Ammonia allows storage and transport of hydrogen over long distances and is an attractive potential hydrogen *** decomposition has recently been used for the conversion of ammonia to hydrogen and is regarded as a future technology for production of CO_(2)-free pure ***,a heterostructural Pt-Ir dual-layer electrode is developed and shown to achieve successful long-term operation in an ammonia electrolyzer with an anion exchange membrane(AEM).This electrolyzer consisted of eight membra ne electrode assemblies(MEAs)with a total geometric area of 200 cm~2 on the anode side,which resulted in a hydrogen production rate of 25 L h~(-1).We observed the degradation in MEA performance attributed to changes in the anode catalyst layer during hydrogen production via ammonia ***,we demonstrated the relationship between the ammonia oxidation reaction(AOR)and the oxygen evolution reaction(OER).

BACKGroUND Effective bowel cleansing is essential for a successful ***,such as polyethylene glycol,are commonly used for bowel *** is a frequent complication during bowel preparation,and forceful vomiting can potentially lead to esophageal perforation,as reported in several previous ***,pharyngeal perforation during bowel preparation has not been previously ***,we present a case of pharyngeal perforation induced by forceful vomiting during bowel *** SUMMARY A 38-year-old man with a history of hypertension,dyslipidemia,diabetes mellitus,and end-stage renal disease on hemodialysis was admitted for evaluation of recurrent abdominal *** patient complained of sudden pain in the neck,throat,and anterior chest following forceful vomiting during bowel *** examination revealed crepitus under the skin of the neck and anterior chest on palpation,and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed pharyngeal *** perforation site was located above the upper esophageal sphincter,which distinguished it from Boerhaave’s *** medical management was chosen after consultation with a thoracic surgeon and an otolaryngologist,considering the patient's mild symptoms,stable vital signs,and the small size of the lesion;the perforation resolved without endoscopic or surgical *** patient was discharged from hospital two weeks after the *** Despite its rarity,pharyngeal perforation should be considered a potential complication of bowel preparation for colonoscopy.

Oxygen vacancy engineering for tuning the catalytic activity of LaCoO_(3) perovskite

Herein, we attempted to engineer oxygen vacancies on the surface of LaCoO_(3) perovskite through simple post-treatments(acid or reductive thermal treatments). Acid treatment induces oxygen vacancies through the selective etching of the La cations, whereas thermal treatment in a reducing atmosphere generates oxygen vacancies by directly removing lattice oxygen. The characterization results confirm that the number of surface oxygen vacancies, which are crucial in various catalytic oxidation reactions,considerably increases in the LaCoO_(3) catalysts treated with acid or reducing gas. Acid treatment enriches the oxygen vacancies while maintaining the structure of the LaCoO_(3) catalysts, which can not be achieved through reductive thermal treatment. Therefore, the acid treatment is considered a promising technique for oxygen vacancy engineering of perovskite catalysts for tuning their catalytic activities. Furthermore,the catalytic activities of the posttreated LaCoO_(3) catalysts for CO oxidation were evaluated and are noted to be considerably better than those of the pristine LaCoO_(3) catalyst due to their abundant oxygen vacancies. Consequently, we conclude that the oxygen vacancies of perovskite catalysts can be effectively engineered via two simple methods and play a significant role in CO oxidation.

Cu catalysts can convert CO_(2) through an electrochemical reduction reaction into a variety of useful carbon-based ***,this capability provides an obstacle to increasing the selectivity for a single ***,we report a simple fabrication method for a Cu-Pd alloy catalyst for use in a membrane electrode assembly(MEA)-based CO_(2) electrolyzer for the electrochemical CO_(2) reduction reaction(ECRR)with high selectivity for CO *** the composition of the Cu-Pd alloy catalyst was fabricated at 6:4,the selectivity for CO increased and the production of multi-carbon compounds and hydrogen is *** a Cu-Pd alloy catalyst with 6:4 ratio as the cathode of the MEAbased CO_(2) electrolyzer showed a CO faradaic efficiency of 92.8%at 2.4 V_(cell).We assumed that these results contributed from the crystal planes on the surface of the Cu-Pd *** phases of the Cu-Pd alloy catalyst were partially separated through annealing to fabricate a catalyst with high selectivity for CO at low voltage and C_(2)H_4 at high *** results of CO-stripping testing confirmed that when Cu partially separates from the lattice of the Cu-Pd alloy,the desorption of~*CO is suppressed,suggesting that C-C coupling reaction is favored.

Heatwaves(HWs)present a major hazard to our society and more extreme heatwaves are expected with future climatic ***,it is important to improve our understanding of the underlying processes that drive HWs,in order to boost our socioeconomic-ecological *** this study,we quantified the influences of key driving factors(large-scale atmospheric circulation,soil moisture,and sea surface temperature)and their synergies on recent heatwaves in East *** conducted a factor separation analysis for three recent HW events by constraining the key factors in the regional Weather Research and Forecasting model with their climatologies or pseudo-observations in different *** study showed distinct spatial variations in the HW-controlling factors in East *** synergistic interaction of large-scale circulation and soil moisture was the most important factors in the 2013 Chinese *** the 2018 HWs in Korea and Japan,the same stagnant large-scale atmospheric circulation played a dominant role in driving the HW *** land-atmosphere coupling via soil moisture,its interaction with circulation,and SST exhibited stronger influences during the Korean HW than the Japanese *** analysis also revealed temporal variations in the factors driving Korean and Chinese HWs due to typhoon passage and other multiple processes over heterogeneous surfaces(i.e.,topographically induced Foehn winds,large-scale warm advection from the warm ocean,spatial differences in soil moisture).Our findings suggest that future heatwave-related studies should consider interactive contributions of key factors,their interplay with surface heterogeneities of complex terrain.

Plants are continuously exposed to numerous biotic stresses throughout their *** arms race-driven coevolution with pathogens,plants have developed sophisticated immune systems,including pathogen-associated molecular pattern(PAMP)-triggered immunity(PTI)and effector-triggered immunity(ETI).PTI is initiated by the binding of danger signals to extracellular membrane-localized receptors calledpattern recognition receptors(PRRs).PTI triggers responses,including reactive oxygen species(roS)bursts and the expression of defenseassociated ***,pathogens adapted to PTl secrete virulence proteins,effectors,to aid colonization,and ETl is then triggered by the recognition of these effectors by resistance proteins with a nucleotide-binding domain leucinerich repeat receptor(NLR).To circumvent this immune response,pathogens secrete various effectors into the host intracellular region and induce effector-triggered susceptibility(Zhou and Zhang.,2020).Currently,research on plant immunity has been primarily focused on plasma membrane and cytoplasmlocalized proteins,including oligomeric NLRs,resistosomes,and the secretion mechanisms of cytoplasmic effectors.

The functionalities and diverse metastable phases of multiferroic BiFeO3(BFO)thin films depend on the misfit *** mixed phase-induced strain relaxation in multiphase BFO thin films is well known,it is unclear whether a singlecrystalline BFO thin film can accommodate misfit strain without the involvement of its ***,understanding the strain relaxation behavior is key to elucidating the lattice strain–property *** this study,a correlative strain analysis based on dark-field inline electron holography(DIH)and quantitative scanning transmission electron microscopy(STEM)was performed to reveal the structural mechanism for strain accommodation of a single-crystalline BFO thin *** nanoscale DIH strain analysis results indicated a random combination of multiple strain states that acted as a primary strain relief,forming irregularly strained *** STEM-based bond length measurement of the corresponding strained nanodomains revealed a unique strain accommodation behavior achieved by a statistical combination of multiple modes of distorted structures on the unit-cell *** globally integrated strain for each nanodomain was estimated to be close to􀀀1.5%,irrespective of the nanoscale strain states,which was consistent with the fully strained BFO film on the SrTiO3 *** functional theory calculations suggested that strain accommodation by the combination of metastable phases was energetically favored compared to single-phase-mediated *** discovery allows a comprehensive understanding of strain accommodation behavior in ferroelectric oxide films,such as BFO,with various low-symmetry polymorphs.
