Semiconductor microdisk lasers have great potential as low-threshold,high-speed,and small-form-factor light sources required for photonic integrated circuits because of their high-Q factors associated with long-lived whispering gallery modes(WGMs).Despite these advantages,the rotational symmetry of the disk shape restricts practical applications of the photonic devices because of their isotropic emission,which lacks directionality in far-field emission and difficulty in free-space out *** overcome this problem,deformation of the disk cavity has been mainly ***,the approach cannot avoid significant Q degradation owing to the broken rotational ***,we first report a deformed shape microcavity laser based on transformation optics,which exploits WGMs free from Q *** deformed cavity laser was realized by a spatially varying distribution of deep-sub-wavelength-scale(60 nm diameter)nanoholes in an InGaAsP-based multi-quantum-well *** lasing threshold of our laser is one-third of that of the same shaped homogeneous laser and quite similar to that of a homogeneous microdisk *** results mean that Q spoiling caused by the boundary shape deformation is recovered by spatially varying nanohole density distribution designed by transformation optics and effective medium approximation.

Mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)experience substantial viability issues in the stroke infarct region,limiting their therapeutic efficacy and clinical *** levels of deadly reactive oxygen radicals(ROS)and proinflammatory cytokines(PC)in the infarct milieu kill transplanted MSCs,whereas low levels of beneficial ROS and PC stimulate and improve engrafted MSCs’*** on the intrinsic hormesis effects in cellular biology,we built a microglia-inspired MSC bioengineering system to transform detrimental high-level ROS and PC into vitality enhancers for strengthening MSC *** system is achieved by bioorthogonally arming metabolic glycoengineered MSCs with microglial membrane-coated nanoparticles and an antioxidative extracellular protective *** this system,extracellular ROSscavenging and PC-absorbing layers effectively buffer the deleterious effects and establish a microlivable niche at the level of a single MSC for ***,the infarct’s inanimate milieu is transformed at the tissue level into a new living niche to facilitate *** engineered MSCs achieved viability five times higher than natural MSCs at seven days after transplantation and exhibited a superior therapeutic effect for stroke recovery up to 28 *** vitality-augmented system demonstrates the potential to accelerate the clinical translation of MSC treatment and boost stroke recovery.

The spike architecture of wheat plays a crucial role in determining grain number,making it a key trait for optimization in wheat breeding *** this study,we used a multi-omic approach to analyze the transcriptome and epigenome profiles of the young spike at eight developmental stages,revealing co-ordinated changes in chromatin accessibility and H3K27me3 abundance during the flowering *** constructed a core transcriptional regulatory network(TRN)that drives wheat spike formation and experimentally validated a multi-layer regulatorymodule involving TaSPL15,TaAGLG1,and *** integrating the TRN with genome-wide association studies,we identified 227 transcription factors,including 42 with known functions and 185 with unknown *** investigation of 61 novel transcription factors using multiple homozygous mutant lines revealed 36 transcription factors that regulate spike architecture or flowering time,such as TaMYC2-A1,TaMYB30-A1,and *** particular interest,TaMYB30-A1,downstream of and repressed by WFzP,was found to regulate fertile spikelet ***,the excellent haplotype of TaMYB30-A1,which contains a C allele at the WFzP binding site,was enriched during wheat breeding improvement in China,leading to improved agronomic ***,we constructed a free and open access Wheat Spike Multi-Omic Database(http://39.***.48.156:8800/#/).Our study identifies novel and high-confidence regulators and offers an effective strategy for dissecting the genetic basis of wheat spike development,with practical value forwheat breeding.

A Model for Predicting the Psychological WellBeing of Older Adults in South Korea

This study examined factors related to the psychological well-being of older adults and built and verified a model for predictingpsychological well-being. The participants were 350 older adults aged over 60 years who lived in South Korea and were active in thelocal community. The model proposed in this study was found to be suitable. Depression, self-efficacy, and social support had adirect effect on the psychological well-being of older adults, while depression, activities of daily living (ADLs), and self-efficacy hadan indirect effect. Self-efficacy and social support mediated the relationship between depression and psychological well-being, andself-efficacy mediated the relationship between ADLs and psychological well-being. It is necessary to develop and implement aprogram that can help alleviate depression and improve self-efficacy and social support among older adults in order toenhance their psychological well-being. Additionally, to establish a model that predicts the psychological well-being of olderadults, a study is needed to verify the model not only in Korea but also in other countries.

Implantable biomedical devices require an anti-biofouling,mechanically robust,low friction surface for a prolonged lifespan and improved ***,there exist no methods that could provide uniform and effective coatings for medical devices with complex shapes and materials to prevent immune-related side effects and thrombosis when they encounter biological ***,we report a lubricant skin(L-skin),a coating method based on the application of thin layers of bio-adhesive and lubricant-swellable perfluoropolymer that impart anti-biofouling,frictionless,robust,and heat-mediated self-healing *** demonstrate biocompatible,mechanically robust,and sterilization-safe L-skin in applications of bioprinting,microfluidics,catheter,and long and narrow medical *** envision that diverse applications of L-skin improve device longevity,as well as anti-biofouling attributes in biomedical devices with complex shapes and material compositions.

Existing segmentation and augmentation techniques on convolutional neural network(CNN)has produced remarkable progress in object ***,the nominal accuracy and performance might be downturned with the photometric variation of images that are directly ignored in the training process,along with the context of the individual CNN *** this paper,we investigate the effect of a photometric variation like brightness and sharpness on different *** observe that random augmentation of images weakens the performance unless the augmentation combines the weak limits of photometric *** approach has been justified by the experimental result obtained from the PASCAL VOC 2007 dataset,with object detection CNN algorithms such as YOLOv3(You Only Look Once),Faster R-CNN(Region-based CNN),and SSD(Single Shot Multibox Detector).Each CNN model shows performance loss for varying sharpness and brightness,ranging between−80%to 80%.It was further shown that compared to random augmentation,the augmented dataset with weak photometric changes delivered high performance,but the photometric augmentation range differs for each ***,we discuss some research questions that benefit the direction of the *** results prove the importance of adaptive augmentation for individual CNN model,subjecting towards the robustness of object detection.

AIM:To evaluate the pathogens in cultured Jones tubes used in lacrimal bypass surgery according to the postoperative periods and to obtain data for the prevention of infection of functional lacrimal stent ***:Totally 71 patients(81 eyes)who underwent the removal of Jones tubes were enrolled in *** the removed Jones tubes were cultured for bacterial and fungal identification and tested for bacterial antibiotic *** results were analyzed according to the duration of the inserted Jones tube after lacrimal bypass ***:Of the 81 eyes,bacteria were isolated from 69 eyes(85.2%)and fungi from 6 eyes(7.4%).Among 69 eyes,40.6% showed Staphylococcus aureus(***),11.6% were Pseudomonas aeruginosa(***).Gram-positive bacteria were isolated more than Gramnegative bacteria,but Gram-negative bacteria showed a higher incidence in the Jones tube implanted for over 10y(P=0.035).The antibiotic sensitivity test showed that 46.4% of *** were resistant to *** terms of antibiotics commonly used in ocular clinical practice,vancomycin was sensitive to *** and Streptococcus pneumoniae(***),amikacin responded to *** and Proteus mirabilis(***).Trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole(TMP/SMX)was all sensitive to ***,*** and *** except ***:*** is the most commonly found organism in the Jones tube after lacrimal bypass surgery,and 46.4% of them are methicillin-resistant ***(MRSA),sensitive to ***,*** responded with amikacin is dominantly detected in the Jones tubes implanted for more than 10y.
