AIM:To investigate the capacity for 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose(18F-FDG) positron emission tomography(PET) to evaluate patients with gastrointestinal lesions of follicular ***:This retrospective case series consisted of 41 patients with follicular lymphoma and gastrointestinal involvement who underwent 18F-FDG-PET and endoscopic evaluations at ten different institutions between November 1996 and October *** for endoscopic,radiological,and biological examinations performed were retrospectively reviewed from clinical records.A semi-quantitative analysis of 18F-FDG uptake was performed for each involved area by calculating the maximum standardized uptake value(SUVmax).Based on the positivity of 18F-FDG uptake in the gastrointestinal lesions analyzed,patients were subdivided into two *** identify potential predictive factors for 18F-FDG positivity,these two groups were compared with respect to gender,age at diagnosis of lymphoma,histopathological grade,pattern of follicular dendritic cells,mitotic rate,clinical stage,soluble interleukin-2 receptor levels detected by 18F-FDG-PET,lactate dehydrogenase(LDH) levels,hemoglobin levels,bone marrow involvement,detectability of gastrointestinal lesions by computed tomography(CT) scanning,and follicular lymphoma international prognostic index(FLIPI) ***:Involvement of follicular lymphoma in the stomach,duodenum,jejunum,ileum,cecum,colon,and rectum was identified in 1,34,6,3,2,3,and 6 patients,*** patient had esophageal *** total,19/41(46.3%) patients exhibited true-positive 18F-FDG uptake in the lesions present in their gastrointestinal *** contrast,false-negative 18F-FDG uptake was detected in 24 patients(58.5%),while false-positive 18F-FDG uptake was detected in 5 patients(12.2%).In the former case,2/19 patients had both 18F-FDG-positive lesions and 18F-FDGnegative lesions in the gastrointestinal *** patients with 18F-FDG avidity,the SUVmax value of the involved gast

Aerosol pollution in China:Present and future impact on environment

With its dense population, rapid economic growth and dramatic rate of urbanization, China is experiencing extreme air pollution problems. This is particularly the case in Central-Eastern China （CEC）, where the two major cities of Beijing and Tianjin are located, in the Yangtze-River Delta （YRD） with the city of Shanghai, and in the Pearl-River Delta （PRD） with the mega-city of Gnangzhou. Space observations show that the atmospheric aerosol load in these three regions is considerably higher than, for example, in the urbanized regions of Europe and North America. The high aerosol concentrations in these regions have raised many environmental problems, such as impact on human health, visibility, and climate changes. In this paper, several crucial issues regarding aerosol pollution in these highly populated regions （CEC, YRD, and PRD） are discussed, including （1） when the aerosol load starts to rapidly increase in these regions; （2） how the high aerosol concentrations affects the environment; and （3） what the potential consequences are under possible low aerosol load in these regions. Discussion on these crucial issues might lead to some insight for better understanding of the characterizations of aerosol pollution due to the rapid economical development in China.

Compact THz radiation source based on photocathode RF gun

Terahertz (THz) science and technology have already become the research highlight at present. In this paper, we put forward a proposal to generate THz radiation at tens of MW peak power. As a result of the ultrafast laser and the high accelerating field of photocathode RF gun, we can generate and accelerate an electron beam to several MeV, of which the bunch length is less than sub-ps. When the short electron bunches are injected into the wiggler, THz radiation based on Coherent Synchrotron Radiation could be achieved with tens of MW peak power. The whole THz FEL facility can be scaled to the size of a tabletop.

The relationship between formate adsorption energy and electronic properties: A first principles density functional theory study

First principles density functional theory calculations have been performed for the chemisorption of formate adsorption on some metal surfaces. For the most stable adsorption site of short-bridge, the calculated formate adsorption energy follows the order of Au(110) < Ag(110) < Cu(110) < Pd(110) < Pt(110) < Ni(110) < Rh(110) < Fe(100) < Mo(100), and a clear linear correlation exists between the adsorption energy and the corresponding heat of formation of metal oxides. Moreover, it has been found that the formate adsorption energy for the transition metals can be correlated well with its d-band center (εd), and the IB Group metals can be described by the coupling matrix element square (Vad2).

EFFECTS OF UNDERSCOUR DEPTH AND HORIZONTAL SPACING BETWEEN TWO BED PROTECTION BLOCKS ON STABILITY OF FRONTAL BLOCK

The stability of a river-bed protection block in a flood event is affected by underscouring of the block. The effects of block spacing on block stability were investigated in different underscour conditions. Three blocks were placed at the bottom in a flume, and the underscour depth of the frontal block and distance between the first and second blocks were changed. Drag and lift forces were measured directly in each experimental condition. Particle Image Velocimetry （PIV） was used to visualize the flow and eva- luate the streamline pattern. Pressure measurements around the block to understand the pressure distribution show that the pressure distribution on the rear and bottom surfaces of the block is significantly affected by changes in block spacing and underscour depth. The experimental results show that for the same underscour gap, lift, and drag coefficients decreased with increasing space between the two blocks. In addition, if the underscour gap is increased with the same horizontal spacing, the lift coefficient increases and drag coefficient decreases. These results demonstrate that wider spacing enhance stability of the frontal block in the underscour condition. Moreover, analysis of block stability with changing underscouring and horizontal spacing shows that bed protection blocks seem to have more stability when the gap between two bed protection blocks was equal to height of the blocks.

Periapsis shift in spherically symmetric spacetimes and effects of electric interactions

Visual Person Identification Using a Distance-dependent Appearance Model for a Person Following Robot

This paper describes a person identifcation method for a mobile robot which performs specifc person following under dynamic complicated environments like a school canteen where many persons *** propose a distance-dependent appearance model which is based on scale-invariant feature transform（SIFT） *** is a powerful image feature that is invariant to scale and rotation in the image plane and also robust to changes of lighting ***,the feature is weak against afne transformations and the identifcation power will thus be degraded when the pose of a person changes *** therefore use a set of images taken from various directions to cope with pose ***,the number of SIFT feature matches between the model and an input image will decrease as the person becomes farther away from the ***,we also use a distance-dependent *** person following experiment was conducted using an actual mobile robot,and the quality assessment of person identifcation was performed.

An analytical solution for the population balance equation using a moment method

Brownian coagulation is the most important inter-particle mechanism affecting the size distribution of aerosols. Analytical solutions to the governing population balance equation （PBE） remain a challenging issue. In this work, we develop an analytical model to solve the PBE under Brownian coagulation based on the Taylor-expansion method of moments. The proposed model has a clear advantage over conventional asymptotic models in both precision and efficiency. We first analyze the geometric standard deviation （GSD） of aerosol size distribution. The new model is then implemented to determine two analytic solu- tions, one with a varying GSD and the other with a constant GSD, The varying solution traces the evolution of the size distribution, whereas the constant case admits a decoupled solution for the zero and second moments, Both solutions are confirmed to have the same precision as the highly reliable numerical model, implemented by the fourth-order Runge-Kutta algorithm, and the analytic model requires significantly less computational time than the numerical approach. Our results suggest that the proposed model has great potential to replace the existing numerical model, and is thus recommended for the study of physical aerosol characteristics, especially for rapid predictions of haze formation and evolution,

Universal time delay in static spherically symmetric spacetimes for null and timelike signals

A perturbative method of computing the total travel time of both null and lightlike rays in arbitrary static spherically symmetric spacetimes in the weak field limit is *** resultant total time takes a quasi-series form of the impact *** coefficient of this series at a certain order n is shown to be determined by the asymptotic expansion of the metric functions to the order n+*** the leading order(s),the time delay,as well as the difference between the time delays of two types of relativistic signals,is shown to take a universal form for all SSS *** universal form depends on the mass M and a post-Newtonian parameter γ of the *** analytical result is numerically verified using the central black hole of galaxy M87 as the gravitational lensing center.
