Mantle cell lymphoma(MCL), a special type of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, is incurable through conventional treatment. This study aimed to analyze the clinical features, therapeutic responses, and prognosis of patients with MCL. Clinical data of 30 patients with MCL treated in our hospital between April 2006 and July 2011 were analyzed. Eighteen patients were treated with CHOP plus rituximab (R-CHOP) regimen, 12 underwent conventional chemotherapy. The median age of the 30 patients was 58 years, 23 were men, all patients had Cyclin D1 overexpression, 29 (96.7%) had advanced disease, 11 (36.7%) had bone marrow involvement, 9 (30.0%) had gastrointestinal involvement, and 15 (50.0%) had splenomegaly. The complete response(CR) rate and overall response rate(ORR) were significantly higher in patients undergoing R-CHOP immunochemotherapy than in those undergoing conventional chemotherapy (38.9% vs. 16.7%, P = 0.187; 72.2% vs. 41.4%, P = 0.098). The difference of 2-year overall survival rate between the two groups was not significant (P = 0.807) due to the short follow-up time. The 2-year progression-free survival (PFS) rate was higher in R-CHOP group than in conventional chemotherapy group (53% vs. 25%, P = 0.083), and was higher in patients with a lower mantle cell lymphoma international prognostic index (MIPI) (51% for MIPI 0-3, 33% for MIPI 4-5, and 0% for MIPI 6-11, P = 0.059). Most patients with MCL were elderly; in an advanced stage; showed a male predominance; and usually had bone marrow involvement, gastrointestinal involvement, or splenomegaly. R-CHOP regimen could improve the CR rate and ORR of MCL patients. MIPI can be a new prognostic index for predicting the prognosis of advanced MCL.

Simple nonlinear model for the relationship between maize yield and cumulative water amount

Both the additive and multiplicative models of crop yield and water supply are polynomial equations, and the number of parameters increases linearly when the growing period is specified. However, interactions among multiple parameters occasionally lead to unreasonable estimations of certain parameters, which were water sensitivity coefficients but with negative value. Additionally, evapotranspiration must be measured as a model input. To facilitate the application of these models and overcome the aforementioned shortcomings, a simple model with only three parameters was derived in this paper based on certain general quantitative relations of crop yield （Y） and water supply （W）. The new model, Y/Y-W＊/（W＊＋w＊）, fits an S or a saturated curve of crop yield with the cumulative amount of water. Three parameters are related to biological factors： the yield potential （Y＊）, the water requirement to achieve half of the yield potential （half-yield water requirement, wh）, and the water sensitivity coefficient （k）. The model was validated with data from 24 maize lines obtained in the present study and 17 maize hybrids published by other authors. The results showed that the model was well fit to the data, and the normal root of the mean square error （NRMSE） values were 2.8 to 17.8% （average 7.2%） for the 24 maize lines and 2.7 to 12.7% （average 7.4%） for the 17 maize varieties. According to the present model, the maize water-sensitive stages in descending order were pollen shedding and silking, tasselling, jointing, initial grain filling, germination, middle grain filling, late grain filling, and end of grain filling. This sequence was consistent with actual observations in the maize field. The present model may be easily used to analyse the water use efficiency and drought tolerance of maize at specific stages.

Background:Biomarkers based on immune context may guide prognosis prediction.T-cell inactivation,exclusion,or dysfunction could cause unfavorable tumor microenvironments,which affect immunotherapy and ***,none of the immuno-biomarkers reported to date can differentiate colorectal-cancer(CRC)***,we aimed to classify CRC patients according to the levels of T-cell activation,exclusion,and dysfunction in the tumor ***:RNAseq data of 618 CRC patients from The Cancer Genome Atlas and microarray data of 316 CRC patients from Gene Expression Omnibus were analysed using the Tumor Immune Dysfunction and Exclusion *** clustering was used to classify ***:Based on the expression signatures of myeloid-derived suppressor cells,cancer-associated fibroblasts,M2-like tumor-associated macrophages,cytotoxic T-lymphocytes,and PD-L1,all patients were clustered into four subtypes:cluster 1 had a high level of immune dysfunction,cluster 2 had a low level of immune activation,cluster 3 had intense immune exclusion,and cluster 4 had a high level of immune activation and a moderate level of both dysfunction and exclusion *** with cluster 1,the hazard ratios and 95%confidential intervals for overall survival were 0.63(0.35-1.13)for cluster 2,0.55(0.29-1.03)for cluster 3,and 0.30(0.14-0.64)for cluster 4 in multivariate Cox *** immune clustering and prognosis patterns were obtained upon validation in the GSE39582 *** subgroup analysis,immune clustering was significantly associated with overall survival among stage I/II patients,microsatellite stable/instability-low patients,and patients not treated with adjuvant ***:Our findings demonstrated that classifying CRC patients into different immune subtypes serves as a reliable prognosis predictor and may help to refine patient selection for personalized cancer immunotherapy.

Understanding of charge/energy exchange processes and interfacial interactions that occur between quantum dots (QDs) and the metal oxides is of critical importance to these QD-based optoelectronic devices. This work reports on linear dipole behavior of single near-infrared emitting CdSeTe/ZnS core/shell QDs which are encased in indium tin oxide (ITO) semiconductor lianoparticles films. A strong polarization anisotropy in photohiminescence emission is observed by defocused wide-field imaging and polarization measuremen11echniques, and the average polarization degree is up to 0.45. A possible mechanism for the observation is presented in which the electrons, locating at single QD surface from ITO by electron transfer due to the equilibration of the Fermi levels, result in a significant Stark distortion of the QD electron/hole wavefunctions. The Stark distortion results in the linear polarization property of the single QDs. The investigation of linear dipole behavior for single QDs encased in ITO films would be helpful for further improving QD-based device performance.

Drought is one of the most important abiotic stresses affecting maize growth and development and therefore resulting in yield *** it is essential to understand molecular mechanisms of drought stress responses in maize for drought tolerance *** root plays a critical role in plants sensing water *** the present study,two maize inbred lines,H082183,a drought-tolerant line,and Lv28,a drought-sensitive line,were grown in the field and treated with different water conditions(moderate drought,severe drought,and well-watered conditions)during vegetative *** transcriptomes of their roots were investigated by RNA *** were 1428 and 512 drought-responsive genes(DRGs)in Lv28,688 and 3363 DRGs in H082183 under moderate drought and severe drought,respectively.A total of 31 Gene Ontology(GO)terms were significantly over-represented in the two lines,13 of which were enriched only in the DRGs of *** on results of Kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes(KEGG)enrichment analysis,"plant hormone signal transduction"and"starch and sucrose metabolism"were enriched in both of the two lines,while"phenylpropanoid biosynthesis"was only enriched in *** analysis revealed the different expression patterns of genes related to abscisic acid(ABA)signal pathway,trehalose biosynthesis,reactive oxygen scavenging,and transcription factors might contribute to drought tolerance in *** results contribute to illustrating drought-responsive molecular mechanisms and providing gene resources for maize drought improvement.

OBJECTIVE To summarize the clinical characteristics and treatment effects of Burkitt lymphoma （BL） and Burkitt-like lymphoma （BLL）, and to explore the best possible optimal regimens and the treatment-related *** Clinical data of 13 BL and BLL patients, who were pathologically diagnosed and treated in the Beijing Cancer Hospital from August 1996 to October 2008, were retrospectively analyzed, All patients received the therapeutic regimen with chemotherapy as the first-line treatment. The treatment effect and adverse reactions were *** Of the 13 patients, 12 were men and 1 was woman, with a median age of 15 years （range, 11-62）. Three of the patients were in stage Ⅰ, 2 in stage Ⅱ, 2 in stage Ⅲ, and 6 in stage Ⅳ. Advanced cases were 8 （stage Ⅲ and Ⅳ）, accounting for 61.5% of the patients. Bone marrow involvement was found in 2 cases （15.4%） and central nervous system invasion in 4 （30.8%） at the beginning of the treatment. The common involved sites included the superficial lymph nodes （61.5%）, abdominal organs （53.8%）, and abdominal and retro-peritoneal lymph nodes （38.5%）. B symptoms were observed in 7 patients （53.8%）. Serum lactate dehydrogenase （LDH） level was increased in 8 of the 10 patients who underwent the serum LDH determination, while serum uric acid level was increased in 1 of the 10. Pathological diagnosis showed that 11 of the cases were BL and 2 BLL. Of the 13 patients, 11 （84.6%） achieved a complete remission （CR） or CR/unconfirmed （CRu）, and 1 （7.7%） a partial remission （PR）, with a total responsive rate of 92.3%. At a median follow-up of 8 months （range 5-35）, 6 patients were found dead at the end of the follow-up. One of the 13 patients was lost to the follow-up. The 1-year overall survival, progression-free survival and disease-free survival rates were 56.98%, 32.31% and 39.77%, respectively. Ultrashort and powerful laser interactions with a target generate intense wideband electromagnetic pulses(EMPs).In this study,we report EMPs generated by the interactions between petawatt(30 fs,1.4×10^(20) W/cm^(2))femtosecond(fs)lasers with metal flat,plastic flat,and plastic nanowire-array(NWA)*** analyses are conducted on the EMPs in terms of their spatial distribution,time and frequency domains,radiation energy,and *** results indicate that EMPs from metal targets exhibit larger amplitudes at varying angles than those generated by other types of targets and are enhanced significantly for NWA *** a plastic target holder and increasing the laser focal spot can significantly decrease the radiation energy of the ***,the composite shielding materials indicate an effective shielding effect against *** simulation results show that the NWA targets exert a collimating effect on thermal electrons,which directly affects the distribution of *** study provides guidance for regulating EMPs by controlling the laser focal spot,target parameters,and target rod material and is beneficial for electromagnetic-shielding design.

Background:There is no consensus on whether triplet regimen is better than doublet regimen in the first-line treatment of advanced gastric cancer(AGC).We aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of oxaliplatin plus capecitabine(XELOX)and epirubicin,oxaliplatin,plus capecitabine(EOX)regimens in treating ***:This phase III trial enrolled previously untreated patients with AGC whowere randomly assigned to receive the XELOXor *** primary endpoint was non-inferiority in progression-free survival(PFS)for XELOX as compared with EOX on an intention-to-treat ***:Between April 10,2015 andAugust 20,2020,448AGCpatientswere randomized to receive XELOX(n=222)or EOX(n=226).The median PFS(mPFS)was 5.0 months(95%confidence interval[CI]=4.5-6.0 months)in the XELOX arm and 5.5 months(95%CI=5.0-6.0 months)in the EOX arm(hazard ratio[HR]=0.989,95%CI=0.812-1.203;P_(non-inferiority)=0.003).There was no significant difference inmedian overall survival(mOS)(12.0 vs.12.0months,P=0.384)or objective response rate(37.4%vs.45.1%,P=0.291)between the two *** patients with poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma and liver metastasis,the EOX arm had a significantly longer mOS(P=0.021)and a trend of longer mPFS(P=0.073)than the XELOX *** rate of grade 3/4 adverse events(AEs)was 42.2%(90/213)in the XELOX arm and 72.5%(156/215)in the EOX arm(P=0.001).The global health-related quality of life(QoL)score was significantly higher in the XELOX arm than in the EOX arm during ***:This non-inferiority trial demonstrated that the doublet regimen was as effective as the triplet regimen and had a better safety profile and QoL as a first-line treatment for AGC ***,the triplet regimen might have a survival advantage in patients with poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma and liver metastasis.
