Biological structural materials,despite consisting of limited kinds of compounds,display multifunctionalities due to their complex hierarchical *** some biomimetic strategies have been applied in artificial materials to enhance their mechanical stability,the simultaneous optimization of other functions along with the mechanical properties via biomimetic designs has not been thoroughly ***,iron oxide/carbon nanotube(CNT)-based artificial nacre with both improved mechanical and electromagnetic interference(EMI)shielding performance is fabricated via the mineralization of Fe_(3)O_(4)onto a CNTincorporated *** micro-and nano-structures of the artificial nacre are similar to those of natural nacre,which in turn improves its mechanical *** alternating electromagnetic wave-reflective CNT layers and the wave-absorptive iron oxide layers can improve the multiple reflections of the waves on the surfaces of the reflection layers,which then allows sufficient interactions between the waves and the absorption ***,compared with the reflection-dependent EMI-shielding of the non-structured material,the artificial nacre exhibits strong absorption-dependent shielding behavior even with a very low content of wave-absorptive *** to the high mechanical stability,the shielding effectiveness of the artificial nacre that deeply cut by a blade is still maintained at approximately 70%−96%depending on the incident wave *** present work provides a new way for designing structural materials with concurrently enhanced mechanical and functional properties,and a path to combine structural design and intrinsic properties of specific materials via a biomimetic strategy.

BACKGROUND Accumulating evidence has shown that adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells(ADSCs)are an effective therapeutic approach for managing coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19);however,further elucidation is required to determine their underlying immunomodulatory effect on the mRNA expression of T helper cell-related transcription factors(TFs)and cytokine release in peripheral blood mononuclear cells(PBMCs).AIM To investigate the impact of ADSCs on the mRNA expression of TFs and cytokine release in PBMCs from colorectal cancer(CRC)patients with severe COVID-19(CRC^(+)patients).METHODS PBMCs from CRC^(+)patients(PBMCs-C+)and age-matched CRC patients(PBMCs-C)were stimulated and cultured in the presence/absence of *** mRNA levels of T-box TF TBX21(T-bet),GATA binding protein 3(GATA-3),RAR-related orphan receptor C(RORC),and forkhead box P3(FoxP3)in the PBMCs were determined by reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain *** supernatants were evaluated for levels of interferon gamma(IFN-γ),interleukin 4(IL-4),IL-17A,and transforming growth factor beta 1(TGF-β1)using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent *** Compared with PBMCs-C,PBMCs-C+exhibited higher mRNA levels of T-bet and RORC,and increased levels of IFN-γ and ***,a significant decrease in FoxP3 mRNA and TGF-β1,as well as an increase in Tbet/GATA-3,RORC/FoxP3,IFN-γ/IL-4,and IL-17A/TGF-β1 ratios were observed in PBMCs-C+.Furthermore,ADSCs significantly induced a functional regulatory T cell(Treg)subset,as evidenced by an increase in FoxP3 mRNA and TGF-β1 release *** was accompanied by a significant decrease in the mRNA levels of T-bet and RORC,release of IFN-γ and IL-17A,and T-bet/GATA-3,RORC/FoxP3,IFN-γ/IL-4,and IL-17A/TGF-β1 ratios,compared with the PBMCs-C+*** The present in vitro studies showed that ADSCs contributed to the immunosuppressive effects on PBMCs-C+,favoring Treg ***,ADSC-based cell therapy could be a beneficial approach for p

Acetaminophen(APAP),the most frequently used mild analgesic and antipyretic drug worldwide,is implicated in causing 46%of all acute liver failures in the USA and between 40%and 70%in *** predominant pharmacological intervention approved for mitigating such overdose is the antioxidant N-acetylcysteine(NAC);however,its efficacy is limited in cases of advanced liver injury or when administered at a late *** the current study,we discovered that treatment with a moderate intensity static magnetic field(SMF)notably reduced the mortality rate in mice subjected to high-dose APAP from 40%to 0%,proving effective at both the initial liver injury stage and the subsequent recovery *** the early phase of liver injury,SMF markedly reduced APAPinduced oxidative stress,free radicals,and liver damage,resulting in a reduction in multiple oxidative stress markers and an increase in the antioxidant glutathione(GSH).During the later stage of liver recovery,application of vertically downward SMF increased DNA synthesis and hepatocyte ***,the combination of NAC and SMF significantly mitigated liver damage induced by high-dose APAP and increased liver recovery,even 24 h post overdose,when the effectiveness of NAC alone substantially ***,this study provides a noninvasive non-pharmaceutical tool that offers dual benefits in the injury and repair stages following APAP *** note,this tool can work as an alternative to or in combination with NAC to prevent or minimize liver damage induced by APAP,and potentially other toxic overdoses.

The development of zero and negative therma expansion(i.e.,ZTE and NTE)materials is of crucial importance to the control of undesirable thermal expansion for high-precision *** the present work,ZTE and NTE were obtained in directionally-solidified Mn_(x)Fe_(5-x)Si_(3)alloys with a strongtexture,in striking contrast to positive thermal expansion in their isotropic counterparts Magnetometry and in-situ X-ray diffraction(XRD)measurements were performed to uncover the origin of the anomalous thermal *** measurements indicate a strong easy-plane magnetocrystalline anisotropy in the textured samples,where the magnetic moments are aligned within the ab plane of the hexagonal structure Temperature-dependent XRD on the x=1 sample reveals a ZTE character in the ab plane that is coupled to a ferromagnetic *** a result,the macroscopic ZTE(~0.22×10^(-6)K^(-1))in the x=1 sample can be attributed to the microscopic magneto volume effect within the ab plane,which is realized by the introduction of the-textured ***,the competition between antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic exchange coupling leads to NTE in textured x=1.5 and 2 ***,textured x=1 sample displays enhanced magnetocaloric properties as compared to the conventional counterparts with randomly-oriented *** this work demonstrates a new strategy toward the exploration of anomalous thermal expansion properties as well as the enhancement of magnetocaloric properties for materials with a strong magnetocrystalline anisotropy.

A 1∶8 physical water model was constructed to investigate the fluid flow and mixing phenomena in the basic oxygen furnace(BOF)*** particle image velocimetry was employed to measure the velocity distribution of the bath and the high-speed camera was applied to capture the cavity shape in the combined blowing BOF *** mixing time for varied operating conditions was measured by the stimulus-response *** cavity depth increased with the decrease in the lance height and the increase in the top gas flow rate while the bottom blowing gas had little influence on the cavity *** minimum cavity depth was obtained under the condition of a 69.8 m^(3)/h top gas flow rate,a 287.5 mm lance height and a 0.93 m^(3)/h bottom blowing gas flow rate,which was 161.2 *** mixing time decreased as the lance height decreased and the top blowing gas flow rate *** mixing time was first decreased and then increased with the increase in the bottom gas flow *** the condition of 69.8 m^(3)/h gas flow rate of top blowing,the 287.5 mm lance height and the 0.93 m^(3)/h gas flow rate of bottom blowing,the mixing time in the converter was 48.65 *** empirical formula between the stirring power and the mixing time in the converter was calculated.

The state of in situ stress is a crucial parameter in subsurface engineering,especially for critical projects like nuclear waste *** one of the two ISRM suggested methods,the overcoring(OC)method is widely used to estimate the full stress tensors in rocks by independent regression analysis of the data from each OC ***,such customary independent analysis of individual OC tests,known as no pooling,is liable to yield unreliable test-specific stress estimates due to various uncertainty sources involved in the OC *** address this problem,a practical and no-cost solution is considered by incorporating into OC data analysis additional information implied within adjacent OC tests,which are usually available in OC measurement ***,this paper presents a Bayesian partial pooling(hierarchical)model for combined analysis of adjacent OC *** performed five case studies using OC test data made at a nuclear waste repository research site of *** results demonstrate that partial pooling of adjacent OC tests indeed allows borrowing of information across adjacent tests,and yields improved stress tensor estimates with reduced uncertainties simultaneously for all individual tests than they are independently analysed as no pooling,particularly for those unreliable no pooling stress estimates.A further model comparison shows that the partial pooling model also gives better predictive performance,and thus confirms that the information borrowed across adjacent OC tests is relevant and effective.

Audio mixing is a crucial part of music *** analyzing or recreating audio mixing,it is of great importance to conduct research on estimating mixing parameters used to create mixdowns from music recordings,i.e.,audio mixing ***,approaches of audio mixing inversion are rarely explored.A method of estimating mixing parameters from raw tracks and a stereo mixdown via embodied self-supervised learning is *** this work,several commonly used audio effects including gain,pan,equalization,reverb,and compression,are taken into *** method is able to learn an inference neural network that takes a stereo mixdown and the raw audio sources as input and estimate mixing parameters used to create the mixdown by iteratively sampling and *** the sampling step,the inference network predicts a set of mixing parameters,which is sampled and fed to an audio-processing framework to generate audio data for the training *** the training step,the same network used in the sampling step is optimized with the sampled data generated from the sampling *** method is able to explicitly model the mixing process in an interpretable way instead of using a black-box neural network model.A set of objective measures are used for *** experimental results show that this method has better performance than current state-of-the-art methods.

Tripartite motif 21(TRIM21)is an E3 ubiquitin ligase that shows great promise for protein degradation through ***,ultrasmall chiral gold nanoparticles(D-or L-NPs)modified by D-or L-glutathione ligands were *** conjugated with an NLR family pyrin domain-containing protein 3(NLRP3)antibody(D-NP-a NLRP3 or L-NP-a NLRP3),DNP-a NLRP3 showed effective delivery efficiency of the antibody into microglia and prevented Aβ-mediated microglia senescence,and p16^(ink4a),a marker of senescence,in the microglia was reduced by 90.3%±7.8% while L-NP-a NLRP3 decreased by 48.01%±3.1%.Mechanistic investigations revealed that the D-NP-a NLRP3((1.5±0.3)×10^(7)M^(-1))exhibited sixteen-fold larger binding affinity to transmembrane glycoprotein SLC3A2 than L-type((9.5±2.7)×10^(5)M^(-1)),which led to a high efficiency of antibody delivery and TRIM21-dependent NLRP3 ***,the blood-brain barrier(BBB)-crossing ability of chiral NP-a NLRP3 as well as NLRP3 degradation was demonstrated in *** APP/PS1 Alzheimer's disease(AD)model mice experiments exhibited a reduction of 89.7%±6.8% for the NLRP3 protein and 84.2±7.5% for p16^(ink4a)following the intravenous administration of D-NP-a NLRP3 once a week for 60 ***,the levels of the AD markers Aβ and phosphorylatedTau in the brains were reduced by 86.2%±8.2% and 81.6%±9.1%;these were 2.1-fold and 1.9-fold higher than those treated with L-NP-a NLRP3,*** studies provide a method to rescue AD-like pathologies and prevent senescence.

Clinical prediction of insufficient vaults after implantable collamer lens implantation

AIM:To determine the factors related to preoperative ocular characters that are predictive of insufficient vault(<250μm)after implantable collamer lens(ICL V4c;STAAR Surgical)***:The participants underwent ICL surgery and were divided into the low(<250μm)and normal(250-1000μm)vault groups based on the postoperative vault at *** preoperative biometric parameters and clinical outcomes were compared between the two *** relationship between the 3-month vault values and preoperative ocular parameters were evaluated by Generalized estimating ***:Sixteen(23 eyes)and 36 patients(63 eyes)were in the low and normal vault groups,*** implantation procedures were uneventful with no cataract formation in the early postoperative *** sulcusto-sulcus lens rise(STSL)and iris ciliary angle(ICA)were correlated with vault at 3mo after *** 0.1 mm increase in STSL was associated with 38.9μm decrease in the postoperative 3-month vault.A rise of 1 degree in ICA is associated with a reduction of 4μm in ***:Eyes with a narrow ciliary sulcus are associated with a higher rate of low vault after ICL implantation,suggesting a need for adjustments to the ICL size in these *** the characteristics of the ciliary sulcus contributes valuable information to predict low vault after surgery.
