Bibliometric analysis of artificial intelligence and optical coherence tomography images:research hotspots and frontiers

AIM:To explore the latest application of artificial intelligence(AI)in optical coherence tomography(OCT)images,and to analyze the current research status of AI in OCT,and discuss the future research trend.METHODS:On june 1,2023,a bibliometric analysis of the Web of Science Core Collection was performed in order to explore the utilization of AI in OCT imagery.Key parameters such as papers,countries/regions,citations,databases,organizations,keywords,journal names,and research hotspots were extracted and then visualized employing the VOSviewer and CiteSpace V bibliometric platforms.RESULTS:Fifty-five nations reported studies on AI biotechnology and its application in analyzing OCT images.The United States was the country with the largest number of published papers.Furthermore,197 institutions worldwide provided published articles,where University of London had more publications than the rest.The reference clusters from the study could be divided into four categories:thickness and eyes,diabetic retinopathy(DR),images and segmentation,and OCT classification.CONCLUSION:The latest hot topics and future directions in this field are identified,and the dynamic evolution of AIbased OCT imaging are outlined.AI-based OCT imaging holds great potential for revolutionizing clinical care.

BACKGROUND Gait is influenced by race,age,and diseases type.Reference values for gait are closely related to numerous health outcomes.To gain a comprehensive understanding of gait patterns,particularly in relation to race-related pathologies and disorders,it is crucial to establish reference values for gait in daily life considering sex and age.Therefore,our objective was to present sex and age-based reference values for gait in daily life,providing a valuable foundation for further research and clinical applications.AIM To establish reference values for lower extremity joint kinematics and kinetics during gait in asymptomatic adult women and men.METHODS Spatiotemporal,kinematics and kinetics parameters were measured in 171 healthy adults(70 males and 101 females)using the computer-aided soft tissue foot model.Full curve statistical parametric mapping was performed using independent and paired-samples t-tests.RESULTS Compared with females,males required more time(cycle time,double-limb support time,stance time,swing time,and stride time),and the differences were statistically significant.In addition,the step and stride lengths of males were longer.Compared to males,female cadence was faster,and statures-per-second and stride-per-minute were higher.There were no statistical differences in speed and stride width between the two groups.After adjusting for height,it was observed that women walked significantly faster than men,and they also had a higher cadence.However,in terms of step length,stride length,and stride width,both genders exhibited similarities.CONCLUSION We established reference values for gait speed and spatiotemporal gait parameters in Chinese university students.This contributes to a valuable database for gait assessment and evaluation of preventive or rehabilitative programs.

An iron-catalyzed dearomative amination of β-naphthols via a nitrene-transfer process has been developed.Oxadiazolones,which have rarely been applied for the synthesis of amidines,are used as the nitrene source.A variety of amidines bearing β-naphthalenone moieties were generated smoothly in good to high yields(up to 98%)in the presence of 1.5 equivalents of tetrabutylammonium bromide,which was added as an essential additive.

Expression and significance of MMP3 in synovium of knee joint at different stage in osteoarthritis patients

Objective:To investigate the expression and significance of MMP-3 in synovium of knee joint at different stage in osteoarthritis(OA)patients.Methods:Knee synovial tissue were collected in90 OA patients(the OA group).Patients in the OA group was divided into 3 subgroups:gradeⅠsubgroup(n=30),gradeⅡsubgroup(n=30),gradeⅢsubgroup(n=30).Thirty patients served as control group,lmmunohistochemical assay was used to detect the expression of MMP-3 protein in the knee synovial tissue.Results:MMP-3 protein was detected in all knee synovial tissue.The expression of MMP-3 protein in the OA group was significantly higher that in the normal synovium(P<0.05),and the MMP-3 protein was mainly located in the cytoplasm.There was significant difference in the expression of MMP-3 protein between the gradeⅢsubgroup and the gradeⅠ,gradeⅡsubgroups(all P<0.05).The expression of MMP-3 protein was positively related to the severity of OA(r=0.912,P<0.05).Conclusions:The expression of MMP-3 protein are closely related to pathogenic mechanism of OA.It may be an important indicator of early diagnosis and the activity of the disease of osteoarthritis.

Extramammary Paget disease(EMPD)is an uncommon intraepithelial adenocarcinoma that tends to occur in regions with an abundance of apocrine glands.EMPD typically affects older individuals aged 50 to 80 years.The most commonly affected area of EMPD is the vulva;it accounts for 1%to 2%of vulvar malignancies.[1]The most common symptoms are chronic itching,vulvar pain,and erythema.However,symptoms can vary,and patients can remain asymptomatic for years.The typical feature of vulvar Paget’s disease(VPD)is an"icing cake effect"on the skin.[2]This disease is often misdiagnosed as eczema.Treatment delay is usually more than 2 years,and treatment can sometimes result in failure with a high recurrence rate.

Distributed H_∞ PID Feedback for Improving Consensus Performance of Arbitrary-delayed Multi-agent System

The H∞ proportional-integral-differential(PID) feedback for arbitrary-order delayed multi-agent system is investigated to improve the system performance. The closed-loop multi-input multi-output(MIMO) control framework with the distributed PID controller is firstly described for the multi-agent system in a unified way. Then, by using the matrix theory, the prescribed H∞performance criterion of the multi-agent system is shown to be equivalent to several independent H∞ performance constraints of the single-input single-output(SISO) subsystem with respect to the eigenvalues of the Laplacian matrix. Subsequently, for each subsystem,the set of the PID controllers satisfying the required H∞ performance constraint is analytically characterized based on the extended Hermite-Biehler theorem. Finally, the three-dimensional set of the decentralized H∞ PID control parameters is derived by finding the intersection of the H∞ PID regions for all the decomposed subsystems. The simulation results reveal the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Offspring of rats with cerebral hypoxia-ischemia manifest cognitive dysfunction in learning and memory abilities

Neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy is a serious neurological disease,often resulting in long-term neurodevelopmental disorders among surviving children.However,whether these neurodevelopmental issues can be passed to offspring remains unclear.The right common carotid artery of 7-day-old parental-generation rats was subjected to permanent ligation using a vessel electrocoagulator.Neonatal hypoxic-ischemic rat models were established by subjecting the rats to 8%O2–92%N2 for 2 hours.The results showed that 24 hours after hypoxia and ischemia,pathological damage,cerebral atrophy,liquefaction,and impairment were found,and Zea-Longa scores were significantly increased.The parental-generation rats were propagated at 3 months old,and offspring were obtained.No changes in the overall brain structures of these offspring rats were identified by magnetic resonance imaging.However,the escape latency was longer and the number of platform crossings was reduced among these offspring compared with normal rats.These results indicated that the offspring of hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy model rats displayed cognitive impairments in learning and memory.This study was approved by the Animal Care&Welfare Committee of Kunming Medical University,China in 2018(approval No.kmmu2019072).

Remote ischemic perconditioning prevents liver transplantation-induced ischemia/reperfusion injury in rats: Role of ROS/RNS and e NOS

AIM To investigate the underlying mechanisms of the protective role of remote ischemic perconditioning(RIPerC) in rat liver transplantation. METHODS Sprague-Dawley rats were subjected to sham, orthotopic liver transplantation(OLT), ischemic postconditioning(IPostC) or RIPerC. After 3 h reperfusion, blood samples were taken for measurement of alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, creatinine(Cr) and creatinine kinase-myocardial band(CK-MB). The liver lobes were harvested for the following measurements: reactive oxygen species(ROS), H2O2, mitochondrial membrane potential(ΔΨm) and total nitric oxide(NO). These measurements were determined using an ROS/H2O2, JC1 and Total NOx Assay Kit, respectively. Endothelial NO synthase(e NOS) was analyzed by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction(RTPCR) and western blotting, and peroxynitrite was semiquantified by western blotting of 3-nitrotyrosine. RESULTS Compared with the OLT group, the grafts subjected to RIPerC showed significantly improved liver and remote organ functions(P < 0.05). ROS(P < 0.001) including H2O2(P < 0.05) were largely elevated in the OLT group as compared with the sham group, and RIPerC(P < 0.05) reversed this trend. The collapse of ΔΨm induced by OLT ischemia/reperfusion(I/R) injury was significantly attenuated in the RIPerC group(P < 0.001). A marked increase of NO content and phosphoserine eN OS, both in protein and mR NA levels, was observed in liver graft of the RIPer C group as compared with the OLT group(P < 0.05). I/R-induced 3-nitrotyrosine content was significantly reduced in the RIPerC group as compared with the OLT group(P < 0.05). There were no significant differences between the RIPerC and IPostC groups for all the results except Cr. The Cr level was lower in the RIPerC group than in the IPostC group(P < 0.01).CONCLUSION Liver graft protection by RIPerC is similar to or better than that of IPostC, and involves inhibition of oxidative stress and up-regulation of the PI3K/Akt/e NOS/NO pathway.

Development of a class-specific polyclonal antibody-based indirect competitive ELISA for detecting fluoroquinolone residues in milk

Modified 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)carbodiimide(EDC)method was employed to synthesize the artificial antigen of norfloxacin(NOR),and New Zealand rabbits were used to produce anti-NOR polyclonal antibody(pAb).Based on the checkerboard titration,an indirect competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(icELISA) standard curve was established.This assay was sensitive and had a working range from 0.12 to 68.40 ng/ml,with the half maximal inhibitory concentration(IC50)and limit of detection(LOD)values of 2.7 ng/ml and 0.06 ng/ml,respectively.The produced pAb exhibited high cross-reactivity to fluoroquinolones(FQs)tested,and the IC50 values to enoxacin,ciprofloxacin,and pefloxacin were 3.1,3.4,and 4.1 ng/ml,respectively.It also indicated that the concentrations of NaOH and methanol in assay buffer should not be higher than 10%and 30%.When spiked in milk at 5,20,and 50 ng/ml,the recoveries for NOR,enoxacin,ciprofloxacin,and pefloxacin ranged 90.5%-98.0%,84.0%-95.2%,94.0%-106.0%,and 89.5%-100.0%,respectively.The results suggest that this class-specific pAb-based icELISA could be utilized for the primary screening of FQ residues in animal-original products.

Folate binding protein—Outlook for drug delivery applications

Serum proteins represent an important class of drug and imaging agent delivery vectors. In this mini- review, key advantages of using serum proteins are discussed, followed by the particular advantages and challenges associated with employing soluble folate binding protein. In particular, approaches employing drugs that target folate metabolism are reviewed. Additionally, the slow-onset, tight- binding interaction of folate with folate binding protein and the relationship to a natural oligomerization mechanism is discussed. These unique aspects of folate binding protein suggest interesting applications for the protein as a vector for further drug and imaging agent development.
