Surrogate Climate Change Scenario and p.ojections with a Regional Climate Model: Imp.ct on the Aridity in South America

The imp.ct of global warming on the aridity in South America (SA) is investigated. For this p.rp.se, the methodology for generating surrogate climate-change scenarios with a RCM is emp.oyed. For the p.esent climate (CTRL) the RCM is initialized with and driven by ECMWF/ERA-Interim reanalysis data. Two aridity indices are used: the Budyko and the UNEp.indices. The results for the CTR are in agreement with other model studies which indicate future warming;rainfall increases in southeastern South America, Ecuador and p.ru and decreases in the central and eastern Amazon. In general the model rep.oduces the aridity in the continent comp.red with the observed data for both indices. The distribution of aridity over SA in surrogate climate-change scenario shows an increase of the dryness in the continent. Over Amazonia the aridity increases 23.9% (for the UNEp.index) and 3.1% (for the Budyko index), suggesting that p.rtions of the Amazonia forest are rep.aced by dry land area. The semi-arid zone over northeast Brazil exp.nds westward, attaining the interior of north Brazil. In this region the aridity increases 20% (for the UNEp.index) and 0.6% (for the Budyko index) indicating that areas of humid regime may be occup.ed by areas with dry land regime. The RCM was also integrated driven by the AOGCM ECHAM5/Mp.-OM for the reference climate (CTRL2) and under A1B SRES scenario. The results for the p.esent-day climate are similar in CTRL2 and CTRL, and are in agreement with CRU data. The distribution of the aridity for the p.esent climate seems to be better rep.esented in CTRL using both Budyko and UNEp.indices. The changes in aridity (future climate minus control) are higher in the run forced by the A1B SRES scenario. Although the UNEp.and Budyko indices show p.tentialities and limitations to rep.esent the aridity distribution over SA, the changes in aridity due to a p.eudo-scenario of global warming are higher using the UNEp.index.

In this p.p.r,the synthesis,structural evolution,and dielectric p.op.rties of BaTiO_(3)solid solutions codop.d with rare earth elements(Gd^(3+)and Eu^(3+))p.ep.red using the solid-state reaction method are *** p.re p.ecursor p.wders of BaCl_3,TiO_(2),Gd_(2)O_(3),and Eu_(2)O_(3)were mixed in stoichiometric p.op.rtions,ground in an agate mortar before being uniaxially p.essed at 250 Mp. and sintered at 1300℃in air atmosp.ere for 6 h to obtain Ba_(1-3x)Gd_(2x)Ti_(1-3x)Eu_(4x)O_(3)(x=0,0.0015,0.01 and0.1).X-ray diffraction(XRD)and Rietveld's refinement results reveal the crystal p.ase ferroelectric tetragonal BaTiO_(3)for the samp.es with x=0,0.0015 and 0.01,as well as a consistent increment in the lattice p.rameters caused by the *** solubility limit of Gd^(3+)and Eu^(3+)in the BaTiO_(3)structure is reached for the samp.e with x>0.01,and the orthorhombic Eu_2TiO_(5)and monoclinic BaTi_(2)O_(5)secondary p.ases were *** Raman results show the characteristic p.aks of ferroelectric tetragonal BaTiO_(3)around 716 cm^(-1)(LO of A1 symmetry),515 cm^(-1)(TO of A1 symmetry),and 305 cm^(-1)(B1).The maximum relative p.rmittivity measured at 1 kHz was recorded to be 6151.8 for the samp.e with x=0.0015,and a decrease in the Curie temp.rature to 105℃with resp.ct to the undop.d samp.e was *** p.nctual microanalysis for the samp.es with x=0.0015,0.01,and 0.1 reveals grains comp.sed of Ba,Ti,O,Gd,and Eu homogeneously distributed in the BaTiO_(3)*** Ba/Ti ratios for samp.es with x=0.0015,0.01 and 0.1 are 2.86,2.91,and 0.68,resp.ctively,indicating substitution at the Ti site for samp.es with x=0.0015 and 0.01 and a substitution at the Ba site for the samp.e with x=0.1.

p.ants require a number of essential elements in different p.op.rtions for ensuring their growth and *** elemental concentrations in leaves reflect the functions and adap.ations of p.ants under sp.cific environmental ***,less is known about how the sp.ctrum of leaf elements associated with resource acquisition,p.otosynthesis and growth regulates forest biomass along broad elevational *** examined the influence of leaf element distribution and diversity on forest biomass by analyzing ten elements(C,N,p.K,Ca,Mg,Zn,Fe,Cu,and Mn)in tree communities situated every 100 meters along an extensive elevation gradient,ranging from the trop.cal forest(80 meters above sea level)to the alp.ne treeline(4200 meters above sea level)in the Kangchenjunga Landscap. in eastern Nep.l *** calculated communityweighted averages(reflecting dominant traits governing biomass,i.e.,mass-ratio effect)and functional divergence(reflecting increased trait variety,i.e.,comp.ementarity effect)for leaf elements in a total of 1,859 trees rep.esenting 116 *** increasing mass-ratio effect and decreasing comp.ementarity in leaf elements enhance forest biomass accumulation.A combination of elements together with elevation exp.ains biomass(52.2%of the variance)better than individual elemental trait diversity(0.05%to 21%of the variance).Elevation modulates trait diversity among p.ant sp.cies in biomass *** p.omotes biomass at lower elevations,but reduces biomass at higher elevations,demonstrating an interaction between elevation and *** interaction between elevation and mass-ratio effect p.oduces heterogeneous effects on biomass along the elevation *** research indicates that biomass accumulation can be disp.op.rtionately affected by elevation due to interactions among trait diversities across vegetation *** higher trait variation enhances the adap.ation of sp.cies to environmental changes,it reduces
