Korean freshwater snails of the genus Semisulcospira are widely distributed across East *** has been a very popular nutritional food in Korea,and is an ecologically important water quality indicator because it lives only in clean ***,no microsatellite markers have been generated to study the population genetic diversity of this *** the present study,we developed and characterized 18 novel microsatellite loci from Semisulcospira coreana genomic *** microsatellites were isolated using 454 GS-FLX titanium sequencing and 18 markers were used for genotyping in *** addition,we also tested the cross-species transferability of the microsatellite markers in four additional Semisulcospira *** identified 18 polymorphic loci and the number of alleles per loci,and their polymorphism information content values ranged from 2 to 17 and 0.203 to 0.902,*** observed and expected heterozygosities of the loci ranged from 0.063 to 0.924 and 0.226 to 0.924,*** to the analysis of the cross-species transferability of these markers,four species,***,***,***,and ***,showed a very high transferability(80%–85%).These results show that this set of nuclear markers could be useful for population genetics studies of this species and closely related species.

Developing efficient separation materials for recovering metal resources from aqueous environments is crucial for the sustainable water–food–energy nexus,which addresses the interdependence between energy production,water production,and energy *** material-based separation processes have demonstrated outstanding ***,electric energy and chemicals are used to frequently replace the separation materials used in such processes owing to their short life *** study presents a methodology for designing the self-regenerable fiber(SRF)according to the types of metals through a self-regeneration *** SRF can semi-permanently recover the metal resources from water through a repetitive adsorption–crystallization–detachment process of metal ions on its *** ionic metal resources are adsorbed and crystallized with the counter-anions on the SRF ***,the metal crystals are self-detached from the SRF surface by the collision between the crystals and curvature and non-sticky surface of the ***,a module containing the SRF maintains its metal recovery capability even during continuous injection of the metal solution without its *** findings highlight the significance of interfacial engineering and further guide the rational design of energy/environmentally friendly resource recovery modules.

Inflammatory bowel disease(IBD) is a chronic, relapsing intestinal inflammatory disorder with unidentified causes. Both environmental factors and genetic aspects are believed to be crucial to the pathogenesis of IBD. The incidence and prevalence of IBD have recently been increasing throughout Asia, presumably secondary to environmental changes. This increasing trend in IBD epidemiology necessitates specific health care planning and education in Asia. To this end, we must gain a precise understanding of the distinctive clinical and therapeutic characteristics of Asian patients with IBD. The phenotypes of IBD reportedly differ considerably between Asians and Caucasians. Thus, use of the same management strategies for these different populations may not be appropriate. Moreover, investigation of the Asian-specific clinical aspects of IBD offers the possibility of identifying causative factors in the pathogenesis of IBD in this geographical area. Accordingly, this review summarizes current knowledge of the phenotypic manifestations and management practices of patients with IBD, with a special focus on a comparisonof Eastern and Western perspectives.

Tip vortex cavitation noise of marine propeller became primary concems to reduce hazardous environmental impacts from commercial ship or to keep the underwater surveillance of naval ships. The investigations of the tip vortex and its induced noise are normally conducted through the model test in a water cavitation tunnel. However the Reynolds number of model-test is much smaller than that of the full-scale, which subsequently results in the difference of tip vortex cavitation inception. Hence, the scaling law between model- and full-scales needs to be identified prior to the prediction and assessment of propeller noise in full scale. From previous researches, it is generally known that the incipient caivtation number of tip vortex can be represented as a power of the Reynolds number. However, the power exponent for scaling, which is the main focus of this research, has not been clearly studied yet. This paper deals with the estimation of scaling exponent based on tip vortex cavitation inception test in both full- and model-scale ships. Acoustical measurements as well as several kind of signal processing technique for an inception criterion suggest the scaling exponent as 0.30. The scaling value proposed in this study shows slight difference to the one of most recent research. Besides, extrapolation of model-ship noise measurement using the proposed one predicts the full-scale noise measurement with an acceptable discrepancy.

Selexipag as Add-on Therapy for Patients with Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension Associated with Congenital Heart Disease:A Single-Center Retrospective Study

Purpose:This study examined the efficacy and safety of selexipag in treating pulmonary arterial hypertension(PAH)associated with congenital heart disease(CHD).Materials and Methods:We conducted a retrospective study of patients with CHD-associated PAH,treated with selexipag since December *** adult patients(mean age,45.4 years;women,77%)were treated with selexipag as add-on *** characteristics,World Health Organization functional class,6-minute walking distance(6MWD)test results,N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide levels,echocardiographic data,and incidence of side effects were ***:The majority of patients(12/13,92.3%)experienced more than one treatment-associated complication;one patient dropped out of the study due to intolerable *** results of 6MWD test(from 299.2±56.2 m to 363.8±86.5 m,p=0.039)and tricuspid regurgitation(TR)pressure gradient(from 84.7±20.5 mmHg to 61.6±24.0 mmHg,p=0.018)improved and remained improved after selexipag treatment in 12 *** on the results of a non-invasive risk assessment,8(66.7%)patients showed improvement,3(25.0%)showed no interval change,and the status of one patient(8.3%)***,compared to patients treated with a low dosage,patients treated with a medium-to-high dosage showed a greater increase in 6MWD results(88.3±26.4 m vs.55.3±27.6 m,p=0.043)and a greater reduction in the TR pressure gradient(-33.7±10.9 mmHg vs.-12.5±12.0 mmHg,p=0.015).Conclusion:Selexipag is an efficient pulmonary vasodilator as add-on therapy in treating CHD-associated PAH.

Microfluidic dual loops reactor for conducting a multistep reaction

Precise control of each individual reaction that constitutes a multistep reaction must be performed to obtain the desired reaction product efficiently. In this work, we present a microfluidic dual loops reactor that enables multistep reaction by integrating two identical loop reactors. Specifically, reactants A and B are synthesized in the first loop reactor and transferred to the second loop reactor to synthesize with reactant C to form the final product. These individual reactions have nano-liter volumes and are carded out in a stepwise manner in each reactor without any cross-contamination issue. To pre- cisely control the mixing efficiency in each loop reactor, we investigate the operating pressure and the operating frequency on the mixing valves for rotary mixing. This microfluidic dual loops reactor is integrated with several valves to realize the fully automated unit operation of a multistep reaction, such as metering the reactants, rotary mixing, transportation, and collecting the product. For proof of concept, CdSeZn nanopartieles are successfully synthesized in a microfluidic dual loops reactor through a fully automated mukistep reaction. Taking all of these features together, this microfluidic dual loops reactor is a general microfluidic screening platform that can synthesize various materials through a multistep reaction.

We re port the facile synthesis of Ni,Co-double hydroxide wire(NCHW)-based electrodes directly grown on a conductive substrate via a hydrothermal *** NCHW nanostructures were grown on Ni foam,and the growth was controlled using different compositions of solvents(ethanol and water).With increasing volume ratio of ethanol to water,the density of the wires decreased,and the spatial voids between the wires *** formation of large empty spaces improved the electrochemical performance because the exposure of a large surface area of the structure to the electrolyte resulted in a large number of active sites and facile electrolyte penetration into the *** different NCHW structures were ascribed to the pivotal role of the solvent in the urea hydrolysis;the solvent triggered the formation of hydroxides during the hydrothermal *** electrochemical performance of the NCHW electrodes was investigated via galvanostatic charge/discha rge tests,cyclic voltammetry,and electrochemical impedance *** highest specific capacitance was 1694.7 m F/cm^2 at 2 mA/cm^2,with excellent capacitance retention of 81.5% after 5000 *** superior electrochemical performance of the NCHW electrodes is attributed to the large number of active sites and facile electrolyte diffusion into the structure,due to the well-organized structure with an optimized density of nanowires and large voids between the wires.

High- and medium-Mn (H/M-Mn) base lightweight steels are a class of ultrastrong structural materials with high ductility compared to their low-Mn counterparts with low strength and poor ***, producing these H/M-Mn materials requires the advanced or high-tech manufacturing techniques, which can unavoidably provoke labor and cost concerns. Herein, we have developed a facilestrategy that circumvents the strength–ductility trade-off in low-Mn ferritic lightweight steels, by employing low-temperature tempering-induced partitioning (LTP). This LTP treatment affords a typical Fe-2.8Mn-5.7Al-0.3C (wt.%) steel with a heterogeneous size-distribution of metastable austenite embeddedin a ferrite matrix for partitioning more carbon into smaller austenite grains than into the larger austenite ones. This size-dependent partitioning results in slip plane spacing modification and lattice strain,which act through dislocation engineering. We ascribe the simultaneous improvement in strength andtotal elongation to both the size-dependent dislocation movement in austenite grains and the controlleddeformation-induced martensitic transformation. The low-carbon-partitioned large austenite grains increase the strength and ductility as a consequence of the combined martensitic transformation andhigh dislocation density-induced hardening and by interface strengthening. Additionally, high-carbonpartitioned small austenite grains enhance the strength and ductility by planar dislocation glide (inthe low strain regime) and by cross-slipping and delayed martensitic transformation (in the high strainregime). The concept of size-dependent dislocation engineering may provide different pathways for developing a wide range of heterogeneous-structured low-Mn lightweight steels, suggesting that LTP maybe desirable for broad industrial applications at an economic cost.
