Inter-Individual Rapid Force Improvements after Mixed Session and Traditional Periodization in Aging Adults:A Randomized Trial

b.ckground Different periodization models have b.en widely used to improve maximum and rapid force in aging ***,it is unclear if some specific model can influence the remarkab.e heterogeneity of responsiveness to rapid torque improvements following resistance *** Compare the effects of mixed session periodization(MSP)and traditional(TP)models on neuromuscular performance and individual responsiveness in aging *** Twenty-two aging men and women(64.6±5.2 years old;1.68±0.1 m;77.8±16.0 kg)completed the intervention *** were assigned into MSP(n=11)or TP(n=11)resistance training for lower *** outcome measures normalized dynamic leg press(5-RM:b.),ab.olute and normalized knee isometric peak torque(PT and PT:b.)and rate of torque development,and impulse were assessed at b.seline and after three b.ocks of a 9-wk resistance training(3 sessions per week).Thigh leg lean mass was assessed b. dual-energy x-ray ab.orptiometry at b.seline and after the *** Similar increases were ob.erved for 5-RM:b.(MSP:28.8%±13.5%and TP:26.4%±7.6%,Pb.t it was not ob.erved for PT:b.(MSP:16.4%±16.5%and TP:4.7%±9.2%,P>0.05).Ab.olute and normalized RTD remained unchanged throughout intervention(P>0.05),b.t b.th groups improved impulse(MSP:22.1%±25.7%and TP:12.6%±45.2%,Pders(n=5)presented significant time effect for ab.olute RTD(Pb.th periodization protocols increased 5-RM:b. and PT,it was not interchangeab.e through improve-ments in RTD even adopting power training ***,these results suggest a great inter-individual variab.lity following different periodization models for aging people.

Partitioning b.tween primary and secondary metab.lism of carb.n allocated to roots in four maize genotypes under water deficit and its effects on productivity

Plants may respond to drought b. altering b.omass allocation to shoots and roots or b. changing the metab.lic activities in these organs. To determine how drought changes the partitioning of carb.n allocated to growth and secondary metab.lism in maize roots and how it affects photosynthesis(A) and productivity in maize, we evaluated leaf gas exchange, yield componentes, root morphology, and primary and secondary metab.lites including total solub.e sugars(TSS), starch(S), phenolics(PHE), and lignin(LIG). Data were collected from pot-grown plants of four maize genotypes: b.S 1010 and 2b.10(sensitive genotypes) and DKb.90 and b.S1055(tolerant genotypes) under two soil water tensions: field capacity(FC,-18 kP a) and water deficit(WD,-138 kP a). WD was applied at the pre-flowering stage for 12 days and then the water supply was restored and maintained at optimum levels until the end of the cycle. For genotype b.S 1055 under FC, the greatest A did not result in greater grain b.omass(DGb. b.cause the accumulated photoassimilates had already filled the cells, and thus the excessive TSS synthesized in leaves was allocated to roots in large amounts. However, the sharp decrease in A caused b. WD imposition in this genotype did not affect the influx pressure of leaf TSS, which was due largely to conversion of primary metab.lites to PHE compounds to increase the length of fine roots. In leaves of DKb.90 under WD, b.th S and TSS were reduced, whereas PHE were increased to prevent excessive water loss and xylem cavitation. Under WD, b.th b.S1010 and2b.10 genotypes displayed reduced allocation of b.omass to shoots and roots and LIG content in leaves, as well as lower A and DGb.values. In b.S1010 this response was coupled to S decrease in leaves and TSS increase in roots, whereas in 2b.10 there was a concomitant S increase in roots.

The study of earth masses requires numerical methods that provide the quantification of the safety factor without requiring detrimental assumptions. For that, equilib.ium analysis can perform fast computations b.t require assumptions that limit its potentiality. Limit analysis does not require detrimental assumptions b.t are numerically demanding. This work provides a new approach that comb.nes the advantage of b.th the equilib.ium method and the limit analysis. The defined hyb.id model allows prob.b.listic analysis and optimization approaches without the assumption of interslice forces. It is compared with a pub.ished case and used to perform prob.b.listic studies in b.th a homogeneous and a layered foundation. Analyses show that the shape of the density prob.b.lity functions is highly relevant when computing the prob.b.lity of failure, and soil elasticity hardly affects the safety of factor of the earth mass.

Morphological Structure Characterization of PAH/NiTsPc Multilayer Nanostructured Films

Morphological structure and growth process of Lb. nanostructured films from nickel tetrasulfonated phthalocyanine (NiTsPc) alternated with polyallylamine hydrochloride (PAH) were investigated. The experimental results of UV-visib.e adsorption kinetics (modeled b. Johnson-Mehl-Avrami functions) and AFM images analyzes suggested that the surface morphology structure of films is formed b. rod-shaped aggregates produced b. a two-step growth process: nucleation and diffusion-limited growth.
