A survey of knowledge about hepatitis B among new military recruits in China

Background: Hepatitis B is a disease that affects the liver and is caused by the hepatitis B virus(HBV). Hepatitis B is a serious public health problem in China. The objective of this study was to assess knowledge of and behaviours towards the transmission and prevention of hepatitis B of new military recruits in China.Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 800 new military recruits. A self-administered, structured questionnaire was used to collect information, and 727 questionnaires were returned completed. Analysis was performed using SPSS 18.0, and P<0.05 was considered statistically significant.Results: Of the respondents, 665(91.5%) were male and 62(8.5%) were female. The mean age was 18.9±1.7 years. A total of 608 respondents(83.6%) demonstrated poor knowledge and 119(16.4%) adequate knowledge about HBV. Older age, female and higher education level were statistically associated with a higher mean knowledge score. Multivariate logistic regression showed that age(OR=3.040, 95%CI 1.724–5.359, P<0.001) and gender(OR=1.791, 95%CI 1.325–2.421, P<0.001) were significantly associated with appropriate behavioural practices towards prevention of HBV.Conclusion: Against a backdrop of high HBV prevalence in China, new military recruits had poor knowledge of HBV. New recruits need better education about HBV to assist in reducing and preventing HBV infection.

CD4+CD25+ Regulatory T cells (Treg) have been found to down-regulate immune activation in HIV-1 infection. However,whether the depletion of Treg benefits to the disease status of HIV infection remains undefined. To address this issue,we enumerated the Treg absolute counts and frequency in 75 antiviral-nave HIV-1-infected individuals in this study. It was found that HIV-infected patients displayed a significant decline in Treg absolute counts but a significant increase in Treg frequency. In addition,with disease progression indicated by CD4 T-cell absolute counts,circulating Treg frequency gradually increased; while Treg absolute counts were gradually decreased,suggesting that the alteration of Treg number closely correlated with disease progression in HIV infection. functional analysis further showed that Treg efficiently inhibit both CD4 and CD8 T cell proliferation in vitro. Thus,our findings indicates that Treg actively participate in pathogenesis of chronic HIV infection,influencing the disease progression.

Background:The ongoing global coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic is posing a serious public health threat to nations worldwide.Understanding the pathogenesis of the disease and host immune responses will facilitate the discovery of therapeutic targets and better management of infected patients.Metabolomics technology can provide an unbiased tool to explore metabolic perturbation.Methods:Twenty-six healthy controls and 50 COVID-19 patients with mild,moderate,and severe symptoms in the Fifth Medical Center of PLA General Hospital from January 22 to February 16,2020 were recruited into the study.Fasting blood samples were collected and subject to metabolomics analysis by liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry.Metabolite abundance was measured by peak area and was log-transformed before statistical analysis.The principal component analysis,different expression analysis,and metabolic pathway analysis were performed using R package.Co-regulated metabolites and their associations with clinical indices were identified by the weighted correlation network analysis and Spearman correlation coefficients.The potential metabolite biomarkers were analyzed using a random forest model.Results:We uncovered over 100 metabolites that were associated with COVID-19 disease and many of them correlated with disease severity.Sets of highly correlated metabolites were identified and their correlations with clinical indices were presented.further analyses linked the differential metabolites with biochemical reactions,metabolic pathways,and biomedical MeSH terms,offering contextual insights into disease pathogenesis and host responses.Finally,a panel of metabolites was discovered to be able to discriminate COVID-19 patients from healthy controls,and also another list for mild against more severe cases.Our findings showed that in COVID-19 patients,citrate cycle,sphingosine 1-phosphate in sphingolipid metabolism,and steroid hormone biosynthesis were downregulated,while purine metabolism and tryptophan metabolism were disturbed.Conclu

Treatment of severe Coronavirus Disease 2019(COVID-19)is challenging.We performed a phase 2 trial to assess the efficacy andsafety of human umbilical cord-mesenchymal stem cells(UC-MScs)to treat severe coViD-19 patients with lung damage,based onour phase 1 data.In this randomized,double-blind,and placebo-controlled trial,we recruited 101 severe coVID-19 patients withlung damage.They were randomly assigned at a 2:1 ratio to receive either UC-MSCs(4×10^(7)cells per infusion)or placebo on day 0,3,and 6.The primary endpoint was an altered proportion of whole lung lesion volumes from baseline to day 28.Other imagingoutcomes,6-minute walk test(6-MWT),maximum vital capacity,diffusing capacity,and adverse events were recorded and analyzed.In all,100 COVID-19 patients were finally received either UC-MSCs in=65)or placebo(n=35).UC-MSCs administrationexerted numerical improvement in whole lung lesion volume from baseline to day 28 compared with the placebo(the mediandifference was-13.31%,95%Cl-29.14%,2.13%,P=0.08).UC-MSCs significanty reduced the proportions of solid componentlesion volume compared with the placebo(median difference:-15.45%;95%CI-30.82%,-0.39%;P=0.043).The 6-MWT showedan increased distance in patients treated with UC-MSCs(difference:27.00 m;95%CI 0.00,57.00;P=0.057).The incidence of adverseevents was similar in the two groups.These results suggest that UC-MSCs treatment is a safe and potentially effective therapeuticapproach for COVID-19 patients with lung damage.A phase 3 trial is required to evaluate effects on reducing mortality andpreventing long-term pulmonary disability.

Suprathermal electrons are an important population of the Martian ionosphere, either produced by photoionization of atmospheric neutrals or supplied from the Solar Wind (SW). This study is dedicated to an in-depth investigation of the pitch angle distribution of suprathermal electrons at two representative energies, 19−55 eV and 124−356 eV, using the extensive measurements made by the Solar Wind Electron Analyzer on board the Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution. Throughout the study, we focus on the overall degree of anisotropy, defined as the standard deviation of suprathermal electron intensity among different directions which is normalized by the mean omni-directional intensity. The available data reveal the following characteristics: (1) In general, low energy electrons are more isotropic than high energy electrons, and dayside electrons are more isotropic than nightside electrons;(2) On the dayside, the anisotropy increases with increasing altitude at low energies but remains roughly constant at high energies, whereas on the nightside, the anisotropy decreases with increasing altitude at all energies;(3) Electrons tend to be more isotropic in strongly magnetized regions than in weakly magnetized regions, especially on the nightside. These observations indicate that the anisotropy is a useful diagnostic of suprathermal electron transport, for which the conversion between the parallel and perpendicular momenta as required by the conservation of the first adiabatic invariant, along with the atmospheric absorption at low altitudes, are two crucial factors modulating the observed variation of the anisotropy. Our analysis also highlights the different roles on the observed anisotropy exerted by suprathermal electrons of different origins.

Denoising(DN) and demosaicing(DM) are the first crucial stages in the image signal processing pipeline. Recently, researches pay more attention to solve DN and DM in a joint manner, which is an extremely undetermined inverse problem. Existing deep learning methods learn the desired prior on synthetic dataset, which limits the generalization of learned network to the real world data. Moreover, existing methods mainly focus on the raw data property of high green information sampling rate for DM, but occasionally exploit the high intensity and signalto-noise(SNR) of green channel. In this work, a deep guided attention network(DGAN) is presented for real image joint DN and DM(JDD), which considers both high SNR and high sampling rate of green information for DN and DM, respectively. To ease the training and fully exploit the data property of green channel, we first train DN and DM sub-networks sequentially and then learn them jointly, which can alleviate the error accumulation. Besides, in order to support the real image JDD, we collect paired raw clean RGB and noisy mosaic images to conduct a realistic dataset. The experimental results on real JDD dataset show the presented approach performs better than the state-of-the-art methods, in terms of both quantitative metrics and qualitative visualization.

Geometry characteristics and wide temperature behavior of silicon-based GaN surface acoustic wave resonators with ultrahigh quality factor

Surface acoustic wave(SAW) resonators with an ultrahigh Q-factor are designed and fabricated on silicon-based gallium nitride(GaN/Si). The temperature-dependent performance is characterized over a wide range, from 10 to 500 K. Finite element analysis is employed to guide the design of the SAW resonator from indications of the Rayleigh mode and weak propagation direction dependence of SAW in the c-plane of GaN/Si. The SAW resonator with 100 pairs of interdigital transducers(IDT), 100 pairs of grating reflectors(GR) for each side, aperture size of 80 μm, metallization ratio of 0.5, and electrode width of 500 nm resonates at 1.9133 GHz accordingly with an ultrahigh Q-factor of 7622 at room temperature, which contributes the fr× Qr, up to 14.583×1012Hz. A resonator operating over 10 to 500 K indicates an approximately linear decreasing temperature dependence above 280 K while being approximately constant below 40 K. The fitting to resonator characteristics using the modified Butterworth Van Dyke(m BVD) model reveals a reduction in both the electrode and mechanical losses while worsening the dielectric loss with cooling down.

Optimizing prediction models for pancreatic fistula after pancreatectomy:Current status and future perspectives

Postoperative pancreatic fistula(POPF)is a frequent complication after pancre-atectomy,leading to increased morbidity and mortality.Optimizing prediction models for POPF has emerged as a critical focus in surgical research.Although over sixty models following pancreaticoduodenectomy,predominantly reliant on a variety of clinical,surgical,and radiological parameters,have been documented,their predictive accuracy remains suboptimal in external validation and across diverse populations.As models after distal pancreatectomy continue to be pro-gressively reported,their external validation is eagerly anticipated.Conversely,POPF prediction after central pancreatectomy is in its nascent stage,warranting urgent need for further development and validation.The potential of machine learning and big data analytics offers promising prospects for enhancing the accuracy of prediction models by incorporating an extensive array of variables and optimizing algorithm performance.Moreover,there is potential for the development of personalized prediction models based on patient-or pancreas-specific factors and postoperative serum or drain fluid biomarkers to improve accuracy in identifying individuals at risk of POPF.In the future,prospective multicenter studies and the integration of novel imaging technologies,such as artificial intelligence-based radiomics,may further refine predictive models.Addressing these issues is anticipated to revolutionize risk stratification,clinical decision-making,and postoperative management in patients undergoing pancre-atectomy.

Recent progress of cobalt-based electrocatalysts for water splitting: Electron modulation, surface reconstitution, and applications

Electrocatalytic water splitting is an essential and effective means to produce green hydrogen energy structures,so it is necessary to develop non-precious metal catalysts to replace precious metals.Cobalt-based catalysts present effective alternatives due to the diverse valence states,adjustable electronic structures,and plentiful components.In this review,the catalytic mechanisms of hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)and oxygen evolution reaction(OER)for electrocatalytic water splitting are described.Then,the synthesis strategies of various cobalt-based catalysts are systematically summarized,followed by the relationships between the structure and performance clarified.Subsequently,the effects of d-band center and spin regulation for cobalt-based catalysts are also discussed.furthermore,the dynamic electronic and structural devolution of cobalt-based catalysts are elucidated by combining a series of in-situ characterizations.Finally,we highlight the challenges and future developed directions of cobalt-based catalysts for electrocatalytic water splitting.
