Aim:To observe neuroprotective effects of raw and roasted licorice against hy-poxia and ischemic ***:When elucidating the protective effects ofraw and roasted licorice,we analyzed the lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) releaseusing PC12 cells after hypoxia in an in vitro study and after transient forebrainischemia in an in vivo study on Mongolian ***:Raw and roastedlicorice significantly reduced LDH release from PC12 cells exposed to an hypoxicchamber for *** the roasted licorice-treated group,the decrease of LDH releasewas more pronounced compared to that of the raw licorice-treated *** licorice-treated animals,approximately 66%-71% of CA1 pyramidal cellsin the ischemic hippocampus were stained with cresyl violet compared to thecontrol ***,in the raw licorice-treated animals,no significantneuroprotection against ischemic damage was *** addition,ischemic ani-mals in roasted licorice-treated group maintained the Cu,Zn-superoxide dismutase(SOD1) activity and protein levels compared to the control group,while in rawlicorice-treated group SOD1 activity and protein levels were reduced *** pressure liquid chromatography analysis showed that non-polar compoundscontaining glycyrrhizin-degraded products,such as glycyrrhetinic acid (GA) andglycyrrhetinic acid monoglucuronide (GM),were increased in roasted ***:Roasted licorice had neuroprotective effects against ischemic dam-age by maintaining the SOD1 *** addition,the difference in protectiveability between raw and roasted licorice may be associated with non-polarcompounds,such as GA and GM.

Development of hyaluronic acid-based edible film for alleviating dry mouth

For alleviating dry mouth symptoms,edible films based on hyaluronic acid(HA)with 3 different m(800,1200 and 2300 kDa)were prepared(800 F,1200 F and 2300 F,respectively),and the properties as well as effectiveness were *** concentration of each HA dispersion for film forming was set as 3.0%,1.5%or 1.0%,for the m800,1200 and 2300 kDa,respectively,based on the *** 800 F showed the highest thickness,tensile strength,and water vapor transparency,whereas obtained the lowest transparency and elongation at break among *** of the HA films showed safety against microorganism during 28 storage day at 40℃with 60%*** optimum site for film attachment in mouth was the palate,and800 F was the most effective for stimulating saliva secretion,eliciting a 38%increase compared to control(without film),tested by the elderly over 65 years *** the sensory test,800 F was also the most *** on above results,the edible films effectively stimulating saliva secretion could be produced with HA,and the physical,sensory characteristics as well as disintegration times of the film could be controlled by mand the dissolution concentration of HA.

Bifurcation Analysis of the Voltage Controlled Photosensitive Chaotic Oscillator

A photosensitive chaotic oscillator which can be controlled with light illumination under various control voltage levels is *** oscillator consists of a photodiode for the light input,clock switches and capacitors for the sample and hold function,a nonlinear function that creates an adjustable chaos map,and a voltage shifter that adjusts the output voltage for *** optimizing the photodiode sub-circuit by using an available photodiode model in PC-based simulation program with integrated circuit emphasis to obtain a suitable output,the full chaotic circuit is verified with standard 0.6-μm complementary metal oxide semiconductor *** dynamics are analyzed as a function of the light intensity under different control voltage *** time series,frequency spectra,transitions in state spaces,bifurcation diagrams and the largest Lyapunov exponent are improved.

CoolVox:Advanced 3D convolutional neural network models for predicting solar radiation on building facades

Data-driven models have become increasingly prominent in the building,architecture,and construction *** area ideally suited to exploit this powerful new technology is building performance ***-based models have traditionally been used to estimate the energy flow,air movement,and heat balance of ***,physics-based models require many assumptions,significant computational power,and a considerable amount of time to output *** neural networks(ANNs)with prefabricated or simulated data are likely to be a more feasible option for environmental analysis conducted by designers during the early design *** ANNs require fewer inputs and shorter computation times and offer superior performance and potential for data augmentation,they have received increased attention for predicting the surface solar radiation on ***,ANNs can provide innovative and quick design solutions,enabling designers to receive instantaneous feedback on the effects of a proposed change to a building's *** research introduces deep learning methods as a means of simulating the annual radiation intensities and exposure level of buildings without the need for physics-based *** propose the CoolVox model to demonstrate the feasibility of using 3D convolutional neural networks to predict the surface radiation on building *** CoolVox model accurately predicted the radiation intensities of building facades under different boundary conditions and performed better than ARINet(with average mean square errors of 0.01 and 0.036,respectively)in predicting the radiation intensity both with(validation error=0.0165)and without(validation error=0.0066)the presence of boundary buildings.

Magnetism in two-dimensional(2D)van der Waals(vdW)materials has lately attracted considerable attention from the point of view of both fundamental science and device ***,establishing a detailed and solid understanding of their magnetism is the key first step toward various *** Fe_(3)GeTe_(2)is a representative ferromagnetic(FM)metal in this family,many aspects of its magnetic and electronic behaviors still remain ***,we report our new finding that Fe_(3)GeTe_(2)is a special type of correlated metal known as“Hund metal”.Furthermore,we demonstrate that Hund metallicity in this material is quite unique by exhibiting remarkable site dependence of Hund correlation strength,hereby dubbed“site-differentiated Hund metal”.Within this new picture,many of the previous experiments can be clearly understood,including the ones that were seemingly contradictory to one another.

Metadynamics sampling in atomic environment space for collecting training data for machine learning potentials

The universal mathematical form of machine-learning potentials(MLPs)shifts the core of development of interatomic potentials to collecting proper training ***,the training set should encompass diverse local atomic environments but conventional approaches are prone to sampling similar configurations repeatedly,mainly due to the Boltzmann *** such,practitioners handpick a large pool of distinct configurations manually,stretching the development period *** overcome this hurdle,methods are being proposed that automatically generate training ***,we suggest a sampling method optimized for gathering diverse yet relevant configurations *** is achieved by applying the metadynamics with the descriptor for the local atomic environment as a collective *** a result,the simulation is automatically steered toward unvisited local environment space such that each atom experiences diverse chemical environments without *** apply the proposed metadynamics sampling to H:Pt(111),GeTe,and Si *** these examples,a small number of metadynamics trajectories can provide reference structures necessary for training high-fidelity *** proposing a semiautomatic sampling method tuned for MLPs,the present work paves the way to wider applications of MLPs to many challenging applications.

Physicochemical and in-vitro release characteristics of vitamin C-loaded antioxidant orally disintegrating films with different catechin levels

To develop a convenient food formulation for supplying antioxidants,hyaluronic acid(HA)-based orally dis-integrating film(ODF)containing vitamin C(Vit C)and catechin(CAT)with various molar ratios(Vit C:CAT,1:0,1:0.2,1:0.4,1:0.6,1:0.8 and 1:1.0,by name of CAT0,CAT0.2,CAT0.4,CAT0.6,CAT0.8 and CAT1.0,respec-tively)were prepared,and the physico-chemical,and sensory properties of the films were *** addition,the release properties of the Vit C and CAT in the films were also *** the results,there was no sig-nificant difference in the moisture content among the films,but the thickness significantly increased with the CAT *** water vapor permeability(WVP)started decreasing at *** texture,the addition of CAT decreased tensile strength,and showed inverse relationship with film *** higher the CAT content was,the more brittle and fragile the texture obtained *** vitamin C content in the film significantly decreased as the CAT content increased,whereas the antioxidant effects continued to increase with CAT *** a sensory evaluation,CAT0.2 was the most preferred,followed by CAT0 and CAT0.4,and for those samples containing over 0.6 M ratio CAT,the acceptability dramatically *** on the above results,the most suitable molar ratio of Vit C:CAT was 1:*** a result of the analysis of the release pattern of the optimized ODF(CAT0.4),both Vit C and CAT exhibited rapid release of over 70%within 30 and 20 min,respectively,in all simulated body *** the prepared ODF can be considered as a suitable delivery formulation for convenient and fast-acting antioxidant.

This letter proposes a categorization matrix to analyze the playing style of a computer game player for a shooting game genre. Our aim is to use human-centered modeling as a strategy for adaptive games based on entertainment measure to evaluate the playing experience. We utilized a self-organizing map (SOM) to cluster the player's style with the data obtained while playing the game. We further argued that style-based adaptation contributes to higher enjoyment, and this is reflected in our experiment using a supervised multilayered perceptron (MLP) network.
