet (named N) made up of equal parts of fish (cigar minnows), squid and shrimp as a positive reference for growth performance. Formulated feeds contained approximately 37% total crude protein, approximately 14% total crude lipid and were energetically balanced. Standard growth performance metrics were measured, and tissues (liver, muscle) were collected at week 12 to evaluate diet-induced metabolic changes using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR)-based metabolomics. Our results show that the FWS diet outperformed all other SbM diets and the FM diet under all performance metrics ( P but was detected in those fed the SbM diets and the FM diet. Manganese is ubiquitous in terrestrial environments and most studies have focused on dissolution of Mn oxides,but aluminosilicates also release ***,we evaluated oxic Mn dissolution from six rocks and minerals(amphibolite,anorthosite,kaolinite,kyanite,muscovite,orthoclase feldspar) and soils from four Critical Zone Observatories(CZOs) under four LMWOLs treatments(catechol,citric acid,oxalic acid,control).Overall rock and mineral Mn mass-normalized release was 1.4 ± 0.5 nM μM^(-1) 14 d^(-1) and dissolution rate was 2403 ± 935 nM m^(-2) d^(-1) x 10^(3).Overall CZO soil Mn release was 16.7±5.1 nM μM^(-1) 14 d^(-1) and dissolution rate was 7010 ± 2570 nM m^(-2) d^(-1) × 10^(3).Anorthosite and kyanite had the highest Mn dissolution rates but kaolinite and kyanite had the highest Mn mass-normalized release *** hypothesize the structural location of Mn,surface area,and potential inclusions of highly-weatherable-phases control Mn dissolution for rocks and *** soils with the highest solid phase Mn had the highest Mn release and dissolution *** acid and catechol had higher Mn release and dissolution rates than the control while oxalic acid did *** rocks and minerals,we found pH 4 had higher Mn release and dissolution rates than pH6,but not for control treatments without *** study highlights that the abundance of Mn drove Mn release in soils but not rocks and ***,LMWOLs are important for Mn dissolution,even under acidic pH conditions.

Situs inversus abdominus with rotational anomaly of the intestines is an extremely rare condition. Although intestinal malrotation has been recognized as a cause of obstruction in infants and children and may be complicated by intestinal ischaemia, it is very rare in adults. When it occurs in the adult patient, it may present acutely as bowel obstruction or intestinal ischaemia or chronically as vague intermittent abdominal pain. Herein, we present an acute presentation of a case of situs inversus abdominus and intestinal malrotation with Ladd＇s band leading to infarction of the intestine in a 32 year old woman.

Peripheral nerve injury impairs motor, sensory, and autonomic function, incurring substantial financial costs and diminished quality of life. For large nerve gaps, proximal lesions, or chronic nerve injury, the prognosis for recovery is particularly poor, even with autografts, the current gold standard for treating small to moderate nerve gaps. In vivo elongation of intact proximal stumps towards the injured distal stumps of severed peripheral nerves may offer a promising new strategy to treat nerve injury. This review describes several nerve lengthening strategies, including a novel internal fixator device that enables rapid and distal reconnection of proximal and distal nerve stumps.

background： Many studies examining individual-level correlates in youth utilize self-report rather than objective measures of physical activity （PA）. This utilization of self-report may result in associations that are not present when examining objectively measured PA. The present study investigates the relationship between hypothesized correlates of PA with objectively and subjectively measured PA. Methods： Participating children （n 232, 101 males, mean age - 12.3 years） provided a minimum of four monitored days of PA （via accelerometer） and completed a survey assessing moderate-to-vigorous physical activity （MVPA）, sport competence, appearance, enjoyment, and self-efficacy. Height and weight were measured and body mass index （bMI） was calculated. Results： Hierarchical regression models controlling for sex, race, and bMI Z-score showed that only sex and bMI Z-score were significant correlates of objective MVPA while only sex was a significant correlate of objective total PA. However, in a separate model examining the relationship with subjective MVPA, enjoyment of PA and self-efficacy for PA were the only significant correlates of self-reported PA. Conclusion： Measuring MVPA via self-report versus accelerometry produces considerably different results in a sample of young adolescents. Future studies should use caution when selecting outcome measures if the intent is to identify modifiable correlates of MVPA in youth.
