In this paper,for the first time,we investigated the combined effect of subsurface dams and a typical stratified aquifer(two high-permeability layers with a low-permeability layer between them)on groundwater flow and salinity distribution in a tidally influenced coastal unconfined aquifer.Subsurface dams can inhibit the invasion of saltwater,and the low-permeability layer(LPL)and tide action can increase the effect of subsurface dams and the removal rate of residual saltwater.Through sensitivity analysis,it was discovered that shifting the dam location towards the inland resulted in a reduction in the effective heights of the dam.The upper saline plume contracted with increasing dam height,and the upper boundary of LPL was moved to shallower regions.And the natural removal time increased significantly with increasing dam height and the bottom boundary of LPL was moved to deeper regions.In addition,if the dam location was close to the sea boundary and the bottom boundary of LPL was moved to deeper regions,we could increase the subsurface dam height to reduce the risks of control of saltwater intrusion.This study provides us a comprehensive understanding of the complex hydrodynamics of saltwater intrusion and provides guides for the design of subsurface dams aimed at saltwater intrusion control in stratified coastal aquifers.

Previous studies have shown that high-frequency(HF)waves,low-frequency(LF)waves and wave set-up coexist on shallow coral reef-flat and jointly contribute to potential floods and subsequent damages of infrastructures and islands on it.To better understand the reef-flat wave dynamics with incident waves and still water level,a wave-flume experiment was performed based on an idealized platform reef composed of a steep reef-face(1:4),a relatively mild reef-rim(1:14)and a horizontal reef-flat.Also,the non-hydrostatic phase-resolving model SWASH was validated against the experiment and then applied to further numerically investigate the effects of reef-rim topographic features on the reef-flat wave motions.The results show that incident waves of a larger wave height and a longer wave period can generate larger LF waves and wave set-up,thereby inducing greater HF waves on the reef-flat.Higher still water level can lead to larger HF waves but result in smaller wave set-up.In contrast to HF waves and wave set-up,LF waves are minimally affected by the still water level.A rim of milder slope and larger edge depth will induce smaller HF and LF waves and set-up on the reef-flat,and thus provide better protection for the reef-flat region.Furthermore,on the reef-flat,the ratio of HF significant wave height to water depth H_(s_h)/(h_(r)+η^(-))is approximately constant;the dimensionless LF significant wave height Hs_l/H_(s0) and the dimensionless wave set-upη^(-)/[T_(p)(gH_(s0))1/2]can be related to the inverse wave steepness parameter gT_(p)^(2)/H_(s0) and the relative reef-flat submergence(h_(r)+η^(-))/H_(s0) respectively.

Compared with electrical neural networks,optical neural networks(ONNs)have the potentials to break the limit of the bandwidth and reduce the consumption of energy,and therefore draw much attention in recent years.By far,several types of ONNs have been implemented.However,the current ONNs cannot realize the acceleration as powerful as that indicated by the models like quantum neural networks.How to construct and realize an ONN with the quantum speedup is a huge challenge.Here,we propose theoretically and demonstrate experimentally a new type of optical convolutional neural network by introducing the optical correlation.It is called the correlated optical convolutional neural network(COCNN).We show that the COCNN can exhibit“quantum speedup”in the training process.The character is verified from the two aspects.One is the direct illustration of the faster convergence by comparing the loss function curves of the COCNN with that of the traditional convolutional neural network(CNN).Such a result is compatible with the training performance of the recently proposed quantum convolutional neural network(QCNN).The other is the demonstration of the COCNN’s capability to perform the QCNN phase recognition circuit,validating the connection between the COCNN and the QCNN.Furthermore,we take the COCNN analog to the 3-qubit QCNN phase recognition circuit as an example and perform an experiment to show the soundness and the feasibility of it.The results perfectly match the theoretical calculations.Our proposal opens up a new avenue for realizing the ONNs with the quantum speedup,which will benefit the information processing in the era of big data.

Modern crops were created through the domestication and genetic introgression of wild relatives and adaptive differentiation in new environments.Identifying the domestication-related genes and unveiling their molecular diversity provide clues for understanding how the domesticated variants were selected by ancient people,elucidating how and where these crops were domesticated.Molecular genetics and genomics have explored some domestication-related genes in soybean(Glycine max).Here,we summarize recent studies about the quantitative trait locus(QTL)and genes involved in the domestication traits,introduce the functions of these genes,clarify which alleles of domesticated genes were selected during domestication.A deeper understanding of soybean domestication could help to break the bottleneck of modern breeding by highlighting unused genetic diversity not selected in the original domestication process,as well as highlighting promising new avenues for the identification and research of important agronomic traits among different crop species.

Background Few studies have evaluated the specific age period in childhood when the association of body mass index with adult hyperuricemia begins to be operative.This study aimed to examine the associations between body mass index in different childhood age periods and the risk of adult hyperuricemia in China.Methods The study cohort from the China Health and Nutrition Survey included 676 participants who were aged≥18 years and had data on uric acid in 2009 with at least one measurement of body mass index in childhood surveys before 2009.There were 357,365,358,427,and 432 observations in childhood age groups of≤5 years,6–9 years,10–12 years,13–15 years,and 16–18 years,respectively.Body mass index Z score was calculated based on 2000 Center for Disease Control and Prevention growth charts for the United States.Results Childhood body mass index Z scores measured at age≤5 years,6–9 years,10–12 years,and 13–15 years had no statistical association with adult uric acid.In comparison,childhood body mass index Z scores measured at age 16–18 years were significantly associated with adult uric acid(β=11.539,P=0.007),and the strength of association was stronger in girls(β=18.565,P=0.002)than in boys(β=9.209,P=0.087).In addition,childhood body mass index Z scores measured at age 16–18 years were significantly associated with an increased risk of adult hyperuricemia(odds ratio=1.323,95%confidence interval=1.003–1.746,P=0.048),but not for other age groups.Conclusion The association between childhood body mass index and young adulthood hyperuricemia was influenced by childhood age.

To the Editor: The presence of FIP-1-like-1-platelet-derived growth factor receptor-α (FIP1L1-PDGFRA, F/P) fusion gene accounts for approximately 23% (3%-56%) of all eosinophilias.[1] From 2008, the World Health Organization (WHO) classification redefined this disease as "myeloid/lymphoid neoplasms with eosinophilia and PDGFRA rearrangement," now constituting a distinct type of hematopoietic disorders. F/P fusion is a tyrosine kinase and is therefore sensitive to tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs).

Sarglanoids A-F,six new sesquiterpenoids belonging to eudesmane(1-5)and eremophilane(6)types,were isolated from the leaves of Sarcandra glabra,a famous traditional Chinese medicine(TCM).Their structures including absolute configurations were elucidated through extensive spectroscopic analysis and electronic circular dichroism(ECD)calculations.Compounds 1-2 were rare N-containing eudesmane-type sesquiterpenoids.Compound 3 exhibited inhibitory activity against nitric oxide(NO)production in lipopolysaccharides(LPS)-induced RAW 264.7 cells with IC_(50) values at 20.00±1.30μmol·L^(-1).These findings provide scientific evidence for sesquiterpenoids as the material foundation of S.glabra.

Prognostic value of ECOG performance status and Gleason score in the survival of castration-resistant prostate cancer:a systematic review

Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group(ECOG)performance status and Gleason score are commonly investigated factors for overall survival(OS)in men with castration-resistant prostate cancer(CRPC).However,there is a lack of consistency regarding their prognostic or predictive value for OS.Therefore,we performed this meta-analysis to assess the associations of ECOG performance status and Gleason score with OS in CRPC patients and compare the two markers in patients under different treatment regimens or with different chemotherapy histories.A systematic literature review of monotherapy studies in CRPC patients was conducted in the PubMed database until May 2019.The data from 8247 patients in 34 studies,including clinical trials and real-world data,were included in our meta-analysis.Of these,twenty studies reported multivariate results and were included in our main analysis.CRPC patients with higher ECOG performance statuses(≥2)had a significantly increased mortality risk than those with lower ECOG performance statuses(<2),hazard ratio(HR):2.10,95%confidence interval(CI):1.68-2.62,and P<0.001.The synthesized HR of OS stratified by Gleason score was 1.01,with a 95%CI of 0.62-1.67(Gleason score≥8 vs<8).Subgroup analysis showed that there was no significant difference in pooled HRs for patients administered taxane chemotherapy(docetaxel and cabazitaxel)and androgen-targeting therapy(abiraterone acetate and enzalutamide)or for patients with different chemotherapy histories.ECOG performance status was identified as a significant prognostic factor in CRPC patients,while Gleason score showed a weak prognostic value for OS based on the available data in our meta-analysis.

Two new type B polycyclic polyprenylated acylphloroglucinols(PPAPs)(1 and 2)and a known biogenetic precursor hyperbeanol Q(3)were isolated from the root extract of Hypericum beanii,a medicinal plant widespread in southwest China.Their chemical structures were elucidated by 1 D/2 D NMR and HRESIMS data analysis,and absolute configurations were determined through detailed electric circular dichroism(ECD)analysis including ECD exciton chirality,Mo2(OAc)4-induced ECD,and ECD comparison.Of these compounds,hyperbeone A(1)is a typical[3.3.1]-type B PPAP with an unusual C-1 geranyl side chain,and hyperberin C(2)possesses a rare bicyclo[5.3.1]hendecane core.Taking compound 3 as a starting point,a plausible biosynthetic pathway to the bicyclic type B frameworks of 1 and 2 was proposed.

Enhanced roasting of lepidolite for high defluorination efficiency in a fluidized bed reactor

Defluorination roasting of lepidolite ore in a fluidized bed reactor has been proposed for improving the extraction efficiency of lithium.In this paper,a vacuum was introduced to the fluidized bed reactor,which significantly improved the defluorination efficiency of lepidolite particles.This improvement could be attributed to an increase in the H2O/HF ratio.The highest defluorination rate for the lepidolite particles was obtained in the fluidized bed reactor under vacuum.The rate in the vacuum reactor was 1.5-2 times that in a fixed bed reactor or conventional fluidized bed reactor.The defluorination efficiency of the lepidolite particles also improved and the consumption of steam was greatly reduced by addition of coal char.This enhancement was mainly attributed to changes in the structures of the reduced lepidolite particles.This defluorination roasting method for high lithium extraction with low water steam consumption is a promising method for lithium ore treatment.
