Strong free-surface water vortices are found throughout industrial hydraulic systems used for water treatment,flow regulation,and energy *** models using the volumetric flow rate as a model input have generally been semi-empirical,and have tended to have some limitations in terms of the design of practical hydropower *** this study,an analytical model of a strong free-surface water vortex was *** model only requires the water head and geometric parameters as its inputs and calculates the maximum volumetric flow rate,aircore diameter,and rotational *** experimental depthedischarge data from a full-scale gravitational vortex hydropower system,unavailable in the relevant literature,were obtained,and the simulated results showed excellent agreement with the experimental *** data could be used to verify similar models using laboratory-scale physical models in order to investigate the scaling *** contrast to previous models,this model does not assume a constant average velocity across the vortex radius and allows precise calculation of the resultant velocity ***,this model presents advantages in turbine design for energy generation systems.

Solar powered vehicles are currently being developed towards entirely self-sustaining vehicles that harness their energy directly from the *** such vehicles,it is important to optimise their solar exposure while driving,thereby reducing their energy consumption through fossil *** has emerged to estimate optimised routes for solar vehicles,and this paper builds on this work to expand on the parameters used to calculate the route,thereby improving the energy-harnessing quality of the route together with its overall utility for the *** ArcGIS tool and the open weather API are used to predict the solar potential of a vehicle by taking into account shade based on surrounding topography,vehicle type,weather,distance and time of *** model was implemented as a user mobile application‘Drive Solar’that calculates the optimal route for the user based on their preferences for time and energy *** effectiveness of the prediction model was tested using a solar irradiance sensor in Dublin *** results show that the model predicts the route with the most energy absorbed with a 51.65%accuracy and chooses the route with the most energy consumed with a 86.65%*** conclude that Drive Solar can aid in the transition to widespread use of self-sustaining solar vehicles.

Purpose： Physical activity （PA） and sedentary behavior （SB） are increasingly considered independent health behaviors. Additionally, current research suggests that both controlled and automatic determinants account for their adoption. The purpose of this article was to identify intention-automaticity profiles toward PA and screen-based SB and to examine how those profiles are associated with different behavioral patterns. Method： Two cross-sectional studies based on self-report questionnaires were conducted with French high school students （Study 1： n = 198; Study 2： n = 185）. results： In all, 4 distinct motivational profiles appeared. The first 3 clusters emerged in both studies：＂PA＂（high levels of automaticity and intention for PA, low levels of automaticity and intention for screen-based SB）; ＂screen＂（high levels of automaticity and intention for screen-based SB, low levels of automatieity and intention for PA）, and ＂mixed＂（high levels of all variables）, whereas the fourth cluster was observed only in Study 2：＂high control＂（below-mean levels of automaticity, high levels of intention toward both PA and screen-based SB）. Adolescents with a screen profile displayed the least healthy behavioral pattern, whereas those in the PA profile demonstrated the most favorable behaviors. Conclusion： Future research is needed to extend these results to other populations using complementary assessment methods of automatic psychological processes and PA and SB behaviors.2018 Published by Elsevier *** behalf of Shanghai University of Sport. High temperature oxidation behavior of the bond coat layer is a critical factor that controls the failure mechanism of thermal barrier coatings（TBCs）.Previous work reveald that TBCs with cryomilled NiCrAlY bond coats exhibited an improved oxidation behavior compared to equivalent TBCs with conventional bond *** cryomilled NiCrAlY bond coats contributed to a slower growth rate of thermally grown oxides（TGO） with a final thinner thickness and enhanced homogeneity in TGO *** better understand the improved oxidation behavior,a mechanistic investigation based on diffusion theory and quantum mechanics is performed to elucidate the role of aluminum diffusion in the oxidation behavior and how the microstructural features of the cryomilled NiCrAlY bond coats,i e,the creation of a thermally stable,uniform distribution of ultrafine Al-rich oxide dispersoids,affect the diffusion kinetics of Al and the migration of free *** is revealed that these Al-rich oxide dispersoids result in a uniform diffusion of Al and slow migration of free electrons within the NiCrAlY bond coat,consequently leading to the improved oxidation behavior.

After tobacco use, chronic hepatitis B(CHB) viral infections are the most important cause of cancer globally in that 1 out of 3 individuals have been infected with the hepatitis B virus(HBV). Though infection rates are low(ricans who comprise about 6% of the population experience about 60% of the CHB burden. This paper reviews the magnitude of hepatitis B(HBV) burden among Asian Americans and the progress being made to mitigate this burden, primarily through localized, communitybased efforts to increase screening and vaccination among Asian American children, adolescents, and adults. This review brings to light that despite the numerous community-based screening efforts, a vast majority of Asian Americans have not been screened and that vaccination efforts, particularly for adults, are sub-optimal. Greater efforts to integrate screenings by providers within existing healthcare systems are urged. Evidence-based strategies are offered to implement CDC's three major recommendations to control and prevent hepatitis B through targeted screening and enhanced vaccination efforts.

Outcomes assessment in surgery traditionally has included data regarding peri-operative mortality and morbidity, as well as long-term survival and recurrence in surgical oncology. However, quality of life （QOL） is another important patient-related outcome measure. QOL data can be used to tailor treatment and improve clinical outcomes by detecting physical or psychological problems in patients that otherwise might be overlooked, but which have profound implications for the effective delivery of care. We review several well-validated QOL instruments developed specifically for use in patients with gastrointestinal malignancies, including esophageal, pancreatic and colorectal cancers, and conclude that QOL assessment routinely should be included in clinical trials of novel treatments.

Environmental management of military activities is of growing global concern by defence forces. As one of the largest landholders in Australia, the Australian Defence Force （ADF） is increasingly concerned with sustainable environmental management. This paper focuses on how the ADF is maintaining effective environmental management, especially in environmentally sensitive marine protected areas. It uses Shoalwater Bay Training Area （SWBTA） as a research example to examine environmental management strategies conducted by the ADF. SWBTA is one of the most significant Defence training areas in Australia, with a large number of single, joint and combined military exercises conducted in the area. With its maritime component contained in the Great Barrier reef Marine Park （GBrMP）, the Great Barrier reef World Heritage Area （GBrWHA）, and abutting Queensland＇s State Marine Parks, it has high protection values. It is therefore vital for the ADF to adopt environmentally responsible management while they are conducting military activities. As to various tools employed to manage environmental performance, the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System （EMS） is widely used by the ADE This paper exanlines military activities and marine environmental management within SWBTA, using the Talisman Saber （TS） exercise series as an example. These are extensive joint exercises conducted by the ADF and the United States defence forces. The paper outlines relevant legislative framework and environmental policies, analyses how the EMS operates in environmental management of military activities, and how military activities comply with these regulations. It discusses the implementation of the ADF EMS, including risk reduction measures, environmental awareness training, consultation and communication with stakeholders. The emergence of mutual knowledge is a major cognitive mechanism for the robustness of complex socio-technical systems. It has been extensively studied from an ethnomethodological point of view and empirically reproduced by multi-agent simulations. Whilst such simulations have been used to design real work settings the underlying theoretical grounding for the process is vague. The aim of this paper is to investigate whether the emergence of mutual knowledge(MK) in a group of colocated individuals can be explained as a percolation phenomenon. The followed methodology consists in coupling agent-based simulation with dynamic networks analysis to study information propagation phenomena: After using an agent-based simulation the authors generated and then analyzed its traces as networks where agents met and exchanged knowledge. Deep analysis of the resulting networks clearly shows that the emergence of MK is comparable to a percolation process. The authors specifically focus on how changes at the microscopic level in the proposed agent based simulator affect percolation and robustness. These results therefore provide theoretical basis for the analysis of social organizations.
