Experimental and numerical investigations on wave motions over platform reef-flat

Previous studies have shown that high-frequency(HF)waves,low-frequency(LF)waves and wave set-up coexist on shallow coral reef-flat and jointly contribute to potential floods and subsequent damages of infrastructures and islands on it.To better understand the reef-flat wave dynamics with incident waves and still water level,a wave-flume experiment was performed based on an idealized platform reef composed of a steep reef-face(1:4),a relatively mild reef-rim(1:14)and a horizontal reef-flat.Also,the non-hydrostatic phase-resolving model SWASH was validated against the experiment and then applied to further numerically investigate the effects of reef-rim topographic features on the reef-flat wave motions.The results show that incident waves of a larger wave height and a longer wave period can generate larger LF waves and wave set-up,thereby inducing greater HF waves on the reef-flat.Higher still water level can lead to larger HF waves but result in smaller wave set-up.In contrast to HF waves and wave set-up,LF waves are minimally affected by the still water level.A rim of milder slope and larger edge depth will induce smaller HF and LF waves and set-up on the reef-flat,and thus provide better protection for the reef-flat region.Furthermore,on the reef-flat,the ratio of HF significant wave height to water depth H_(s_h)/(h_(r)+η^(-))is approximately constant;the dimensionless LF significant wave height Hs_l/H_(s0) and the dimensionless wave set-upη^(-)/[T_(p)(gH_(s0))1/2]can be related to the inverse wave steepness parameter gT_(p)^(2)/H_(s0) and the relative reef-flat submergence(h_(r)+η^(-))/H_(s0) respectively.

In the process of microemulsion flooding,microemulsion phase state may be affected by the adsorption of core and the distribution of oil and water,and the upper phase,the middle phase or the lower phase microemulsion will appear.Accurate description of microemulsion phase state and quantitative discrimination of equilibrium phase composition are of great theoretical value and research significance for the design of microemulsion flooding system and improving the recovery efficiency of microemulsion.Therefore,in this paper,microemulsion phase model is deeply studied.Aiming at the difficulty of solving the existing Hand model and the unknown parameters of the improved HLD-NAC model,we introduce the binodal curve range parameter D and the asymmetric migration degree parameter B,and establish a new phase behavior description method of the binodal curve,the two-phase plait point lines and the III-phase node line.Then the phase discrimination programming of microemulsion was carried out,and the change laws of phase number,phase type and mass fraction of equilibrium phases of any microemulsion system under different salinity were revealed.The results show that the simulation results of microemulsions accord with the salinity scanning law,and can accurately identify the complex microemulsion phase states.

Determination of activity interaction parameters of Nb in Fe-C-Nb melts at 1873 K

The interaction parameters of Nb in Fe-C-Nb melts at 1873 K were measured using the chemical equilibrium method.The Fe-C melts were equilibrated with the CaO-MgO-Al_(2)O_(3)-NbO_(2) slags under a controlled oxygen potential for 24 h.In addition to acting as the protective gas,argon was adopted to control the oxygen potential.Based on the data obtained in the experiments,the activity interaction parameters were obtained by the multiple linear regression method.The first-order interaction parameters e_(Nb)^(C)and e_(Nb)^(Nb)are determined to be−0.035 and−0.134,respectively.The second-order interaction parameters r_(Nb)^(C),r_(Nb)^(Nb,C),and r_(Nb)……(Nb)are determined to be 0.011,−0.0063,and 0.0023,respectively.The thermodynamic data obtained are more reliable than those in previous publications for the Fe-C-Nb system when the Nb content range was 0.92-4.62 wt.%.

Application value of biofluid-based biomarkers for the diagnosis and treatment of spinal cord injury

Recent studies in patients with spinal cord injuries(SCIs)have confirmed the diagnostic potential of biofluid-based biomarkers,as a topic of increasing interest in relation to SCI diagnosis and treatment.This paper reviews the research progress and application prospects of recently identified SCI-related biomarkers.Many structural proteins,such as glial fibrillary acidic protein,S100-β,ubiquitin carboxy-terminal hydrolase-L1,neurofilament light,and tau protein were correlated with the diagnosis,American Spinal Injury Association Impairment Scale,and prognosis of SCI to different degrees.Inflammatory factors,including interleukin-6,interleukin-8,and tumor necrosis factorα,are also good biomarkers for the diagnosis of acute and chronic SCI,while non-coding RNAs(micro RNAs and long non-coding RNAs)also show diagnostic potential for SCI.Trace elements(Mg,Se,Cu,Zn)have been shown to be related to motor recovery and can predict motor function after SCI,while humoral markers can reflect the pathophysiological changes after SCI.These factors have the advantages of low cost,convenient sampling,and ease of dynamic tracking,but are also associated with disadvantages,including diverse influencing factors and complex level changes.Although various proteins have been verified as potential biomarkers for SCI,more convincing evidence from large clinical and prospective studies is thus required to identify the most valuable diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers for SCI.

Recent reactor antineutrino experiments have observed that the neutrino spectrum changes with the reactor core evolution and that the individual fissile isotope antineutrino spectra can be decomposed from the evolving data,providing valuable information for the reactor model and data inconsistent problems.We propose a machine learning method by building a convolutional neural network based on a virtual experiment with a typical short-baseline reactor antineutrino experiment configuration:by utilizing the reactor evolution information,the major fissile isotope spectra are correctly extracted,and the uncertainties are evaluated using the Monte Carlo method.Validation tests show that the method is unbiased and introduces tiny extra uncertainties.

Ultrathin,elastic,and self-adhesive nanofiber bio-tape:An intraoperative drug-loading module for ureteral stents with localized and controlled drug delivery properties for customized therapy

During the postoperative management of urinary diseases,oral or intravenous administration of drugs and implanting ureteral stents are usually required,making localized drug delivery by ureteral stent a precise and effective medication strategy.In the traditional drug loading method,the drug was premixed in the implants in production lines and the versatility of drugs was restricted.However,the complex situation in the urinary system fails the possibility of finding a“one fits all”medication plan,and the intraoperative drug-loading of implants is highly desired to support customized therapy.Here,we designed an ultrathin(8μm),elastic,and self-adhesive nanofiber bio-tape(NFBT)that can easily encapsulate drugs on the stent surface for controllable localized drug delivery.The NFBT exhibited high binding strength to a ureteral stent,a sustained release over 7 d in PBS for hydrophilic drug,and a zero-order release curve over 28 days for the hydrophobic drug nitrofurantoin(NFT).Further in vivo experiments using a porcine ureteral tract infection model demonstrated that NFBT loaded with NFT could significantly reduce the bacterial concentration in urine.The total amount of NFT delivered by the NFBT was about 2.68 wt%of the recommended dose for the systemic administration.

Dear Editor,At the end of the 3^(rd)month of embryonic development,the normal prostate derives from a series of endodermal buds from the lining of the future prostatic urethra.1 Ectopic prostatic tissue(EPT)is defined as the presence of prostatic tissue at sites other than expected.2 The precise origin of EPT is not entirely defined.Three theories have been proposed for this phenomenon,including migration and misplacement of normal tissue,persistent embryological remnants,and metaplasia of the transitional epithelium.1 EPT is relatively rare,and mostly occurs in the lower male genitourinary tract and occasionally in the female genitourinary tract.3 EPT symptoms are nonspecific,e.g.,hematuria,elevated urinary frequency,and nocturia.3 Heretofore,EPT cases at the bladder have been reported in literature,involving the bladder neck,trigone,interureteric ridge,and dome.2,4 However,to our knowledge,no study has described an EPT at the bladder trigone accompanied by cystitis glandularis(CG)and hemorrhage,detected by multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging(MRI).This case report suggests that multiparametric MRI could provide valuable imaging data for preoperative diagnosis of EPT.

Analysis of the effect of holmium laser flexible ureteroscopic intrapelvic drainage in the treatment of parapelvic renal cysts

Objective:To explore the efficacy,safety,and feasibility of holmium laser flexible ureteroscopic intrapelvic drainage in the treatment of parapelvic renal cysts.Methods:From September 2012 to February 2019,a total of 18 patients,aged from 28 to 62(meanstandard deviation[SD]:46.50±9.14)years,were diagnosed with parapelvic renal cysts and treated by holmium laser flexible ureteroscopic intrapelvic drainage.There were 10 males and eight females.All of the parapelvic renal cysts were unilateral,and two cases were complicated with pyelolithiasis.The diameters of the cysts ranged from 4.1 cm to 8.2 cm.Results:All the patients completed the operation successfully in one stage without conversion to open surgery;in two cases,it was difficult to find the cysts during the operation,and the localization was completed by B-ultrasound and percutaneous injection of methylene blue.The mean operative time was 33.89(SD:9.68;range:22-54)min,and the mean hospitalization time was 2.67(SD:0.91;range:2-5)days.Three months and 6 months of follow-up were performed after surgery.The cysts disappeared in 13(72%)cases,and the diameter of the cysts in five(28%)cases decreased by more than 50%.Conclusion:Holmium laser flexible ureteroscopic intrapelvic drainage in the treatment of parapelvic renal cysts is simple,safe,and effective,and can be used as the first choice for the treatment of parapelvic renal cysts.

Composite Sophora Colon-Soluble Capsule Ameliorates DSS-Induced Ulcerative Colitis in Mice via Gut Microbiota-Derived Butyric Acid and NCR+ ILC3

Objective: To investigate the effects of composite Sophora colon-soluble Capsule(CSCC) on gut microbiota-mediated short-chain fatty acids(SCFAs) production and downstream group 3 innate lymphoid cells(ILC3s) of dextran sulfate sodium(DSS)-induced ulcerative colitis(UC) mice model. Methods: The main components of CSCC were analyzed by hybrid ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography ion mobility spectromety quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry(UHPLC-IM-QTOF/MS). Twenty-four male BALB/c mice were randomly divided into 4 groups(n=6) by using a computer algorithm-generated random digital, including control, DSS model, mesalazine, and CSCC groups. A DSS-induced colitis mice model was established to determine the effects of CSCC by recording colonic weight, colonic length, index of colonic weight, and histological colonic score. The variations in ILC3s were assessed by immunofluorescence and flow cytometry. The results of gut microbiota and SCFAs were acquired by 16s r DNA and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS) analysis. The expression levels of NCR^(+)ILC3^(-), CCR6^(+)Nkp46-(Lti) ILC3^(-), and ILCreg-specific markers were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction and Western blot, respectively. Results: The main components of CSCC were matrine, ammothamnine, Sophora flavescens neoalcohol J, and Sophora oxytol U. After 7 days of treatment, CSCC significantly alleviated colitis by promoting the reproduction of intestinal probiotics manifested as upregulation of the abundance of Bacteroidetes species and specifically the Bacteroidales_S24-7 genus(P<0.05). Among the SCFAs, the content of butyric acid increased the most after CSCC treatment. Meanwhile, compared with the model group, Lti ILC3s and its biomarkers were significantly downregulated and NCR^(+) ILC3s were significantly elevated in the CSCC group(P<0.01). In vitro protective effect of recombinant prominin-1 combined with microRNA-29b on N-methyl-D-aspartateinduced excitotoxicity in retinal ganglion cells

AIM:To determine the in vitro protective effect of recombinant prominin-1(Prominin-1)+microRNA-29b(P1M29)on N-methyl-D-aspartate(NMda)-induced excitotoxicity in retinal ganglion cells(RGCs).METHODS:RGC-5 cells were cultured,and NMdainduced excitotoxicity at the range of 100–800μmol/L was assessed using the MTT assay.NMda(800μmol/L)was selected as the appropriate concentration for preparing the cell model.To evaluate the protective effect of P1M29 on the cell model,Prominin-1 was added at the concentration of 1–6 ng/mL for 48h,and the cell survival was investigated with/without microRNA-29b.After obtaining the appropriate concentration and time of P1M29 at 48h,real-time polymerase chain reaction(PCR)was utilized to detect the relative mRNA expression of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)and transforming growth factor(TGF)-β2.Western blot detection was applied to measure the phosphorylation levels of protein kinase B(AKT)and extracellular regulated protein kinases(ERK)in RGC-5 cells after treatment with Prominin-1.Apoptosis study of the cell model was conducted by flow cytometry for estimating the anti-apoptotic effect of P1M29.Immunofluorescence analysis was used to analyze the expression levels of VEGF and TGF-β2.RESULTS:MTT cytotoxicity assays demonstrated that P1M29 group had significantly higher cell survival rate than Prominin-1 group(Pdata indicated that the expression levels of VEGF were significantly increased in both Prominin-1 and P1M29 groups compared NMda and microRNA-29b group(Pda and Prominin-1 group(Pda and microRNA-29b groups(P<0.05).Flow cytometry analysis revealed that P1M29 could prevent RGC-5 cell apoptosis in the early stage of apoptosis,while immunofluorescence results showed that P1M29 group had higher expression of VE
