Identification of individuals with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease by the diagnostic criteria for the metabolic syndrome

AIM:To clarify the efficiency of the criterion of metabolic syndrome to detecting non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD).METHODS:Authors performed a cross-sectional study involving participants of a medical health checkup program including abdominal *** study involved 11 714 apparently healthy Japanese men and women,18 to 83 years of *** was defined by abdominal ultrasonography without an alcohol intake of more than 20 g/d,known liver disease,or current use of *** revised criteria of the National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment PanelⅢ were used to characterize the metabolic ***:NAFLD was detected in 32.2%(95%CI:31.0%-33.5%)of men(n=1874 of 5811)and in 8.7%(95%CI:8.0%-9.5%)of women(n=514 of 5903).Among obese people,the prevalence of NAFLD was as high as 67.3%(95%CI:64.8%-69.7%)in men and 45.8%(95%CI:41.7%-50.0%)in *** NAFLD was thought of as being the liver phenotype of metabolic syndrome,the prevalence of the metabolic syndrome among subjects with NAFLD was low both in men and women.66.8%of men and 70.4%of women with NAFLD were not diagnosed with the metabolic syndrome.48.2%of men with NAFLD and 49.8%of women with NAFLD weren't overweight[body mass index(BMI)≥25 kg/m2].In the same way,68.6%of men with NAFLD and 37.9%of women with NAFLD weren't satisfied with abdominal classification(≥90 cm for men and≥80 cm for women).Next,authors defined it as positive at screening for NAFLD when participants satisfied at least one criterion of metabolic *** sensitivity of the definition"at least 1 criterion"was as good as 84.8%in men and 86.6%in *** subjects by BMI,the sensitivity was higher in obese men and women than in non-obese men and women(92.3%vs 76.8%in men,96.1%vs 77.0%in women,respectively).CONCLUSION:Authors could determine NAFLD effectively in epidemiological study by modifying the usage of the criteria for metabolic syndrome.

AIM:To clarify whether nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)increases the risk of cardiovascular ***:We carried out a prospective observational study with a total of 1637 apparently healthy Japanese men and women who were recruited from a health check-up *** was diagnosed by abdominal *** metabolic syndrome(MS)was defined according to the modified National Cholesterol Education Program(NCEP)ATP Ⅲ *** years after the baseline evaluations,the incidence of cardiovascular disease was assessed by a self-administered ***:Among 1221 participants available for outcome analyses,the incidence of cardiovascular disease was higher in 231 subjects with NAFLD at baseline(5 coronary heart disease,6 ischemic stroke,and 1 cerebral hemorrhage)than 990 subjects without NAFLD(3 coronary heart disease,6 ischemic stroke,and 1 cerebral hemorrhage).Multivariate analyses indicated that NAFLD was a predictor of cardiovascular disease independent of conventional risk factors(odds ratio 4.12,95% CI,1.58 to 10.75,P = 0.004).MS was alsoindependently associated with cardiovascular *** simultaneous inclusion of NAFLD and MS in a multivariate model revealed that NAFLD but not MS retained a statistically significant correlation with cardiovascular ***:Although both of them were predictors of cardiovascular disease,NAFLD but not MS retained a statistically significant correlation with cardiovascular disease in a multivariate *** is a strong predictor of cardiovascular disease and may play a central role in the cardiovascular risk of MS.

The composition of magmatic-hydrothermal fluids and their related metal mineralization

Magmatic hydrothermal deposits are important sources of many bulk,precious,and rare metals,and have attracted interest from both academic and industrial ***,it is still unclear if the major enrichment of the ore-forming metals occurs in the parental magma source region,during the magma evolution,or after the fluid *** inclusions trapped in hydrothermal minerals crystallized in the early,high-temperature stage before metal precipitation record information close to that of the initially exsolved magmatic fluids,which are helpful in revealing whether the metals have been already significantly enriched prior to the hydrothermal *** this study,available compositional data of such early-stage fluid inclusions from magmatic hydrothermal systems globally have been *** results indicate that the concentrations of Cu,Sn,and W respectively from the Cu-,Sn-,and W-mineralized fluids are significantly higher than the hydrothermal systems that do not produce ores with the corresponding *** suggests that Cu,Sn,and W could have already been enriched in the magma source and/or magma evolution *** Mo concentrations show no difference between Mo-mineralized and Mobarren fluid systems,indicating no significant pre-enrichment in the source region or during the magma *** also implies that an efficient collection of Mo from a large volume of magmas is required to account for the formation of a large Mo *** all the hydrothermal fluids contain high concentrations of Fe and Zn-Pb,but only a few of them eventually form Fe or Zn-Pb deposits,reflecting an important role of the hydrothermal evolution process on the selective metal *** above results indicate that different metals are enriched in different stages of a magmatic hydrothermal system,and that the major roles played in the formation of a deposit vary with the metal *** addition to the metal concentrations in the orerelated magmas and fluids

Enhancing micro-scale SiOx anode durability:Electro-mechanical strengthening of binder networks via anchoring carbon nanotubes with carboxymethyl cellulose

With the increasing prevalence of lithium-ion batteries（LIBs） applications,the demand for high-capacity next-generation materials has also *** currently considered a promising anode material due to its exceptionally high capacity for ***,the significant volumetric changes of SiOxduring cycling and its initial Coulombic efficiency（ICE） complicate its use,whether alone or in combination with graphite *** this study,a three-dimensional conductive binder network with high electronic conductivity and robust elasticity for graphite/SiOxblended anodes was proposed by chemically anchoring carbon nanotubes and carboxymethyl cellulose binders using tannic acid as a chemical *** addition,a dehydrogenation-based prelithiation strategy employing lithium hydride was utilized to enhance the ICE of *** combination of these two strategies increased the CE of SiOxfrom 74% to87% and effectively mitigated its volume expansion in the graphite/SiOxblended electrode,resulting in an efficient electron-conductive binder *** led to a remarkable capacity retention of 94% after30 cycles,even under challenging conditions,with a high capacity of 550 mA h g-1and a current density of 4 mA ***,to validate the feasibility of utilizing prelithiated SiOxanode materials and the conductive binder network in LIBs,a full cell incorporating these materials and a single-crystalline Ni-rich cathode was *** cell demonstrated a～27.3% increase in discharge capacity of the first cycle(～185.7 mA h g-1) and exhibited a cycling stability of 300 ***,this study reports a simple,feasible,and insightful method for designing high-performance LIB electrodes.

Adsorption and retention of fracturing fluid and its impact on gas transport in tight sandstone with different clay minerals

To elucidate the adsorption characteristics and retention mechanisms of fracturing fluids in diverse clay minerals, we conducted on-line nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR) and atomic force microscopy(AFM)experiments. The depth and extent of solid phase damage are determined by the ratio between the size of fine fractions in fracturing fluid residue and the pore-throat size in experiments. Poor physical properties(K 0.5 m D) combined with a scattered distribution of retained fracturing fluid is associated with high gas phase recovery permeability, whereas a continuous sheet-like distribution results in low recovery permeability. The expansive surface area and presence of filamentous illite minerals facilitate the multiple winding and adsorption of fracturing fluids, demonstrating strong hydrogen-bonding, multi-layering and multiple adsorption properties. The geological characteristics of the main gas formations exhibit significant variation, and the severity of damage caused by fracturing fluids occurs in diverse sequences. To address this issue, a differentiated strategy for optimizing fracturing fluids has been proposed.

Boron shielding design for neutron and gamma detectors of a pulsed neutron tool

Shielding materials are critical for downhole pulsed neutron tool design because they directly influence the accuracy of formation measurements.A well-designed shield configuration ensures that the response of the tool is maximally representative of the formation without being affected by the tool and borehole *** study investigated the effects of boron-containing materials on neutron and gamma detectors based on a newly designed logging-while-drilling tool that is currently undergoing *** the boron content increased,the ability to absorb thermal neutrons increased *** simulation,it was proven that boron carbide(B_(4)C)can be used as an effective boron shielding material for thermal neutrons,and is therefore employed in this *** shield against thermal neutrons migrating from the mud pipes,the optimal shielding thicknesses for the near-and far-neutron detectors were determined to be 5 and 4 *** a porosity of 25 p.u.,near-neutron sensitivity exhibited a 5.6%***,to shield the capture gamma generated by thermal neutrons once they enter the tool from the mud pipe and formation,internal and external shields for the gamma detector were *** results show that the internal shield requires a boron content of 75%,whereas the external shield has a thickness of 14.2 mm thickness and a boron content of 25%to minimize the tool effect.
