Theoretical models and experimental determination methods for equations of state of silicate melts: A review

Silicate melts are very active in the interior of the Earth and other terrestrial planets, and are important carriers for the transport of material and energy. The determination of the equation of state(EOS) for silicate melts and the acquisition of a precise quantitative relationship between molar volume(or density) and temperature, pressure, and composition is essential for simulating the generation, migration, and eruption processes of magmas and the evolution of the magma ocean stage during the early formation of the Earth and other terrestrial planets, for calculating and modeling the phase equilibria involving silicate melts, and for revealing the variation of the microstructure of silicate melts with pressure. However, it is experimentally challenging to determine the volumetric properties of silicate melts and the accumulated density data at high pressure are still very limited due to a series of problems such as: the high liquidus temperature of silicate rocks; proneness for silicate melts to react with sample capsules to change the melt composition; and proneness for melts to flow and leak during the high pressure and high temperature experiments. In recent years, there is rapid progress in the high pressure and high temperature experimental techniques, in terms of not only the extension of temperature and pressure ranges but also the improvement on the accuracy of measurements, and the emergence of new methods for in-situ measurements. Here, we review the widely-used theoretical models of ambient-pressure and high-pressure EOS for silicate melts, and illustrate some problems that need to be solved urgently:(1) the room pressure EOS for iron-and titanium-bearing silicate melts needs to be improved;(2) the partial molar properties of the H2 O and CO2 components in silicate melts containing volatile components may vary markedly with the melt composition, which need to be addressed in high-pressure EOS;(3) how the formulation and applicable range of EOS corre

采用人工检测的石榴外观品质等级分级方法存在准确率和效率低的问题,提出一种基于机器视觉的石榴品质分级方法。首先,采用机器视觉系统采集石榴样本图像,进行去噪处理与获取掩模图像;其次,提取去噪图像的红、绿、蓝分量,用蓝色分量减去红、绿色分量得到色差图像,并对色差图像进行阈值分割;然后,对分割图像采用数学形态学处理获得连通的疑似缺陷区域的边界,提取纹理特征并根据缺陷与非缺陷区域纹理特征的不同来标记缺陷区域;最后,将缺陷面积与总面积之比和缺陷数目作为划分等级的依据,对石榴品质等级进行划分。试验结果表明:本方法总体分级准确率达到92.9%,能够高效、准确地识别石榴表面缺陷并进行品质分级,为实现自动分级的产业化提供思路。

Marine dispersion of Fukushima-derived radiocesium in the North Pacific and its implications

A key scientific approach to addressing the environmental radiation risks from Fukushima nuclear contaminated water(FNCW) discharge into the ocean is understanding and predicting the marine dispersion of *** dispersion of radiocesium(CsF:134Cs,137Cs) from the Fukushima nuclear accident in the North Pacific and its marginal seas post-2011 was systematically summarized,focusing on pathways,vertical distribution changes,and transit *** research examined CsFdispersion through the Kuroshio Extension and denser central mode water(D-CMW) to the eastern North Pacific,as well as through subtropical mode water(STMW),lighter central mode water(L-CMW),and D-CMW to the subtropical western North Pacific,China Seas,and Sea of *** considered broader implications of CsFdispersion in light of ongoing FNCW *** this prolonged liquid discharge and Kuroshio Extension’s barrier effect,it is crucial to emphasize the role of CMW besides STMW in transporting FNCW to the subtropical western North Pacific and its marginal *** research should focus on the key mechanism and longitude range of CMW crossing the Kuroshio *** short-lived134Cs decays rapidly during the storage and dispersion of FNCW,long-lived135Cs and135Cs/137Cs ratios can serve as valuable tracers for detecting and quantifying ***,there is an urgent need for high-precision analysis of these key radionuclides and their characteristic *** promptly detect,assess,and respond to FNCW intrusion,continuous monitoring and identification of nuclear pollution sources in key ocean currents and straits are ***,interdisciplinary research integrating monitoring with marginal sea circulation dynamics and high-resolution numerical simulations should be a priority.

Molecular dynamics simulation of quartz deformation under slow earthquake background

Slow earthquakes are the primary mechanism of slow energy release,and research on the focal mechanism has been *** have primarily focused on the friction law based on physical mechanisms and have suggested that slow earthquakes are caused by brittle ***,the focal strength and structural characteristics of slow earthquakes in subduction zones provide evidence of plastic *** is the role of plastic deformation in the focal mechanisms of slow earthquakes?Mechanochemical study have shown that mechanical forces can directly affect chemical *** this study,we examine the storage and release of chemical energy during plastic deformation and consider a mechanochemical process in the focal mechanism of slow *** with the Tersoff potential,molecular dynamics simulation on the shear deformation process of twoα-quartz crystals show that the shear modulus ofα-quartz is 18 GPa,and that the crystal model primarily exhibits atoms flowing and changing in the direction of chemical bonds during the steady-state flow *** molecular potential energy and stress vary in an oscillating up-and-down curve during shear,indicating that chemical energy can be stored and released during plastic *** is consistent with the energy variation during slow *** the initial simple-shear loading condition,α-quartz crystals undergo general shear deformation instead of plane strain and the angle between the longest instantaneous stretching axis(ISA_(1))and the shearing direction is approximately 30°,not 45°.Both the deformation type and direction of ISA_(1)are contrary to basic deformation theory,which may provide clues for future *** study reveals the process of quartz elastic-plastic shear deformation on an atomic *** information is useful for understanding focal mechanisms of slow *** study is part of a series of investigations on tectonic stress chemistry.

Multi-layer multi-pass friction rolling additive manufacturing of Al alloy:Toward complex large-scale high-performance components

At present,the emerging solid-phase friction-based additive manufacturing technology,including friction rolling additive man-ufacturing(FRAM),can only manufacture simple single-pass *** this study,multi-layer multi-pass FRAM-deposited alumin-um alloy samples were successfully prepared using a non-shoulder tool *** material flow behavior and microstructure of the over-lapped zone between adjacent layers and passes during multi-layer multi-pass FRAM deposition were studied using the hybrid 6061 and 5052 aluminum *** results showed that a mechanical interlocking structure was formed between the adjacent layers and the adja-cent passes in the overlapped center *** friction and rolling of the tool head led to different degrees of lateral flow and plastic deformation of the materials in the overlapped zone,which made the recrystallization degree in the left and right edge zones of the over-lapped zone the highest,followed by the overlapped center zone and the non-overlapped *** tensile strength of the overlapped zone exceeded 90%of that of the single-pass deposition *** is proved that although there are uneven grooves on the surface of the over-lapping area during multi-layer and multi-pass deposition,they can be filled by the flow of materials during the deposition of the next lay-er,thus ensuring the dense microstructure and excellent mechanical properties of the overlapping *** multi-layer multi-pass FRAM deposition overcomes the limitation of deposition width and lays the foundation for the future deposition of large-scale high-performance components.
