The aim of this work is to investigate the hydrogen-bonding interaction in poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA)/poly(acrylic acid)(PAA) blending system and its influence on rheological properties in solution and the physical properties in solid state. Introducing PAA into PVA solutions resulted in a thickening behavior of blend solutions.The viscosity of the solutions increased with PAA content increasing,and a maximum viscosity could be obtained when the ratio of PVA/PAA was 70/30. The intermolecular hydrogen-bonding and miscibility between PVA and PAA in solid state were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC),Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR) and mechanical measurements.The results displayed the great influence of introducing PAA on the properties of blending films.The tensile strength increased from 89.31 MPa to 119.8 MPa and Young’s modulus improved by over 300%with increasing PAA concentration compared with those of pure PVA films.By systematically studying the rheological behaviors of solutions and the physical properties of films,the influence of hydrogen-bonding in solutions and solid states were discussed.

In this paper, we consider the partially nonlinear errors-in-variables models when the non- parametric component is measured with additive error. The profile nonlinear least squares estimator of unknown parameter and the estimator of nonparametric component are constructed, and their asymptotic properties are derived under general assumptions. Finite sample performances of the proposed statistical inference procedures are illustrated by Monte Carlo simulation studies.

Dark photons have been well motivated as strong candidates for dark force carriers and light dark matter in the sub-GeV mass range.Compared with collider experiments,fixed-target experiments provide a complementary approach to searching for dark photons,particularly in the lower mass range.We have studied the physics potential of the electron-on-target experiment based on the Shanghai SHINE facility,which provides 10 MHz single electron beam at 8 GeV energy.This analysis focuses on dark photons being produced via electron and nucleon interaction and then decays to dark matter candidates,which escape detection as missing momentum in the detector.This experiment takes advantage of using missing momentum to enhance signal versus background separation power.In this study,signal samples as a function of dark photon mass and an inclusive background sample with 2.5 billion events are simulated with GEANT4.For better background estimates,major rare background processes have also been simulated.This paper presents the experiment and detector design,signal and background simulations,analysis strategy,and the prospective study of the experiment sensitivity.With 9×10^(14) electron-on-target events(about three years running),this experiment is expected to rule out most of the sensitive regions predicted by popular dark photon models.

AIM To evaluate the long-term effectiveness and late toxicities of paclitaxel(PTX) plus cisplatin(DDP) with concurrent radiotherapy for locally advanced esophageal squamous cancer.METHODS Between 2008 and 2011, 76 patients were enrolled in a phase Ⅱ study on the treatment of loco-regionally advanced esophageal cancer with radiotherapy(68.4 Gy/44 fractions or 61.2 Gy/34 fractions) combined with 4-cycle chemotherapy consisting of DDP(25 mg/m^2 per day for 3 d) and PTX(175 mg/m^2 for 3 h). The primary endpoints were overall survival and progression-free survival, and the secondary endpoints were toxicity and the treatment failure pattern.RESULTS A total of 76 patients were enrolled in this study, of whom 63.2% finished the whole regimen. The 5-year survival rates for the per-protocol population and intent-to-treat population were 25.4% and 26.4%, respectively, and the median survival rates were 23.7 mo and 28.5 mo, respectively. Grade 3 or 4 late toxicity was observed in only one patient(heart failure). In log-rank analysis, the pretreatment stage(stage Ⅱ + Ⅲ: 36.1 mo vs stage Ⅳ: 14.9 mo) and the completed cycle(1-3 cycles: 16.1 mo vs 4 cycles: 35.5 mo) were significant prognostic factors(P = 0.037 < 0.05 and P = 0.013 < 0.05).CONCLUSION Radiotherapy combined with chemotherapy consisting of PTX and DDP is a safe and effective definitive treatment for loco-regionally advanced esophageal squamous cancer.

A fast approach was described for the synthesis of water-dispersible monodisperse dopamine-coated Fe304 nanoparticles （DA- Fe304） with uniform size and shape via ligand-exchange of oleic acid on Fe304 using only 2 min. The prepared DA-Fe304 nanoparticles were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectrometry, and vibrating sample magnetometer. The results indicated that the resulting DA-Fe304 nanoparticles had an average diameter of about 19.2 nm. The magnetic saturation value of the prepared DA-Fe304 nanoparticles was determined to be 72.87 emu/g, which indicating a well- established superparamagnetic property.

AIM:To investigate the causal gene mutation and clinical characteristics for two Chinese families with autosomal dominant congenital coralliform cataract.METHODS:Two Chinese pedigrees with congenital cataract were investigated.Routine ophthalmic examinations were performed on all patients and non-affected family members.Peripheral blood samples were collected,and the genomic DNAs were extracted.The coding regions of proband’s DNAs were analyzed with cataract gene panel.The identified mutation was amplified by polymerase chain reaction,and automated sequencing was performed in other members of two families to verify whether the mutated gene was co-segregated with the disease.RESULTS:Congenital coralliform cataract was inherited in an autosomal dominant mode in both pedigrees.For each family,more than half of the family members were affected.All patients presented with severe visual impairment after birth as a result of bilateral symmetric coralliform lens opacification.An exact the same defect in the same gene,a heterozygous mutation of c.70 C>A(p.P24 T)in exon 2 of γ Dcrystallin gene,was detected in both probands from each family.Sanger sequencing analysis demonstrated that the mutated CRYGD was co-segregated in these two families.CONCLUSION:A c.70 C>A(p.P24 T)variant in CRYGD gene was reconfirmed to be the causal gene in two Chinese pedigrees.It is known that mutated CRYGD caused most of the congenital coralliform cataracts,suggesting that the CRYGD gene is associated with coralliform congenital cataract.

Molting and metamorphosis are important physiological processes in insects that are tightly controlled by ecdysone receptor(EcR)through the 20-hydroxyecdysone(20E)signaling pathway.EcR is a steroid nuclear receptor(SR).Several FK506-binding proteins(FKBPs)have been identified from the mammal SR complex,and are thought to be involved in the subcellular trafficking of SR.However,their roles in insects are poorly understood.To explore whether FKBPs are involved in insect molting or metamorphosis,we injected an FKBP inhibitor(FK506)into a lepidopteran insect,Spodoptera litura,and found that molting was inhibited in 61.11%of the larvae,and that the time for larvae to pupate was significantly extended.A total of 10 FKBP genes were identified from the genome of s.litura and were clustered into 2 distinct groups,according to their subcellular localization,with FKBP13 and FKBP14 belonging to the endoplasmic reticulum(ER)group and with the other members belonging to the cytoplasmic(Cy)group.All the CyFKBPs were significantly upregulated in the prepupal or pupal stages,with the opposite being observed for the ER group members.FK506 completely blocked the transfer of EcR to the nucleus under 20E induction,and significantly downregulated the transcriptional expression of many 20E signaling genes.A similar phenomenon was observed after RNA interference of2 CyFKBPs(FKBP45 and FKBP12b),but not for FKBP13.Taken together,our data indicate that the cytoplasmic FKBPs,especially FKBP45 and FKBP12b,mediate the nuclear localization of EcR,thereby regulating the 20E signaling and ultimately affecting molting and metamorphosis in insects.

Cell replacement therapy using neural progenitor cells(NPCs)has been shown to be an effective treatment for ischemic stroke.However,the therapeutic effect is unsatisfactory due to the imbalanced homeostasis of the local microenvironment after ischemia.Microenvironmental acidosis is a common imbalanced homeostasis in the penumbra and could activate acid-sensing ion channels 1a(ASIC1a),a subunit of proton-gated cation channels following ischemic stroke.However,the role of ASIC1a in NPCs post-ischemia remains elusive.Here,our results indicated that ASIC1a was expressed in NPCs with channel functionality,which could be activated by extracellular acidification.Further evidence revealed that ASIC1a activation inhibited NPC migration and neurogenesis through RhoA signaling-mediated reorganization of filopodia formation,which could be primarily reversed by pharmacological or genetic disruption of ASIC1a.In vivo data showed that the knockout of the ASIC1a gene facilitated NPC migration and neurogenesis in the penumbra to improve behavioral recovery after stroke.
