We aimed to evaluate the current nationwide trend,efficacy,safety,and quality of life(QoL)profiles of hormone treatment in real-world practice settings for prostate cancer(PCa)patients in Korea.A total of 292 men with any biopsy-proven PCa(TanyNanyMany)from 12 institutions in Korea were included in this multi-institutional,observational study of prospectively collected *** luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone(LHRH)agonists were allowed to be investigational *** was defined as(1)the rate of castration(serum testosterone≤50 ng dl^-1)at 4-week visit and(2)breakthrough(serum testosterone>50 ng dl^-1 after castration).Safety assessments included routine examinations for potential adverse events,laboratory tests,blood pressure,body weight,and bone min era I density(BMD,at baseli ne and at the last follow-up visit).QoL was assessed using the Expa nded Prostate Cancer Index Composite-26(EPIC-26).The most comm on initial therapeutic regimen was LHRH agonist with an ti-androge n(78.0%),and the most commonly used LHRH agonist for combination and mono therapy was leuprolide(64.0%for combi natio n and 58.0%for monotherapy).The castration and breakthrough rates were 78.4%and 6.6%,*** laboratory results related to dyslipidemia worsened after 4 weeks of hormone *** addition,the mean BMD T-score was significantly lower at the last follow-up(mean:-1.950)compared to baseline(mean:-0.195).The mean total EPIC-26 score decreased from 84.8(standard deviation[s.d.]:12.2)to 78.3(s.d.:8.1),with significant deterioration only in the urinary domain(mean:23.5 at baseli ne and 21.9 at the 4-week visit).These findi ngs dem on strate the n ationwide trend of current practice setti ngs in hormone treatment for PCa in Korea.

Precise control of each individual reaction that constitutes a multistep reaction must be performed to obtain the desired reaction product efficiently. In this work, we present a microfluidic dual loops reactor that enables multistep reaction by integrating two identical loop reactors. Specifically, reactants A and B are synthesized in the first loop reactor and transferred to the second loop reactor to synthesize with reactant C to form the final product. These individual reactions have nano-liter volumes and are carded out in a stepwise manner in each reactor without any cross-contamination issue. To pre- cisely control the mixing efficiency in each loop reactor, we investigate the operating pressure and the operating frequency on the mixing valves for rotary mixing. This microfluidic dual loops reactor is integrated with several valves to realize the fully automated unit operation of a multistep reaction, such as metering the reactants, rotary mixing, transportation, and collecting the product. For proof of concept, CdSeZn nanopartieles are successfully synthesized in a microfluidic dual loops reactor through a fully automated mukistep reaction. Taking all of these features together, this microfluidic dual loops reactor is a general microfluidic screening platform that can synthesize various materials through a multistep reaction.

This study investigates the effects of fine and coarse undissolved particles in a billet of the Mg–7 Sn–1 Al–1 Zn(TAZ711)alloy on the dynamic recrystallization(DRX)behavior during hot extrusion at low and high temperatures and the resultant microstructure and mechanical properties of the *** this end,partially homogenized(PH)and fully homogenized(FH)billets are extruded at temperatures of250 and 450°*** PH billet contains fine and coarse undissolved Mg_(2) Sn particles in the interdendritic region and along the grain boundaries,*** fine particles(<1μm in size)retard DRX during extrusion at 250°C via the Zener pinning effect,and this retardation causes a decrease in the area fraction of dynamically recrystallized(DRXed)grains of the extruded *** addition,the inhomogeneous distribution of fine particles in the PH billet leads to the formation of a bimodal DRXed grain structure with excessively grown grains in particle-scarce *** contrast,in the FH billet,numerous nanosized Mg_(2) Sn precipitates are formed throughout the material during extrusion at 250°C,which,in turn,leads to the formation of small,uniform DRXed grains by the grain-boundary pinning effect of the *** the PH billet is extruded at the high temperature of 450°C,the retardation effect of the fine particles on DRX is weakened by their dissolution in theα-Mg matrix and the increased extent of thermally activated grain-boundary *** contrast,the coarse Mg_(2) Sn particles in the billet promote DRX during extrusion through the particle-stimulated nucleation phenomenon,which results in an increase in the area fraction of DRXed *** both low and high extrusion temperatures,the extruded material fabricated using the PH billet,which contains both fine and coarse undissolved particles,has a lower tensile strength than that fabricated using the FH billet,which is virtually devoid of second-phase *** lower strength of the former is attributed mai

Background Community water fluoridation is an effective public health strategy for preventing dental caries,*** exist about potential health *** study explores associations between tap water fluoride levels and pediatric disease burden,as well as neurodevelopmental outcomes at 6 years of *** This nationwide population-based cohort study included children born in Korean cities with and without tap water fluoridation projects,between 2006 and 2012,aiming for a fluoride concentration of 0.8±0.2 mg/L in treated tap *** from the National Health Insurance Service were used,spanning from birth to *** relationship between exposure to fluoridated tap water and incidence of 16 childhood diseases that were previously identified as potentially linked to fluoride exposure were ***,we evaluated the neurodevelopmental outcomes across various domains,including gross motor,fine motor,cognition,language,social skills,and self-help *** assessments were performed using data from a comprehensive national health screening program for children aged six *** A fluoride-unexposed group included 22,881 children,whereas a fluoride-exposed group comprised 29,991 children(52%males).Children in the fluoride-exposed group had a decreased risk of dental caries and bone fractures[hazard ratio(95%confidence interval,CI),0.76(0.63–0.93)and 0.89(0.82–0.93),respectively]and increased risk of hepatic failures[1.85,(1.14–2.98)]compared to those in the unexposed ***,the risk ratio of abnormal neurodevelopmental screening outcomes increased by 9%,but this was statistically uncertain(95%CI,0.95–1.26).Conclusions Fluoridated tap water was associated with an increased risk of hepatic failure but a decreased risk of bone fractures in *** association between fluoridated tap water and neurodevelopmental screening outcomes at 6 years remains unclear,highlighting the need for further studies to clarify this associ

Background: Controlled-release oxycodone/naloxone(OXN-CR) maintains the effect of opioid-induced analgesia through oxycodone while reducing the occurrence rate of opioid-induced constipation through naloxone. The present study was designed to assess the non-inferiority of OXN-CR to controlled-release oxycodone(OX-CR) for the control of cancer-related pain in Korean ***: In this randomized, open-labeled, parallel-group, phase IV study, we enrolled patients aged 20 years or older with moderate to severe cancer-related pain [numeric rating scale(NRS) pain score ≥4] from seven Korean oncology/hematology centers. Patients in the intention-to-treat(ITT) population were randomized(1:1) to OXNCR or OX-CR groups. OXN-CR was administered starting at 20 mg/10 mg per day and up-titrated to a maximum of80 mg/40 mg per day for 4 weeks, and OX-CR was administered starting at 20 mg/day and up-titrated to a maximum of 80 mg/day for 4 *** primary efficacy endpoint was the change in NRS pain score from baseline to week4, with non-inferiority margin of-1.5. Secondary endpoints included analgesic rescue medication intake, patientreported change in bowel habits, laxative intake, quality of life(QoL), and safety ***: Of the ITT population comprising 128 patients, 7 with missing primary efficacy data and 4 who violated the eligibility criteria were excluded from the efficacy analysis. At week 4, the mean change in NRS pain scores was not significantly different between the OXN-CR group(n = 58) and the OX-CR group(n = 59)(-1.586 vs.-1.559,P = 0.948). The lower limit of the one-sided 95% confidence interval(-0.776 to 0.830) for the difference exceeded the non-inferiority margin(P < 0.001). BACKGROUND Breast cancer in young women has been shown to have an aggressive behavior and poor *** To evaluate the outcomes of young hormone receptor(HR)-positive patients with breast cancer treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy(NAC),and the oncologic efficacy of gonadotropin-releasing hormone(GnRH)*** This retrospective study involved a prospectively enrolled *** included patients diagnosed with invasive breast cancer who were treated with NAC followed by curative surgery at the Samsung Medical Center and Samsung Changwon Hospital between January 2006 and December *** patients with HR-positive and human epidermal grow factor 2(HER2)-negative breast cancer,we analyzed the characteristics and oncology outcomes between the patients equal to or younger than 35 years and the patients older than 35 *** Among 431 patients with NAC and HR-positive/HER2-negative breast cancer,78 were 35 years old or younger,and 353 patients were older than 35 *** median follow-up was 71.0 *** was no statistically significant difference in disease free survival(DFS,P=0.565)and overall survival(P=0.820)between the patients equal to or younger than 35 years and the patients older than 35 *** two groups differed in that the GnRH agonist was used more frequently in the group of patients equal to or younger than 35 years than in the other group(52.4%vs 11.2%,P<0.001).Interestingly,for the DFS according to the GnRH agonist in the group of patients equal to or younger than 35 years,patients treated with the GnRH agonist had better DFS(P=0.037).CONCLUSION Administration of GnRH agonists might improve the DFS rate of HR-positive/HER2-negative breast cancer in the equal to or younger than 35 years group of patients with NAC.

Korean freshwater snails of the genus Semisulcospira are widely distributed across East *** has been a very popular nutritional food in Korea,and is an ecologically important water quality indicator because it lives only in clean ***,no microsatellite markers have been generated to study the population genetic diversity of this *** the present study,we developed and characterized 18 novel microsatellite loci from Semisulcospira coreana genomic *** microsatellites were isolated using 454 GS-FLX titanium sequencing and 18 markers were used for genotyping in *** addition,we also tested the cross-species transferability of the microsatellite markers in four additional Semisulcospira *** identified 18 polymorphic loci and the number of alleles per loci,and their polymorphism information content values ranged from 2 to 17 and 0.203 to 0.902,*** observed and expected heterozygosities of the loci ranged from 0.063 to 0.924 and 0.226 to 0.924,*** to the analysis of the cross-species transferability of these markers,four species,***,***,***,and ***,showed a very high transferability(80%–85%).These results show that this set of nuclear markers could be useful for population genetics studies of this species and closely related species.

AIM To investigate the clinical utility of biological age(BA) measurement in screening colonoscopy for the detection of colorectal adenomas in the average-risk *** A consecutive series of asymptomatic subjects aged ≥ 30 years who underwent colonoscopy in routine check-ups were enrolled. Colorectal adenoma was classified according to size, number, and location. BAs were calculated using the MEDIAGETM Biological Age Measurement *** A total of 2696 subjects were investigated(1876 men and 820 women). The mean chronological age(CA) was 46.0 years and the mean BA was 44.7 years. Metabolic syndrome(MS) was diagnosed in 218 subjects(8.1%). The prevalence of overall colorectal adenoma was 23.1%(622/2,696). When the subjects were divided into four groups based on BA(≤ 39 years; 40-49 years; 50-59 years; ≥ 60 years), the prevalence of colorectal adenoma was increased as BA increased(P < 0.001). Colorectal adenoma located in the proximal colon was more prevalent in the BA-dominant group(BA-CA ≥ 5years) than the CA-dominant group(CA-BA ≥ 5 years)(P = 0.034). When the subjects were categorized into four groups according to MS and age gap between BA and CA, the incidence of colorectal adenoma increased with MS and BA-dominance(P < 0.05).CONCLUSION Measurement of BA may help to assess the risk of colorectal adenoma in screening colonoscopy.
