Psychological, social, and sexual challenges affecting men receiving male infertility treatment: a systematic review and implications for clinical care

In recent years, social research surrounding the consequences of infertility has increasingly focused on the male perspective;however, a gap exists in the understanding of men’s experiences of male infertility treatment. This review aims to synthesize theexisting evidence concerning the psychological, social, and sexual burden of male infertility treatment on men, as well as patientneeds during clinical care. A systematic search identified 12 studies that are diverse in design, setting, and methods. Psychologicalevaluations have found that urological surgery may have a la.ting impact on infertility-specific stress, and treatment failure canlead to feelings of depression, grief, and inadequacy. Men tended to have an avoidant coping mechanism throughout fertilitytreatment, and their self-esteem, rela.ionship quality, and sexual functions can be tied to outcomes of treatment. Partner bonds canbe strengthened by mutual support and enhanced communication;couple separation, however, has been noted as a predominantreason for discontinuing male infertility treatment and may be associated with difficult circumstances surrounding severe maleinfertility. Surgical treatments can affect the sexual functioning of infertile men;however, the impact of testicula. sperm extractionoutcomes appears to be psychologically driven whereas the improvements after microsurgical varicocelectomy are only evident inhypogonadal men. Clinically, there is a need for better inclusion, communication, education, and resource provision, to addressreported issues of marginalization and uncertainty in men. Routine psychosocial screening in cases of severe male infertility andfollow-up in cases of surgical treatment failure are likely beneficial.

Evaluating the performance of nanostructured materials as lithium-ion battery electrodes

The performance of the lithium-ion cell is heavily dependent on the ability of the host electrodes to accommodate and release Li＋ ions from the local structure. While the choice of electrode materials may define parameters such as cell potential and capacity, the process of intercala.ion may be physically limited by the rate of solid-state Li＋ diffusion. Increased diffusion rates in lithium-ion electrodes may be achieved through a reduction in the diffusion path, accomplished by a scaling of the respective electrode dimensions. In addition, some electrodes may undergo la.ge volume changes associated with charging and discharging, the strain of which, may be better accommodated through nanostructuring. Failure of the host to accommodate such volume changes may lead to pulverisation of the local structure and a rapid loss of capacity. In this review article, we seek to highlight a number of significant gains in the development of nanostructured lithium-ion battery architectures （both anode and cathode）, as drivers of potential next-generation electrochemical energy storage devices.

Highly active and durable Pd-Cu catalysts for oxygen reduction in alkaline exchange membrane fuel cells

A Pd-Cu catalyst, with primary B2-type phase, supported by VulcanXC-7R carbon was synthesized via a solvothermal method. The catalysts were physically and electrochemically characterized by X-ray diffraction （XRD）, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy （XPS）, trans- mission electron microscopy （TEM） and both cyclic and linear sweep voltammetry using a rotating disk electrode （RDE）. During the RDE testing, the half-wave potential of the Pd-Cu/Vulcan catalyst was 50 mV higher compared to that of commercial Pt/C catalyst for the oxygen reduction reaction （ORR） in alkaline media. The Pd-Cu/Vulcan exhibited a specific activity of 1.27 mA/cm2 and a mass activity of 0.59 A/mgpd at 0.9 V, which were 4 and 3 times greater than that of the commercial Pt/C catalyst, respectively. The Pd-Cu/Vulcan catalyst also showed higher in-situ alkaline exchange membrane fuel cell （AEMFC） performance, with operating power densities of 1100 MW/cm2 operating on H2/O2 and 700 MW/cm2 operating on H2/Air （CO2-free）, which were markedly higher than those of the commercial Pt/C. The Pd-Cu/ Vulcan catalyst also exhibited high stability during a short-term, in-situ AEMFC durability test, with only around 11% performance loss after 30 hours of operation, an improve- ment over most AEMFCs reported in the literature to date.

Factors Affecting the Outlook for Medium-term to Long-term Growth in China

China achieved average GDP growth of nearly 10 percent over the period 1978-2015. However, how long can such high levels of growth be sustained, especially when per capita GDP levels have reached middle-income status, and the normal tendency of economies is to slow down as they mature？ This paper reviews the recent literature on the determinants and outlook for real GDP growth in China and addresses some of the key issues, including identifying supply-side factors that can support continued strong growth under favorable conditions, as well as risk factors that might cause growth to fall short. The paper reviews supply-side determinants of growth using a growth accounting framework, and also assesses maj.r demand-side factors driving potential growth, including exports, capital formation and household consumption.

Rheology Study of Suspension Formed by Different Nano-size Y-TZP

The rheological properties of slurries formed by different nano-size Y-TZP have been studied. The viscosity is sensitive to solid loading especially for high solid content level. The dispersant NH(4)PAA can improve the flowability efficiently. The smaller ceramic particles need to adsorb more dispersant to the flowability. Under the same solid content, the smaller the particles, the higher the viscosity of its slurry.

Nickel-coated silicon photocathode for water splitting in alkaline electrolytes

Photoelectrochemical （PEC） water splitting is a promising approach to harvest and store sola. energy [1]. Silicon has been widely investigated for PEC photoelectrodes due to its suitable band gap （1.12 eV） matching the sola. spectrum [2]. Here we investigate employing nickel both as a catalyst and protecting la.er of a p-type silicon photocathode for photoelectrochemical hydrogen evolution in basic electrolytes for the first time. The silicon photocathode was made by depositing 15 nm Ti on a p-type silicon wafer followed by 5 nm Ni. The photocathode afforded an onset potential of -0.3 V vs. the reversible hydrogen electrode （RHE） in alkaline solution （1 M KOH）. The stability of the Ni/Ti/p-Si photocathode showed a 100 mV decay over 12 h in KOH, but the stability was significantly improved when the photocathode was operated in potassium borate buffer solution （pH ≈ 9.5）. The electrode surface was found to remain intact after 12 h of continuous operation at a constant current density of 10 mA/cm^2 in potassium borate buffer, suggesting that Ni affords good protection of Si based photocathodes in borate buffers.

Developing a flexible,light-weight and effective electromagnetic(EM)absorber remains challenging despite being on increasing demand as more wearable devices and portable electronics are ***,we report a flexible and lightweight hybrid paper by a facile vacuumfiltration-induced self-assembly process,in which cotton-derived carbon fibers serve as flexible skeletons,compactly surrounded by other microwave-attenuating components(reduced graphene oxide and Fe3O4@C nanowires).Owing to its unique architecture and synergy of the three components,the asprepared hybrid paper exhibits flexible and lightweight features as well as superb microwave absorption *** absorption intensity with reflection loss as low as-63 dB can be achieved,and its broadest frequency absorption bandwidth of 5.8 GHz almost covers the entire Ku *** a hybrid paper is promising to cope with ever-increasing EM *** work also paves the way to develop low-cost and flexible EM wave absorber from biomass through a facile method.
