This study presents the numerical evaluation about the impact of flow disturbance near the intrados and extrados regions of the 90 degree bended elbow using CFX for several practical cases where the 90 degree bended upward elbow is located in a proximity to the butterfly valve and the butterfly valve open angle is changed. For the change of a butterfly valve open angle from 60% to 100% and the increase of the distance between a valve and a 90 degree bended elbow, the effect of FAC (Flow-Accelerated Corrosion) in the 90 degree bended elbow may be neglected because the value and distribution of the velocity and shear stress is rapidly decreased comparing with the present status installed in an industry, and the data of 100% valve open (Case 3) and L/D ≈ 5 (Case 4) are very good agreement comparing with the reference data, L/D ≈ 8 (Case 2). The reasons are that flow already maintains a fully developed condition and a steady state in spite of less distance than the reference case, L/D = 8. Therefore, smooth flow fields have approached at a 90 degree bended elbow. Then, the effect of shear stress and vortex is hardly investigated around the intrados area of 90 degree bended elbow.

A Novel Design of a Pre-separation Panel Structure to Protect Against the Impact of an Explosion in an Aircraft Plenum Chamber

To reduce the damage of the pressurizing panel structure of a fuselage caused by an explosion at the“least risk bomb location”in an aircraft structure,a new pre-separation panel structure was designed to resist blast loading.First,the dynamic strain response and morphology of impact damage of the new pre-separation panel were measured in an impact damage test.Second,the commercial software LS-DYNA was used to calculate the propagation of the blast shock wave,and the results were compared with empirical equations to verify the rationality of the numerical calculation method.Finally,the fluid–structure coupling method was used to calculate the damage process of the pre-separation panel structure under the impact of an explosion wave and an impact block.The calculated results were in good agreement with the test results,which showed the rationality of the calculation method and the model.The residual strength of the damaged pre-separation panel was significantly higher than that of the original damaged panel.The results show that the new pre-separation panel structure is reasonable and has certain significance for guiding the design of plenum chambers with strong resistance to implosion for aircraft fuselages.

Deflagration and detonation induced by shock wave focusing at different Mach numbers

Shock wave focusing is an effective way to create a hot spot or a high-pressure and hightemperature region at a certain place,showing its unique usage in detonation initiation,which is beneficial for the development of detonation-based engines.The flame propagation behavior after the autoignition induced by shock wave focusing is crucial to the formation and self-sustaining of the detonation wave.In this study,wedge reflectors with two different angles(60°and 90°)and a planar reflector are employed,and the Mach number of incident shock waves ranging from 2.0 to 2.8 is utilized to trigger different flame propagation modes.Dynamic pressure transducers and the high-speed schlieren imaging system are both employed to investigate the shock-shock collision and ignition procedure.The results reveal a total of four flame propagation modes:deflagration,DDT(Deflagration-to-Detonation Transition),unsteady detonation,and direct detonation.The detonation wave formed in the DDT and unsteady detonation mode is only approximately 75%-85%of the Chapman-Jouguet(C-J)speed;meanwhile,the directly induced detonation wave speed is close to the C-J speed.Transverse waves,which are strong evidence for the existence of detonation waves,are discovered in experiments.The usage of wedge reflectors significantly reduces the initial pressure difference ratio needed for direct detonation ignition.We also provide a practical method for differentiating between detonation and deflagration modes,which involves contrasting the speed of the reflected shock wave with the speed of the theoretically nonreactive reflected shock wave.These findings should serve as a reference for the detonation initiation technique in advanced detonation propulsion engines.

Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is a prevalent and aggressive liver malignancy.The interplay between bile acids(BAs)and the gut microbiota has emerged as a critical factor in HCC development and progression.Under normal conditions,BA metabolism is tightly regulated through a bidirectional interplay between gut microorganisms and BAs.The gut microbiota plays a critical role in BA metabolism,and BAs are endogenous signaling molecules that help maintain liver and intestinal homeostasis.Of note,dysbiotic changes in the gut microbiota during pathogenesis and cancer development can disrupt BA homeostasis,thereby leading to liver inflammation and fibrosis,and ultimately contributing to HCC development.Therefore,understanding the intricate interplay between BAs and the gut microbiota is crucial for elucidating the mechanisms underlying hepatocarcinogenesis.In this review,we comprehensively explore the roles and functions of BA metabolism,with a focus on the interactions between BAs and gut microorganisms in HCC.Additionally,therapeutic strategies targeting BA metabolism and the gut microbiota are discussed,including the use of BA agonists/antagonists,probiotic/prebiotic and dietary interventions,fecal microbiota transplantation,and engineered bacteria.In summary,understanding the complex BA-microbiota crosstalk can provide valuable insights into HCC development and facilitate the development of innovative therapeutic approaches for liver malignancy.

Learning in games:a systematic review

Game theory studies the mathematical models for self-interested individuals. Nash equilibrium is arguably the most central solution in game theory. While finding the Nash equilibrium in general is known as polynomial parity arguments on directed graphs(PPAD)-complete, learning in games provides an alternative to approximate Nash equilibrium, which iteratively updates the player's strategy through interactions with other players. Rules and models have been developed for learning in games, such as fictitious play and no-regret learning. Particularly, with recent advances in online learning and deep reinforcement learning,techniques from these fields greatly boost the breakthroughs in learning in games from theory to application.As a result, we have witnessed many superhuman game AI systems. The techniques used in these systems evolve from conventional search and learning to purely reinforcement learning(RL)-style learning methods,gradually getting rid of the domain knowledge. In this article, we systematically review the above techniques,discuss the trend of basic learning rules towards a unified framework, and recap applications in large games.Finally, we discuss some future directions and make the prospect of future game AI systems. We hope this article will give some insights into designing novel approaches.

In this study, the effect of extreme laser fields on the α decay process of ground-state even–even nuclei was investigated.Using the deformed Gamow-like model, we found that state-of-the-art lasers can cause a slight change in the α decay penetration probability of most nuclei. In addition, we studied the correlation between the rate of change of the α decay penetration probability and angle between the directions of the laser electric field and α particle emission for different nuclei. Based on this correlation, the average effect of extreme laser fields on the half-life of many nuclei with arbitrary α particle emission angles was calculated. The calculations show that the laser suppression and promotion effects on the α decay penetration probability of the nuclei population with completely random α particle-emission directions are not completely canceled.The remainder led to a change in the average penetration probability of the nuclei. Furthermore, the possibility of achieving a higher average rate of change by altering the spatial shape of the laser is explored. We conclude that circularly polarized lasers may be helpful in future experiments to achieve a more significant average rate of change of the α decay half-life of the nuclei population.

Lithium-sulfur(Li-S)batteries have been regarded as a promising next-generation energy storage system owing to the high theoretical energy density and natural abundance of sulfur.Abundant fundamental researches have pushed the flourishing development on electrochemical behaviors in recent 20 years.It is time to evolve into post-Li-S battery era with the pursuit towards practical application.During the landmark leap,numerous new challenges appear under harsh conditions,such as high sulfur loading,low cathode density,lean electrolyte and limited lithium reservoir.Herein,we summarize the considerable parameters of pouch Li-S cells and review the pioneering studies focused on the cathode structure,conversion kinetics,electrode interphase and battery safety.The interwoven relationship of these key points is concluded and discussed,which provides guidance to future researches aiming to safe and long-lifespan Li-S batteries with high energy density.

Nonlinear circuits can show multistability when a magnetic flux-dependent memristor(MFDM) or a charge-sensitive memristor(CSM) is incorporated into a one branch circuit,which helps estimate magnetic or electric field effects.In this paper,two different kinds of memristors are incorporated into two branch circuits composed of a capacitor and a nonlinear resistor,thus a memristive circuit with double memristive channels is designed.The circuit equations are presented,and the dynamics in this oscillator with two memristive terms are discussed.Then,the memristive oscillator is converted into a memristive map by applying linear transformation on the sampled time series for the memristive oscillator.The Hamilton energy function for the memristive oscillator is obtained by using the Helmholtz theorem,and it can be mapped from the field energy of the memristive circuit.An energy function for the dual memristive map is suggested by imposing suitable weights on the discrete energy function.The dynamical behaviors of the new memristive map are investigated,and an adaptive law is proposed to regulate the firing mode in the memristive map.This work will provide a theoretical basis and experimental guidance for oscillator-to-map transformation and discrete map energy calculation.

Mathematical models can produce desired dynamics and statistical properties with the insertion of suitable nonlinear terms,while energy characteristics are crucial for practical application because any hardware realizations of nonlinear systems are relative to energy flow.The involvement of memristive terms relative to memristors enables multistability and initial-dependent property in memristive systems.In this study,two kinds of memristors are used to couple a capacitor or an inductor,along with a nonlinear resistor,to build different neural circuits.The corresponding circuit equations are derived to develop two different types of memristive oscillators,which are further converted into two kinds of memristive maps after linear transformation.The Hamilton energy function for memristive oscillators is obtained by applying the Helmholz theorem or by mapping from the field energy of the memristive circuits.The Hamilton energy functions for both memristive maps are obtained by replacing the gains and discrete variables for the memristive oscillator with the corresponding parameters and variables.The two memristive maps have rich dynamic behaviors including coherence resonance under noisy excitation,and an adaptive growth law for parameters is presented to express the self-adaptive property of the memristive maps.A digital signal process(DSP)platform is used to verify these results.Our scheme will provide a theoretical basis and experimental guidance for oscillator-to-map transformation and discrete map-energy calculation.

Cuproptosis,a novel mechanism of programmed cell death,has not been fully explored in the context of spermatogenic cells.Thisstudy investigated the potential involvement of cuproptosis in spermatogenic cell death using a mouse model of copper overload.Sixty male Institute of Cancer Research(ICR)mice were randomly divided into four groups that received daily oral gavage withsodium chloride(control)or copper sulfate(CuSO4)at 50 mg kg−1,100 mg kg−1,or 200 mg kg−1,for 42 consecutive days.Micesubjected to copper overload exhibited a disruption in copper homeostasis.Additionally,significant upregulated expression of keycuproptosis factors was accompanied by a significant rise in the rates of testicular tissue cell apoptosis.Immunohistochemicalanalysis revealed the presence of ferredoxin 1(Fdx1)in Sertoli cells,Leydig cells,and spermatogenic cells at various stages oftesticular development,and the Fdx1-positive staining area was significantly increased in copper-overloaded mice.Mitochondrialdysfunction and decreased adenosine triphosphate levels were also observed,further implicating mitochondrial damage undercuproptosis.Further analyses revealed pathological lesions and blood−testis barrier destruction in the testicular tissue,accompaniedby decreased sperm concentration and motility,in copper-overloaded mice.In summary,our results indicate that copper-overloadedmice exhibit copper homeostasis disorder in the testicular tissue and that cuproptosis participates in spermatogenic cell death.These findings provide novel insights into the pathogenic mechanisms underlying spermatogenic cell death and provide initialexperimental evidence for the occurrence of cuproptosis in the testis.
