Utilizing a metal-forging inspired chain combing strategy to enhance properties and expand applications of Nylon 66 plastic via heat inducing

The mechanical properties of engineering plastics can be enhanced through effective surface mechanical treatment(SMT),which can be applied to various types of engineering plastics,eliminating the limitations of conventional polymer processing and could potentially extend their applications and improve their performance and reliability as structural-functional materials.Inspired by metal forging,this work proposes a simple and effective SMT strategy to enhance the mechanical properties of polyamide 66(PA66).Tensile tests have shown that SMTed PA66 samples exhibit significant improvements in both Young’s modulus and ultimate tensile strength(UTS),with a 2104 MPa Young’s modulus,almost double that of the pristine samples,and a 35.56%increase in UTS,reaching 183 MPa.Additionally,the modulus within the localized SMTed surface layer could reach up to 14 GPa,which is approximately 14 times higher than that of the pristine sample.The Vickers hardness within the localized SMTed surface layer can be doubled,reaching 10.72 Hv,and the crystallinity can increase by approximately 20%compared to the untreated region.Furthermore,force field molecular dynamics(FFMD)simulations were conducted to investigate the ternary relationship between the SMT method,PA66’s molecular structure,and its properties.The combination of MD simulations and versatile structural characterizations provides evidence that the SMT method’s mechanism,under heat induction,results in a chain-combing procedure that changes the polymer’s molecular morphology microscopically and enhances its mechanical properties macroscopically.

Retrospective Case Series on The Enduring Rotational Stability of The AcrySof IQ Toric Intraocular Lens in Cataract Patients Suffering from Myopia

Objective:To analyze the enduring rotational steadiness of AcrySof IQ Toric intraocular lens(IOL)in cataract patients suffering from myopia in a long-term study.Methods:A retrospective study was conducted on a case series involving 78 patients.A total of 120 eyes with an axial length(AL)ranging from 24-30 mm and corneal astigmatism≥1.50 D underwent implantation of AcrySof IQ Toric IOL guided by the version navigation system.The eyes were divided into two groups based on AL.Group A included 60 eyes with high myopia(AL≥26 mm),while Group B consisted of eyes with low to moderate myopia(24 mm≤AL0.05).The percentage of rotation degrees under 5°was recorded as 98.22%.After the procedure,the BCDVA was 0.1322±0.03 LogMAR.There was a substantial increase in theχvalue after the operation as compared to the pre-operativeχ^(2) value(χ^(2)=76.79).The standard deviation of preoperative corneal astigmatism was statistically significant(P<0.05)at 2.17±1.08 D.Following the surgical procedure,the remaining astigmatism was measured at 0.41±0.26 D.The data showed a notable gap in statistical significance(t=4.281,P<0.05).Conclusion:The AcrySof Toric IOL was a reliable solution for managing corneal astigmatism in cataract patients with myopia,demonstrating excellent long-term rotationa

Inhibition of Defect-Induced Ice Nucleation, Propagation, and Adhesion by Bioinspired Self-Healing Anti-Icing Coatings

Anti-icing coatings on outdoor infrastructures inevitably suffer from mechanical injuries in numerous icing scenarios such as hailstorms,sandstorms,impacts of foreign objects,and icing–deicing cycles.Herein,the mechanisms of surface-defect-induced icing are clarified.At the defects,water molecules exhibit stronger adsorption and the heat transfer rate increases,accelerating the condensation of water vapor as well as ice nucleation and propagation.Moreover,the ice–defect interlocking structure increases the ice adhesion strength.Thus,a self-healing(at−20℃)antifreeze-protein(AFP)-inspired anti-icing coating is developed.The coating is based on a design that mimics the ice-binding and non-ice-binding sites in AFPs.It enables the coating to markedly inhibit ice nucleation(nucleation temperature<−29.4℃),prevent ice propagation(propagation rate<0.00048 cm^(2)/s),and reduce ice adhesion on the surface(adhesion strength<38.9 kPa).More importantly,the coating can also autonomously self-heal at−20℃,as a result of multiple dynamic bonds in its structure,to inhibit defect-induced icing processes.The healed coating sustains high anti-icing and deicing performance even under various extreme conditions.This work reveals the in-depth mechanism of defect-induced ice formation as well as adhesion,and proposes a self-healing anti-icing coating for outdoor infrastructures.

This paper presents a comprehensive study on the model predictive control(MPC)of doubly fed induction generators(DFIG)in wind energy conversion systems(WECS);in particular the MPC of the rotor side converter.The general principle of prevalent MPC strategies is discussed to introduce the theoretical framework in the first place.Furthermore,mainstream and high-performance MPC methods of DFIGs have been identified as model predictive current control(MPCC),model predictive torque control(MPTC),and model predictive power control(MPPC).Starting from analyzing dynamic models,these MPC strategies are investigated in terms of operating principles and technical developments.The paper further investigates implementation of MPC strategies in unbalanced grids.Based on the quantitative and qualitative analysis of several case studies,performance of various MPC schemes is compared and their special features are identified.Guidelines for designing MPC strategies of DFIGs in WECS are provided.

Enhancing Geological Understanding and Identifying Gold Anomalies in the Ailaoshan Orogen

The Ailaoshan Orogen in the southeastern Tibet Plateau,situated between the yangtze and Simao blocks,underwent a complex structural,magmatic,and metamorphic evolution resulting in different tectonic subzones with varying structural lineaments and elemental concentrations.These elements can conceal or reduce anomalies due to the mutual effect between different anomaly areas.Dividing the whole zone into subzones based on tectonic settings,ore cluster areas,or sample catchment basins(Scb),geochemical and structural anomalies associated with gold(Au)mineralization have been identified utilizing mean plus twice standard deviations(Mean+2STD),factor analysis(FA),concentration-area(CA)modeling of stream sediment geochemical data,and lineament density in both the Ailaoshan Orogen and the individual subzones.The FA in the divided 98 Scbs with 6 Scbs containing Au deposits can roughly ascertain unknown rock types,identify specific element associations of known rocks and discern the porphyry or skarn-type Au mineralization.Compared with methods of Mean+2STD and C-A model of data in the whole orogen,which mistake the anomalies as background or act the background as anomalies,the combined methods of FA and C-A in the separate subzones or Scbs works well in regional metallogenic potential analysis.Mapping of lineament densities with a 10-km circle diameter is not suitable to locate Au deposits because of the delineated large areas of medium-high lineament density.In contrast,the use of circle diameters of 1.3 km or 1.7 km in the ore cluster scale delineates areas with a higher concentration of lineament density,consistent with the locations of known Au deposits.By analyzing the map of faults and Au anomalies,two potential prospecting targets,Scbs 1 and 63 with a sandstone as a potential host rock for Au,have been identified in the Ailaoshan Orogen.The use of combined methods in the divided subzones proved to be more effective in improving geological understanding and identifying mineralization anomalies associated with Au,rath

Drug-loading ZIF-8 for modification of microporous bone scaffold to promote vascularized bone regeneration

Surface modification of microporous bone scaffolds using nanoparticles has been broadly studied in bone tissue engineering.Aiming at improving vascularized bone regeneration(VBR),zeolitic imidazolate framework-8(ZIF-8)was encapsulated with dimethyloxallyl glycine(DMOG)and the drug-carrying nanoparticles(D@Z)could be uniformly coated onto the surface of the bone scaffold.The osteogenic and angiogenic actions of D@Z are closely correlated with the amount of slowly released DMOG,and in general,exhibited a favorable association.Then,the D7.5@Z group,which showed the greatest capacity to induce in vitro osteogenesis-angiogenesis coupling,was utilized for surface modification of the bone scaffold.Biological processes including phosphate-containing compound metabolic process,cell differentiation,cell proliferation and cell motility might contribute to enhanced ability to induce VBR by the coated scaffold and signaling pathways such as Rap1,Ras,phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase/protein kinase B(PI3K-AKT)and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)signaling pathways participated in these processes.Finally,as depicted by in vitro real time-polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR),Western blot(WB)and in vivo cranial bone defect model,the microporous scaffold coated with nano-D7.5@Z greatly promoted VBR.To conclude,nano-D@Z has significant promise for practical application in modification of microporous bone scaffolds to enhance VBR,and DMOG loading quantity has a beneficial influence on D@Z to improve osteogenesis-angiogenesis coupling.

Stationary Almost Markov ε-Equilibria for Discounted Stochastic Games with Borel Spaces and Unbounded Payoffs

This paper is concerned with nonzero-sum discrete-time stochastic games in Borel state and action spaces under the expected discounted payoff criterion. The payoff function can be unbounded.The transition probability is a convex combination of finite probability measures that are dominated by a probability measure on the state space and depend on the state variable. Under suitable conditions,the authors establish the existence of stationary almost Markov ε-equilibria and give an approximation method via some stochastic games with bounded payoffs. Finally, a production game is introduced to illustrate the applications of the main result, which generalizes the bounded payoff case.

Effect of End Shape on Flow and Heat Transfer Characteristics of Two Parallel Plates

Flow around a pair of flat plates is a basic hydrodynamics problem.In this paper,the flow and heat transfer characteristics of two parallel plates with different edge shapes are numerically calculated.Under different inclined angles,the influence of chamfered and rounded structures with different sizes at the end-edge on unsteady flow and heat transfer characteristics of two parallel plates are analyzed.It is found that the instability and unsteadiness of flow decrease with the increase of end-edge size,and the non-uniformity of wake velocity of both rounded and chamfered plates decreases gradually.The non-uniformity of wake temperature increases firstly and then decreases at a small inclined angle,and the amplitude becomes the largest when S_(rou)(S_(cha))=3,while it basically keeps monotonically increasing at a large inclined angle.Moreover,the global heat transfer performance of the flat plate is obviously affected by the end-edge modification,especially the chamfered structure.With the increase of chamfered size,the global Nusselt number basically shows the decreasing trend.This study provides a theoretical basis for the application of plate-shape structure in engineering fields.

From the perspective of experimental practice: High-throughput computational screening in photocatalysis

Photocatalysis,a critical strategy for harvesting sunlight to address energy demand and environmental concerns,is underpinned by the discovery of high-performance photocatalysts,thereby how to design photocatalysts is now generating widespread interest in boosting the conversion efﬁ-ciency of solar energy.In the past decade,computational technologies and theoretical simulations have led to a major leap in the development of high-throughput computational screening strategies for novel high-efﬁciency photocatalysts.In this viewpoint,we started with introducing the challenges of photocatalysis from the view of experimental practice,especially the inefﬁciency of the traditional“trial and error”method.Sub-sequently,a cross-sectional comparison between experimental and high-throughput computational screening for photocatalysis is presented and discussed in detail.On the basis of the current experimental progress in photocatalysis,we also exempliﬁed the various challenges associated with high-throughput computational screening strategies.Finally,we offered a preferred high-throughput computational screening procedure for pho-tocatalysts from an experimental practice perspective(model construction and screening,standardized experiments,assessment and revision),with the aim of a better correlation of high-throughput simulations and experimental practices,motivating to search for better descriptors.

Reheat effect on the improvement in efficiency of the turbine driven by pulse detonation

Due to the strong unsteadiness of pulse detonation,large flow losses are generated when the detonation wave interacts with the turbine blades,resulting in low turbine efficiency.Considering that the flow losses are dissipated into the gas as heat energy,some of them can be recycled during the expansion process in subsequent stages by the reheat effect,which should be helpful to improve the detonationdriven turbine efficiency.Taking this into account,this paper developed a numerical model of the detonation chamber coupled with a two-stage axial turbine,and a stoichiometric hydrogen-air mixture was used.The improvement in turbine efficiency attributable to the reheat effect was calculated by comparing the average efficiency of the stages with the efficiency of the two-stage turbine.The research indicated that the first stage was critical in suppressing the flow unsteadiness caused by pulse detonation,which stabilized the intake condition of the second stage and consequently allowed much of the flow losses from the first stage to be recycled,so that the efficiency of the two-stage turbine was improved.At a 95%confidence level,the efficiency improvement was stable at 4.5%—5.3%,demonstrating that the reheat effect is significant in improving the efficiency of the detonation-driven turbine.
