Dapagliflozin and sacubitril on myocardial microperfusion in patients with post-acute myocardial infarction heart failure and type 2 diabetes

Progress of hidden spin polarization in inversion-symmetric crystals

Hidden spin polarization refers to that doubly degenerate bands protected by combined inversion and time-reversal symmetry in nonmagnetic inversion-symmetric crystals could have opposite non-zero local spin polarizations, which are spatially separated in two real-space sectors paired by the inversion symmetry. Since its first prediction from ab initio calculation, hidden spin polarization has inspired tremendous interest and has been observed experimentally due to its intriguing fundamental properties as well as the great potential for applications. Moving forward, the search for moment-dependent spin splitting has also been extended to antiferromagnets even without considering spin-orbit coupling. This paper systematically reviews recent works in this field with a focus on basic concepts and material realization. It also details several remaining bottlenecks and suggests possible avenues for future research.

Band structure engineering and defect control of oxides for energy applications

Metal oxides play an essential role in modern optoelectronic devices because they have many unique physical properties such as structure diversity, superb stability in solution, good catalytic activity, and simultaneous high electron conductivity and optical transmission. Therefore, they are widely used in energy-related optoelectronic applications such as photovoltaics and photoelectrochemical（PEC） fuel generation. In this review, we mainly discuss the structure engineering and defect control of oxides for energy applications, especially for transparent conducting oxides（TCOs） and oxide catalysts used for water splitting. We will review our current understanding with an emphasis on the contributions of our previous theoretical modeling, primarily based on density functional theory. In particular, we highlight our previous work：（i） the fundamental principles governing the crystal structures and the electrical and optical behaviors of TCOs;（ii） band structures and defect properties for n-type TCOs;（iii） why p-type TCOs are difficult to achieve;（iv） how to modify the band structure to achieve p-type TCOs or even bipolarly dopable TCOs;（v） the origin of the high-performance of amorphous TCOs; and（vi） band structure engineering of bulk and nano oxides for PEC water splitting. Based on the understanding above, we hope to clarify the key issues and the challenges facing the rational design of novel oxides and propose new and feasible strategies or models to improve the performance of existing oxides or design new oxides that are critical for the development of next-generation energy-related applications.

The critical role of hot carrier cooling in optically excited structural transitions

The hot carrier cooling occurs in most photoexcitation-induced phase transitions(PIPTs),but its role has often been neglected in many theoretical simulations as well as in proposed ***,by including the previously ignored hot carrier cooling in real-time time-dependent density functional theory(rt-TDDFT)simulations,we investigated the role of hot carrier cooling in *** IrTe2 as an example,we reveal that the cooling of hot electrons from the higher energy levels of spatially extended states to the lower energy levels of the localized Ir–Ir dimer antibonding states strengthens remarkably the atomic driving forces and enhances atomic kinetic *** two factors combine to dissolute the Ir–Ir dimers on a timescale near the limit of atomic motions,thus initiating a deterministic kinetic phase *** further demonstrate that the subsequent cooling induces nonradiative recombination of photoexcited electrons and holes,leading to the ultrafast recovery of the Ir–Ir dimers observed *** findings provide a complete picture of the atomic dynamics in optically excited structural phase transitions.

Copper(Cu)-based materials(such as cuprates,Cu chalcogenides,and Cu halides)often exhibit unusual properties such as superconductivity,ultralow thermal conductivity,and ***,the electronic origin of these unusual behaviors remains *** this study,we demonstrate that the high-lying occupied 3d orbital of Cu causes a strong s-d coupling with its unoccupied 4s state when local symmetry is *** leads to strong phonon anharmonicity and is responsible for these intriguing *** example,during thermal transport,symmetry-controlled s-d coupling can substantially lower the lattice potential barrier,thereby enhancing the anharmonicity and scattering between phonons and ultimately significantly reducing lattice thermal *** confirmed this understanding with Raman spectra measurements,which demonstrated a remarkable red shift in the phonon vibrational frequency with an increase in the temperature of Cu-based *** study shows that the cause of phonon anharmonicity is related to the fundamental electronic structures,which can also explain other unusual physical properties of the Cu compounds.

Poly (L-lactide)-poly(ethylene glycol) multiblock copolymers with predetermined block lengths were synthesized by polycondensation of PLA diols and PEG diacids. These copolymers presented special properties, such as better miscibility between the two components, low crystallinity and better hydrophilicity, which can be modulated by adjusting the block lengths of the two components.

The origin of electronic band structure anomaly in topological crystalline insulator group-Ⅳ tellurides

Group-Ⅳ tellurides have exhibited exotic band ***,despite the fact that Sn sits between Ge and Pb in the same column of the periodic table,cubic SnTe is a topological crystalline insulator with band inversion,but both isovalent GeTe and PbTe are trivial semiconductors with normal band *** performing first-principles band structure calculations,we unravel the origin of this abnormal behaviour by using symmetry analysis and the atomic orbital energy levels and atomic sizes of these *** group-Ⅳ tellurides,the s lone pair band of the group-Ⅳ element is allowed by symmetry to couple with the anion valence p band at the L-point,and such s–p coupling leads to the occurrence of bandgap at the *** find that such s–p coupling is so strong in SnTe that it inverts the band order near the bandgap;however,it is not strong enough in both GeTe and PbTe,so they remain normal *** reason for this is the incomplete screening of the core of the relatively tight-binding Ge 4s orbital by its 3d orbitals and the large atomic size and strong relativistic effect in Pb,***,we also find that the rhombohedral distortion removes the inversion symmetry and the reduced s–p coupling transforms theα-SnTe back to a normal *** study demonstrates that,in addition to spin–orbital coupling,strain and interface dipole fields,inter-orbital coupling is another effective way to engineer the topological insulators.

Atomic-Ordering-Induced Quantum Phase Transition between Topological Crystalline Insulator and Z_2 Topological Insulator

Topological phase transition in a single material usually refers to transitions between a trivial band insulator and a topological Dirac phase, and the transition may also occur between different classes of topological Dirac *** is a fundamental challenge to realize quantum transition between Z_2 nontrivial topological insulator（TI） and topological crystalline insulator（TCI） in one material because Z_2 TI and TCI have different requirements on the number of band inversions. The Z_2 TIs must have an odd number of band inversions over all the time-reversal invariant momenta, whereas the newly discovered TCIs, as a distinct class of the topological Dirac materials protected by the underlying crystalline symmetry, owns an even number of band inversions. Taking PbSnTe_2 alloy as an example, here we demonstrate that the atomic-ordering is an effective way to tune the symmetry of the alloy so that we can electrically switch between TCI phase and Z_2 TI phase in a single material. Our results suggest that the atomic-ordering provides a new platform towards the realization of reversibly switching between different topological phases to explore novel applications.

Precipitation evolution and properties of Cu-15Ni-8Sn alloys via Al microalloying during ageing

Studies have shown that microalloying Cu-Ni-Sn alloys using Al inhibits discontinuous precipitation reactions;however,the mechanism has not been investigated ***,this study explored the properties and precipitation evolution of Cu-15Ni-8Sn alloys without and with 1 wt%Al（Cu-15Ni-8Sn-1Al） during ageing at 500℃ through X-ray diffraction （XRD）,scanning electron microscopy and high-angle annular dark-field scanning transmission electron *** results revealed that in Cu-15Ni-8Sn alloy,DO22ordering first occurred after spinodal decomposition,subsequently transitioning to an L12ordering phase,during which the discontinuous precipitates gradually nucleated at the grain boundaries and formed *** alloy hardness increased sharply with ordering and then decreased rapidly after reaching its peak value,due to the dominance of the discontinuous precipitation ***,the DO22ordered phase did not appear during the ageing of Cu-15Ni-8Sn-1Al alloy,and a Ni3(Alx,Sn1-x) intermetallic compound with L12structure was formed,consuming Ni and Sn atoms,thereby significantly suppressing the discontinuous precipitation reaction and improving the stability during prolonged *** tensile strength （yield strength） of Cu-15Ni-8Sn and Cu-15Ni-8Sn-1Al alloys at peak hardness were 855 （755） and 936 MPa （892 MPa）,respectively,and their main strengthening mechanisms were solid solution strengthening and precipitation *** addition of 1 wt% Al effectively improved the precipitation strengthening effect of Cu-Ni-Sn alloys but severely decreased the ductility.
