Although the essential role of messenger RnA methylation in the nucleus is increasingly understood,the nature of ribosomal RnA(rRnA)methyltransferases and the role of rRnA methylation in chloroplasts remain largely unknown.A recent study revealed that CmAL(for Chloroplast mraW-Like)is a chloroplast-localized rRnA methyltransferase that is responsible for n4-methylcytidine(m^(4)C)in 16S chloroplast rRnA in Arabidopsis *** this study,we further exam.ned the role of CmAL in chloroplast biogenesis and function,developm.nt,and horm.ne *** cmal mutant showed reduced chlorophyll biosynthesis,photosynthetic activity,and growth-defect phenotypes,including severely stunted stems,fewer siliques,and lower seed *** cmal mutant was hypersensitive to chloroplast translation inhibitors,such as lincomycin and erythromycin,indicating that the m^(4)C methylation defect in the 16S rRnA leads to a reduced translational activity in ***,the stunted stem of the cmal mutant was partially rescued by exogenous gibberellic acid or *** cmal mutant grew poorer than wild type,whereas the CmAL-overexpressing transgenic Arabidopsis plants grew better than wild type in the presence of abscisic ***,these results indicate that CmAL is an indispensable rRnA methyltransferase in chloroplasts and is crucial for chloroplast biogenesis and function,photosynthesis,and horm.ne response during plant growth and developm.nt.

Combination of Korean Red Ginseng Extract and Hydrogen-Rich Water Improves Spermatogenesis and Sperm motility in male mice

Objective: To investigate the effect of hydrogen-rich Korean Red Ginseng(KRG) water(HRGW) mixture on the spermatogenesis and sperm motility of mice of different ages. methods: Eighty young(3 m.nth-old) and aged(12 m.nth-old) male mice were randomly assigned to 4 groups(n=10 per group) including control group, hydrogen-rich water(HRW) group(10 m L/kg daily), KRG group(50 mg/kg daily) and HRGW group(10 m L/kg HRW and 50 mg/kg KRG daily) by an oral zoned needle for 4 weeks. Sperm count and motility were measured using sperm suspension released from cauda epididymis. Serum follicle stimulating horm.ne(FSH), luteinizing horm.ne(LH), testosterone, and reactive oxygen species(ROS) in serum have also been estimated. Tubular changes were exam.ned through histological hematoxylin and eosin staining. Expression of antioxidation(PPx3, PPx4, GSTm5 and GPx4), spermatogenesis(inhibin-α, neptin-2 and CREm), antiaging(SIRT1 and SIRT2), and angiogenesis [visfatin and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)] related genes were exam.ned through realtime polymerase chain reaction. Results: HRW and KRG treatm.nt stimulated spermatogenesis followed by increasing sperm production and sperm motility(Pngthened synergistically by a HRGW mixture(Pncreased the expressions of antioxidation, antiaging, spermatogenesis related genes and VEGF especially in aged mice(Pm testosterone and FSH levels also increased, while serum ROS level decreased(all Pnclusion: HRGW increases sperm production and motility by enhancing antioxidation and stimulating spermatogenesis and sex horm.ne production, particularly in aged mice.

Background There are numerous but conflicting data regarding gender differences in outcomes following percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI). Furthermore, gender differences in clinical outcomes with acute myocardial infarction(AmI) following PCI in Asian population remain uncertain because of the under-representation of Asian in previous trials. methods A total of 13,104 AmI patients from Korea Acute myocardial Infarction Registry-national Institute of Health(KAmIR-nIH) between november 2011 and December 2015 were classified into male(n = 8021, 75.9%) and female(n = 2547, 24.1%). We compared the demographic, clinical and angiographic characteristics, 30-days and 1-year major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events(mACCE) in wom.n with those in m.n after AmI by using propensity score(PS) matching. Results Compared with m.n, wom.n were older, had more comorbidities and more often presented with non-ST segm.nt elevation myocardial infarction(nSTEmI) and reduced left ventricular systolic function. Over the median follow-up of 363 days, gender differences in both 30-days and 1-year mACCE as well as thrombolysis in myocardial infarction m.nor bleeding risk were not observed in the PS matched population(30-days mACCE: 5.3% vs. 4.7%, log-rank P = 0.494, HR = 1.126, 95% CI: 0.800-1.585;1-year mACCE: 9.3% vs. 9.0%, log-rank P = 0.803, HR = 1.032, 95% CI: 0.802-1.328;TImI m.nor bleeding: 4.9% vs. 3.9%, log-rank P = 0.215, HR = 1.255, 95% CI: 0.869-1.814). Conclusions Am.ng Korean AmI population undergoing contemporary PCI, wom.n, as compared with m.n, had different clinical and angiographic characteristics but showed similar 30-days and 1-year clinical outcomes. The risk of bleeding after PCI was comparable between m.n and wom.n during one-year follow up.

We report on the structural transformation and unique magnetic properties of m.nganese nitrides prepared by nitriding mn under n_(2) pressures of up to 25 mPa with varying *** n_(2) pressure not only makes nitridation more efficient at lower temperatures,but also enhances the n-content in the nitride lattices,which were expanded with increasing *** n-rich nitrides,includingε-mn_(4)n,ζ-mn6n_(2).58 andη-mn_(3)n_(2),exhibit unique thermal *** n-richε-phase exhibits much larger coercivity and lower saturation magnetization in comparison with theε-phase prepared under ambient n_(2) *** coercivity of the n-richζ-phase reaches up to 45054 A/m.A saturation magnetization as large as 31 Am^(2)/kg is observed in the n-richη-*** are quite different from the conventional antiferromagneticζ-andη-phase obtained under ambient n_(2) *** ascribe the unconventional magnetic properties of the nitrides to the lattice distortion originating from the n-enrichm.nt.

Effects of Flower Buds Extract of Tussilago farfara on Focal Cerebral Ischemia in Rats and Inflammatory Response in BV2 microglia

Objective： To investigate the effects of the flower buds extract of Tussilago farfara Linné（Farfarae Flos; FF） on focal cerebral ischemia through regulation of inflammatory responses in activated microglia. methods： Brain ischemia was induced in Sprague-Dawley rats by a transient middle cerebral artery occlusion（t mCAO） for 90 m.n and reperfusion for 24 h. Twenty rats were randomly divided into 4 groups（n=5 per group）： normal, t mCAO-induced ischemic control, t mCAO plus FF extract 300 mg/kg-treated, and t mCAO plus mK-801 1 mg/kg-treated as reference drug. FF extract（300 mg/kg, p.o.） or mK-801（1 mg/kg, i.p.） was adm.nistered after reperfusion. Brain infarction was measured by 2,3,5,-triphenyltetrazolium chloride staining. neuronal damage was observed by haematoxylin eosin, nissl staining and imm.nohistochemistry using anti-neuronal nuclei（neu n）, anti-glial fibril ary acidic protein（GFAP）, and antiCD11 b/c（OX42） antibodies in ischemic brain. The expressions of inducible nitric oxide synthase（i nOS）, tumor necrosis factor（TnF-α）, and hypoxia-inducible factor-1 a（HIF-1α） were determ.ned by Western blot. BV2 microglial cel s were treated with FF extract or its main bioactive compound, tussilagone with or without lipopolysaccharide（LPS）. nitric oxide（nO） production was measured in culture medium by Griess assay. The expressions of i nOS, COX-2 and pro-inflammatory cytokines m.nA were analyzed by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction. The expression of i nOS, and COX-2 proteins, the phosphorylation of ERK1/2, JnK, and p38 mAPK and the nuclear expression of nF-κB p65 in BV2 cells were determ.ned by Western blot. Results： FF extract significantly decreased brain infarctions in ischemic rats（P〈0.01）. The neuronal death and the microglia/astrocytes activation in ischemic brains were inhibited by FF extract. Epitaxially grown Ⅲ-nitride alloys are tightly bonded materials with mixed covalent-ionic bonds. This tight bonding presents trem.ndous challenges in developing Ⅲ-nitride membranes, even though semiconductor membranes can provide numerous advantages by removing thick, inflexible, and costly substrates. Herein, cavities with various sizes were introduced by overgrowing target layers, such as undoped Gan and green LEDs, on nanoporous templates prepared by electrochemical etching of n-type Gan. The large primary interfacial toughness was effectively reduced according to the design of the cavity density, and the overgrown target layers were then conveniently exfoliated by engineering tensile-stressed ni layers. The resulting Ⅲ-nitride membranes maintained high crystal quality even after exfoliation due to the use of Gan-based nanoporous templates with the same lattice constant. The microcavity-assisted crack propagation process developed for the current Ⅲ-nitride membranes forms a universal process for developing various kinds of largescale and high-quality semiconductor membranes.
